Pros: The story is meaningful and thought provoking. Some engaging little puzzles, just the right level to be challenging but not annoying. Lighting, ambient sounds, music are all incredibly atmospheric. Some stunning scenes and great immersion. The enemies and bosses are genuinely horrible at times. They imply torture, child abuse, suffering. Whether that is good is up to you! Cons: The story is very subtle to the point of being obtuse for about 80% of the run time. Dialogue is intentionally vague and speaks in metaphors. A lot of people will find it either confusing or disengaging. I found it useful to read up on explainers as I went through the various parts to understand their meanings. It is probably too long. I could have done with it lasting 15 hours rather than 20. Some of the sections can drag and get repetitive (open room, search drawers, come out times a million). I struggled to keep going at times. Combat is mediocre. (Intentionally i guess). Enemies lack variety. Bosses are fairly few and apart from one, just require you to shoot at them and run away, until they die. Performance isn't great, plus some graphical shimmer even on Pro. Nothing too bad though. Overall, I recommend it for the atmosphere and story, but it is a slog at times.

It has all the same idiosyncrasies of the other Supermassive games, but if you like those, you'll enjoy this. The plot and setting are quite interesting and the characters less annoying than other titles like The Quarry. The presence of Paul Kaye, of Game of Thrones and After Life fame, as an obnoxious TV producer is good fun. You need to take your time and read the lore, and put it together in your head, to get the most out of it. The QTEs can get annoying at times, and some life or death decisions are impossible to get right based on logic. Overall a worthwhile way to spend about 7 hours for horror fans.

Giving it an 8/10 out of respect for the overall quality and effort that's gone into it. But am pretty disappointed, have given up around 17 hours in, just can't motivate myself to play it anymore. Pros Nice visuals and excellent performance on PS5. Market leading voice acting and animation. Some very enjoyable character interactions. Cons Repetitive and unsatisfying combat. Linear levels with no flexibility on how to traverse or solve the numerous samey puzzles. Atreus is charmless and also much less fun to play as than Kratos. Totally lost interest in the story. Just not for me, although I did enjoy the first (2018) game. Might retry in some months or years.

Overall I enjoyed The Quarry. In particular the visuals and sound effects are really impressive and atmospheric. The decision system works really well, you never see the joins as they stitch together the different scenes and dialogue. It's a compelling story and setting. A section in and around a police station was the highlight, given its closer focus on a smaller number of characters and a tighter section of the story. Some of the characters were annoying, (Ryan in particular), but that comes with the territory with Supermassive Games, and to be honest it's kind of part of the charm. The ending was a real anticlimax. It ended very abruptly and there was barely any pay off from the relationships built during the game. The game hinted throughout that there would be a confrontation with police at the end, this doesn't happen. You're just rewarded with a "podcast" to listen to over the end credits. Disappointed with the ending. Did they run out of time or budget?

Slightly underwhelmed , and I really liked the original. Overall it's a very good game with lots of content. Graphics are absolutely beautiful in places, and the ability to ride flying machines is a game changer. The enemy machines are stunning, and the environments are immersive and detailed. Combat is varied and satisfying, though I would say it improves massively around halfway once you have most of the weapons and abilities. It can be quite repetitive and frustrating at times, early on, and a bit overwhelming given how much there is to learn. As for the criticisms... Platforming/climbing is sub par compared to the likes of Tomb Raider and Uncharted. I found the story a convoluted Macguffin chase, with the writers struggling to hold together a compelling plot, plus a cliffhanger ending leaving it feeling somewhat unfinished. The cutscenes keep the sometimes tedious and overwrought dialogue of the original. Some interesting ideas though, and the overall world is still fascinating. Sylens is the highlight as far as characters go.

Too big, with too much grind to get through the content before I got bored and gave up. There are so many collectibles, weapons, armour pieces, map icons, identikit enemies and side fetch missions, most of which inconsequential distractions, that making progress and gaining genuine entertainment takes far too much time investment. It'd be improved with the XP booster, but no way I'm paying for that. Landscapes are very samey, though the towns look great. It's a shame because it looks, plays and sounds beautiful, the story is decent (until I stopped halfway) and traversal and combat are very good. Seafaring and battles are well done too.

I enjoyed this slick action-leaning survival horror game. I've been playing Resi games for 23 years and can happily say this is a good one. While it suffers from coming in the wake of the wonderful experience that was the RE2 remake, pretty much offering more of the same, it is definitely worth playing. The locations are memorable (especially the streets, power plant and the hospital) and it was good to switch between Jill and Carlos. I thought the boss battles were decent and varied enough. I really liked the return of the Hunters as well. It was also nice to have a siege defence sequence, a rare treat in a RE game. I would have liked more use of the mine grenades, which made a brief cameo appearance. There are a huge amount of complaints going on about the length, but in fact there is pretty much the same amount as RE2 remake. It just doesn't have as much backtracking like in RE2's police station. And the dodge mechanic and plentiful ammo mean you can blast through very quickly, hence the embarrassingly quick speedruns. But that's not how you get the most from the game. Yes, I wish it were longer, but all the classic RE games and their remakes are pretty short. There were a few disappointing things. Apart from near the start, and 4 boss battles Nemesis, is limited to Uncharted style scripted chases with collapsing platforms and dodging of rockets. I didn't enjoy them much. It's a big shame they cut the clock tower and the graveyard boss. And there is nowhere near enough open exploration of Raccoon City. It's pretty much what you get in the demo. Also the main human antagonist must be the weakest and most forgettable in the series. Wesker he ain't. Overall i enjoyed it a lot, it has some great locations and combat, and will play through again on the tougher difficulty levels. For non-obsessives of the RE series it might be better to wait for a price drop.

An average video game in terms of graphics and game-play, but some wonderful Terminator fan service. Great atmosphere and music. Authentic enemies and weapons. The flaming Terminators, when they stand up after you think you've stopped them, are genuinely scary looking. Story and acting are nothing special but do the job. It serves as a nice compliment to the first 2 films and provides some back story. It's a circa 15 hour game if you do all the missions, which felt long enough without getting repetitive. 8/10 is generous, speaking objectively, but I enjoyed it and do recommend it to Terminator fans. Final observation- much of the game is extremely reminiscent of Fallout 3 - broken down cities, same colour palate, wooden conversations looking at NPCs directly in the face, lock picking, looting of lockers and fallen enemies, collecting books to raise your skill levels, skill trees, robot enemies, plasma guns. etc etc.

A fun and atmospheric co-op shooter. Story mode could do with more levels, but the ~15 available are well designed and enjoyable, if short. Taking down the swarms is exhilarating, and on harder difficulty levels you really do need to work as a team. I recommend this game. It was fun, and while not perfect It kept me gripped for most of what must have been at least 60 hours of gameplay. The story is compelling and really well written and acted by the main cast. This is a competent and worthwhile open world game with plenty of tense and varied combat. Pros: - Excellent gunplay - Biking is fun - Decent visuals and sound track - Endgame with hordes and overrun locations is hectic and challenging. Like being in World War Z! - Genuinely interesting main story. Main three characters are likable. - Hordes are awesome Cons - Slightly repetitive/unmemorable locations (there's only so many times a gas station can be interesting) - Not quite enough enemy types. - Too many side missions involving wiping out dozens of people for no real reason (i.e. some guy stole from us so let's wipe out his whole camp of 15-20 people). - Frame rate drops and freezes happen far too often, even on a Pro with latest patches (Sept 19). - Slow start with an awful bike and weapons. Story takes a few hours to get interesting. Some weird missions that consist of nothing more than a very short conversation. - Too many loading screens as the action goes between cut scenes and live action. RDR2 had none of these. Overall score: 8.5 I'd love a sequel to continue the cliffhanger story, introduce more people from Deacon's old MC and bring some action into a city location.

A huge game with immense scope for fun and exploration. The main story is excellent, twisting and turning, with humour and drama. While Michael and Franklin are perfectly serviceable guys and take part in an engaging story, Trevor goes down as an all-time great of video game characters. PS3 graphics are excellent, on par with many PS4-era games. Sound and music are fitting, and the voice acting is fantastic. Playability is the best of the GTA series and better than Red Dead 2 as well. Combat, driving and flying are all tight and fun- as long as you don't mind arcadey rather than simulation. GTA Online is practically dead on PS3 and crawling with pranksters and glitches now, and while still busy on PS4 it's ultimately a bit of a waste of time in my opinion. Top marks for the story mode through.

Capcom have delivered the perfect modern Resident Evil game. Graphics, sound and gameplay are perfect. However the beauty in this title is that they've retained that sense of claustrophobia, dread and tension from the original trio of games. The police station in particular is a masterpiece in puzzle design, an elaborate maze-like escape room. I also loved how they've combined elements of the Umbrella lab from RE1, RE2 and the first RE movie. As a video game it is also fantastic entertainment with huge replay value. You need to complete it at least 4 times to see it all and there are plenty of trophies and challenges to go for. It is genuinely frightening as well, especially when the tyrant is following you around. You know you've saved your progress, and that it's just a game, yet your heart will be racing and panic is just around the corner. It's amazing really.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It plays like a dream. It is the wide-roaming, visually stunning, exploration focused TR experience I have been waiting for. The combat is very entertaining. You have to play it on the hardest setting for it to feel challenging. There is less frequent combat than in Tomb Raider (2013), but to me that made it a more fitting Tomb Raider experience. Where this really shines as a Tomb Raider game is in the exploration and puzzle department. The feeling of risk and isolation is huge, especially if you play on Deadly Obsession. Some early platforming bugs that left to accidental deaths have thankfully been ironed out. I enjoyed the RPG skill-based elements, they really suit the game and set it apart from the otherwise quite similar Uncharted series. However, there is too much focus on collecting parts to upgrade guns, when they make very little difference, and by the time your guns are powered up there are only about 3 proper combat sequences that need them. That said, the bow is as fun as ever and the shooting mechanics work perfectly. I hope the DLC will bring some combat missions. The only down side is that the story is quite laboured and not especially gripping. The "key" and the "box" just felt like plot devices to progress the game, rather than a self contained story. The previous two games were better in that sense. I highly recommend this game, it loses a point because the story wasn't as engaging as it could be.

This is a memorable and beautiful game, and worth buying a PS4 to play. Simple crafting and RPG/ skills elements make it a little deeper than some other open world games. Machine combat, which is most of the enemies, is excellent. It always feels fair and makes you think tactically, and choose the right approach for each enemy. The machines are really quite impressive, each quite different, with good artificial intelligence. Some are dinosaur themed (Thunderjaws, Watchers) but most aren't- there are a lot of misleading comments about this. They are mainly intended to replicate modern fauna- deer, cattle, wolves, lions, crocodiles, tigers, crabs, buffalos and others. The core story is very strong, and the overarching background is actually quite fascinating. Learning the truth of the machines is a gripping journey. There is plenty to do, and its fun to just get into fights to see if you can make it out alive. The environment, with its stunning views, weather and water effects, wildlife, swaying grass and ambient sounds is second to none. And there are plenty of collectibles and tasks to get you to explore it all. Downsides? A few, but not enough to spoil it. Fighting the human enemies is fairly unsatisfying. Most can be easily beaten by picking them off by stealth or simply culling them one by one with a spear. The side stories are mainly pretty dull, consisting of rescuing hapless villagers from machines/bandits, solving crimes by following easily signposted footprints or blood trails, or acting as a glorified courier. There are a couple of exceptions. Aloy's sarcasm gets a bit wearing at times, and is a bit out of place for most of the game; until she becomes a genuine badass. Story dialogue overall is a bit weird too, a big step down from recent Rockstar games for example. It has a tendency to go on a bit too long at times. Less is often more, developers!

This game contains a truly fantastic single player campaign. Story as good as most Hollywood war movies, not far off the likes of Fury (simple and overly patriotic but entertaining). Gameplay is tight, accurate and very rewarding. In my opinion it does what it sets out to do excellently. Don't expect the depth of an open world RPG- this is an action packed, linear shooter that rewards reflexes and accuracy. The story knits it together nicely and has some moral and historical messages that while a little trite might be of value to those not familiar with WW2 history. Graphics are realistic, very detailed and smooth on the normal PS4, and the cut scenes could genuinely be stylized live action at times. The campaign is relatively short but extremely dense, there is not a second of boredom. Reasons to replay include higher difficulties and collectibles. It is nicely varied with sniping, trench warfare, turrets, stealth, planes, tanks, jeeps and more. The short tank sequence in particular is brilliantly tense if you get into the mindset. There are some horrible weapons too like flamethrowers and double-barrelled shotguns make you pity the **** victims at times. I don't play multiplayer FPS so cannot comment on that. Zombies looks like a fun addition. It's not a 10 because it isn't incredibly original, and the campaign could be a little longer, with perhaps a bit more flexibility on routes or tactics. I gather most of the griping on here is about the multiplayer. I'd honestly ignore those complaints and highly recommend picking up the game just for the campaign.

(Review relevant to the Gamecube and Wii versions, and basically relevant to the HD release as well) One of my favourite games of all time. A gaming masterpiece, with a distinct atmosphere and sense of dread. Awesome looking enemies. Always makes me jump somewhere, no matter how many times I play. Plenty of puzzles, story, item collection and different ways of getting through the game,; but not so many as to become overwhelming like for example RPGs can be. Improves over the 1997 original in many ways. It;s slightly more accessible and playable with things like auto aim, slightly easier inventory management and defensive items. Awesome, creative survival features like burning the bodies and having to manipulate items in the inventory to make them useful. So much back story to follow if you have time/ interest. Why not a 10? Well, some of the enemies are actually a bit too easy compared to the original (snake, Hunters), and the end boss is a bit underwhelming and easy to kill. In RE it was very satisfying to kill the Hunters, here it doesn't feel the same. There's still very slightly too much back tracking at times, but nothing like RE Zero - which is still a good game by the way.

I absolutely love the Resident Evil series, at least up until RE4, which perfectly straddled the line between action and survival horror, with a few puzzles as well. RE5 is the most disappointing one I've played (not played RE6 yet though. ) Controls are awkward, in all configurations I've tried. I can live with having to stop to shoot, like with all previous RE games. But it seems to take an age to stop, aim and shoot. It's like there are too many frames of animation. Also actions like taking out and swiping the knife, and picking up items all seem to take too long in the heat of battle. It's also too common that a foe, like the "dogs" get under your feet or to your side, and it's actually difficult to aim at them. An auto aim like in GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption, for example, would really help. Basically, the game throws enemies at you at a rate of an all action shoot em up, but makes you suffer through dated survival horror controls. It makes for a frustrating experience where you have to constantly run away and turn and shoot back. A duck-for-cover action is also missing. I didn't love the gold-collecting mechanic of RE4, but it least it sort of made sense in areas like the castle and churches. There's far too much of it in RE5, everywhere, and it just feels like a chore, as does all the box breaking. The truck mounted machine gun sequences are dull and just too similar to Medal of Honour or Call of Duty. Not subtle and a bit out of character for the series. The Co-op character doesn't add much to the experience. She isn't as bad as some make out, in terms of being plain unhelpful, but I find her a chore and a distraction not a fun addition. The graphics are detailed and the characters and enemies look quite realistic. However, aside from HD they are not a major step up in quality from Resident Evil 4, or particularly impressive in relation to other PS3 titles. In fact the HD Remake of RE is more visually appealing in my view, albeit with fixed backgrounds. To its credit, the enemies are suitably gruesome and varied, and there are some very memorable scenes and set pieces- like the part in the mines where you carry a lantern and enemies come out of the dark for example. Sound effects are great. Sniping works well. It's not a terrible game, but rather disappointing for someone keen on the previous main-series RE games. If you want action packed third person shooters, there are surely better options.
