Splatoon Raiders successfully twists the Splatoon formula into a slick, satisfying single player-focused looter shooter that's incredibly difficult to put down. Surprisingly deep loot game, some absolutely hectic encounters and a bleakly-beachy vibe all its own, there's plenty here for fans as well as anyone previously put off by the series' multiplayer focus.

Splatoon Raiders maintains its infectious ink-shooting core but remixes it into a loot-driven, gadget-enhanced adventure RPG. It sacrifices competitive multiplayer for deeper single-player/co-op depth, customisation, and narrative focus, offering a fresh direction that complements rather than replaces the mainline games. After a trilogy of Turf Wars, it feels good to finally work together with other players on an adventure on such a grand scale. Splatoon 3 isn't going anywhere, and even Splatoon 2 is still active, making Raiders absolutely a justified experience.

Splatoon Raiders takes the consistently improved upon gameplay of the Salmon Run side game and perfects it by introducing a continuously engaging story mode, countless items to collect and upgrade, and multiple gameplay styles to beat each challenge the game throws at you to give equal entertainment no matter the type of player you are. The core gameplay loop is incredible, as you explore more of the map taking on different types of missions, you're constantly getting more powerful in unique ways, from simple things like more weapon damage to equipping upgrades which provide your gadgets with interesting gimmicks like exploding when throwing them on the battlefield or being able to use them twice at a time. The music does a good job setting the tone, with what many have come to expect in the post-apocalyptic and rigid world of Splatoon, but with its own flair, and is some of the best the series has to offer. If you are a fan of looter shooters, or maybe tired of their repetitive gameplay and are looking for something bolder or new, Splatoon Raiders is an excellent new take on the genre which I can't recommend enough.

Nintendo dips a "tentacle" into the looter-shooter genre with Splatoon Raiders, and the result is one of this summer's most refreshing surprises. It is the perfect vacation game for Nintendo Switch 2 and an ideal entry point for both newcomers and veterans alike.

Splatoon Raiders is a looter shooter wrapped in Nintendo's kid-friendly world, but it's not to be slept on. While not as deep or complex as some other games in the genre, its charm, loot chase, and satisfying gameplay loop make it one of my favorite games of 2026 so far.

I realise that I’m not the target audience for Splatoon Raiders, and I’m sure those that are the target audience will get a great deal of value out of the depth of its systems. And from Nintendo’s point of view, it’s a relatively low-cost project to fill the release schedule until the next big thing (Fire Emblem) comes along. I do, however, suspect that just about everyone, from the diehard fans to me on the spectrum of Splatoon advocacy, will ultimately wish that the first proper single-player outing for the franchise were a bit more than it turned out to be.

Instead of competitive multiplayer, Splatoon Raiders has you take on fishlike enemies with an array of weapons and gadgets. It’s all fun enough, as a playground with well-designed jungle gyms and monkey bars.

This is the biggest surprise about Splatoon Raiders: it is pedestrian. If you’ve played one of dozens of modern cooperative action games, you’ve played this.

If you enjoy this type of shooting combat, you're in for a treat. Shooting, dodging and finding creative ways to pass a level was a fun challenge. The game is good but It can feel really tideous at times, especially when you're trying to grind to get to the next level.

Splatoon Raiders is an entertaining game with fast-paced action, colorful presentation, and a fun selection of weapons that encourages you to experiment with different playstyles. The online co-op mode is one of its strongest features and makes the more chaotic missions considerably more enjoyable. However, the first one or two hours feel unnecessarily slow, and the game takes too long to show its full potential. The bigger problem comes later, when the missions and objectives become extremely repetitive. Instead of introducing enough fresh ideas, the game eventually asks you to replay previous levels at higher difficulties, which feels more like padding than meaningful new content. The enjoyable combat helps, but it cannot completely hide the lack of variety.Overall, Splatoon Raiders has a strong foundation, satisfying weapons, and a genuinely appealing co-op mode, but it does not maintain that freshness throughout the entire experience. I had fun with it, but in my opinion, it is not the masterpiece some people are making it out to be.7/10.

Ngl, It was fun the first half a dozen hours but it was far too overrated. Not a fan of games with mindless action.

The game offers a fun blend of world building, lore, adventure and interactions between the characters. Definitely a step up from the Splatoon campaign modes of the past. While it doesn’t quite top the storytelling aspects of Octo Expansion, it improves upon what Splatoon 2’s base campaign, Splatoon 3’s Base campaign and Side Order lack in regard to the story it has to offer. It also feels like there may be more in terms of future lore that has yet to be revealed too for Deep Cut and the Salmonids. As far as gameplay goes, it’s your usual Splatoon fare of inking turf to travel about. Granted, the addition of new methods of traversing the exploration levels makes the experience more enjoyable and expansive as well. The downside is the dungeon levels do lack in terms of having some means of dimensionality and liveliness to make it feel like you’re in an underground cave. They are very much reminiscent of what we saw in Side Order (or, rather, exactly like Side Order’s in some cases). Outside of this, the Co-Op gameplay is very seamless and enjoyable, the frame rate is stable and the gameplay loop is enjoyable in the sense that you aren’t rushed to play continuously to catch up, but rather at your own pace.
