The Quarry is a good piece of cinematography and storytelling, lost in its medium of choice. The gameplay elements aren't particularly fun, nor worthwhile replaying. The cutscenes are good the first time around, but are certainly get a bit grating the longer the game goes on. Standout performances from the actors certainly carry The Quarry, and it is worthwhile playing through the story at least once, but the second time around feels too much of a chore. The Quarry is the definition of a weekend rental.

The Quarry is a retread of the familiar genre tropes and Supermassive's own debut game, Until Dawn, but the quality bar is somehow lower than 7 years ago. Still, it’s entertaining enough for one playthrough if you like ”QTE movies”.

As I mentioned earlier it’s hard to review games like The Quarry without spoiling the story, but I hope I’ve been able to whet your appetite enough with what could easily be Supermassives best entry to date. With the beautifully crafted scenery, soundtrack and great cast it’s certainly one I’ll be playing again and again once I get my Series X version!

Slow walk sim into forced unskippable cut-scenes with the worst voice acting in any game. Did they hire from Temu? Brenda Song was the saving Grace but slogging through 8 horrifyingly boring chapters to get some below mid moments is not enough to lift this from a 0 to a 1. Slow walking, bad writing, weird dialog, pointless lore and character building. I am ashamed to have played this game but my chat enjoyed the torture and mental toil that came along with watching me stare at the screen in disgust while the horrible music played as if it was some epic montage when it seemed like a high school coded science fair project. I highly recommend anyone that would like to punish their enemies to recommend this game to those they hate. this may actually be a CIA experiment to make people suffer and see if they will do it willingly. Chat comments: "off brand until dawn" / "Disgraced my future children" / "Ryan gosling sad emoji" "it was really bad" "i now know why i never played this again" #discodisapproved

The Quarry is a mid-tier AAA game. As one of Supermassive's finest projects, it perfectly recreates the spirit of classic 1980s American slasher films. Graphics - 9/10. Built on UE4, the developers pushed the engine to its absolute limit, delivering visuals that practically blur the line between a game and a live-action movie. The facial animation of the characters is phenomenal - at the time of the game's release, it was simply unmatched. The only downsides, for which I docked one point, are the aggressive post-processing effects like motion blur and depth of field, as well as the cinematic black bars. You cannot disable them natively in the settings, so I had to use a third-party tool called IGCSClient. Another minor flaw is the "plastic-looking" water (UE4 traditionally struggles with fluid simulation), but fortunately, there are not that many scenes featuring bodies of water. Gameplay - 6/10. The Quarry offers classic interactive movie gameplay. Everything follows the Supermassive formula: slow-paced exploration of an atmospheric night camp, collecting notes and Tarot cards, and QTEs. The "Paths" choice system is executed brilliantly in my experience, your decisions truly carry weight and can either save a character or get them killed instantly. Audio - 9.5/10. The soundtrack is spectacular, perfectly setting the tone for a teen slasher. Modern indie rock and pop tracks contrast beautifully with the dark orchestral scores during action sequences. The Hollywood actors earned every single penny of their paychecks. The voice acting of Ted Raimi (Travis), David Arquette (Chris), and almost all of the young counselors sounds incredibly natural, capturing all the necessary nuances of fear, panic, or silly teenage humor. The characters turned out colorful and lively you genuinely believe them and root for them. The sound effects and ambience are also solid, though without any real "wow" factor. Story - 7/10. The game's lore and the story told through notes, newspaper clippings, and podcasts are genuinely interesting. However, there is nothing groundbreaking about the main plot — it is your typical slasher setup: occasionally silly, sometimes cliché (the friend I played with during my first playthrough kept guessing the jumpscares), with its own twists and turns. Still, I feel like these kinds of projects are carried heavily by the characters and the acting, and the performances here are a solid 10 out of 10. All in all, it is just a decent plot: you won't find yourself facepalming through the game, and for that, I'm thankful. Game Time - 8–10 hours. I beat the game twice. The first time was a co-op run with a friend — we ended up burying half the crew, and that playthrough took about 8 hours. The second time I went solo, aiming for the best ending to save all the counselors, which took around 10 hours. Bugs and optimization - 7/10. It is a bit hard for me to judge this fairly because across two full playthroughs, I didn't experience any crashes or major bugs. The worst graphical artifact I noticed was Abi's hair glitching out in a couple of scenes. The game ran surprisingly stable for me. However, it would be foolish to deny the well-known fact: at launch, The Quarry was a technical mess with tons of issues of varying scale — from severe FPS drops to micro-stutters. For me personally, it was an 8 out of 10 experience. But I stand firmly against the absolute BS of unfinished release versions, so I'm knocking it down to a 7. Verdict: 8/10. Naturally, I recommend The Quarry. Fans of the genre can safely pick it up at full price. For everyone else, I'd suggest waiting for a 50% discount, as 8 hours of gameplay isn't exactly a whole lot.

The Quarry’s charming cast and eye-watering visual splendour are worth the price of entry alone, but its strong, varying plot is where it truly pops.

Wearing every cliché on its sleeve, The Quarry is having a whale of a time with its setting. Sometimes it's satirising the slasher film, others it subverts them. With many endings and path-altering decisions to make, no two playthroughs are alike. Coupled with a heap of horror alumni, as well as up and comers, The Quarry is a veritable romp through jump scares, ghost stories and video nasties.

An excellent game in every respect; everything is perfect without flaws. Excellent acting, realistic graphics to the point that I felt like I was the graphics and the game was the real thing.

A true love letter to classic teen slasher flicks, The Quarry is a memorable mix of polish and tension let down by a few frustrating mechanics. A real treat and must-play for fans of the horror genre.

Sometimes ridiculously ridiculous, sometimes convincingly exciting; this interactive slasher film is a worthy spiritual successor to Until Dawn. Unfortunately, The Quarry has barely been modernized, with pretty much the exact same minimal gameplay, graphics, and story structure. But the plot, characters and kills are most likely exactly what Supermassive Games fans were hoping for.

Rewarding those who are restrained as well as those who are reckless, The Quarry is nerve-shredding as a single-player game - so who knows what chaos will ensue with its multiplayer modes? For fans of schlocky yet satirical horror games and films, The Quarry is not one to miss.

Supermassive Games keeps giving us the same game every time and it’s simply not getting any better. The Quarry isn’t scary, isn’t thrilling and isn’t fun.

Honestly I was expecting a lot more from this game. I loved Until Dawn (2015) and its rich lore, excellent scares and excellent balance between watching and playing. Sadly The Quarry isn't as good. It took me about 9 hours to get through it and it was a slow ten hours. Realistically they only had 90 minutes of content. The story is unimaginative and unoriginal. It's pretty much the same story as Howling VI: The Freaks (1991) but that is actually way better because it humanises the enemy and is scarier. Not good when you're getting compared unfavourably to a Howling sequel. Anyway ignoring the slow pacing and inconsistent tone the graphics are good with some technical issues involving the depth of field and water which can be a little distracting. Sound design and music is excellent. The acting is also excellent except for one miscast in the form of Ethan Suplee. The characters are actually really quite watchable but should be in a better game. I messed up in the final chapter and didn't get the good ending and much as I wanted to see it I really couldn't bring myself to play through it again, maybe in a few years. I tried the movie mode hoping it would just give me the core story but sadly it was the whole game without the walking around so was probably even more boring than the game. Watching movie mode made me realise that in my two times playing Until Dawn I had two quite different stories but my choices in The Quarry largely only really affected the ending. You know what I also hate, the werewolves don't look like wolves at all. Overall slow and tonally inconsistent with some entertainment within.

What a cringe fest. They just have to throw punchlines all the time. And every frucking game since 2020 just has to have a social-media-influencer type of character, like, comment and subscribe.
SummaryAs the sun sets on the last day of summer camp, the teenage counselors of Hackett's Quarry throw a party to celebrate. No kids. No adults. No rules. Things quickly take a turn for the worse. Hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister, the teens' party plans unravel into an unpredictable night of horror. Friendly bant... Read More
