Beast of Reincarnation’s combat isn’t just innovative, it’s incredibly fun. It’s mix of real-time combat and turn-based action is a perfect blend.

Beast of Reincarnation is a bold departure for Game Freak, blending Soulslike combat with tactical decision-making to create battles that are both engaging and rewarding. While its narrative and gameplay loop become repetitive over time, the game’s satisfying combat and sense of discovery make it an enjoyable experience that successfully showcases the studio’s willingness to explore new ideas.

Despite a few stumbles here and there, and a dose of overdesign, Beast of Reincarnation is a bold strike into something new for Game Freak, and a genuine foundation that I hope the studio continues to build upon.

Beast of Reincarnation shines with excellent mobility, a satisfying combat-system and a lot of options in terms of customization but suffers from technical problems and a restrictive structure.

Beast of Reincarnation is Game Freak's first real foray outside their comfort zone, and despite some missteps where pacing is concerned, it shows massive potential.

Beast of Reincarnation is an ambitious action RPG that blends a heartfelt coming-of-age story with satisfying parry-driven combat, memorable audio design, and rewarding exploration. Emma's gradual emotional awakening provides the game's strongest throughline, but uneven pacing, repetitive environments, limited enemy variety, and underdeveloped RPG systems prevent its strongest ideas from reaching their full potential. While Game Freak's latest venture is filled with flashes of brilliance and genuine charm, its fragmented execution makes it easier to admire than wholeheartedly recommend.

In a game stuffed with plants that are equal parts beautiful and deadly, it’s fitting how every rose in Beast of Reincarnation has its thorn. Said rose petals still have their charm some of time, but their qualities would be much more apparent after a fair bit of pruning.
