Man of Medan kicks off The Dark Pictures Anthology so elegantly and chillingly that you just can't get enough of that lovie-dovie stuff.

As only the first entry in Supermassive Games' new anthology series, The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan offers a very replayable experience that is a lot of fun both in single player and with friends, leaving us very excited to see what they have in store for future entries yet to come.

There's no anthology in The Dark Pictures anthology yet, but his first history, Man of Medan, bring an (enjoyable?) ghost history in high sea. Some little problems in the continuity of the plot and annoying image freezing moments, but a great first step in the new horror game of Supermassive Games.

Sadly, you can’t help but compare it to Until Dawn which quite frankly did everything better. Man of Medan is over far too quickly and doesn’t have the same impact of Supermassive’s previous entry. It is, however, a short but sweet enjoyable romp which is way better when played with friends.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan offers up fun frights and a solid choice-based horror experience - especially when played with others on the same couch.

Man of Medan is built from the same mold as Until Dawn, but the writing lost a bit of charm on the way, and the technical performance hinders the game greatly. After multiple playthroughs of the game, I’m still left with several questions—not about the story, or about what’s next to come for The Dark Pictures, but about the sustainability of this long-term eight-game project. Is one game every six months too much of a workload? Will there be enough variety to keep the tropes from being stale? And will these neat co-operative modes be good fits for whatever story is to come?

Man of Medan has a couple of fun gimmicks, great faces and bunch of exciting moments spread throughout, but it's also filled with badly paced sequences, bland characters, annoying technical issues and cheap scares that are so frequent and so poorly executed that you can't help but feel offended and frustrated.

I think this was just better than The Quarry (2022) but not a lot better. If it’s not Until Dawn (2015) then I don’t think I like Supermassive Games which is a shame as there is so much potential. I guess I’ll start with the positive of Man of Medan, the jump scares work well and got me! It looks and sounds great and I experienced very few minor technical issues except occasional flash frames when changing camera angles. I actually think it looked better than the Quarry with no real issues with depth of field or the water. There were some awkward moments when different paths and animations join leading to disjointed action but it was largely ignorable. I got the bad ending again, I was doing so well and not making any mistakes then suddenly near the end when it matters it becomes nearly impossible to press the buttons quick enough. The character and story are very forgettable like a watered down Jacob's Ladder (1990). It’s very slow and lacks any real depth. It’s just about short enough that it’s not a real problem and you can get through it and not feel like a waste of time. I don’t think I’ll bother with the rest of The Dark Pictures unless they are cheap in the sale.

great graphics but not great facial animation, level design is decent, characters are mostly not well written and the story is insanely bland and uninteresting. only 4 hours of content if you only do one playthrough, which based on the quality of the game, 95% of people are going to do
