This is a good game, but really did not hook me like 4 and 5 did. The story writing was especially disappointing to me, and really pales in comparison to how fleshed out 4 and 5 was. Maybe that's what people like about it? The villains all seemed like idiots except for the main one. Tartarus was kinda lame, and the social links were laughably bad half the time. What kept me playing was the combat, persona fusion, and general gameplay loop that I love about persona games. Overall I was pretty disappointed, I suppose because of how highly praised P3 is.

Best Final Fantasy in 20 years. The story-telling, characters, gameplay, level design, all work together excellently to tell this story more fleshed out than ever before. I appreciate the new multiversal twist as well, as it keeps me guessing and invested. The combat is exactly what I want out of a modern Final Fantasy with action based gameplay; engaging fast-paced battles with just enough strategy to keep things interesting and prevent button mashing. The level design is significantly improved over Remake, with more open areas and backtracking. Easy to navigate maps and fast travel anywhere to reduce running around. The maps are large but dense, and not too big. Exploration is rewarding most of the time and the side quests are mostly entertaining. Unfortunately the game has some pretty glaring issues. The visuals are pretty disappointing from a technical side. Lighting and shadows can look especially bad. Performance mode is also fairly blurry at times, even on my 1080p screen. I can imagine it looks much worse on a 4k display. These issues, while disappointing, are ultimately forgivable and even possibly fixable with upcoming patches. My major issue with this game is the pacing. There are tons, and I mean tons of pointless mini games. A lot of these are required to advance the story, and it really takes me out of the world and ruins immersion. There are also issues with many pointless story beats, even entire chapters, taking up time for no reason. Thankfully that seems to be mostly contained within the first half of the game. I do appreciate conversation between the party members, as it serves to flesh out the story and world, but the game is at it's worst when it forces you to stop the story and play mini games. Overall I am loving my time with this game, but I just wish the devs had put that effort they wasted on mini games into actually creating more interesting content. 8/10

This is my first time playing a Bravely game, and I have to say I am somewhat disappointed. Visuals: Great environments and animations. Servicable character and monster designs. Audio: The music was unintrusive but also uninspired. Many tracks just seemed to copy Final Fantasy. I found the English voice acting to be a mixed bag. Some characters sounded absolutely atrocious, or grated on my nerves so bad I had to switch to Japanese. Story: Boring, to be honest. I found myself skipping most scenes after act 1, and eventually stopped playing altogether after starting act 4. Characters are mostly shallow and have little charm. There were a few cool scenes here and there. I could have put up with this story if I had liked the gameplay more. Gameplay: This is where the problems really got to me. Despite liking the combat mechanics, I had many issues with the job system and exploration. The abilities are extremely unbalanced, to the point where I only needed to spam 5 or 6 abilities every battle (despite having dozens available per character). Even during bosses, I would just need to use the same Body Slam and Pressure Point repeatedly while healing. Very little strategy. There are also gameplay mechanics that are just missing entirely. Things such as a mini map in dungeons, side quest tracking, and other small inconvieniences really add up to make things annoying. Some gameplay features are simply there to be restrictive, such as the equipment weight system. I would much rather be given bonuses for using the correct equipment, rather than feel restricted. Positive reinforcement over negative kinda thing. The game also expects you to grind, often needing you to battle even after clearing dungeons or completing all optional side quests to be strong enough to progress. It all adds up to just feel monotonous and unneccessary. To be fair, many people may like this game, and I'm fine with that. But I've played much better JRPGs. I got maybe 40 hrs in before I quit, so there is some merit here. But I can't recommend paying full price. Buy it $30 or less.

While not quite a masterpiece like the original, this is still a great game. You can tell this was carefully crafted with the original in mind. Many small details have mostly been preserved. The game may play differently, but it all comes together to give you the same feeling as playing RE4 again for the first time. The fact that this isn't terrible is some kind of miracle. What holds it back from a perfect score is that it often takes one step forward, one step back in it's design. For every improvement, there is a new negative aspect added along the way. For example, movement is now much less restrictive, yet it feels way more clunky and unresponsive compared to the original. Knives are overall improved, but the guns' crosshair bloom replaces laser sights for more RNG based shooting. Ashley is overall much improved character, but unfortunately her AI has been downgraded. Krauser has been improved with more backstory and dynamic with Leon, the tradeoff being that Saddler has lost all personality and charm. Same with Luis and Ada; Luis is better, but Ada is worse. I am pointing out these negatives to highlight why I still prefer the original. Yes, most of the good stuff has been preserved from the original, which is why I give it such a high score. I don't need to repeat why RE4 is so great as it's been said a million times already. I have had a great time with over 150 hours already. I just can't help but be a little disappointed that Capcom didn't try harder to actually improve what was already there, instead we get these little weird tradeoffs. I could go on and on, but ultimately the game is still great. **** quite the masterpiece the original was.

Excellent game with a few hiccups, Final Bar Line is a fantastic celebration of music, rhythm gaming, and Final Fantasy rpg mechanics. I will surely be playing this one for many, many hours. Runs great on Switch. There are some things that could be fixed however. The audio delay settings may not work for some TVs. This can easily be patched. There is currently a game breaking bug involving deleting summon stones that corrupts your data. I believe SE is aware of the issue. I also don't think there are enough team slots (5 is not enough). Overall though, I highly recommend this game to music fans.

I'll be honest and upfront; I'm not thrilled with this new direction. Resident Evil has been such a huge part of my childhood, and still to this day my favorite horror franchise in video games. It is my go-to series for shooting, horror, action, ridiculous situations, and cheesy stories and dialogue. I am overwhelmed with thoughts for the latest game, so here is my review after completing the game recently. Village is at it's absolute best when you are exploring the environment, upgrading your arsenal, and making progress. The atmosphere and exploration are truly excellent. I really enjoyed the setting and environments. Pretty much every map was well designed and visually stunning. It feels like old school resident evil, which I thought was lacking in RE7. The characters in Village are a mixed bag. Duke was surprisingly great, and I'd love to see more of him in the future. Heisenberg was also really interesting, and I really wish he and Ethan could have joined their efforts to fight Miranda. That would have been a nice twist and shaken up what otherwise just felt like more of the same. Miranda's other three children were good enough to keep me interested, and they were exceptionally well acted. Miranda herself fell kind of flat for me. As for Ethan and his family, **** a fan. In fact, they really got on my nerves in both this game and RE7. Ethan is supposed to be an avatar for the player, but that really does not work for me. It's a trope in video games that needs to go away. On top of that, he is very whiny and talks way too much to be the silent protag type. This conflicting of ideals just does not work for me. I feel like the game was supposed to be more dramatic, sad, empathetic, etc. Like it wants me to take it seriously. That just does not make sense in a ridiculous, totally unrealistic RE game. Resident Evil "B movie" narrative is at it's best when the characters are funny and the dialogue overflows with cheese. Leon in RE4 has to be my favorite example of this. He is completely un-phased by the horrific things happening to him. It's like a joke to him. He is completely capable of dealing with any threat, to the point that he just mouths off the dumbest one-liners. And yet, you can tell he cares about people and has some sense of justice. Ethan is like the polar opposite to me, and really **** the fun out the experience. He's pretty much a downer the entire time. Chris was similarly disappointing. I don't need to explain why. Even his teammates told him how much of a jerk he was. And that brings me to the story. RE has never really been about the story. I don't really have much to say here, except that it's typical crazy RE. Unfortunately the main characters kind of ruined it for me. It was silly and ridiculous, and nonsensical. Which is a good thing. But ultimately didn't really matter because of the characters. I appreciated the inspiration they drew from RE4. They nailed the merchant and exploration. Searching every room for treasure and resources is always a blast. That said, I feel like they missed what really made me want to play RE4 so many times: the guns. RE4 has the best gunplay in the series, and really in any shooter I've played. Each gun had it's own personality, and it's own special name. You can feel every shot. You can immediately feel the upgrades as soon as you fire. You can really feel the impact of your choices in upgrades by the end of the game. Village, on the other hand, doesn't really have any of this. It just feels like generic CoD guns to me. Guns have standard-issue feel; even the names are generic. This, unfortunately, is the best way to describe the gunplay. Generic. By the end of the game, I really felt no difference in my arsenal from when I started. Most shots didn't even phase the enemies, other than lowering their health. Unloading an entire handgun clip into an enemy, only for it to keep moving as if you hadn't even shot it, is not very satisfying. Huge missed opportunity here. Some aspects of the gameplay were really well done. The transitions from horror/action were telegraphed in each section so you knew what to expect. Several boss fights were engaging and well done, like Moreau (fish guy). Miranda was pretty stunning, visually. Each of the vampire sisters was short and sweet, with a cool finale on the rooftops with Lady Dimitrescu. Most of the puzzle solving, while easy, was enjoyable. I especially liked the ball puzzles. Gotta say though, those torch puzzles can go to hell. I adored the section with the slug baby. Just overall fantastic. Even the puzzles leading up to it were engaging and dynamic. Very well done. The doll boss fight was a bit lame, but that section overall was maybe the best part. Honestly this was only a fraction of my thoughts on this game and modern RE, but I have to end somewhere. I will just say, I hope to see more returning characters in the next game. I really don't care about Ethan's family.

Survival seems to be much more of the focus this time (as opposed to action or horror), and that's fine with me. Gunplay is solid, exploration is interesting, and the story is alright. Unfortunately, this game is not scary and the environments were mostly dull. The only two that interested me were the ship and the birthday shed. The enemies were well designed and creepy, however. Overall this is a solid game, but the horror aspect needs to be re-evaluated. I just don’t think this game feels very Resident Evil. Layers of Fear 2 is not for everyone. I'm not surprised this game is getting so many mixed and negative reviews. However, if you like slow burn, artistic horror, you will enjoy this game. I mean, it's beautiful. The visuals, art direction, music, story, etc. Tons of references to old movies, which is very cool. Incredible atmosphere and constantly changing environments. There is a depth here that goes way beyond "jump-scare" games, and I appreciate that. The game has a lot of detail and meaning behind each set-piece, which doesn't always make sense the first time through. Getting to the end and putting the pieces together just becomes that much sweeter. Pay attention, listen to dialogue, and look for these details, and you will be rewarded. Unfortunately the game has flaws. Act 2 is rather boring. The chase sequences involving the formless monster are tedious and predictable instead of suspenseful. The story is pretty hard to get a grasp on through the first play, although that isn't necessarily bad for some (myself included). If you like atmosphere and psychological horror, with a lot of homage to classic movies, you will like this game. If you want constant jump-scares or don't like walking-sims, stay away.

Kingdom Hearts III is a good game. I can't say it's great or even satisfying, though. In my eyes, the first game is almost perfect. It had a simple story, strategic combat, and was a stunning crossover effort that worked against all odds. KH II and BBS were a step down, but still great games. Everything else...well, let's just say they lost touch with what worked so well in the first game. I actually have a lot of praise to throw at this game; most notably the beautiful visuals. Stunning is a good description, and one I would have used often. The game also ran amazingly well and felt very smooth. Basically every technical aspect of this game was very well done. Music and sound is top notch, as always. The gameplay was mostly fun, although combat had issues. Calling it a 'button-masher' would be too harsh, I think. But I got that vibe. The forms and keyblade designs from the main worlds were rather disappointing, too. I miss the Valor, Wisdom, Master type transformations from the second game. I also had issues with the Frozen and Monsters Inc. worlds, which were underdeveloped and a little boring. I will soon be starting the end-game content, which looks promising. The story, as convoluted and weird as it was, actually came to a mostly-complete conclusion. Every character received their moment, and all sub-plots I could remember were wrapped up in a neat bow. Unfortunately, these moments all happened within a couple of hours and weren't given enough time to gel, so the impact on me was minimal. In fact, the entire end portion of the game felt rushed and often focused on pointless sections instead of giving me more neat battles or plot-payoff. Basically what I want from future games is a much simpler plot. These characters are great...just do something less convoluted with them. I mean, this is Disney. What would be wrong with going back to a classic good vs. evil plot? Also, I want Star Wars, Marvel, and Square worlds in the next one. I can dream, I guess. To sum up, I think this game is good. Definitely worth playing. **** completely satisfying for a final installment in a story-arc. Final Fantasy is missing altogether, as are several game modes or side quests I thought were obvious (arena or Sephiroth battle?). Overall though, I would recommend this game. Just keep the expectations in check.

I paid 30$ for this, and that's what I'd say this game is worth (Given KH 1.5 + 2.5 is worth $60) That said, there's some fun gameplay here. KH 3d has fun combat, and flowmotion is an interesting way to move around and unleash special moves. Unfortunately the story, writing, and a few gameplay ideas are questionable. "Dropping" serves no purpose other than being one of the "D's" in 3D, which is a dumb idea to base your whole game around. The entire premise is silly and potentially frustrating, but fortunately doesn't impact the game much. The story is confusing as usual, although this time even more so. My advice would be to turn your brain off and enjoy the individual world's stories. On the bright side, KH 0.2 was a wonderful glimpse into the future KH 3, and is a good game on it's own merit. Aqua's journey into the abyss was interesting and fun, and shed some new light on certain events from past games and hinted at future events.

If you play Tales of Berseria, play it for the story. The characters are incredibly well developed and the story is unique and interesting. Few games can say their characters could pass for real people with real complexities and personalities. The dialogue is also endlessly interesting and/or humorous. Magilou and Eleanor in particular are fascinating to me, but all are exceptional. The story itself is centered around revenge, and the main characters could actually be viewed as the villains for a good portion of the game. It's an interesting plot line that I can't recall having seen before. That said, the rest of the game is lacking. Graphics are decent but technically unimpressive by all standards. Level design is lazy and uninspired. Enemies are basic animal tropes. Music is completely forgettable except maybe a couple tunes. Fighting bosses is exceedingly frustrating when you can't build up combos. Exploration can be fun, but mostly you'l just want to get to the next area. Overall I was satisfied with my playthrough, and a discounted $20 price. I got roughly 40 hours of play, and had a blast with the story. As long as you can accept the game's flaws, it's a decent play. There are several other 2017 RPGs I'd recommend before this one, though.

It's un-modern. Zooming in should slow down the aiming, right? Well, here, the camera moves at the same speed when zoomed. That makes it really hard to aim certain weapons like the pistol. The visuals are well done, the story is great, and the audio is fantastic (aside from a few voice actors like Justin and Sue's characters). And the soundtrack, oh that soundtrack. Words cannot describe how amazingly fantastic the music is. It was one of the first games to have a fully featured soundtrack. Personally, this is still my favorite game soundtrack ever. The gameplay is also expertly designed and insanely fun...under the right circumstances. The base game is horribly imbalanced, with many spells, skills, and items completely useless. It is an extremely easy game. I had to dock off a point for this only fault. This issue is easily fixed however, with the mod called "Grandia Redux." Look it up and play it. It changes the balance of gameplay to be challenging and rewarding, and easily makes the game a 10/10.

The game is a masterpiece of JRPG goodness. It's not a perfect game, but would be trivial to nit-pick the very few and minor problems with the game. The huge improvement over it's predecessors is the dungeon-crawling. Instead of a slog through randomly-generated and linear corridors, we get to sneak through carefully crafted and well designed environments. They're just as fun as any other aspect of this game, which already has a ton of content and variety. The depth of gameplay, excellent writing in nearly all possible ways, and edge-of-your-seat story are done so well that you won't want to stop until you reach the **** then you'll probably want to start a new game+ right away. This game captivated me from beginning to end. It took me 110 hours (or three weeks of constantly playing in my free time). I also believe this game can be enjoyed by most people (if not all) who have the time to dedicate to this game. Even non-rpg players should give this incredible game a try. Layers of Fear is exactly what it sets out to be; a trippy indie horror game. Inspired by P.T. and Amnesia, LoF has you walking through an ever-changing house that plays tricks on your mind - both behind your back and in plain view. There are many memorable set pieces that I thoroughly enjoyed progressing through; most notable of which was the nursery. There was a lot of effort put into this game, and anyone who says otherwise is lying. While the game has many cool screen effects and the environment can transform in the blink of an eye, the game is not all that scary. There's hardly a sense of dread that is prevalent in many other horror games. What kees you playing (and in my case, totally immersed) is the sense of discovery and progression of the story. Not to mention the general creepiness of, well, everything in the house. A few jump scares did get to me as well. This is definitely a great horror game worth checking out, and one of my favorites to date.

Hardcore Gamer wrote that Apotheon was a classic case of "style over substance". I can 100% confirm that this is NOT the case. Apotheon is a classic case of style AND substance. Yes, the visuals are very impressive and a fresh compared to most other generic cartoon or stylized games, but it doesn't stop there either. The voice acting is top notch and the greek mythos is a fantastic platform for storytelling and exploration, and explore you will. There are many side paths and hidden treasures to be found, and even more side quests to conquer. On top of this, the game is a blast to play. The game has a heavy influence from RPGs and Metroid-vania style games. Combat is deep and challenging, and there are dozens of weapons to choose from and a variety of melee, thrown, projectile, and even specialty and rare weapons. There are also many consumables and bombs to help augment your character or strategize against any of the tough boss battles. Upgrades are also plentiful, as you can visit the marketplace to learn new crafting recipes, upgrading weapon proficiencies and armor strength, etc. However there are problems that can't be ignored. The game crashes around once an hour, but this isn't a huge deal due to the auto save feature. Some of the stronger enemies can occasionally knock you outside of the map, and barriers prevent you from getting back on track. The UX is strangely designed, and often impossible to use correctly during more intense combat scenarios. Selecting weapons or items mid-combat is nearly impossible without taking damage or pausing. Combat itself can sometimes be akward as well, as weapon hit boxes for certain weapons like the spears are so far out that you can be right next to the enemy and still not hit them. All in all, I had to subtract a couple points due to technical flaws, but the bugs can easily be patched. This is worth full price, and definitely worth a free download on PS Plus. 8/10

Each entry has been great in its own right (many would say 6 wasn't good in any regard, but I personally enjoyed the story and the combat, although it was a disappointment). While many argue over new vs. old, I'm here to say we should appreciate both. This remake clearly comes from an age in gaming that was underdeveloped and almost completely lacking in horror titles. Resident Evil revolutionized horror games for sure, but it isn't without its own problems. Poor aiming, bad dialogue, and a horrible camera can't be forgiven just because it is an old game. There are also many instances of low quality texturing, which have no place in an HD remaster. The game is fundamentally different than the newer games (4-6), but that isn't a bad thing. For example, combat is much harder and more involved in RE4, however in this remake survival is all about item management and planning ahead. This aspect of gameplay was very enjoyable. Exploring a creepy environment, solving puzzles, item management, and solving the mystery of the Spencer mansion was a great time. The fundamental gameplay design has aged extremely well; however, in practice many game mechanics like the ones I mentioned before have not. I would have liked to see a remake that addressed these issues. Regardless, its an excellent game. 8/10 As an aside, I would like to point out that the people who put these old horror games on a pedestal and give the new ones crap are generally wrong. This game did not scare me any more than RE4, Evil Within, or any other modern horror title. I did not play this game on original release, so I have no nostalgia or bias towards it. The only fundamental difference in the two styles of gameplay is item management and puzzle frequency. If you want real horror, play P.T. or Amnesia: TDD.

Just as good as season 1, for different reasons. I still cringe sometimes at the animations (the facial animations are especially bad). I also can't help but feel like most of my decisions don't matter. These games would be a lot more involving if there were actually consequences instead of just an illusion. That being said, they are still very fun to watch unfold. I'll surely be playing season 3, maybe once it goes on sale. 8/10

Dear Esther is an interesting experience, although I'm hesitant to say it was **** writing is obnoxious and sometimes cryptic, and it just comes off as pretentious. The story behind it is actually fairly good, however. The best part of this game for me was the gorgeous environments. The caves in particular were stunning. That being said, they basically have to be to balance out the actual amount of time it takes to beat, which is about an hour. Overall this game was interesting, and it was worth the $2 I spent on it. $10 is just insane for this game. I would recommend this to anyone who likes art for its own sake, because that's really all I can consider this game to be. Just make sure you get it on sale.

*NOTE* This review was written after release of the Garruk campaign, which also marked the release of updates to the core game. This review takes into account these changes. I can understand why this game was hated, which is why I didn't purchase it until now. No longer are the dlc's necessary to unlocking all the cards, which was the game's biggest flaw (and quite frankly insulting). Upon seeing the expansion (and with it, updates), I became interested in seeing the changes. After beating the campaign, I had a lot of fun unlocking boosters for each of the collections and building decks with them. The difficulty was mostly a breeze on Mage level, which I chose because of many people's opinions that he game was hard. I can't see this game as very hard at all, but then again I have been playing for ~5 years pretty consistently. There were a couple of opponents I had trouble with, most notably Ajani and SLivers. The sliver deck was easily the hardest in the campaign, but after building a new deck I was able to beat it on the second try. Just fyi, I chose the B/G graveyard based deck and had a lot of fun with it. I had three spider spawnings by the end of the first chapter, which ended up being the mvp in many of my games. I never had any troubles with the game "cheating" me like many people have complained about. I also don't see why people are complaining about how slow it is to unlock cards. It is actually really fast. In ~17 hours I have completed four collections with 90% in the last campaign collection. That is a huge card pool to create decks, and I've still got Alara and the Booster packs to collect. Considering it takes hundreds of hours in the previous games to unlock all the cards, I'd say this is pretty fast. Wouldn't you agree? Some people just don't think. This game does have several negative traits to it, however. The UI is problematic at best, with bugs, slowdown, and low responsiveness too often. I can tell it was designed specifically for iPad, which is a bad thing considering it is on PC. I also hate how many of the cards in opponent's decks (or Garruk's deck in the expansion) are not available for deck construction. I can understand why they didn't (multiplayer balance), but that doesn't excuse this. They're programmed into the game, so they should be usable. It's also a shame they removed THG and alternate formats. All in all, I'm having a lot of fun with this game. I love building and testing out decks, and this game has a decent-nice card selection. The flaws are ever apparent though, and 2013 + 2014 versions are still better. If you like deck building and a challenge, I can recommend this game as long as you have played the previous two versions first.

Apparently people on this website don't know what quality is. They also don't know they shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them. In what world does this game deserve a 6.0 rating? I can understand an 8, or the critic score of 7.6. That's totally justifiable. However, a 6 is too low, not to mention the 3 and lower scores. The only two negative written reviews on here are either wrong or don't give valid reasons. Makes no sense. Anyway, this game is just as good as BL2, although in different ways. I'll just list the pros and cons instead of a traditional review. Pros: -The playable characters are actually part of the story this time. No longer do they remain silent throughout the entire game. They have genuine personalities, shown through cutscenes, banter, comments and by actually responding to NPCs. It adds a whole new depth to the story. -Interesting story. Seeing Jack's transformation from the anti-hero to insane villain was great. -Better gameplay. Tons of improvements have been made to the Borderlands formula. Front and foremost is the low gravity and oz kits, which adds a whole new dimension to combat. Other improvements include useful vending machines, the grinder, cryo and laser guns, fun boss fights (especially the last one), and fantastic characters and skill-trees. Nisha has been my favorite Vault Hunter from all three games. -Music. Very well done, possibly the best in the series (besides Dragon Keep, of course). -Hovering vehicles! -Well designed and fun environments. Cons: -New characters are mostly uninteresting or forgettable. That being said, most important characters are returning from older games. -Turning quests in is still a thing. Just give us the rewards when we complete the task. No wasting time running mindlessly around a huge map. -Second Wind system still exists. No one has ever liked it. We need a new solution for self-reviving. -That damn jet boss fight near the end is horribly designed and very frustrating. -Pay-wall for Shift features. This is extremely stupid. Despite the few flaws, this game is essentially a full game sized expansion. Which, contrary to beliefs of trolls on the internet, is still high quality and worth full price. There's so much new content here that I'll be playing this one for 300+ hours, just like I did with BL2.

Instead of a traditional review, I will be directly addressing common praises and complaints people have made with this game. First I'll start with what the game does right. The best parts make up most of the game, and that's why my score is so high. My favorite aspect was the gameplay. Gunplay, pacing, and a well designed HUD and learning curve all add up to be one of the most fun games I've played in a long time. The difficulty is higher than your average "dude bro" shooter, but its is fairly well balanced and (mostly) not cheap. There were a couple of boss fights that seemed very unfair to me, with one in particular resulting in ~15 deaths because of horrible level design. *Spoiler* That boss being the second encounter with Laura. Another thing that deserves a lot of praise is the environments. The first 10 chapters of the game in particular is phenomenal. Creepy lakeside towns, a mysterious mansion, and a trap-riddled tomb are just a few of the many horrifying places you'll visit. The great soundtrack and audio design put these environments over the top and make you genuinely feel nervous, and sometimes tense or afraid. Other positive things worth mentioning is the overall level design, awesome enemy design, immersive lighting, nods to past classic horror games, long replay values, and genuinely cool story (although it is admittedly shallow, more on that later). On the downside, this game has several problems keeping it from being perfect, most notably the technical issues. There is painfully obvious texture popping, sometimes weird animations, frame stutters, inconsistent graphical quality, and the biggest culprit, the camera. The camera is the worst camera i've seen in years. It constantly shows Sebastian's back in a way that intrudes on your own view. Entering rooms will make you nervous because you can't see what's in there due to obstructed views. In confined spaces the camera will also collide with the environment, moving forward and back to adjust itself so as not to move behind walls or other meshes. It can be a struggle to get a good angle as you explore environments such as hallways, caves, houses, or other such enclosed areas. However I will note that shooting is a not affected here since it basically zooms in close enough to not bump into the environment. Another problem is the shallow-ish story. The majority of the story is Sebastian's journey through the crazy world of The Evil Within, which is fine for what it is. If I had to compare this game's general storytelling to another game, it would be the first Gears of War. While both games have a great back story, they aren't necessarily told in game well or even at all. Sebastian's journal entries would have made for some great cut scenes or a great way to relate his troubles in throughout the game to his past. After reading them I at least felt some sort of attachment to him. In the end though, the game's gameplay and environments are enough to make it a great game. The final chapter left me with some answers, but far more questions. Hopefully the dlc remedies this. Overall this was a very fun but slightly flawed horror experience. I highly recommend it to any fans of survival horror or Resident Evil 4 (which it is obviously based on). It deserves closer to an 8.5, but I chose nine since the current rating is far too low.

FF: Tactics is not a game for the faint of heart. The difficulty is ruthless, whether it be Dark Knights hitting like a truck and healing that same amount, chocobos casting meteor to one-shot your weaker units, or setting up a seemingly impossible battle...However, this is what makes the game so rewarding. Grinding is useful, but nothing can get you to the end of the game except a spot on strategy. That is what this genre should be about, and FF: T nails it. This added to a wonderful skill learning system, jobs galore, and a satisfying progression makes this game simply one of the best strategy games out there, if not the best. While it may not be my absolute favorite, I can easily understand why many people still cite this as the best of the best. This game is not without its faults though. The story undoubtedly has a lot of depth and quality, but it has never interested me. Maybe the writing is not to my liking, or simply that I cannot wait to get back into the battle. I won't subtract points for this however, as the majority of people do thoroughly enjoy it. However I have never been able to finish the game due to poor pacing in the middle, something that can't be forgiven. I should be enticed to finish the game, not have it feel like a chore. There are other problems that I can't forgive. The game has several technical problems. For one, major slowdown plagues many of the actions, mostly spells. The camera is also horrid, as there are not a lot of options for it and many times you won't be able to see all the units no matter which angle you point it. Another weird problem that has arisen more times than it should have is the randomness of abilities sometimes seems skewed in the enemies favor. This will happen occasionally, and it seems like the game won't let me succeed in my actions while the opponents hit or crit every time. I've not lost to this phenomena, and it doesn't happen often, but it can get annoying when it happens. On top of this, the difficulty might not be for everyone. Some especially might not like the perma-death to units that don't get revived in time. I enjoy it, though. It is a nice change from the easiness of modern gaming. Overall this is a very high quality game and is worth playing for EVERY strategy fan. 9/10

I played back two years ago when this game was first released. I hate sitting at my computer using mouse and keyboard to game, and this game wouldn't let me use a controller at all. So, I got bored and moved on shortly after beating Diablo. Now I can play with gamepad on my couch or remote play in bed, and still have the same visual quality of the PC version. I really think this game was meant for consoles. The combat and loot is addicting enough to warrant hundreds of hours of play, and I probably will play for hundreds of hours. To me this is the best action RPG ever made. There are only a few cons here, such as the weird way saving is handled in adventure mode. It resets every time you quit, which can be frustrating when you have to stop suddenly. The story is also less than satisfying. It can be interesting at times, but honestly adventure mode is the best way to play this game. Other than that, the game is perfect. The looting, fighting, crafting, skills/runes, UI, and environments are all top-notch. And it only took ~10 years.

This game actually made me three other people with me scream in terror at the same moment. Amnesia is no longer king of the horror genre. My only complaint is the unnecessarily convoluted puzzle at the end. It completely ruined the immersion the rest of the game put me into. This was my first experience with this game. I went in with no prior knowledge other than what the back of the box already said, and that the "zombies" were fungal instead of a virus. The gameplay is very tight, responsive, and tactical. It requires thought and skill to advance through combat scenarios. That being said, there is nothing new or special about it. The puzzles are also fairly repetitive, almost always requiring you to find a floating object or a ladder. Overall, the gameplay is very good and well polished, but nothing special. The real lure of this game is the story and the characters. I grew very attached to Joel and Ellie, as should anyone who plays this. The ending was a little weak, but interesting regardless. At least it makes me want to play the sequel. I would recommend any gamer who has access to a PS3 or 4 to play this. Just keep your expectations in check. The game was over-hyped in my opinion, although easily one of the best of last generation.

The Walking Dead from Telltale Games is a phenomenal example of the uniqueness of video games. No other form of media can do what this game does. It is a player driven story, often drawing real emotion from the player and the choices they make. I can count on one hand the number of times I was seriously emotionally stirred by a game. This game puts all the others to shame. The writing is that good. Of the few negatives I found in this game, the main one was how little some things matter in the end. I would have liked many things to end up differently in this game, but more often than not I found out it was impossible to change the outcomes to my liking. I also don't appreciate the "episode" style of the game. I would much prefer just one continuous adventure. Wasting time in between episodes and spoiling plot points is very lame. This isn't a TV show, it's a video game. Regardless, this is an experience any story-loving gamer should check out.

ET from the Atari deserves a 1 or a 2. Not this port **** game. My score is a 10 to balance out the undeserved low scores. This game deserves a solid 7 or 8. There are framerate problems, most notable in sanctuary. Luckily you will never need the frame speed high in a safe zone such as Sanctuary. The menus could be a little more responsive. Many people seem to forget that these problems also exist on consoles, although to a lesser degree. Other than that, I have no complaints. The controls were weird at first, but I got used to them after an hour or two, and now I'm finding it very easy to headshot and melee to my heart's content. I didn't even switch from the default scheme, either. The visuals look stunning. It is hard to even notice any downgrades, besides the initial texture loading (but that was prominent on the other versions as well). Most importantly, ALL the content of the other versions is here, plus some dlc for free. This is the worst version of the game. That being said, it is also portable with touch screen and gyroscope features. If you still haven't tired of the game, or own a vita and not a console or PC, this is a great purchase. I am always a big fan of games that have a great story and a deep atmosphere. The art style is beautiful and a breath of fresh air compared to most other games today (or ever). Exploration is a blast, and combat is fun, although simple. The story not original at all. It is has similarities with various mythologies and seems to be inspired by old Disney movies. It was presented very well, and was fun to see unfold regardless of its generic origins. For $15 the entire tale and sidequests took over 10 hours, and the option for a new game+ or a hard difficulty gives replayability. Really my only complaints with this game is the combat, which is obviously inspired by Grandia and Final Fantasy. I love both those series and Grandia's combat in particular has always been fantastic. However, in this game it doesn't feel nearly as deep as either of the classic RPG series. I think cancelling should have been linked to specific abilities instead of all of them (like Grandia). Also, Three characters at a time should have been the norm. Why did they choose two? It just seems silly. Three characters would have made for much more interactivity and strategy. Two just limits you to attacker and healer. For my final thought, I will just say that this is the only game i've played that has ever crashed on a console. Highly recommended.

I have put almost 300 hours into this game. It is really one of the most re-playable experiences I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The story is much better than the first, and the characters seem much more relatable and "real". On top of that, the game is hilarious. All the classes serve a specific role and are mostly pretty balanced and fun to play. However, there are a few minor annoyances that prevent the game from a perfect score. However, there have always been a few problems with this game that stem directly from the gameplay. First of all, about 15-20% of the weapons are completely useless. Not even considering rarity. All of the shotguns **** except for legendaries and one type that improves accuracy as you shoot (like Moxxi's Heartbreaker). 99% of the needle guns are useless. The sledge ball guns are awful. Meanwhile, find a plasma caster of the same level and rarity, and you can literally **** everything with little to no effort. The weapons are horribly unbalanced sometimes. The Ultimate Vault Hunter mode is also annoying to play. It isn't hard as much as it feels cheap. You can get downed, barely get a revival off of a nearby enemy, but only to get taken down to 5% of your health immediately and go down again. It is very frustrating and really only feels cheap instead of challenging. I have always felt that the second-wind system could be improved much more than it is. (Also, waiting a full half minute to respawn compared to the original is annoying) The baddass rank system **** as well. It basically maxes out at +10% to all your stats, which requires at least a couple hundred hours of playing. 10% to all your stats isn't really anything. Turning it off is honestly negligible. The old weapon proficiency system was much better and rewarding. The game has a low framerate too, in places such as Murderlin's temple I would go below twenties. That is shameful on a 360. And not being able to redeem gold keys without xbox live gold? That's **** stupid. Regardless, the game is awesome and everyone who likes shooters and RPG's should play this one.

For those who haven't played the original FFX, it is generally considered a defining RPG of its generation and one of the greatest games ever developed. Personally, it is my favorite in the series (although I haven't played 6, soo...). The original brought with it some of the best music in the gaming industry, as well as one of the first fully-featured voiced games. It was also the first Final Fantasy to make the transition to full 3-D. Combined with a wonderful story, great and addicting character progression, and a refreshing take on the turn-based combat, this game still has a lot to give to today's RPG gamers. FFX-2 is also a very respectable sequel, as long as you can tolerate the goofy girlishness of the three protagonists. The visual upgrades to the game are nothing short of beautiful, and are made even more vibrant by the Vita's OLED screen. This is easily the best HD version **** I have ever seen. Some PS3 gamers have mentioned the long loading screens, but on Vita I haven't seen one that lasted more than a couple seconds. We also have some touch screen features, like healing outside of the menu or switching summon scene length during combat (which is super awesome). Its nice to have some new content as well, along with the content never before released in the US, such as the expert sphere grid, the "Eternal Calm", and the Final Mission. The updated soundtrack, while jarring at first, has really grown on me. However, the game still has some problems. First is the inability to skip cut scenes. How could this have been overlooked? Also, the lip-sync along with some other animations are just awful and not acceptable by today's standards at all. The movement has also been left the same, so the basic 8-direction style is still prominent. Sudden view port changes of the camera are still here as well, and are not easy to deal with. I have also noticed that the game drains my battery quicker than Persona 4 or Walking Dead (my other two Vita games). This probably wasn't avoidable, however, due to the PS3 quality visuals the game renders. Regardless, these complaints are not nearly enough to hinder such an amazing experience. The thing is beautiful. 9/10

This game has more wit and charm than substance, and I've noticed how it and others like it often get overrated by critics. That being said, it is a very fun and funny game. I really enjoyed seeing all the content that it had to offer, even if I had to look up how to do a lot of it. I won't go into its plot or even the game mechanics, since that might be a slight spoiler. I will say that if you like Portal or similar type games (and have an open mind about what games should be), you will like this. I don't mean that Portal didn't have substance, because it did. I just want to start off by saying that I really wanted to give this game a 10/10. Persona 4 Golden (or the original) is a wondrous magical amazing game that every RPG enthusiast should play. There are many perfect aspects about the game, like the endlessly interesting story, the fun combat, the pokemon-like creature collection, the incredible social link system, the gorgeous menus, and the (mostly) beautiful music. I thoroughly enjoyed the themes of searching for truth, and many times I believed the game to be over when a surprising twist to the plot kept me playing for 80+ hours. However, due to a few minor shortcomings and one huge flaw, I could not give this game the score it deserves. The major problem with this game was the dungeon crawling. The randomly generated, multi-leveled dungeons just aren't fun. Each one has the same design, which involves navigating hallways to find chests and the stairwell to the next level. Unfortunately, after the first dungeon, it just became very repetitive and generic. It felt like a chore more than a pleasure. During the long sessions of the real world, I would actually dread having to go back to the grind. This outdated gameplay should have been redesigned during the initial stages of development. Other problems with the game range anywhere from many of the vocal-heavy soundtrack music (although this is mostly preference), to the overly-difficult to manage ability system. The latter makes Persona creation less than ideal for creating Personas with preferred abilities. Some things really aren't very clear either, such as the best ways to utilize the social links, and how to completely advance the story. A little more help would have been nice. Maybe I wouldn't have wasted several dozen days doing useless tasks. Also, I still have no idea how to catch bugs or fish. Regardless, the game is phenomenal and is currently the best game on Vita by far. 9/10

I never knew PS2 games used normal and light maps, level streaming, complex particles, realistic water, etc. all at 1080 resolution. BUT I GUESS YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY. Anyway, the graphics are decent by today's standards, but nothing special. The environments are well built, and the sound is great. The gameplay is fun, but not as tight as RE6 (which was a worse game, ironically). What really kills this game is the enemies and story. The enemies are not scary and mostly just boring. The story is another convoluted, timeline-shifting, multi-character playable mess. Capcom really needs to break this little phase they are in, because this and RE6 could have had a much more concise and meaningful story. Give me a continuous adventure full of exploration and horror like the originals or RE4. Please Capcom. Overall though, the story was at least interesting. The exploration of the ship and the combat is what kept me playing. Raid mode is also very fun. It adds an RPG-esque style to the campaign maps, which is actually pretty addicting.

To the **** interesting review. Its about as much **** as a movie is. Its linear, with virtually no gameplay. So, all it really has going for it is the story and the music (both of which are excellent). It really is a good piece of media. However, i'm not so willing to forgive the game's shortcomings as others. I'm not comfortable calling it a game. Games have gameplay, and are more than just interactive. Gameplay is integral to the experience, whereas this 'gameplay' just feels tacked on. Dialogue from certain characters feels questionable at best. Neil was not funny in the slightest. He completely ruined the atmosphere and made me very aware that I was playing a game. He seemed less of a scientist and more of a teenage anime pedophile. I understand the benefits of comic relief but this hurt the game without helping at all. Also, while the pixel graphics were good and implemented well, I don't really understand why that style was chosen for this game. It has nothing to do with the story or gameplay. I would have expected some type of dreamy style, or even just normal hand drawn sprites. Again, I like the graphics, they just don't feel right for this game. Regardless, the story was moving, and the music is very fitting and well done. I foresee listening to the soundtrack for years to come. I would recommend this game to the refined, open minded gamer. Anyone who wants good gameplay needs to skip this one.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The king of all survival horror. There's really not much more to rant about, so here's a pro/con list. PROS -Fantastic Atmosphere/Story -Great Pacing/Game-Play/Puzzles -Great UI/Screen effects -Fantastic Environments (with a good variety) -Godly sound design, maybe the best I've ever seen in a game -Several of the most memorable sequences in gaming history -Disturbing, chilling, frightening, and downright scary CONS -Very few enemy designs, which means encounters get stale toward the end -Light engine is questionable; there is no global illumination (or a faked alternative) when lighting candles or torches, which typically produces a cone of light with no interaction with the environment. I say this because lighting a torch should make a whole room visible. Instead, it just lights a section of it while leaving the rest totally pitch black -Fairly intensive compared to the average PC game, probably because of the physics engine
