Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 is a movie for everyone. But if you're feeling down, if the world seems overwhelmingly bleak, or if you just need a reminder that your heart can still be touched, then forget the chores and see it.

Five is arguably the first new “Toy Story” film to be both watched and understood by the kids of the 1995 original’s millennial audience. That shared experience is very moving all by itself.

Toy Story 5 is also considerably more nuanced in its treatment of device culture than the toys vs. tech set-up might initially suggest.

If Toy Story 5 doesn’t quite represent peak Pixar, it does find the studio willing to tinker with its established formula in little ways that make a big difference.

It does explore tech, kids and friendship in a thoughtful way that feels fresh and relatable for youngsters and parents alike, and also gives Conan O'Brien the insecure toy he was born to play.

It’s fine, pretty and amusing, but if no one’s heart seems in it, perhaps it’s time to make way for other toys.

In a year where Disney gave us the utterly darling, and original, Hoppers, Toy Story 5 feels like a reheated lunch.

Toy Story never disappoints! It was much better than the previous one and brought back that beautiful feeling of the original trilogy that I grew up with . The art style was absolutely stunning and a huge improvement over the previous installments, making it the best-looking entry in the series . The movie has a really heartwarming message, and Jessie’s story as the lead character is interesting and engaging.Overall, it was entertaining, enjoyable, and a really fun experience.

I think I've officially outgrown this franchise. But I guess that kind of makes sense considering I was about 15 when the first one released. This one is a bit of a mess. There are so many characters and so many things happening on screen I thought I was watching a George Lucas remaster. The story is extremely on-the-nose. I mean, I get it, tablets and phones are a plague on our youth's, I agree with that. But this puts it so front-and-center that it becomes nauseating. Top that with the very formulaic feel almost all Pixar movies seem to use these days where there is this build-up to a happy climax and instead it ends in a misunderstanding making everything fall apart. And then cue the last part where the misunderstanding is cleared up and everything works out after all. That can work, and often does. But here it's so blatantly set up it becomes annoying. And that renders the "action" part of the movie almost impossible to watch due to it's grandeur and completely lack of connection to any sort of realism for how the toys act or function. It's dumb. And boring. But overall I still do appreciate what the movie is trying to say, so I guess we'll end on a slightly above average score.

The gang reunites to address the common enemy, kids leaving their toys for electronic devices. There are a few new characters, but none of them especially memorable. As a matter of fact, even the ones we’ve grown to love lack much of the comic punch that launched the series. It’s still full of lively energy with a ramp up on the emotional side. As such, it’s OK entertainment, but lacks the rousing gags, physical and verbal, that sets this franchise apart. NOTE: After all the credits is a cute little “rap.”

The charm is comploetely gone. No high stakes, no high emotional moments, no good comedy. It's all... for the "modern audiences"
