007 First Light is IO Interactive at the top of its game. They needed James Bond to push them into a full-blown narrative action game. Likewise, Bond needed IO Interactive to make a triumphant return to the medium. First Light is one of the year's best action games. The wait for a sequel will be a long one.

While playing, you feel like you’re right in the middle of a Bond movie that races by at breakneck speed. One moment you’re trying to sneak through an office unnoticed, and five minutes later you’re in a thrilling car chase through London or shooting everything that moves to pieces. 007 First Light is a game that takes on a lot, but succeeds in almost every aspect. It never gets boring, though we would have liked the pace to be a bit faster in the first few hours. But once your first mission really gets going, it’s non-stop fun all the way to the finish.

007 First Light represents IOI at its peak. While there are still some clear areas for improvement, I’m happy to report that First Light takes all of the slick charm and espionage goodness we love about the Bond movies, and successfully adapts them for the video game format.

Could have been a bit longer but Its perfect overall. Loved the combat, it felt like some kind of Hitman+Uncharted mixup.

Very poor graphics (on PS5), boring gameplay, trivial story. A couple of decent characters, good melee combat.

James Bond First Light plays it very safe gameplay wise. It feels like a hybrid between Uncharted and the Hitman series. The stealth and parkor mechanics lack depth. The story is very Bond, leaning heavily on stereotypical plot devices from the films. The gadgets and guns lack variety. That said the way the environment reacts to your character during fighting sequences allowing you to improvise multiple ways to kill bad guys is a real step forward, I hope this is used in future story games. I like the spying, hacking, eves dropping to get the necessary intel to progress the game. But beyond that the puzzle solving is pretty simple. It would be cool if future titles like this were more open allowing Bond to infiltrate places with different methods either by stealth, spy craft or more varied parkor elements such as grappling hooks and zip lines etc. It was quite difficult to feel much sympathy for any of the characters unlike titles like The Last Of Us. A bit more human emotion rather than detached soundbites would make the game feel more grounded. They did it with the Daniel Craig films but missed the mark slightly here. The vehicle elements were really enjoyable although more car chases with higher stakes would have been good. In conclusion, the game has some good elements that I enjoyed but there was just a little bit missing to me it a true classic that I would like to come back to once I finished the story. But this is has great potential for future sequels.

007: First Light is not only the best Bond game ever made, it’s also the best Bond story since “Casino Royale” in 2006.

007 First Light has everything it takes to become a brilliant franchise: presence, gameplay, its own distinct style, and above all, a well-crafted narrative that elevates the James Bond iconography.

IO Interactive have delivered their vodka Martini shaken, though it causes plenty of stirs along the way. It's a rip-roaring, globe-trotting adventure that delivers thrills galore, with a shockingly good emotional core to deliver on the premise of 007's origin story. One of 2026's best games has arrived, and what a privilege it is to have James Bond back in full, unapologetic confidence.

007 First Light has that distinct feel of a seventh-generation console action game thanks to features it borrows from other games of that era—and even some more recent ones—to create an immersive, fun, and thrilling experience that had been somewhat missing from video games.

007 First Light is a perfect blend of the espionage aplomb of the Hitman series and the cinematic action of Uncharted. It pleasantly alternates between the two, catapulting the player into a myriad of situations that are always stimulating and, above all, excellently written, so well-crafted they seem to have been plucked from a good 007 movie. The new James Bond has lost none of his charm: his irresistible knowing smile, his seductive gaze, his approach that can be at times frivolous, trendy, and style-icon-like, at times profound and intelligent, almost like a philosopher in the field. With him, the cast of characters lays a solid foundation for what could be another successful franchise for IO Interactive. There are some elements that are out of place—most notably the enemy AI that's just not convincing—but when Bond enters the fray and the adrenaline rush rises, 007 First Light manages to make up for it with spectacular storytelling and an irresistible pace. A fun, incisive, and very contemporary video game. To quote a maxim from Agent 007, this series "has all the time in the world" to become perfect.

007 First Light features a sophisticated and comprehensive infiltration system, as well as solid hand-to-hand combat mechanics. The lackluster cover system does not detract from what could mark a new era for 007 in the world of video games.

First Light largely waters down all of the complexity that IOI Interactive has come to be known for through Hitman, and with cinematic action redolent of Uncharted.

The game is "pretty good." My score is entirely for gameplay, but the visuals, voice acting, story, and so on, are all good to great. Bond's VA especially. But the gameplay... 1. Definitely nails the spy/espionage feel with the gadget mechanic. Gadgets involve resource management, which is great for combat but can be an unnecessary hinder to the spy puzzle solving when you've got to run around looking for charge/chemicals. A minor nuisance, but when the game gives you recharging resources it makes me think, "This would feel so much better as the norm..." 2. Combat is lacking though. In melee, parries are not satisfying or worth it because you only get the counter on the last hit, unless the enemy finishes with a grab in which case you cannot parry at all. Therefore.. just dodge all attacks/grabs and punish with your combos. The game gives you lots of options, but when dash attack, punch, gut punch, grab+slam either finishes or grants a takedown opportunity, it becomes repetitive. 3. Personally don't care much for the range of guns but the game not only gives you bullet time but also aim assist (even on "hard"). Not only that, you can just run around and enemies have very poor accuracy. I get that Bond films are full of action but some moments feel like a generic shooter game on easy. Ultimately I had a good experience (despite it being quite buggy, experiencing a soft lock, crashes, and minor bugs but I'm forgiving a new release from a smaller developer) and would be open to the next Bond game hoping they make improvements. It was rather short though, about 15 hours.

Gameplay not very different from Hitman, i have expected more driving. Story not special usual Bond stories. This is no NextGen Video game

Admittedly, I am a little biased because I had high hopes for this game—so I’ll adjust the rating accordingly. I finished the game feeling just meh. Combat was clunky at times. Storyline was predictable. Stealth was barebones, which was the biggest disappointment. Repeatedly burning trash as distraction throughout the playthrough? Come on. My favorite part of the game was sniping enemies’ heads. That’s it.
SummaryEarn the Number. 007 First Light is a thrilling espionage action-adventure game from IO Interactive. Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6's training programme, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.
