The idea of turning the Demeter chapter into a horror movie sounded brilliant: a ship voyage turned into a floating trap, with the shadow of Dracula lurking in every corner. Yet what seemed on paper like a suffocating, anxiety-filled experience ends up being a rather flat exercise. The atmosphere works at times, with a detailed recreation of the ship and that nineteenth-century feel that adds some charm, but the script never fully exploits the potential of its **** biggest issue is that the fear fades away too soon. The monster is revealed without much mystery, which drains tension and leaves scenes that, while bloody, rarely become truly unsettling. A greater sense of subtlety and a steady build of suspense could have trapped the viewer in the ship’s darkness alongside the **** the plus side, the cast does what it can, and André Øvredal’s direction delivers some striking images, especially when focusing on the oppressive atmosphere of the sea and the claustrophobia of confined spaces. Still, the characters are so thinly developed that it’s hard to care about their fate, which lessens the impact of the **** Last Voyage of the Demeter is a decent film—occasionally entertaining, with flashes of good old-fashioned horror. But it leaves the feeling that, with more ambition in its storytelling and better use of tension, it could have been something far more memorable within the genre.

Truly good horror films have become very rare these days. The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a good horror film, well-structured, never boring, and featuring a convincing ensemble cast. It stands out positively from mainstream horror, which too often uses overly contrived stories to shock the audience with bloodthirsty carnage. This film has atmosphere, is elaborately staged, and captivates with its mounting horror, to which people are helplessly exposed. Films of this kind have unfortunately become very rare.

not a bad movie, I'm not a fan of horror and this movie is easy to watch, it was interesting to see a new variation of the old Dracula without any nonsense and comedy

What a fun movie. I'm a huge fan of the Dracula story and this was an incredible film made off of four pages of the book. What a unique concept!

A decent cast and atmosphere are ruined by the overly long, uninteresting story that is painfully stretched out to 2-hours. This should have been told in a tight 90 minutes, at best.

Well-made and atmospheric, but offering little surprises. It's not a bad spooky rental. But it is a bit too long for its own good

With a decent cast and pretty good cinematography, this movie ended up being a huge dissapointment. The director and writers really let this one down. Even though the cast is quite small, most of the characters were basically extras with zero development. The hamfisted foreshadowing the director tried to employ was so obvious you knew exactly what was going to happen about 2 minutes before every event. The film jumped from one moment of action to the next so quickly that spatial continuity went out the window, which is impressive as the setting is so small it should have been easy for the audience to keep their bearings while moving throughout the ship. It felt to me that the director was so focused on delivering visually impressive shots (which they did) that the narrative was simply an after thought. If they would have taken the time to establish the setting, had a few moments of peace between major plot events, and actually tried to give the characters a small semblance of a survival instinct, this film would have been much better off.

Here's my take on this flick... Everything's ok - acting is ok, cinematography also looks good, I liked special effects also, scenes also good, dialoges not bad, but plot.. boy oh boy, few big holes in plot, few smaller.. the plot is simple and boring that's all..

This film has noteworthy costumes, sets and period details, however it's a relatively unexceptional horror film in which a ship's crew is slowly killed off without making good decisions or offering any resistance. An ultimately inconsequential entry in the Dracula mythos.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a movie directed by André Øvredal (Troll Hunters, 2010, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, 2016), that tells basally the prologue of 1897's Bram Stoker's "Dracula" (1847-1912) that tells about the Captain's Log of the Bulgarian ship named after the movie tile in 1867, before the events that happens in England.Bragi Schut Jr. that took almost 20 years to put the idea to a movie adapted the text to a full screenplay (Escape Room, Velvet Road) and there may reside the big flaw of the movie, because the rhythm is inconsistent and the plot even being interesting moves very slowly, with many flaws. It tries to emulate an ancient Alien the 8th passenger movie to this setting.Maybe the worst mistake was to put a protagonist Corey Hawkins in the role of the afro-english doctor Clemens that survives the trip and will start the hunt for Dracula, this already show in a pre-credits scene where the doctor is on a bar and see's the shadowy figure of Dracula, alrey telling the viewers that will de a sequence, on cinema or streaming.Nothing to say about the well know story - a massacre of the tripulation of the ship, that consists with the book, and the arrival at the destiny as a wreck with the coffin containing earth of Dracul's "bed" (I wonder if it sunk in the middle of the Atlantic what would happened - no earth, but no no sunlight so...anyway:). After some gruesome assassinations on the ship, is obvious that somebody would be suspicious of each other, but not in the scale they happen, The mouse and cat cat between Dracula (in his man-bat form) and crew is the main core of the movie. Göran Lundström made the wonderful prosthetic work that was used almost 100% oon the scenes with dracula only using CG to put the artist that interpreted it on the creature (that is very similar to the one at Midnight Mass at Netflix)Beside the prosthetics and some scenes, the movie is too slow, and the final is ridiculous. I would give it a score of 6,0 out of 10,0 / B- by the effort.

The fact that all this didn’t go down in some 200 year old dilapidated mansion in the middle of nowhere was quite a refreshing change of scenery!

+Great visual effects +Decent cinematography and production quality +Great cast and soundtrack -Terrible quick cut pacing destroys any tension -Modern dialogue and characters feel entirely out of place in the setting -Very predictable action sequences I loved the concept here but it felt wasted. For some reason the direction and editing was done with such a quick pacing there was never a moment of stillness for any tension to build. On top of this the dialogue was done in a modern style with characters that acted with modern sensibilities. It just didn't feel authentic. Its seems like the focus went more on the visual style which was very good if a little pointless without the tension required to sell it. In the end you saw the creature so much it fell almost into parody. It passed the time and is worth a view if you are a creature horror fan.

The Movie returns to the roots of vampire tales and masterfully presents the most terrifying aspects of the genre on the big screen. While there are some minor additions to the story, the core elements remain unchanged.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is yet another forgettable adaptation/"expansion" of Bram Stoker's work. The original material doesn't have much content as it's just a single chapter, but it's interesting. Here in the film, this word falls into limbo due to the common tricks that are used throughout the construction. The script is obvious, poorly written and poorly developed. The text does not delve into some of the points raised and instead prefers to include some ridiculous monologues. The third act is annoying and the resolutions found here border on the height of **** script also fails with the presentation and development of the characters. They have very little charisma, which leads us to give a damn whether they live or **** atmosphere of the film is good thanks to the photography. It is a dense environment with cloudy weather, thunder and the deafening noise of the sea. These aspects instigate our curiosity to know where Dracula is and where and how he will **** film's CGI is good, the apotheotic sea is very real and Dracula's appearance is good and reminiscent of his classic appearance in ****'s a forgettable film that when it is remembered it will only be for being another Bran Stoker adaptation that didn't work.

Good lord this is a superb horror film. Sure there are some points of the chapter this film is taken from that should have beentweaked just a touch to make things fit together better and thus avoid obvious "Why not just do X and problem solved", eg; changing the Schooner to a Galleon and increasing the cargo size, but otherwise this is a fantastic horror film orders of magnitude better than the American horror drivel vomited out with cliche stories and plotholes a dozen relying far too heavily on predictable jump scares and laughably over the top gore to try and do the "scaring". Do yourself a favour, watch this film and see that it is possible to make a good horror film.

Long and somewhat over play movie. Dracula for me is something that as been over used and this new entry into the genre is bland and to slow burning for my taste. Dracula looks like a gargoyle with a weird CGI effect that takes me out of the movie. The fact that they add a new character to the story of Dracula is something I have a problem with. Stop modernizing stories and right them well instead.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter has so many going for it: great production values and creature effect. A reasonably talented casts and many more. It is also based on a very interesting concept: this film is an Alien clone but set during 'the past'. However, like another film this year, 65, the director can't milk the tension from this premise and the result is a film that could not live up to its full potential.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER is not doing better at the box office because the movie is really good! The movie reminds me of the old British horror movies that I love to watch on MeTV around Halloween. Americans just do not appreciate good acting, have no imagination anymore, and only have an appetite for blood and guts. Go see this movie, and you will be scared and thrilled (about the good acting in the movie) and love eating popcorn while watching!

I wish i listened to the reviews instead of wasting my 1 hour watching this crap, all the crew is just plainly dumb including the captain, the dialogue sounds like a child wrote it, the characters are horrible, and the story sounds promising but Hollywood somehow made it an absolute boredom, the movie as a whole was way dawn out for no reason, and yes like some reviews pointed out this movie if full of woke agenda like the only smart person in the crew is... yes you guessed it is the woman. the only thing i will give praise for is the cinematic aspect and CGI anything else is just ridiculously stupid and boring Please do not watch the movie, I stopped halfway through this movie and I skipped all the way to the end. you better waste your precious time somewhere else. 2/10

Some of the worst editing and sound design I have ever seen. It had good ideas but it constantly bombards you with loud noises and camera cuts that take you out of the experience. It actually made me feel sick on how badly it was edited.

A movie about a crew on a ship being hunted by Dracula is such an awesome premise. I like that they went with a more monstrous design for Dracula which makes him feel like a force of nature. The mix of practical and CGI is done well. The production design of the ship is phenomenal with how claustrophobic it feels. The actors all are phenomenal as well with special mention to David Dastmalchian and Liam Cunningham. The kills are brutal and entertaining to watch. However, this movie does suffer from the horror trope of stupid characters making nonsensical choices. It also starts with a flash-forward that spoils the ending for no reason. The movie is also way too long and has a very slow pacing. Could easily cut 20 minutes of this film. It also has an ending that just feels "wrong" and not very fitting of the tone that was throughout this film. Overall, it's an unexpectedly entertaining monster movie.

Not a bad premise, but we all know how it ends. Corey Hawkins doesn't really work as a lead either. All in all, it's kinda boring and they show the vampire too soon. And it's a creature instead of the charming vampire we think of, who is more terrifying than the monster. Add to it Hawkins little DEI rant, and this doesn't work on any level. Still, it looks good and aside from Hawkins, has some good performances.

Dull and not very good, the cast is woke and wacky and the script is plain dumb. Also, it's just not very scary, could've been Alien on a 1800s tall ship but what we got was a boring vampire slog with all the progressive agenda boxes ticked - 2 stars

Demeter was enjoyable but maybe a bit long. The story is average and has been seen a lot. They modified some details on the vampire side of things. That said, the movie is nice visually. The creature is really good too. I was impress by the rain and water effects. The acting is average at times. The music is ok. If anything, the movie is a bit long and somewhat generic. I give it 70% because it was handle with a lot of care. But there are some lack of logic at the end regarding the plan and the ship. That made me turn my eyes and wanted more blood.

I thought this was perfectly average, the setting and mood are good if pretty drab. The kills and immolations are graphic and well placed but extremely repetitive. Overstays its welcome as there is not nearly enough meat on the b one to sustain 2 hours.

IF only this movie borrowed ideas from the first Alien movie, building up suspense, letting you care about the crew. You can have a slow burn movie if you do it correctly it could've been something great. There's another upcoming movie directed and written by Robert Eggers called Nosferatu, if there's any hope left for Hollywood to resurrect Dracula that movie could have the potential to do so. (Robert Eggers directed The Witch, Lighthouse, The Northman and they're all received well by audiences, one of the main reasons why I mention it here)

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a decent movie with the potential of being something much better. We know the character of Dracula, and though fun seeing him systematically feed on the ship's crew he was condensed down to being just a standard movie monster vs the character of Dracula we love.

A biased part of me may have seen things that other people may find irrelevant, but my genuine passion for these kinds of stories sometimes gets in the way of me being more objective but I'll say it like I feel it and that is that this movie definitely has its fair share of flaws. However, it's the gripping atmosphere and the formidable antagonist at the heart of the horror what allows The Last Voyage of the Demeter of being a better movie. This isn't about humanizing a bloodthirsty monster. No. It's a story of a fantasy-level apex predator on the hunt, going after its prey like a lion among sheep, locked up and placed at their mercy in the confinement of a ship in the middle of the ocean. In the words of Watchmen's Rorschach: "I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me.' The combination exudes a style that swings between melodrama and crudity reminiscent of classic films about beings such as Dracula. The terror is amplified by a great villain whose behavior evokes shades of the Xenomorph from Alien, and considering that the victims are locked in a ship like those in Ridley Scott's film were on the Nostromo, this vampire who looks like a cross between Man-Bat and Nosferatu maintains the film's most riveting elements, fostering palpable suspense and tension throughout. The script has its flaws, and I saw it coming from afar. The balance it seeks often falters, and much of what it does in several passages is more reactionary than coherent. Also, unfortunately, it doesn't give enough room for development to the lead characters, and the resolution it offers isn't satisfying either. I don't mean to say that everything should be tied up neatly, but let's just say that some of those points feel a little flimsy. As for the overall experience, I can say that The Last Voyage of the Demeter is the kind of film that can easily be recommended to casual moviegoers, devoted Dracula enthusiasts, avid monster aficionados, and dedicated horror fans alike. While it may not possess any extraordinary or stunning quality, it still managed to keep me engaged and free from any sense of disappointment. Therefore, from my point of view, it duly earned its credit with me.

A joke, let's make a horror movie about Dracula on a ship(not a bad idea), but have the most boring characters, trash writing, plot holes etc . It has a good atmosphere, you can feel the endless sea, but that's about it. Also, too long and for what? You could cut 30-40 minutes without issues.

Movie of the Week for 12 bucks can't really go wrong so it was value for money but there were few things which kind of bugged me considering I did indeed read Bram Stocker's Dracula. For me number one issue is they sort of started the story in the middle (Which Dracula's journey from Romania to England is) and they don't really do a good job to explain the origin basically just assumes everyone read the book and they know who Count Dracula is ? Why he is travelling to London ? What was he doing until he came to a brilliant idea to migrate to England. 2nd problem their Count Dracula looks more like a Leper then a Vampire honestly they couldn't even get the teeth right. 3rd problem The whole plot is based around the question you already knew before you even start watching the movie ,everyone knows Count Dracula does indeed reach London where he finds Mina etc... so why base the plot around this in the first place ? Thing I did like was Aisling Franciosi , I can't believe she plays a kid while she is actually 30 , they nailed this part also her Romanian accent is amazing considering she was Irish . The ending **** it suggests a sequel Black man vs Dracula in London which I admit is a take on the story we didn't have before but I think they should have kept Aisling Franciosi alive.

I'm not sure why this movie isn't doing better. It has a decent script, the ship is a fun experience (minus the threat if imminent death), and there are some good effects. It's not phenomenal, but it was a good time at the movies and well worth my time—probably because I'm a **** for mariner films. I hope it gets a second life in streaming.

It takes talent to make a premise this good boring. Dracula never turns into a bat, insects, a wolf, mist – he never takes over people’s minds or seduces them. No, he’s just a dumb beast like the screenwriters. That just leaves a talented cast to spin their wheels on a cheap set. Total waste of time.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a decent enough movie. The film has pretty good cinematography--with many of the shots looking downright beautiful--and there are also some genuinely entertaining tense and creepy scenes. The problems with the movie lie in a substantial plot hole that weakened the films engrossing atmosphere, as well as a pretty disappointing and drab ending. The film will entertain you, but don't expect a super unique addition to the horror genre.
