While a sequel to such a classic as Beetlejuice wasn't really needed, it was certainly welcome. The film is a pretty fun, weird, and goofy experience that fans of the original movie, and Burtons films in general, will enjoy. There are parts of the film that did feel were unnecessary, and the pacing does suffer from it, but it was still a solid and enjoyable experience.

Alien: Romulus is generally a pretty solid movie and is arguably the best Alien film in decades. The lighting, cinematography, and effects are all great. It's great to see real environments and physical special effects that are not dominated by CGI, for that the filmmakers get my thanks. However, I will say that there are definitely issues with this movie - some unnecessary sequences, as well as odd pacing - damage the overall experience. The last 20-30 minutes of this movie I don't believe were really necessary and pulled me out of the experience a bit. That being said, the film is worth a watch for the aforementioned positives, and is definitely an upgrade from Alien: Covenant.

The MCU has once again clawed its way out of a shallow grave with this one. Deadpool & Wolverine is a genuinely entertaining and fun Summer blockbuster that is surprisingly not a complete mess. The plot generally makes sense, the action and visuals are solid, and of course Reynolds and Jackman kill their roles - as they always do. I don't know if this movie will "save the MCU", but it is a good time.

Longlegs is a flawed but captivating horror thriller that is unapologetic about its uniquely weird plot. There are points in the film that I felt warranted a bit more context, and other moments that didn't feel were completely necessary, but the movie remained entertaining and intriguing throughout its runtime. Despite its flaws; the weird story, great performances, and excellent cinematography are sure to make Longlegs a modern horror classic.

Furiosa is an incredibly entertaining and well crafted film that serves as an awesome prequel to Fury Road. The movie is very well paced, is spectacularly well shot, and has that odd and insane writing and world building the Mad Max films are known for. I highly recommend watching this movie, it is absolutely worth your time. In a few years Furiosa will be considered a cult classic, it's a near certainty.

Civil War is a surreal and violent trip through a war torn America, and it will keep you anxious throughout its entire runtime. The film doesn't focus much on how the US came to have another civil war, but does authentically and passionately express just how devastating a war on this scale would be. This movie may not be for everyone, but if you're a fan of surrealist war films like Apocalypse Now or the series Generation Kill, you should give this movie a watch.

Dune: Part Two accomplishes everything it sets out to achieve with flying colors. You can tell that each and every aspect of this film was done with immense amounts of passion and labor. The cinematography, the score, the performances, and of course the worldbuilding and plot are all crafted with such precision and care that I am not surprised at all many are saying that the Dune films are my generations equivalent of the The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars movies. I will say that the pacing of the film could be a bit fast despite the lengthy runtime, but in no way is the pacing bad, it's just different - and as someone who has read the book this kind of pacing is in line with Frank Herbert's storytelling. There isn't much left to say besides that this is the film people wanted it to be, it is a cinematic event. I've said my piece, now go watch the movie.

I fully admit that I'm a bit of a Studio Ghibli novice. I have only seen two of Miyazaki's previous films, Ponyo and Spirited Away, and that was quite some time ago. All of that being said, I very much enjoyed this movie. The animation and art style are beautiful, the all-star cast English dub voice acting is great, and the film was thoroughly entertaining. There were some pretty glaring issues with the pacing of the story, with the movie not really holding your hand when it comes to the overall context of its plot at times, but this is common in Japanese Animation and I believe really just boils down to cultural differences when it comes to story telling. If you're a fan of Studio Ghibli and animated films then I'd highly recommend giving The Boy and the Heron a watch.

The Holdovers is the type of thoroughly enjoyable comedic drama that makes you feel warm and relaxed when watching it. A few minor problems with the film aside, the movie has all around solid performances from all the actors, and some very well done cinematography as well. I would absolutely recommend watching it if you like the 'slice of life' style this kind of films tends to have.

Wonka is a joyful and beautiful film that will have you smiling throughout much of its runtime. The heartfelt and comedic tone of the movie works incredibly well and will keep you either laughing or crying. Wonka also manages to stand on it's own two feet without being constantly in the shadow of its classic predecessor, and has an original story that has little to do with the '71 film, but definitely pays tribute to it. I would absolutely recommend watching this movie, it's worth it.

As someone who has mixed feelings on Ridley Scott as a filmmaker, the divisiveness over Napoleon isn't that much of a surprise to me. My feelings towards this film lean more towards the middle; I did not hate it, nor did I love it. The score, performances, and cinematography are all incredibly well done. But, the pacing of the film and it's attempt to condense over twenty two years of major historical events and wars into just over two and a half hours does not work in the movies favor. These pacing problems were so noticeable to me that it is likely both viewers who are knowledgeable of Napoleonic History, and viewers who aren't knowledgeable at all about Napoleonic History, will be confused or annoyed from the lack of context during certain parts of the film. That all being said, Napoleon is a fine movie and is enjoyable to watch, just don't expect it to be like Gladiator or the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven.

Five Nights at Freddy's is an entertaining and competent enough film up until the last 1/3 of it's runtime, which is around the time I started to become confused and desired some more context. I will also say that, while the performances in the film are average to decent, the set and creature design are very good and do a good job engrossing the viewer into the world of the film. I've never played the games, but I'm going to bet that the movie will entertain those that have (the audience in my theater were certainly entertained; they wouldn't shut up). FNAF isn't a great movie, but it's fun and unique enough to recommend to those interested.

The Creator has a lot of issues, primarily when it comes to its pacing, and some poorly explained plot threads. That being said, I still really liked this film. The cinematography and general direction are both solid, and the art and set design are beyond excellent. The fact that a wholly unique mid-size budget sci-fi film even got made in this day and age should be applauded. I hope more movie studios take risks like this, instead of making another sequel or superhero movie. I'd rather have a flawed--but creative and original--film, rather than a $250,000,000 budget comic book movie.

A Haunting in Venice is a creative, atmospheric, and well shot Mystery/Horror film. The pacing is a tad off, with the mystery and overall plot of the film perhaps unwinding a bit too fast in the movies latter half, but by no means does this ruin the overall experience. If you like good, old fashion 'Haunted House' movies, or the previous Hercule Poirot films, you'll probably enjoy this.

The Equalizer 3 is a solid film with some great action sequences and a good, but by no means spectacular, plot. However, the movies pacing is confusing--and at times--just flat out bad, with those iconic Equalizer action sequences being too low in number and too short to be as entertaining as they could be. It's a fine film, but not a great one.

Talk to Me is possibly the best horror movie I have seen in theaters since Ari Aster's Hereditary. The film is beautifully shot, has excellent performances, and delivers a genuinely authentic and horrifying story that will stick with you after the end credits begin to roll.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a decent enough movie. The film has pretty good cinematography--with many of the shots looking downright beautiful--and there are also some genuinely entertaining tense and creepy scenes. The problems with the movie lie in a substantial plot hole that weakened the films engrossing atmosphere, as well as a pretty disappointing and drab ending. The film will entertain you, but don't expect a super unique addition to the horror genre.

I'm just going to be blunt with this review. Oppenheimer is very, very good and is worth your time. The film is a touching, down to earth, and at times horrifying delve into the human psyche and our species unending pursuit of knowledge. I will say that, despite a three hour runtime, the pacing of the movie is constantly moving with little breathing room. I understand why the movie has such fast pacing, but it could be a bit overwhelming for some - especially when combined with the films unending and bombastic soundtrack. Really, other than the aforementioned pacing, and a singular scene at the beginning of the film that - without spoiling anything - I believe was a bit on the nose, Oppenheimer is an excellent film. If people come out of the theater thinking that this is Christopher Nolan's cinematic masterpiece, I wouldn't be surprised. I don't want to say much else because you should absolutely experience the movie yourself. Watch Oppenheimer.

Dead Reckoning Part One is yet another entertaining and thrilling dive into the action pact world of Mission: Impossible. The film is intense, fun, and has a genuinely interesting premise. There are some issues with pacing in the movie, with there being some scenes I wish were more thoroughly explained or given more breathing room. However, even with these problems, I cannot deny that the film was an incredibly enjoyable experience. If you like action movies, you should definitely watch Dead Reckoning Part One. I look forward to seeing what insanity Part Two brings.

I was not particularly looking forward to this film, even more so upon hearing about its mixed reception from both critics and audiences. After watching The Dial of Destiny I can definitively say that it is incredibly...average. The film has some entertaining and fun sequences, some entertaining and dumb sequences, and a lot of 'okay' run of the mill action. The pacing of the film isn't terrible (although I do understand the complaints criticizing the movies lengthy run time) and the performances and set pieces are actually pretty solid. This is not a bad ending to the Indiana Jones saga, but it is a somewhat unnecessary one. I would recommend watching the film later down the line on streaming, you'll probably get some entertainment out of it.

Across the Spider-Verse is an immensely entertaining sequel that is an absolute must see. Although I feel the 'Superhero' film genre is oversaturated and has been slowly declining in quality; I am happy to say that this movie has been excluded from the current downturn. Across the Spider-Verse's beautiful and fluent animation, great story, and spectacular acting are all examples of filmmaking in its purest and most creative form. The only problem's I have with the film are centered around some issues with its pacing, primarily how it ends on a massive cliffhanger, and that some of the audio was quite hard to hear, which could be a problem with my local theater's equipment and not the movie itself. You should absolutely watch Across the Spider-Verse, but ready up for a lengthy wait to get a solid conclusion to the story set up in the film.

James Gunn has once again delivered an energetic and emotional superhero film. To me, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is without a doubt the best MCU movie to release after Avengers: Endgame--and I really liked Shang-Chi. That being said, Vol.3 does have some issues with pacing that were somewhat noticeable, as well as some characters I wish were better developed throughout the films runtime. These issues may be noticeable, but the rest of the movie is so entertaining and well done that by the end I simply didn't really care. The film is a touching yet fun end to Gunn's trilogy, and I highly recommend seeing it.

I can definitely see Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves becoming a certified classic in the next few years; perhaps even on the same level as The Princess Bride or A Knight's Tale. The film is thoroughly entertaining; with intriguing characters, great action, and some well done comedy. There is very little that holds the movie back, and any minor flaws I could point out really didn't do anything to erode the overall wonderful experience. I highly recommend watching Honor Among Thieves; it's worth your time.

The fourth instalment of the John Wick saga is finally here and it lives up to the high standards set by its predecessors. Like the previous John Wick films, the action sequences and set pieces are incredible and seamlessly shot. Much like the action, the cinematography--and camerawork in general--is also very well done, and the utilization of lighting in the film is some of the best I've seen in a while. However, I do think one or two of these previously mentioned action sequences may go on for a bit too long. I also don't think the movie really needed its nearly three hour runtime, but that viewpoint is certainly subjective. I do recommend watching John Wick: Chapter 4 when you get the chance. Even though the film is quite lengthy when compared to others in its genre, it still sets the standard for what an action movie should be.

There is not much to say about this film other than that it is a violent, fun, and humorous movie that I absolutely recommend seeing. There are some pacing issues, mainly at the end of the film, but this didn't really ruin the experience for me. There are also two end credit scenes for those who are interested (I missed the latter one).

White Noise is a very beautiful looking film, but a very oddly written one. The dialogue throughout the movie is incredibly fast moving and off (almost certainly on purpose) and the overall pacing of the plot is done in a very strange way. When the movie was finished it felt like I had just watched two separate films back-to-back, that's how odd the pacing was. The film also deals with some very heavy philosophical and existential themes which will be off putting to many. I believe I know what the overall point the film is trying to make was, but getting to this revelation may not be worth the time or just be annoying to many movie watchers.

For a sequel to a Shrek spinoff movie, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is pretty damn good. The aesthetics and overall style exhibited in this film makes it the best looking animated movie I have seen in years. Complimenting the beautiful animation is an interesting plot, well written and acted characters, and really fluent and fun action sequences that are incredibly enjoyable to watch. Could this film signal a second coming Golden Age for DreamWorks? I sure hope so.

I liked the first Knives Out film but didn't think it was deserving of so much praise; I feel the same way about Glass Onion, but to a lesser extent. The dialogue is funny and well written, the film is shot well and is aesthetically interesting, the acting is great, and there are some legitimately intelligent plot twists. **** pacing can be really off at times--especially during the beginning of the film--and there were some dumb plot points that I didn't much care for. I can see what the director, Rian Johnson, wanted to do with some of these odd plot devices, I just don't think it fully worked out. Even with these flaws, I did find this film pretty entertaining. I'd recommend watching Glass Onion if ya like mysteries or the first Knives Out movie.

The Way of Water is hands down one of the greatest visual spectacles to ever grace film. I can safely say that CGI has never looked this good in a movie before, especially when you consider the meandering quality of CGI in recent Disney produced films. This movie, without a doubt, does have incredible visuals; however…the rest of this long awaited Sci-Fi epic is fairly inconsistent. The film is over three hours long yet it still had some pretty noticeable pacing issues, with certain plot points needing more context and time to grow and others not making much sense at all. The Way of Water also has a pretty inconsistent plot that a lot of the time makes the film feel like its two entirely different movies, with neither being able fully tell a great story. I would recommend seeing The Way of Water despite my criticisms; if only for the revolutionary visuals, pretty decent performances, and a few really incredible scenes that both thematically and cinematically blew me away. I do look forward to future entries in this franchise and hope that more context and detail is added to the overall multi-film long story that Director James Cameron wants to tell. It will be interesting to see where these movies will go in the future, that's for sure.

Violent Night is not an example of masterclass filmmaking, but it is a pretty fun movie to watch for the holiday season. This film is violent, goofy, cheezy, stupid, and at times surprisingly endearing. The movie is nothing spectacular, but it's a fun time if you're in a Christmassy mood and want to see some good old fashion dumb violence.

If you were to go back in time to a month ago and tell me that Smile was actually a pretty decent movie, I would have either thought you were severely mentally ill or a figment of my imagination. That being said, it's true - Smile is a pretty decent horror movie. It is not a perfect film, but it's fun and has some oddly interesting and disturbing sequences that I found entertaining. I would actually recommend watching Smile if you're into horror films or want to see something spooky this October, you'll probably like it.

Another "X" film by director Ti West is about the last thing I expected to come out in theaters, especially since the original was released earlier this year. Pearl serves as a semi-prequel to X but you do not really need to see the original film to watch this one. I found Pearl to be a quality horror movie that didn't quite live up to the original. Despite the films short runtime I often felt that some parts of the movie just seemed to drag on for far to long. There were also some weird plot points or details that may feel a bit off putting, but anyone who liked the previous movie will probably view these as quirky or charming - as I do. Pearl is a completely unnecessary prequel, but it is certainly not bad. If you're a fan of the original film or like slasher movies I do recommend seeing this flawed but enjoyable oddity of a prequel.

The Invitation is a below average movie with substantial pacing and tonal issues that drag down any chance the film has of being a decent horror movie. There is not much else to say besides that. Perhaps watch the film in the future if it becomes free on streaming or cable. It is not the worst movie ever, but it is certainly not good.

I legitimately really liked this film. From the very beginning this movie oozes with style. The action is fantastic, the characters are well written and interesting, and the camerawork is done very well. The pacing as well as some plot points are certainly different from other films, but this doesn't really damage the movie much overall. You could say that Bullet Train is coherent in being incoherent, and it works. This is a fun and stylish film and I definitely recommend it.

I had some decent expectations for this film and was curious to see how it would turn out. Fortunately, the movie ended up being pretty good. The unique setting and good camerawork helps make PREY something worth a watch, the action and choreography are are also very good. There are some pacing issues in the latter half of the movie that were pretty noticeable to me, but that's the only semi-large problem I saw with the film. The last thing I want to say is this; this movie should have been released in theaters. PREY would've been a great theatric experience. I don't know why it wasn't released in theaters, but it's a shame.

NOPE is a good film. The character dialogue is realistic and well acted, the cinematography is excellent, and the overall plot is pretty decent. However, if you're wondering why I'm calling the plot "pretty decent" and not "great" - it's because of one singular plot thread that is completely pointless and not well explained but is interwoven with most of the films storyline. Saying what the plot thread is will spoil major parts of the movie, but just know it's pointless. Other than that, NOPE is a unique and enjoyable movie that is worth a watch.

Another MCU blockbuster has landed in theaters... and it's fine. Not great, not terrible, just fine. Love and Thunder has interesting visuals and cool action sequences, but is also poorly paced and has some noticeably out of place comedy and cheesiness. Adding another twenty to thirty minutes to the films runtime could've helped add more context to the story and ease the previously mentioned pacing problem, but instead we have a movie that is too short to tell a fully realized Marvel storyline. Fans of the MCU will get some good entertainment value out of Thor: Love and Thunder, but they shouldn't expect anything really special.

Was interested in seeing this film for the intriguing premise that was marketed. After watching The Black Phone, I can safely say my interest was justified. However, the film suffers from some oddities - plot holes, unnecessary story points, etc. But, even with these flaws it is still an enjoyable horror movie that tries something new and I appreciate that.

As someone who hasn't even seen the first TOP GUN movie, only knowing a few story details, I can honestly say that TOP GUN: MAVERICK is a very enjoyable and very well done film. The movie is worth watching, even if you haven't seen the first film. This movie may not do anything "new", but it does a lot right. I definitely recommend checking this blockbuster out.

Is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent the best film to ever grace the art of cinema? No - it isn't. Is it an overall really enjoyable movie that is worth watching? Yes - it absolutely is. The film is fun, self-aware, and has pretty good performances. This is the type of movie that makes one feel comfy while watching it. It's a good time.

I don't have much to say about The Northman except for this - you owe it to yourself to watch it. In my opinion, The Northman is not only the best Viking movie ever made, but could also very well be one of the best Historical Epics ever brought to film. This historically authentic and beautiful film is near flawless in every regard; I'm serious, It is really that good. Watch this movie, films like this deserve far more support than they've had.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is without a doubt one of the most interesting films I have ever seen, and I mean that In a good way. I can't really fully explain what type of movie this is, only that it is very bold and experimental in nearly every aspect, and that the film is - for lack of a better word - amazing. There are flaws, mainly a few plot holes, but I can't really say for certain if any of these flaws were actual oversights or not; they could very well be intentionally vague plot points. The film is really just art in it's highest form and watching It was an incredible time. Go and see this movie, I hope you'll be just as much in awe of it as I was.

Like many other A24 produced horror films, X is a solid and enjoyable slasher movie. There are some 'odd' tonal shifts during the first half of the film, but these shifts in tone are almost certainly intentional and actually mesh well with the over all plot. The last twenty minutes of the film were also a tad 'slow' - for lack of a better word - up until the very climactic and enjoyable ending. If you want to watch a simple, entertaining and interesting indie horror movie, then I would definitely recommend watching X.

As someone who was very excited to see this film, and has been patiently waiting for its release for more than a year, I am happy to say that The Batman is an awesome and intriguing experience. The only real criticism I have is that parts of the film did seem a little oddly paced at times, which can make the viewer feel a bit "jointed around", but this is a smaller criticism; it does not negate the films great acting, scenery, cinematography, choreography, and concepts. The Batman is an absolute must watch, and I can not wait for the inevitable sequel.

If you want to watch something that is simple, crude, and fun - then this is the movie for you; there is not much else to say besides that. I wouldn't judge this an ordinary film - it's not. This is a Jackass movie, and that is A-OK with me.

Scream is exactly what you'd expect it to be, and is also exactly what it probably needed to be. Besides some entertaining, but a tad on the nose, "meta" moments, the film is pretty straight forward. Also the dialogue can be a bit off at times, with some lines coming off as laughable. That being said, the movie is shot well, is pretty fun to watch, and it's plot isn't a confusing mess - so that's good. Taking all of that into account, I'd recommend watching Scream; It's a basic, but fun, movie. Also, you don't need to see the other Scream sequels to understand this one - I didn't.

There has been quite a buzz around this film, and after watching it I understand why. Don't Look Up has a lot of things to say and really wants the viewer to know that. The movie has very solid performances and has some unique editing, something that is par for the course in an Adam McKay film. However, I do think that the message of the film is a tad on the nose; and that the overall portrayal of humanity isn't fully "accurate", though it is entertaining. I understand that this movie is a parody; I'm just wondering - how much of one? While I think this is the weakest out of McKay's recent directorial endeavors, it is still worth a watch. It's a flawed, but interesting, film.

Encanto is beautiful, that's all I really have to say. It is just a beautiful, emotional, and great animated film that is worth watching. Disney animated films usually don't disappoint, and it definitely didn't this time.

To be blunt, this movie is complete schlock. The King's Man is such a bad film, that it is actually entertaining. The performances are so off, the tones are so mismatched, and the pacing is so odd, the movie is entertaining. There is one legitimately good segment in the movie, around a little over half-way in, that is actually really well shot and is pretty cool to watch; even though it's only twenty minutes and doesn't match most of the movie in terms of tone. I would watch this movie when you're bored and it's free on Netflix a year from now.

EDIT - I realized I was initially too harsh on this film. No Way Home has a way of sticking with you and I kept thinking about the movie more and more, and I started to appreciate it more as a result. The movie has a lot of problems, the last 2/3 of the movie started to feel less and less coherent, and the ending of the movie didn't really make much sense. However, everyone does a great job with their performances and you can tell that some of the cast was having a lot of fun. While this movie felt like shallow fanfiction at times, it also felt like a meaningful gift for fans of the "Masked Menace" in others. No Way Home is kind of an entertaining mess. The pieces are all there, they're just a tad out of order.
