Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

I had been planning to watch this movie for quite a long time. Three things really attracted me towards it. Firstly it's an animated movie about animals, and that rarely goes bad. Secondly its animation is so good, you can see every single fur on the owls and the leaves on the trees. Of course since it's directed by Zack Snyder, the visuals had to have a priority. And thirdly, the trailer. The music coupled with the slow motion shots made me wish I knew about this movie when it released. This looked like one of those movies which are meant to be watched in a theatre. Yesterday I finally watched it on Google Play Movies. It was made with so much perfection, it almost doesn't even feel like a 13 year old movie. It looks like it has been made in the recent years. The story follows two owlets who are still learning to fly but accidentally fall from a tree and while trying to get back up, are **** by two bigger owls. They are taken away to the Pure Ones, who plan to turn them into warriors. While the main character, Soren, escapes from the pure ones, his brother Kludd is left behind and gets trained by Nyra, the queen of the pure ones. The animation of this movie, as I've said before, is phenomenal. I have never seen something so good outside of Disney's The Lion King remake. The colour palette is simply breathtaking, it almost feels like a video game. The environments in which they are present are also very picturesque. The way they fly while fighting or above the ocean is also very cool, it almost feels like a painting coming to life. The way Metal Beak is shown in a flashback of how Grimble became a part of The Pure Ones gave me goosebumps. The characters have both serious and light moments. There are many funny scenes in the movie, alongside the much darker ones. But there are negative points too. First of all it's very hard to understand who's who because everyone looks so similar. I thought Grimble, Jutt and Ezylryb were all the same characters the whole time, and I figured out they're all different only while looking up the Wikipedia page as I was writing this review. Secondly many scenes end very abruptly and there is not enough breathing time. Like when they meet the porcupine who tells them to fly across the sea, and then suddenly in the next scene they are in a storm. The beginning of the movie also feels like they're just trying to get that part done away with quickly and get to the action. Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is one movie I'm gonna recommend everyone to watch, mainly for its visuals and family friendly content (compared to other Zack Snyder movies). I haven't read the books but now I really feel like doing so. The author is really lucky to have such a beautiful book adaptation. It is surely one of, if not the most underrated animated movies out there.

The Emoji Movie

To be honest, I saw The Emoji Movie only to understand why it gets so much hate. As a Redditor I understand why I am supposed to hate this movie (because...emojis?), but why does the normie audience hate it? Isn't this movie supposed to be like, their dream come true? Don't they always keep spamming emojis in all their sentences when writing a message or making a meme? When the movie hadn't come out it was being advertised a lot, so I thought people are supposed to be excited. Even the animation of this movie seemed really good. But I watched it and now I know the problem. The Emoji Movie is very ignorant. It talks about emojis as if it is supposed to be something very cool. In reality only elders, women and children use emojis when they message (because they are the only ones we can't slap some sense into). But then again the target audience here is the children. So considering this movie is from their point of view, emojis are supposed to be shown as though they mean a lot to them. So let's come to the second point. The emojis are shown to have their entire personality revolving around their expression. Why can't they just be doing their job? Also how come so many emojis look similar? Is it like only one of them goes to the emoji keyboard while the others have no business? There are so many questions that the movie doesn't answer. I don't know which problem plagues this movie the most. Is it the product placement? No, it just gives a feeling of adventure. None of the product placement looks as much on the nose as everyone describes. Like in TVF Originals they straight up speak out to advertise the things. Here at least Gene and Hi-5 are going to those places to see what is happening over there. I kinda found the Candy Crush part funny and relaxing at the same time. There was also the Just Dance part, and that was definitely cringy. But that was the only cringy one. Facebook, Skype, Drop Box - everything else was quite decent. The jokes weren't half as bad, considering this is aimed for kids. Even I used to make many poop jokes when I was 13. If there even was anything bad, the animation and music compensated for it. The idea that there are so many emojis that we can establish and entire world using it is actually something I'm guessing everyone must have thought at some point. The one part that I surely felt was cringy was when the kid gets to ask out his crush because he sent her a custom emoji. Only if life functioned that easily. Hi-5 was also pretty disgusting. Every time he kept his hand (thumb) down it used to hurt me. Imagine bending your thumb down that much. Also when he ate the salivated candy I felt like vomiting. The Emoji Movie is a bad movie, yes, but it's still better than many animated movies I have seen. Food Fight, Delhi Safari, Roadside Romeo, Geng: The Adventure Begins, Pangaa Gang, the entire Super Bheem series - there are plenty of examples of animated movies that are even worse than this. It does have redeeming qualities, even if they are not enough to make this a genuinely good movie. I can imagine the animators must have worked hard on this movie even if they didn't agree with the script. And that is the reason why I have massive respect for them.

The New Mutants

I had heard of The New Mutants a lot, and seeing how awesome it looked I thought I should really give it a try. On top of that it was even going to be a horror movie so a superhero-horror could be a fantastic combination (Unbreakable Trilogy, Brightburn - it always works for me). And now that I have just seen it, I feel betrayed to levels I cannot even comprehend. The above average rating that I'm giving this movie is only for the awesome visual effects. The CGI is very well done and the colour grading is on point. But that's pretty much it. The New Mutants is not even one and a half hours long. Normally I would have complained about it since I hate it when movies charge five hundred rupees and don't entertain us for even two hours, but since it was released digitally in the middle of a pandemic I will allow it, since it means I get more time to watch something else. However, this movie even lacks a plot. Not a cohesive plot or a good plot, but a plot itself. The only thing we get in the runtime is the exposition, kissing scenes, teenagers partying and occasionally back stories. In most of the scenes I would start laughing because of how badly the scenes were done. The acting is done very badly, especially by Dani, which is ironic considering she's the main character. Her only personality is that she is a Native American. Her backstory concerns that, her being bullied concerns that, her character development concerns that, and heck, the opening and closing speeches also concern that! The score is also very, very bad. There are so many 'scary' scenes in this movie which could have legit scared me if the background music and camera angles were better. And this movie had so many subplots which were never talked about. I guess there was supposed to be a sequel to this where this would have been talked about more, too bad. If you just remove the VFX this movie would become the worst in the X-Men franchise. One thing I really like about X-Men movies is that it can never be completely bad. I'd put this movie above at least Dark Phoenix and The Last Stand because of how good it looks. I read some reviews here and found out this movie had a lot of studio meddling, so I'd give it a benefit of doubt. Probably it could have been something better, but we will never know.

The Godfather

I'm gonna be a little too honest here. I only watched The Godfather in peer pressure. I don't even like old Hollywood films. I always start feeling drowsy while watching them. Not only is the camera quality too bleak, but the accent of the time was also very illegible. But this one was fun to watch. I saw it on Prime Video and took multiple sittings to watch this. I finished it 6 months ago but I remember seeing it like it was yesterday. Being from India, I have always thought of 70's films to be very family friendly and musical. But this isn't one of them. This one, in simple words, is metal. The Godfather is probably what has inspired an entire genre of crime films. It is like what Star Wars is to fantasy, or what Superman is to the superhero genre (man, all 70's films have been so revolutionary in Hollywood). The whole idea of two groups of mafia fighting out each other in the most brutal way possible gave rise to Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Gangs of Wasseypur, the Mafia game trilogy, and even this film's two sequels. That is the amount of cultural impact this film has left. Don Corleone has become a household name now. The action scenes, the music, the acting, everything is legendary. I legit screamed at the scene where they put the horse's head in that man's bed. We see many times people learning acting by watching The Godfather films. The only problem I had, however, was what I said in the beginning of the review. The sound is not clear at all. When Vito Corleone speaks he sounds like he is swishing saliva in his mouth like a washing machine. It almost feels like the captions are saying something completely different from what the captions are saying. I finally gave up and switched to Hindi because the English ADR was so bad. I really wish The Godfather was a standalone film. It has one of the most satisfying ending in all the old films. It really didn't need those terrible sequels which don't even have a Hindi dub. Although it has been almost 50 years since it released, it still feels like it would spark outrage among certain sections if a Bollywood adaptation would be made. Definitely way ahead of its time. I would have recommended it to everyone, except everyone I know is either not interested in cinematography or has already seen it.

As a kid I often used to hear people talk about Jurassic Park, but since I didn't know English and I don't like watching old movies, I didn't really feel like checking this out. It was only after I gained interest in watching movies did I decide to give this a look. I just got my Prime subscription and had seen everything, so I decided to give this a try. And boy was I surprised! I didn't even know what I was going to expect and being a huge **** for wildlife and natural environment, this movie made me delve into a fantasy world. Undoubtedly this is an iconic movie right off the bat. Jurassic Park has some of the most iconic characters from the 90s science fiction. The reason being that in spite of being a movie about dinosaurs, it was able to put the human characters inside with such effortlessness. I really liked John Hammond. What he did in the movie is something I'd really want to see happen in real life. Ian Malcolm also made the side characters look very interesting, as though he alone carried the burden of the comic relief scenes. And when it comes to the CGI, I don't think we even need enough words. This was fire right from the start. Seeing dinosaurs just do something on the screen and behave like actual wild animals was so awesome. The story was also pretty good. The idea that a scientist has created a wildlife sanctuary for dinosaurs where we travel using an self driven car is a fantasy for many Millennials and Gen-Z alike. If something like that happens in real life we will definitely want to give it a look. And seeing what all misadventures they had to go through, we have the uneasy feeling watching it. The T-Rex scenes still hold very well, especially the iconic part where the children are being driven away in the car. I really wanted Jurassic Park to be a standalone movie, which could be remastered into 4K as time and technology gets better. Even today it doesn't look outdated, other than the fact that some dinosaurs have been discovered to look different like the velociraptor, and the camera quality is very 90s-ish. But watching it on a big TV really gives the feel of seeing it in a theatre due to the old resolution. A definite recommendation from me.

If I were alive in my full senses in 2001 and had seen The Fast and the Furious, there is no way I could have possibly thought that this film will turn into a full blown franchise in the coming years. I mean the whole concept of these films is basically the cutscenes of a Need for Speed game. But still since I thought probably this franchise is supposed to be about something other than that too, I decided to give it a watch just to prove myself wrong. And I was wrong. This franchise isn't just about the racing. It's also about talking, talking and even more talking. The Fast and the Furious is not exactly a kind of a film that I would call memorable. The only scenes I remember from it are the beginning where Brian does the illegal street racing, the part where his secret identity is blown up and where the team is doing the truck stunts (I only remember that part because of the meme template). Other than that when it comes to this film, my mind literally goes blank. And wouldn't it be? I was watching it without subtitles in the metro while travelling for college. When I do this I only remember the most memorable scenes from a movie. From here I only remembered that much. I really liked the character of Brian. It's really sad that Paul Walker is no longer with us. He's literally the reason why I decided to continue watching this franchise, otherwise I'd have given up just like I did for Stuart Little, Hotel Transylvania and Jurassic Park. Thankfully this franchise becomes better with the sequels and redeems the name. I also liked Dominic in this film (but just this one). His dialogue about not mattering whether we lose by an inch or a mile really made me ponder a lot. Honestly this really goes above my head how a film with so much talking turned into what it is today. It's like if you don't give up on a bad film you can actually create an empire and then redeem your old films (looking at you Warner Bros). This film has gained a cult status among the fans and I respect that decision. I would have loved to rewatch this film to prove myself wrong, but remembering how much talking happens in it and the fact that it doesn't have the same payoff as a superhero or sci-fi movie really turns me off.

Hotel Transylvania

This movie was coming on the TV, so I was watching it with my mom. There were many scenes from this movie that were so cringy I felt like my mom would get furious (I will talk about them later). She didn't say anything, but I was feeling so ashamed I was trying to hide my face. Hotel Transylvania is one of those movies that are fun to watch while they last, but the moment they are over you will have nothing to remember them for. It's a generic comedy movie, similar to Minions, except this is not a cultural phenomenon. And that's not a bad thing. The story of this movie is pretty straightforward. Dracula's daughter has her 116th birthday so he has arranged a party for her with all the other monsters. However, a human has also sneaked into the party disguised as a monster and let me tell you, he's really, really disgusting and insensitive. And of course Dracula's daughter and he fall in love with each other because they are teenagers and that's literally what teenagers always do. So now Dracula is very angry because his family has been hiding from humans. So finally when he drives that human away his daughter gets all moody, and he's forced to get him back. There are many good things about this movie. The animation is pretty good. The comedy scenes also made me laugh, even though most of them aren't really clever jokes their references to the monsters and the comic timing make up for it. The storytelling is also not generic at all, but rather it is more focused on showing the good parts over the otherwise usual, boring "character conflicts" and plot twists. I really liked Dracula in this movie. The human was also very relatable. The bad things, however, are also pretty overwhelming. First of all, like I said, it's very forgettable. You must have figured out by now that I have already forgotten the names of all the characters other than Dracula because he is a cultural phenomenon (not because of this movie of course). That's why I have been calling the characters "the human" and "Dracula's daughter" since I don't even remember what their names were. Secondly like I said, there was too much cringe. The parts where Dracula's daughter says that she will give up on her father, someone she has been with for over a hundred years, for a snobby teenage tourist she met a couple of minutes ago even though she can't possibly be with him. And Dracula actually decided to help her, instead of slapping her and getting her on the right path. My mom is strictly for arranged marriages, so seeing those scenes with her made me feel she will say this is propaganda. Thank Satan she didn't say it. For me Hotel Transylvania is in the same leagues as Stuart Little and Jurassic Park. Yes it was fun and I liked it and all, but I don't have the courage to either rewatch it or see the sequels. It's too tiring to watch, so I guess I won't ever talk about it after having written this review.

The Suicide Squad

All Snyder and Ayer fans should know three things before they give this movie negative reviews. First, Zack Snyder is the executive producer of this movie. Second, Snyder, Ayer and Gunn are good friends. Dawn of the Dead, was written by James Gunn himself. And third, James Gunn supports the Snyderverse. He himself said he wants to see the Ayer Cut. And this is Suicide Squad. It's always going to be a different team. So both can coexist. With all that said, let's move on to the actual review. The thing I like about James Gunn's movies is that he doesn't take anything seriously. This is the reason why we get to see many weird things happening which we won't normally see in any other director's movies. There are many such instances in this movie itself, most particularly in the beginning where TDK uses his detachable arms to slap the enemy soldiers. There are also King Shark, whom Gunn manages to make terrifying and cute at the same time, there's Harley Quinn of course, who imagines weird things and then acts accordingly, and there's Bloodsport who acts all tough but gets scared of a rat. The comic timing is what makes this movie so good. All the characters have something unique to offer, and all of them are making the scene more exciting. I really liked that part where Harley Quinn comes out of the building and sees everyone coming in to save her. There are also other scenes where I couldn't hold my laughter, like King Shark raising his arm and saying "Hand!" (for that matter all King Shark scenes were great). Many deaths come up unexpected, and the movie gives us enough reasons to care. So it's always a flinching moment whenever someone dies. My favourite character in this movie, which must have become obvious by now, is King Shark. Whenever he is on the scene we know something good is going to happen. Even when he is not doing anything he just stands there adorably. I also like Peacemaker. His dialogues are great, and every time he speaks it's something funny. Bloodshot also has some really great action scenes along with him. Ratcatcher II and Harley Quinn were also hilarious when needed. The team that comes in the start really sets the mood and I really hope they do something great with Weasel. He looked interesting. I have only read one Suicide Squad comic (Rebirth) and watched three movies (the 2016 one, this and Hell To Pay). So I won't call myself an expert on the franchise. But seeing how Kill the Justice League is also seeming to be in similar tone, I believe Suicide Squad is supposed to be this hilarious rollercoaster. And this movie absolutely stands by it. I'd really hope we get to see at least like, ten Suicide Squad movies and shows in this decade.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Initially I had never decided to watch the Star Wars Anthology movies, since I only wanted enough information to understand what the franchise is all about. I watched the movies (IX hadn't come out yet), and I really liked the storyline. So that is why I decided to watch this movie because I had really grown into liking Han Solo, and I didn't like how he was given such an unfair death. And so I decided to give this and Rogue One a watch. Unlike conventional audience, however, I liked Solo and didn't like Rogue One (the review is on my profile, in case you want to know why). Solo is the only Star Wars movie that I was able to understand in my first viewing. English is not my first language and I watch the movies without the subtitles to hone better command over the language. This is why its campiness didn't bother me, but rather made me like it even more. Although the actor didn't really look like Harrison Ford, I was happy to just see him do something on the screen. That coupled with the amazing CGI and cinematography made this movie worth a watch. I really liked the story. The beginning part where Han is trying to get himself a better life really made me feel uncomfortable in a good way. Seeing the scene I could feel how miserable Han was feeling at the moment. He only wanted a better life for his woman, and ended up being taken away from her and getting drafted. His meeting with Chewbacca felt very tense even though we all know they are going to be friends. The train robbery scene was also very cool, although I don't remember too much about this movie. It has been very long since I watched it. As long as Solo helped in adding more to my favourite human character's lore in the franchise, I'm all good with it. It's great to see a movie which is all about Han Solo and Chewbacca, completely free from the influence of Luke or Leia. I really hope Star Wars makes a third movie in the anthology so that we can have a complete fourth trilogy.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

The only way to solve world hunger is if it happens free of cost and everyone gets as much as they want all the time. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a movie that is about exploring this idea. The film follows Flint, a gifted scientist who uses his mind to come up with this idea. Although this movie mostly makes no sense and is not suitable for a mature audience, it does not pretend to do so. It is what it is. While writing this review I learnt this is a book adaptation which was originally published in 1978. So considering that I believe the author would have really liked this movie. Flint is a character who is all about creating weird, wacky things without caring about the consequences. It is very similar to a superhero comic I've been making, so I can very well understand how much thought goes into showing what all things the protagonist makes in order to make the audience believe the tall claim. The problem here is, however, it is never shown why he suddenly decided to make a machine that can create food. It was never established that the whole town has been eating his father's sardines, nor it has been shown that Flint was made to eat the sardines. It was only said that his father wants him to sell them. Also there was no problem of poverty on the island either, so none of that really mattered. Then there was the introduction of Sam Sparks, who was introduced as a journalist that really pretended to not look like a nerd. The character seemed annoying until it was told how she became the way she is. And honestly the transformation should not have happened. From what was established, her glasses were of near-sightedness, so she has hypermetropia and thus she should only wear glasses when she needs to read. Also the song "Four eyes, four eyes, you need glasses to see!" got embedded in my brain after watching this movie. It also comes to my mind whenever I play Brawlhalla. Seeing the food from the sky really makes me hungry. Many people ask if you were to live in a fictional world, which one you will choose. If I had to choose, I'd say this one. The food which gets thrown away can help me last a lifetime. This is the reason why the climax scene didn't scare me at all. I'd gladly die that way, if it meant not eating gruel for breakfast the way I have always been doing since the pandemic started. But then again, this is just my personal problem because of the situation we are all in right now. This is a part of the original story so I won't blame the movie for this. I'm not sure the original story had Flint and Sam blow their cheeks while kissing though, so I'd definitely call that out. Overall considering all the creative liberty that this movie took, this was the only thing I found annoying. Other than that I liked everything about this. The character of Baby Brent, the police officer, the mayor - everyone was very well done. It's a good thing this movie turned into a franchise, because of which we will be able to see these characters more in the future. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is just what you'd want to watch if you have nothing better to do and want to spend some time with children. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and is an adaptation of a children's book, plus the animation is also pretty good so you will definitely not want to miss out this one if you're watching all the 3D animated movies of the current times. A definite watch from my recommendation.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Normally whenever there is an introduction to a new alter-ego for a superhero we all know and love, it is often met with backlash. No one can accept **** Grayson as Batman, Calvin Ellis as Superman, Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, Wally West as The Flash - the list goes on. And Spider-Man is one of, if not the most popular and likeable superheroes out there. So in such a condition replacing our beloved Peter Parker with some new random guy could have been a disastrous idea. But not only did this movie take the risk, we're glad it did. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the kind of a superhero animated movie I wanted to see - one with traditional animation done in the style of stereoscopic 3D, with continuous symbols of glitches. Personally I consider watching two superhero movies to be the most connected with watching a comic - Zack Snyder's Justice League and this. And out of the two ZSJL feels more like some painting more than an actual comic, so this one takes the cake for it. The speech bubbles, the panel swipes, the colour splashes; everything make this movie look like watching a Spider-Man comic come to life. Personally I'm all in for the diversity in the characters. Normally I am annoyed when diversity is their only trait. When such a character is added just for the sake of existing, it just makes it look like a wasted effort, and what makes worse is that we can't even point it out without upsetting some people. Miles Morales, however, absolutely does not feel the same. The kind of a person he is, the way he turns into Spider-Man and meets the other heroes to learn more about who and what he is, everything seems to come out naturally. The story is very well thought out, which is also another reason why it feels so natural. If I were given to introduce a character and bid farewell to the renowned one, I could have never done it as well as this did. It introduced many different types of Spideys, made us feel emotions for all of them, had us sympathise with the bad guys all the while making us laugh and cheer at the fights. See this is exactly what I'd want from a comic book movie, especially a superhero one. It should not just be, but actually feel like we are immersed into the environment, even though it is an animated movie. My favourite character in this movie was Spider-Noir. He was hilarious as a detective, always talking about everything like it is supposed to be a mystery. He also looked cool, so there's also a plus to that. Then I also liked Miles Morales himself. Whatever the movie was wanting me to feel for him, I did so. As he builds his character development from being a clumsy teenager to the most powerful Spidey, it was a spectacle to watch. I really wish to see more of these. Miles Morales is already one of my favourite characters now, so even if in future he slowly replaces Peter Parker as the face of Spider-Man, I won't feel bad about it. The recent PS5 game, if I hadn't watched the movie, wouldn't have received my interest no matter however good it was, since I would never accept anyone else as my Spider-Man. It really seems to be a great time to be a Spidey-fan. I hope it lasts long.

Spirited Away

I watched Spirited Away as a kid, when my then-weeb sister forced me to. We had to share our computer time and she forced me to sit there and watch this. I didn't like this film at all, and was constantly throwing a tantrum at every scene. First of all I had never liked anime, probably my sister had heard about this from school. And secondly I could have been playing browser games instead of watching this. But now when I look back at it, this is one of the best anime films I have watched. However, since I saw this film over twelve years ago, my knowledge is not very fresh and I might make some mistakes while writing this review. As I have grown into becoming an artist now, the idea of this film has started to make sense. The film begins in an absolutely surreal manner. The idea behind the girl's parents turning into pigs after eating like them is quite scary, which is exactly what the film wants us to feel. I remember I was thinking why she doesn't sit and eat with them. I have always been such a foodie, I might have as well ended up like them if I were there. And then this girl had to run away and live among the monsters. Each one of them was traumatising, except the woman whom Spider-Eggman convinces by giving her a roasted lizard. Now I won't go too much in detail for the characters or the story, since I don't think I remember anything correctly. As I write this review I am getting occasional glimpse of some scenes, particularly the slime monster one. So all I'm gonna talk about are the other aspects of this film. First of all, this film is a dream for any postmodernist art lover. The idea of random things happening, the characters who can only exist in a fever dream interacting with the girl and the old woman - everything about this is like something Salvador Dali would be proud of. The only problem I had in this film is from the plot holes. I could be wrong since I watched it so long back, that too while throwing a tantrum and not wanting to watch this film (I have completely forgotten the part where the black Shy Guy meets the girl; I believe it happens in this film?). The part where the girl tries cleaning the muck from the bath and the slime monster gets upset and start chasing her; how do they suddenly become friends? Just because the monster got tired from chasing her? That scene has never made any sense to me. Also who was that boy who came in the beginning? How come he never got to do the work the girl was doing, irrespective of whether he himself was a monster or a human? Either way it makes the film look like a nightmare, which I'm pretty sure it wasn't trying to. Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (this is the actual name of this film) is the first and by far the only Hayao Miyazaki film I have seen. Even though I don't know much about his signature style, this film gave me a vague idea of how he is different from the conventional anime artists. In case all his films are like this, I'd really hope to see them all. And I'd personally want to apologise for the bad time I gave my sister while watching it.

WALL-E

WALL-E was the Pixar movie that from which I learnt what Pixar was. I saw its poster in the newspaper and thought it was a cool robot movie. I asked my mom to let me watch it but since we come from a very conservative family, I wasn't allowed to. We didn't have a TV at home and even when we got one, we didn't have Disney Channel paid on it. So I finally got to see it a few years ago when I was travelling in the metro. And boy this is such a good movie, I'm really disappointed I didn't see it earlier. WALL-E is everything we expect from a Pixar movie. It has a central character who is identified by his desire to do something big. He is living alone on a deserted planet, still cleaning up everything because that was his job. His innocence is what makes him so interesting. The movie is also moving forward with character development and world building, which makes us, the viewers, know just as much as WALL-E does. There is nothing that we don't know and a concept comes from out of the blue. The only other Pixar movie I can think of where this happens is Cars. The second important character in the movie is EVE. WALL-E falls in love with her not only because she is also a humanoid robot with a feminine touch and voice, but also because she is the only other creature WALL-E has seen in this post-apocalyptic world. Other than her he has only seen rats and ****, and we have seen how he treats them as a friend too. This is a metaphor of how we see the little things in life when we have nothing to either distract us or to force us to do something else. This is why WALL-E gets so much distressed when EVE puts the plant inside her and switches off, and also why he decides to follow her to space. In space also WALL-E is really confused. He was never designed for space, nor had he ever seen what space looked and felt like. He had also seen the humans physically for the first time, who have deformed to a point where they are no longer recognisable. Speaking of the humans, their bones have gone detached and they are literal jellybeans at this point, who can no longer work. And they are not in a shape to continue working for very long at this rate, which can lead to their extinction. All of this happened because humans didn't care about the planet and focused more on leaving it than fixing it. Once the humans finally reach Earth, they start their civilisation afresh on the abandoned planet. This is the most important message in the movie; it is never too late to redeem yourself. Many people think that the message of the movie is just to preserve the planet, but in my opinion THIS is the true message. Finally EVE and WALL-E unite and they live happily ever after, which makes it the most Pixar movie to ever exist. The animation, music, cinematography, everything is perfect. It is also suitable to people of all ages. This is one of those movies which will be used to define what the animated movies of our era used to be like. It is cool, it is well made, it has a message, it has many fans and it's made by Disney. Plus it has so much emotion. If this is not the perfect Pixar movie, I don't know what is.

Suppose you have to make a movie on Barbie. So, what do we know about her? She's beautiful, she's the symbol of feminine, she goes on adventures. Now suppose if these characteristics were taken and Barbie was turned into a porn film series, how would it feel? Wrong, right? Toys are supposed to be the emotions of children. So they have to be given characteristics and emotions, and not just mash them together and throw in a joke after every two lines. This is exactly the problem with the Transformers franchise, and that's what this movie has fixed. One really good thing about this movie is that unlike many character-driven movies like Sonic the Hedgehog or Cars, Bumblebee has not only ben about his relationship with other people. It is a major plot point, yes, but other than that there's also Cybertron, where the Autobots are fighting a lost cause. So this gives a sense of time constraint to the movie. If it wastes too much time the Decepticons will come on Earth and attack the humans. There are occasional warnings like that guy's pickup truck being smashed. Because of this the humans have been properly intertwined with the consequences. While Bumblebee is spending time with Charlie, he also has to learn the ways in which he must behave if he needs the humans to trust him. Charlie knows about the Cybertron attack but she can't let Bumblebee run in the open otherwise the military will take him away. The military thinks that Bumblebee is a bad guy because the Decepticons told them. There is also Charlie's friend Memo who helps her in the adventure. Overall everyone has an important part to play in this movie. And this is how it should be since the humans are in the movies for the majority of the runtime so they shouldn't be cringy to watch. The only thing this movie was lacking was Michael Bay's action scenes. I'd have preferred if they allowed Bay to stay for the fight scenes, but let Travis Knight do the rest. The action scenes and their choreography were given a nod every time Cybertron was shown. In fact, the movie begins on Cybertron itself. The fight between Bumblebee and Shatter and Dropkick clearly made it seem like how Bumblebee is struggling to keep up with them as the military is also intervening their fight. The character development of not just Bumblebee, but Charlie is also seen in the movie. In all the previous five Transformers movies, there was little to no character development, which is what made us stop caring about them. We already knew Optimus Prime will always be the good guy who will fight everyone and win (remember the Martha scene from the Last Knight where Bumblebee suddenly starts speaking and Optimus suddenly becomes a good guy?) and Megatron will be the generic bad guy. Here we have Bumblebee trying to cope with his new life, Charlie trying to get over her fear, Memo trying to impress her and Agent Burns who learns to trust the aliens. We just need a few more movies like Bumblebee and the Transformers franchise will come back on track. We have seen the character development of one Autobot, now Optimus Prime should be the next one and then possibly Megatron to give his point of view. Finally we have gone over Sam Witwicky and Cade, who had the most one dimensional personalities. Now it's all about Charlie.

The Lion King was the first Disney movie that I saw. We used to be taken to the AV Room of our school where we would watch this on a projector. We were only allowed to watch it till the period was going on, so I never saw it after the 40 minute mark. I could not even watch it anywhere else since we didn't have a TV at home (and even if we did what was the guarantee that this movie would be coming on it?) and internet wasn't as popular as it is today (although there are many reviews here dated before the time). So I finally watched it in 2006, and here's my review. Yes, I'm fully aware of the fact that even though Walt Disney Animated Pictures claims this is their first original story, this is in fact stolen from the anime Kimba the White Lion. So in protest I will also not take as much effort as the writer of this movie did. But even with that fact in mind this movie is in fact a spectacle for the eye. The voice acting, the animation, the songs, the coherence, the characters - everything is so wonderful. Simba was pretty cute as a child, which is what brought my interest in lion documentaries. Instead of remaking the movie in live action, Disney should have just remastered this movie in 4K using AI. It would have been much cheaper and the final product would have also been more well received. They could have removed the 1994 one from their Disney+ library for good which would have made everyone watch the remaster and that would have been a huge profit.

Inside Out

User Scorepur__0_0__
Aug 20, 2021
Pixar has made movies of all kinds - What if toys, insects, monsters, cars, fishes or rats had feelings. And now they have made Inside Out - what if feelings had feelings? Inside Out is probably one of the most underrated movies that Pixar has made. It was the first original Pixar movie which I didn't get to know about when it released (the first such one was a sequel, Monsters University), and I'm really surprised how this movie gets overlooked so easily. The way I see it, this movie is a social commentary about how we perceive life with our emotions. Riley here is a metaphor of us, how we feel when we move to a new place and are unable to handle the new life. In such situations we either feel scared, angry or depressed. When Riley starts crying in class, Joy tries to stop Sadness from ruining her memory with a vacuum but ends up destroying all her other memories. This is another metaphor from our lives, where we end up forgetting all our happy memories in times of desperation. Later on Joy and Sadness are in her memories, where they see Riley's childhood drawing of Bing Bong whom she considered her friend. The plot has been made with a complete sense of nostalgia. When we feel nostalgic, we feel both happiness and sadness at the same time. We are happy because we got to live those times, the time which was better than what we are living at the moment. We are sad because we know that time never stops, and so everyday we are straying further away from when it happened. We will never be able to live the day again, and it shall only stay in our memory. While Joy and Sadness are not present Fear, Anger and Disgust control her. I don't think I need to explain this. Riley has lost all her happiness and does not feel any sadness. Keep in mind she had previously cried in class, which is something very embarrassing for a ten year old child. As a result she does not want to show her sorrow in front of everyone since she fears people will laugh at her, so instead she tries to cover it with anger and disgust. This is just like how we behave when we are depressed but are also too afraid of what others might think if they learn about it. And then there is the memory dump, the place where the old memories are forgotten. This is one of the deepest messages that the movie gave us. To save Joy and Sadness and allow them to get out of the pit, Bing Bong readily sacrifices himself. This is because he had always considered himself and Riley friends, and he was ready to sacrifice his own life for this. It also shows how Riley has now lost the memory of Bing Bong due to her depression and frustration, and it is something she will never remember again. This is a metaphor of how we forget the small details from our childhood which gave us joy once we grow out of the phase. It also symbolises that although Bing Bong has been lost forever, Riley's joy and sadness will always remember him. This is similar to how we get nostalgic whenever we see our childhood writings and drawings. And finally when Joy and Sadness do make it back, then Joy chooses to let Sadness guide Riley. If she wanted she could have guided Riley and make her feel happy about reuniting with her parents. But in that case the moment would have completely lost the impact. So instead Sadness did it, which is why Riley started crying, something she had not done for a long time. This is yet another metaphor of when we are unable to hold our sorrow for too long and burst out crying. As a result her parents are finally able to understand the situation she is in and give her more love. In the end Riley starts feeling happy, since everyone has understood the value of Joy. She was the first emotion that Riley felt, and the one who guided them all in the time of desperation. All the other emotions came to her afterwards, which is why they are not as emotionally attached to Riley as Joy does. Joy knows what is the best for her, just like how we feel the best thing for our life is what makes us feel happy. The only problem I had with this movie was, well, it looks way too subtle. The reason why this movie is so overlooked is because of how ordinary it looks compared to all the heavyweights that Pixar makes. Riley's face also a little too wrong. It looks like an adult's nose has been put on a child's face. Anger looks like he is made of synthetic sponge. Plus it doesn't make sense that in spite of seeing over and over that he is making mistakes, he still does not let Disgust and Fear do the work which does not give enough balance to all of the characters. But other than that Inside Out is a very good movie for a character study. I have never before seen a family movie with such a deep, hidden philosophy. The only one which comes even close to it is Zootopia, but it was more inclined towards telling the story than giving the message. Inside Out is a definite must-watch in my opinion if you like movies like these. I really hope this one gets a sequel.

I often heard a lot about the Transformers movies and how they went from bad to worse. But I never understood how a franchise that's making so cool trailers can possibly be bad. I had even watched the first two movies and liked them more than the average ratings. Dark of the Moon, however, answered my question. Little did we know that this was the part where the eventual downfall of the franchise will begin. And trust me when I say this, I really wanted to like this movie. Only if the pesky humans gave me a chance to do so. The movie, once again, starts with Autobots saving the world from Decepticons. But then one of them gets caught by the bad guys. To be honest this, THIS is the very problem of the movie. We have come to watch Transformers for the big CGI fights, not to see the conflicts of humans and robots. Because I believe I'm speaking on behalf of all the people when I say this, but if there's ever a conflict between humans and Autobots, we will any day prefer the Autobots, even if they are wrong. The CGI of this movie is amazing. This is one thing Michael Bay is really good at (other than the explosions of course). I really like to watch the Transformers turn into sports cars and drive across long distances all the while fighting the Decepticons. The thing is, however, it's literally the only reason why I watch Michael Bay's Transformers movies. I don't watch it to see how Sam enters the gents restroom and someone else who comes in thinks he's in a cubicle having sex with another man. Nor am I interested in seeing Sam's parents trying to be funny because let's get real, they're not. The acting of this movie is also terrible. Though I'd give it some extra points for completing Sam's arc, I'd also deduct some points for not showing Mikaela. She was the only human character I was interested in looking at ^_^. Even the Transformers act in a very campy manner. The villain of this movie looks like a discount version of The Fallen. And as usual the fight later shifts to Optimus Prime and Megatron, making the villain, once again, completely useless. There's not a single thing for which I'd want to rewatch this movie. It only stands among a sloppy series, plus it's the part where the franchise starts failing until Bumblebee came to rescue, so there's absolutely no reason to watch it. It's so forgettable I had to watch Honest Trailers and Cinemasins just to remember what happened in it. And even then I couldn't remember half the things.

When I had heard everyone say that Transformers movies keep getting worse as time moves on I was actually very hesitant to watch this. I really liked the first movie so there was no way I could believe that THIS franchise could possibly be bad (although I did see that later on, I didn't see it here). In my review of the first movie I said how I got interested in the Transformers franchise after watching it, since I didn't know this was actually a toys company and not an anime series. If that movie was just the introduction, this was where the real action takes place. I saw Revenge of the Fallen on Amazon Prime soon after the first one. I only had one week left before my Prime subscription would expire, so I had only decided to dedicate this time to watching all the Transformers movies so that I could understand what this franchise is all about. Unlike the future movie this one actually expanded on what was established at the first movie. Although the human characters were not as interesting as the previous movie and the story was also pretty much empty, the action scenes completely made up for it. As usual the CGI and action was very good. The new characters introduced were fun to watch. I really like to see it when new characters are brought in and given their own character development as they transform into cool cars. However not everything about this movie was good. Like I said above the human characters were not as interesting. The entire blood about Sam going to college and his parents continuously pestering him was very annoying. This was the last time we got to see Mikaela, which is also something very sad IYKWIM. This movie was able to explain very well the entire concept of Transformers, something that the prequel fail to do so. Before I used to think that Autobots and Decepticons are supposed to be cars, but now I know that they are actually robots which can turn themselves into whatever they see in front of them. I would definitely give a rewatch afterwards sometime in the future whenever I have to show this franchise to a new generation.

As a kid I didn't know that Transformers is a set of toys. I only used to think that it is an anime series. The first time I learnt about the movies was when one of my friends got a Nexus tablet to school and played this movie when there was no teacher in the class. I really liked the opening scenes and decided that at some point I will watch this movie. Little did I know that the opportunity will come 8 years later when the lockdown would happen. I watched it and enjoyed it very much. Transformers is exactly what I wanted to watch when I used to see the terrible anime. I didn't like Optimus Prime very much back then but in this movie I understood why he is so important to the franchise and now I am a huge fan of Optimus Prime. There were so many other Transformers whose names I got to learn as I watched this full staff I used to see this movie in parts on TV and I used to think that Bumblebee was Hotshot. After watching this movie I was feeling like replacing the the logo of my car with the Transformers logo. All the Transformers movies have very good CGI, cinematography, choreography and colour grading. What the other movies lack in, however, is a good story and acting. This movie has all of that. I really wish all the other Transformers movies were also like this. Here I cared about Sam, the army guys and of course, Mikaela (°"U"°). This is one of the only two Transformers movies which actually has a good plot (the other doing bumblebee). If the future Transformers movies had built up on what this movie created they could have actually been very awesome. But instead they focused more on creating a bigger universe with more cars and more merch to sell rather than on character development. I can often come back to watch this movie because of the cool cars and fight scenes, without having any of the cringe the future movies had.

I was in kindergarten when this movie came out. I never watched it because everyone else was watching it. I have come up with the concept of normie long before it was created. Other than that it was also because I came from a very conservative family. I was not allowed to watch movies in theatre, especially not a Hollywood one. So as all the kids used to talk about it I grew into hating it. And when this movie came on TV I only watched it with a critical point of view. It was only years after when I watched it and truly appreciated it. Finding Nemo is a very colourful movie filled with many sea creatures. It is an excellent movie that can teach children about the different types of marine life. I have heard about how everyone started hunting for clownfish after this movie came up. Although this is a bit sad and very cruel thing to do it also shows the impact that this movie was able to create and how much people enjoyed watching it. The fishes were shown in a very cute manner, especially the pufferfish. The only problem I have with this movie is the lack of a story. It's just a fish going from point A to point B. Although this does make for a good story since it helps in character development and world building, but these things should not be done while completely sacrificing a good story. I think I really like this movie and I will watch that once again to truly appreciate it.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters was the first Monsterverse movie I learnt about. My friend is a huge fan of kaiju movies and he showed me the trailer of this movie when it first came out. I was struck in awe. I couldn't believe something so legendary looking was actually going to be made while I live. The poster and promotional materials were also looking so much filled with fantasy. I watched the 2014 Godzilla to watch this. If you've seen my review of that movie, you will know how much I loved it except for the human part. But when I watched this movie, I was very dissatisfied. The problem that plagues Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the humans. First of all they are talking so much. The whole time all we see is talking, talking and even more talking. First Madison and her mother are talking, then the army is talking, then the eco terrorists are talking. And finally when Godzilla and Kong Ghidorah finally start fighting, then seen cuts to the humans running. Look, I have no problem with humans being shown in Godzilla movies. But it should be like the 2014 movie, where humans are only shown when the monsters are walking and not during the fights. The human plot of this movie is very pathetic. The eco terrorists had a point and I completely agreed with them, but as it was shown how they are supposed to be the bad guys was not very surprising. I have never understood movies which villify eco-terrorists. Like, why don't they ever explain why they are supposed to be bad? Take a moment, think about valid points and just speak them out. It doesn't have to be "you're the bad guy boo-hoo!". This only makes us feel like the bad guys won. The CGI, however, is where this movie is an absolute win. I will give it full marks for that. I just love all the fight scenes from it. When Rodan seemed to have killed Mothra I was feeling very bad for her, but seeing how she made a comeback was very surprising. The part where Rodan and King Ghidorah fight the planes was also very cool. I really wanted to show that scene to someone else (sadly I'm the only person who is interested in Monsterverse and those who are interested already watched the movie before me). Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a movie that completely tested my patience. It was fun, I'm gonna remember all the monster scenes, but I don't think I'm ever gonna have the courage to watch this ever again. Some things are best left in memory, and that's what I'd say about this movie. It's a good thing Godzilla vs Kong removed the bad parts and made what we wanted to see. That's how this franchise is supposed to be, not like this one.

Honestly I hate King Kong. I can't stand seeing an ugly gorilla killing cool dinosaurs. Initially I had skipped this movie and directly watched Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but seeing how many references of this movie that movie had in the post credits and the fact that I needed to watch this to understand Godzilla vs Kong is why I watched this movie in the first place (I still haven't watched Godzilla vs Kong though lmao). This movie, however, wasn't that bad. In fact the CGI is pretty good. But that doesn't change the fact that an ugly gorilla is killing cool looking Skullcrawlers here, although I was satisfied that he could win only with the human help. Samuel Jackson plays the role of an annoying general who gets his comeuppance (which is the reason why I have given it such a good rating). He was so irritating. When he said he will kill all the Skullcrawlers after he kills Kong I felt like going in the screen and slapping him. Like, just one scene ago your entire squad got thrashed by only one Skullcrawler child and here you're dreaming of taking down every single one of them you zoophobe!? The movie takes place on an island in the 70's. Although Kong gets very less screen time and there is too much talking and exposition, it wasn't as bad as the Godzilla movies. The human characters were actually interesting. I liked the part where one of them dies when a giant spider steps on him and everyone thinks it's a tree. The professor who explains the entire context of the tribes worshipping Kong was also an interesting story. In the end they all manage to get away from the island and tell the world about what they saw. It was a good ending. If they had done something like saying why they were going to keep it a secret I'd have legit given it a 1 star rating. The CGI has been done very well. Although it features a number of cool creatures (the Skullcrawlers especially), it does not induce the same frantasy feeling that Godzilla movies do. It only makes it feel like giant creatures fighting in an island. It doesn't feel "legendary", like what you feel when you watch King of the Monsters' trailer. It just looks... Meh. Kong: Skull Island may not be some very extraordinary movie, but you do have to watch it if you want to watch Godzilla vs Kong. It's a bit annoying but makes it up with the colour palette. I really hope this is the last time I'm seeing the ugly gorilla. Because I am never going to re-watch this.

My friend is a huge fan of kaiju movies. He showed me the trailer of Godzilla: King of the Monsters when it first came. I was so much filled with awe, I decided to watch all the movies in Monsterverse. This was the first one, and the very reason why I got interested in this cinematic universe. I did watch a couple of other Godzilla movies and saw how this is different, since this movie has so many negative reviews compared to them. But turns out this is still good. The thing which struck me about this movie which makes it different from other kaiju movies is what made me like it so much. This movie shows Godzilla from the humans' eye view. Because of this it shows the intensity of Godzilla's movement. You can actually feel his weight every time he walks, runs, growls or uses his atomic breath. Every time he moves dust falls out of his body, which is probably how insects also see us. My favourite scene was the one where some people are in a casino and it is being shown on TV that Godzilla is coming. Suddenly the power goes off and then the roof comes off. The two MUTOs are also way better monsters than the Skullcrawlers or the ones from King of the Monsters. Unlike them, here we get to see exactly what their motivation is and what is at stakes here. They would lay their eggs and populate earth, destroying all the small life. Unlike King Ghidorah or Rodan, there are both male and female MUTOs who can lay millions of eggs which will make their work spread for centuries. This is more in likes to Skullcrawlers except it would be the whole world instead of one island. People here are complaining about how much screen time is given to talking and army instead of the monsters. But this isn't a problem actually. To show such a realistic kaiju movie we would require a boat load of money. The thing is, the showing should not be inconsistent, something which ruined King of the Monsters. When the monster fight is shown, it's shown. It does not cut back to the humans until the fight is finally over. After that Godzilla just wakes up and walks into the sea. Godzilla is a fresh take on something we have seen many times before, except with a different point of view. It's nice to see monsters from a human's eyes. It's like all the fantasies I dreamt of as a kid with extinct animals. I really wish this franchise becomes super successful in the future.

As a kid I never really liked Stuart Little. The animated show used to come on TV but for some reason I wasn't really fond of it. I think it had something to do with the fact that its animation is not really kid-friendly and it does not have the same sense of humour as Tom and Jerry or Looney tunes. It was only later that I got to know that this is a movie and the animated show was just an adaptation. My sister watch this movie as a kid, so we decided to to watch attack on watch it on Amazon Prime for the sake of nostalgia. It was quite fun to watch, but not something I would want to rewatch. Stuart Little is a story about the eponymous mouse who comes to live with his adopted family and how he slowly bonds with them over regular family issues. I personally think that Stuart Little is a very good example of teaching children how animals are also sentient beings like us. In spite of being a smaller creature Stuart proves that he is not of smaller value. This is exactly what makes this character so special. He does not give up on his dignity when someone talks down to him, which would happen either if he decides to turn violent or if he accepts what they are saying. Initially George was not very happy when he learnt that his family decided to adopt an animal instead of getting him a new sibling. Not just him, but their domestic house cat Snowbell was also very tensed about what other cats will say when they find out a mouse has become his master. And so he decides to get Stuart out of the house by hook or by crook. But in spite of all this Stuart continues to help them in need, like when he made George's boat for the boat racing competition and helping Snowbell escape from the cats. The cinematography of this movie is very good, but it is not suited for a children's movie. It has a very adult feeling to it, considering it has a hole some humour and not an outrageously humorous one. This is probably the reason why I didn't like the animated show, and now I can see where this problem came from. The visual tone and colour palette are such that this movie can only appeal to the audience of Harry Potter or Narnia, which is a very different target audience from what this movie aims to focus on. Although I liked the movie, I found to be very boring. It's not something I can watch after I grow up without dozing off. This is the reason why I have said that I will not watch it again. It seems a drag to watch this even when I have to show it to someone else. Plus this movie doesn't suit adults very much because of its child-like conflicts and happy ending. I haven't watched any sequels and I don't plan to. I hope there is nothing worthwhile in the sequel which I have to watch to understand something from this movie, not like this looks like that kind of a movie.

Shrek is one of the most popular animated movie franchises of all time because of the characters. Everything that happens in the story is a result of the actions that some character take senate takes in it. Shrek wants to be left alone and does not care about anyone, because of which the first movie happens. Fiona wants her father to accept her husband for what he is because of which the second movie happens. Prince charming wants to take revenge for his mother's death and motivates evil character to do what they do, so the third movie happened. Basically Shrek is the Shrek of all animated movie franchises. Here also the movie is driven by Shrek's reluctance. In spite of getting everything one needs in the life Shrek is not happy. As a result he sells away the day he was born to Rumpelstiltskin. This causes him to disappear from the timeline thus making him realise his true self worth. It is only after he loses Donkey and Fiona that he realises how much he loves them. And not just him, he even realises how much the ogres mean to the fairy land. The thing I really like about Shrek movies is that they are set in the same world as all the fairy tale characters who stories we heard of as children. Fairy tales are something we emotionally relate to because of our childhood, and also don't get offended if someone makes fun of it. This is used very nicely in Shrek movies except the third one where they just make jokes that could have worked in literally any other film. Here I really liked how Shrek and Donkey met each other for the first time in this new life and how Shrek tries to meet Fiona again (though I didn't like that "My donkey fell in your waterhole" joke). The thing I didn't like about this movie is that it did not work too much over the franchise. It just reiterated the same Fiona story. This is a problem with the last two movies. They haven't established more of the world other than what was done from the first two movies. And even if it did it wouldn't have really mattered. This movie played it very safe after The Third's failure by making all the events disappear, just in case the movie isn't liked that much. This wouldn't have been a problem, except this is supposed to be the last movie of the franchise. It's a pity this is the last movie of the franchise, because the franchise could have been revived if there were more such movies. I hope if there is a fifth Shrek movie, they make it about Shrek moving to Far, Far Away so that their children have a better upbringing. So they behave in an ogre manner at school and Shrek learns to be a better person so that his children have a good role model.

I had watched Despicable Me only so that I could finally understand what the whole deal with the minions was. But I ended up liking the movie and all the characters in that. As a result I decided to watch the sequel as well, which I ended up liking even more than the first one. So I thought why not just go all out and watch every single movie? And so I watched this one, and I really I think it was not something really great, although it did manage to do what it was meant to do: give us the laughs and have a good time. Despicable Me 3 is about Gru finding out about his estranged brother Dru who is living a very rich life but does not have the evil nature of Gru and thus is not liked as much by his family. And so grew is forced to take his brother along with him to stop the evil villain Balthazar Bratt, a child actor from the 80s who has faded away with time. Although the minions in this movie are way less than the previous two I don't mind this at all. In fact I kind of found them annoying and I wanted more of the human characters than those yellow Facebook meme sources. Balthazar is my favourite villain from this franchise. All his acts are very funny. Whenever he is on the screen you know you are in for some good time. There are often callbacks to his show which is very campy and has barred CGI according to today's times, which is just like how we see shows from the 80s today. He always dances and plays songs whenever he is out on the heist. It is fun to watch Gru and Balthazar fight in the opening scene and also the way Baltasar dances as he defeats all the guards on the ship. The animation of this movie is way better than the previous two, especially when it comes to the action scenes and car chasing. What this movie lacks in however, is the amount of campiness and cliched moments of having an amateur person come out on a secret mission along with the professional friend/family member. In fact the whole idea of the protagonist having an estranged twin brother is a cliched idea which has been used many times in Bollywood films. Although this isn't a very memorable movie, it does exactly what all the other movies from this franchise do. It is able to create a fantasy world with fun and loving characters who do goofy things and we enjoy them while it lasts. And this is the reason why I don't think this franchise should have more movies. By the time one movie comes we have already forgotten what happened in the previous one. Although I wouldn't say that this is a bad movie, I would definitely say that you would not remember anything other than the good parts once the movie ends, and this is the reason why this movie is so much fun to remember since I don't exactly remember what I didn't like about it.

I had watched Despicable Me just to understand the memes and to get within the lines of the pop culture. I never understood the deal with the Facebook memes which have pictures of Minions in them and have quotes written next to them. So I used to think Minions always speak out funny one liners for the audience to have a quick laugh at. After watching Despicable Me I realised this was nothing but cheap publicity, but then I decided to watch the whole franchise anyway, and so here we are. After having watched the original trilogy, this one feels a step back, but that doesn't mean it isn't entertaining enough. Minions is a spin-off to the Despicable Me franchise (the name of the franchise is Despicable Me or Minions, I will never know). This tells the story of how the Minions found Gru and became his, well, minions. In the beginning the Minions were only wild animals who used to serve whoever was evil. They move on from one master to another, until they have none left. And that's when three Minions set out on an adventure - Bob, Kevin and Stuart (isn't it funny that they have English names even though they were born before humans existed?). The franchise has a really good animation style. It looks cute enough to be memorable, especially seeing the Minions take part in activities in the things they see for the first time. Even the action scenes of these movies are incredible. Scarlet Overkill being shown as a total badass and then getting her comeuppance made this movie so much fun to watch. Queen Elizabeth's mockery was also very funny, especially the part where one of the Minions tries to pull the sword out of the stone. The ending with Gru was also very unexpected and gave the movie a happy (?) ending. What this movie lacks in, however, is the storytelling. This is not a good movie, but rather a good "enough" movie. There's nothing in this which you haven't seen before. The plot is mostly predictable, many parts are very annoying to watch, especially Scarlet being a generic female villain who always wins with martial arts. Other than Queen Elizabeth and Herb there weren't any memorable characters. Herb was memorable and still I forgot his name. Minions is one of those movies I can imagine kids going crazy over, since the movie is targeted only for them. If you're an adult you will find this movie very childish. It's not like the Despicable Me trilogy which is fun for the whole family. It has just selected all the things which made the franchise marketable and went all out in showing them here, namely, Minions.

As a kid I didn't really like 3D animations. Everyone in my class used to get schoolbags, lunchboxes, water bottles etc of Pixar cartoons. The three most popular ones were of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Mr Incredible. In my review of The Incredibles I mentioned how I hated The Incredibles until I watched it myself, since I came from a conservative family which didn't allow me to watch foreign films. I finally watched Toy Story when I was 15 years old, and this was so awesome! Later I got to know that it was the first ever 3D animated movie, and since then my respect for it has increased exponentially. Toy Story is a story about Woody, a toy cowboy who was his master, Andy's favourite toy. Andy was absolutely obsessed with Woody, until Buzz Lightyear came over and completely took over his love. Not just Andy but even the other toys started getting more interested in Buzz. As a result Woody became jealous and decided to settle the score. Things don't go the right way when Woody also ends up getting thrown out along with Buzz, and then they both have to team up to get back to Andy. The thing that really strikes me about Toy Story is that it had a huge risk to carry. Since it was going to be the first ever 3D animated feature film, it was supposed to give an example for the other films to follow. There are many examples of how the first film **** makes the genre successful and when it doesn't happen (Superman, Super Mario Bros, Alam Ara etc). In this case Andrew Stanton and Joss Whedon did a great job in making a mark by writing the story that is one of the most iconic of all time. The animation is also pretty good. The first game isn't even close to what gaming is now, the first science fiction movie is nothing in front of science fiction movies now. But the first 3D animated movie is easily something that can give a competition to what they make nowadays. The ADR, the cinematography, the story, the comic timings and even the message that the movie gave - everything about this movie is so good. This is the reason why today Toy Story is one of the most iconic franchises of all time. My favourite character in the movie was RC. He was the only one who didn't misjudge anyone. He helped Woody and Buzz come back home together. Even watching his remote control was fun; it had a steering wheel! As a kid I was never allowed to play with remote controlled cars, so just seeing such an advanced car being driven was enough to get my attention. I'm lucky to have been alive at a time when Toy Story was a phenomenon. It was an absolute perfection of a movie. It's kind of surprising that Joss Whedon, the same guy who made this masterpiece, later went on to make the 2017 Justice League. I hope this movie stays alive in the future and we get to see what all things can be added in the future movies because, let's get real, this franchise isn't gonna die anytime soon.

After the disappointment that Age of Extinction was, my hopes from this franchise had fallen to zero. However, I still had one ray of hope - it couldn't be worse than that, right? The story is already bad, the characters are no longer interesting, the continuity doesn't matter anymore, and hey, just one more movie is left after which I'll get to watch the super-awesome Bumblebee, so let's just tolerate one more movie. And boy, was I wrong when I didn't take one more factor into account: At least the cinematography was good in all the previous movies. Here even that fails. The most distracting thing in this entire movie is the continuously changing aspect ratio. There's a very important rule in filmmaking, that your jump cuts should be so seamless that the audience shouldn't realise when the jump cut takes place. Look at Marvel movies. When Black Widow fights there are like a gazillion jump cuts in just one somersault. If that is supposed to be silently moving across the room, the jump cuts of The Last Knight are like dragging an almirah across the room hoping no one would notice. You can literally see the jump cuts happen! And speaking of jump cuts ruining the mood, whenever the jump cuts happen in the same scene it feels like it is a completely different scene. Like in the scene where they are in the elevator and they see the butler bot over there, it feels as if the scene outside the elevator is a completely different place. The lighting is also so bad, it doesn't even feel like there's continuity until the jump cut happens again and the camera goes back to Cade and company. Apart from that there is also a scene where Cade stops his car in front of the sheriff and when he's stopping the car there's a lot of dust. But when the jump cut happens the dust is all gone. And while he's still stopping his car his voice starts coming. Like, he isn't even moving his mouth and the words are coming out louder than the car's engine. Another time the ADR ruins the mood is when the butler bot is playing the piano when the story of the Transformers is being narrated. He is asked to stop playing... Twice! A bad joke is repeated twice in just fifteen seconds! Then of course there's the fight between Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, the legendary fight for which everyone came to watch it. Because the movie had been advertised by saying that Optimus Prime is the bad guy in this movie. And guess how their fight ends? Martha! No, not by saying those exact words, but something similar. Just as Optimus is about to stab Bumblebee, he says, "I'm Bumblebee. I'll lay my life before you!" And that changes Optimus Prime's mood. First of all, why did it change his mood? He's a robot not a human. Emotions can't alter his programming. And secondly how on earth did Bumblebee suddenly start speaking? It's not like his voice suddenly fixed. It was permanently damaged. It's kinda weird that in this movie the humans are not the bad part. In fact I really liked its starting, where they were showing Merlin take help from the dragon Transformer to win the battle. I also liked how those kids were collecting spare parts to survive. Even showing Optimus Prime on his planet looked so cool. The way it began I was really wondering why on earth this movie has such bad reviews. If the movie focused on either of the two things it could have been a great movie. I really wanted to like it, but the jump cuts were making me laugh even on the serious scenes. I'm sorry, Michael Bay. But I think you've ruined a good movie by hiring a bad cinematographer.

Looking at the poster and trailer of this movie I was thinking this might be something really good. I had recently watched the first three movies of this franchise and I really liked the whole concept of Transformers; just seeing them do something on the big screen is enough to get my attention. So when I heard that this is the worst movie of the franchise, the robot dinosaur poster refused to let me believe that. How can a movie with such a good CGI possibly be bad? And when I watched it... I now apologise to all those people I didn't trust. I'm really sorry. The problem with this movie is that it has humans. I know, Transformers are all about Autobots and humans interacting and coming together to beat Decepticons, but the humans in this movie are terrible. I forgave Dark of the Moon since it was Sam Witwicky, the same guy we had previously seen in two prequels. But this time, it's the new guy. I don't even remember his name, so let's just call him Mark Wahlberg. Mark is such a two dimensional character. He loves mechanical engineering and hates anyone approaching his daughter. Yes, that's his entire personality. So when Optimus Prime ends up coming to his lab, they bond together. The premise of this movie is all wrong. The Autobots are now considered criminal in this world because of the destruction that happened in the previous movie. Like, what? Dude, even the army was doing destruction in the previous movie if that's supposed to be a real reason. Also everyone saw the Autobots fight the Decepticons in the epic climax moment. And it's not like there's some communication gap between the Autobots and the humans, since Optimus Prime literally lived with the military. So if there's any problem at all, they can just talk about it. So anyway Optimus helps Mark, his daughter and her boyfriend escape from there, and they team up with Hound and some other Transformers (I don't even remember the names at this point, because they don't give a reason to do so). Together they go to The Lost World where Optimus fights the robot T-Rex for which I watched this movie in the first place. First of all, the T-Rex is like, five times bigger than Optimus Prime. For comparison, just try fighting an elephant with your bare hands (except that elephants are herbivores and won't attack you unprovoked). And after the beating that T-Rex becomes friends with Optimus because it's a Michael Bay movie. So then there's the epic showdown battle between Mark and some bad guys. I was doing my college project on my laptop and this movie was running on my phone's Prime Video, so I used to only look at the movie whenever something interesting would be happening, otherwise I'd just keep doing my work. I don't think I looked at the screen more than 3-4 times throughout the work. This is the reason why I can guarantee you that it's a boring movie. I don't remember most of it. Transformers: Age of Extinction is the movie that taught me that Transformers could be bad too. Earlier I used to see Screen Rant articles which said that after a time the movies went repetitive with the CGI fighting and explosions, so I didn't understand what's bad about it since that's literally what I watch them for. But it turns out the reason why I hate it is the other way round. The big, cool robots have now turned into parodies of themselves and the humans are no longer even close to being interesting. I'd say if you haven't begun watching this franchise, just watch the first three and then jump straight to Bumblebee. That would save a lot of time and inner peace.

I watched Despicable Me only to understand what was the deal with the Minion memes. Although I did understand what it was all about, I decided to take a look at the sequel also, since I found so many things to like in that movie, especially the characters and the comic timing. And I'm really glad I decided to make that decision. Despicable Me 2 is, in every way, better than the first movie. Although I don't really like animated movies which don't hold much value other than giving the laughs, this movie is actually much better than most such movies. The thing I really like about Despicable Me 2 is that it is able to expand over the story that the prequel did. Normally in animated movies that are just made for the laughs, the sequels don't work so hard to make the story. They just bring back the villain, and bring in more explosions. There are also characters who are suddenly pulled out of nowhere, which isn't something that happens over here. This movie knows it's just made for the laughs, yet it takes the effort of making it more complicated than it needs to be. Dr Nefarious retires in this movie. I really liked him. He seemed to be something like a grandfather to all the Minions. I still remember the scene where the Minions are working and one of them wears a fruit dress and dances singing something like "Eto hola macarena kala kala macarena" (I don't know what it was, but it was so memorable). Then there's the scene where Gru is invited to the secret agency where the two Minions laugh at Bottom. The thing I like about Despicable Me is how many characters there are to love. There's the Minions who are so adorable, there are the three daughters whom I feel like pulling cheeks of, there are the new characters in the form of the Mexican man and Gru's wife. They all have characteristics and emotions, and the movie takes time to explore over all of them. In live action movies this is easy since their runtime is higher, but in animated movies where the runtime is less than two hours, this is actually a pretty big deal. Although Despicable Me 2 isn't exactly what I'd call a memorable movie, it is fun while it lasts; something it promises of being. It's not something that you're gonna carry in your memory for the rest of your life, but that's probably what makes it so much fun to rewatch. It's a definite recommendation for anyone who is looking forward to watching something fun for the weekend with children.

Shrek the Third was the first Shrek movie I learnt of. I always used to see the Shrek franchise as something of a fairy tale, one that I can't possibly like. There were many reasons why - Shrek looked ugly, the animation wasn't exactly what I'd call 'gorgeous', and the little me couldn't tolerate seeing a princess beat up soldiers (I know, it happens in Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third but I couldn't tell the difference). So I finally watched it, just to see what all happens in it and why exactly does everyone meme it so much. I liked the first two so much that I decided to watch this movie too, and it was... meh. Shrek the Third started off really well. But the problem with this movie is that, well, it created an expectation too high. The first five minutes were actually very good, with Prince Charming grieving over his mother's death and everyone mocking him. But immediately afterwards it changed to the bad guys deciding to hate him for being bad. This didn't make sense, because that's literally what bad guys do. And then the bad guys unite to wreak havoc and... Remove a stamp? It looked like a joke that could have been in any other movie. Speaking of jokes that could have been in literally any other movie, there are plenty that happen over here. The king dying and then coming back to life before dying properly, Shrek throwing a champagne bottle at a ship making it sink, Puss explaining how babies are made, Shrek and Donkey threatening the librarian (I still remember seeing that scene in the trailer as a kid), Puss and Donkey not being restored to their original bodies completely in the end and of course, the entire plot of Arthur being a loser. But of course this movie isn't absolutely terrible. I really liked the speeches that Arthur gave; once at the campfire when he and Shrek talked about their lives and once in the end where they defeat Prince Charming. The part where Puss tries to look cute when he's in Donkey's body and the soldiers get disgusted was also hilarious. I also enjoyed the part where all the princesses come together to storm the castle. I hated that scene as a kid but now I find it funny. Shrek the Third is the only 3rd movie of a franchise that I have ever realised wasn't as good as the previous ones. I watched Spider-Man 3, Star Wars: Episode VI, Despicable Me 3 and even played Batman: Arkham Origins, and I really liked them all as much as I liked the other two. It doesn't have quite the charm that the first two movies, for that matter all the other three movies have. It's a pity that I really wanted to like this movie, but it seems too mediocre. Although I won't mind watching this again.

As a kid I hated Shrek. But after seeing it for the first time a few years ago, I decided that I really liked Shrek. I had to go on a vacation soon after finishing the first movie, so right after coming back I proceeded to watch the next one. And I think it's probably because of the trip or something, but I actually liked Shrek 2 more. There are many reasons why I feel this one is clearly superior to the first one, and why this is my favourite sequel among any movie (other than Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight trilogies of course). The movie begins with the part where Shrek 1 ended. Shrek and Fiona are happily married and live their ogre lives in peace. The reason why this movie works so well is because unlike regular sequels, this one actually expanded on what could happen in future. If this was a conventional sequel it would have shown that Lord Farquaad has come back somehow and now he has joined forces with some other villain to beat them. Also some random characters would have been introduced while others would have been killed. The movie simply begins with the feeling of an adventure. Shrek, Donkey and Fiona going to Far, Far Away to meet Fiona's parents who have never seen her in the last 20 years, that's a perfect story. Remember how we thought about Shrek and Fiona before the first movie? We changed our minds for the better after we watched the movie and learnt a lesson. Fiona's parents, however, have still not seen that happen. And this is something Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming take the advantage of. The reason why this movie worked but the next two didn't was because this movie never dragged any concept. Shrek and the fairy tale characters became friends, Shrek and Donkey saved Fiona, they fell in love and married. Period. This was never 'revised' upon. Rather either the consequences of those actions or the other aspects of life were shown. Every scene looked interesting for some reason. It's almost like the creators poured all their love in every scene. No scene feels like they were just trying to get over it. Every moment is cherished: Fiona crying, Shrek meeting Puss, Shrek's friends watching TV - everything is memorable. Shrek 2 is how a sequel should be. It should give us exactly what we wish to know. It does not force any character, it does not force any scene. Everything that is introduced in this movie, every joke that takes place happens within the audience's interest. I really wish if a new Shrek movie is made, they make it like this. Shrek is meant to be something that is remembered for all time, not a meme. It's one of the most iconic 3D animated movies I've ever seen.

I only watched Despicable Me so that I could understand what was the deal with the Minion memes that moms share on Facebook. Turns out the movie is nothing like the cringe that is shown in them, especially considering Minions don't even talk properly. In fact it has more in common with the Reddit memes. The story is quite nice. I like seeing stories like Shrek and The Angry Birds Movie, where some arrogant outcast wants to be left alone but slowly develops feelings and compassion for those whom they go out with an adventure with. Here Gru has his three adopted daughters - Margo, Edith and Agnes. Initially they look just like some cute troublemakers, until Gru starts doing his own things. The thing which I like the most about this movie is the dynamic roster of characters. Vector is a funny villain who kinda reminds me of Syndrome from The Incredibles, except he's a nerd and has a funny voice. I laughed every time he used his fish gun. I was expecting Gru to be a very annoying character, the way he looked. But his voice is so cool, and the way he was introduced was somehow very satisfying to watch. Then there's Dr Nefarious, who seems to be somewhat of a paternal figure to all the Minions. Despicable Me is nothing more than what it pretends to be: A simple, fun to watch animated movie with cute and funny characters meant for the laughs. It's something you'd watch only if you want to spend some time with children. I haven't talked much with children so I assume they already know about it, so you can use this movie as a means to talk to them.

I didn't know about the Star Wars anthology movies until I learnt about Solo. I didn't know anything about it, so I went in completely blind. The only thing I knew about this movie is the Darth Vader scene, and I thought if it has that scene, it must be having plenty such scenes. Turns out that scene is to this movie what Flash and Superman's slow motion fight is to Josstice League: The only one good scene in the entire movie. Most of this movie is just talking, talking and more talking. I won't complain about it though. I didn't know the "We were on the verge of greatness" meme was from this. I used to think that meme is about an agriculture scientist from Discovery telling how his experiment failed. So subsequently the "Are we blind? Deploy the troops!" meme also had to be from here, another one I didn't know where it was from. I ended up liking K2SO, he was my favourite character from the movie. I felt really bad seeing him die. The action scenes of this movie are very good, now that I think back about it, especially the one with the blind Jedi. The scene where a droid that looked like H2SO gets shot and then the actual H2SO comes from the back saying, "I hope you knew it was not me." was hilarious. But that's the only scene I remember, other than the Darth Vader scene of course. Most of the scenes from this movie are very forgettable. Out of the over 2 hour of runtime, I only remember barely 2 minutes from it combined. I don't see the point behind the making of this movie. It just answers a question nobody asked. I wasn't even paying attention because I was waiting for the Darth Vader scene, as I had begun thinking it isn't in this movie until the very end. I could definitely give it a rewatch whenever I get a Disney+ Hotstar connection, but that's really far from today.

Zootopia is one of the first Disney movies that I ever saw. The first time I saw it, it was coming on TV. I watched it from the middle, it was in Hindi and my board exams were coming up, because of which I only watched it from the part where Judy is seeing Nick sell the Jumbo sized candy till the part where Nick records Judy saying she's a dumb bunny. Obviously it didn't tell me anything about the story, but it gave me a demo of what this movie is - a gorgeous animation with great character development. It was finally two years later that I watched the whole movie. The story revolves around Judy Hopps, a small town bunny who has moved to the big city called Zootopia where she decides to become a cop. The other character is Nick Wilde, a street smart fox who uses cunning tactics to get quick money. Both of them team up to find out what is making the carnivores aggressive. As they go out to find out the criminal, they explore Zootopia, interact with many animals over there and learn what it means to be a citizen in a diverse city. This movie is one of the best social commentaries I have ever seen in a movie. The carnivores are animals who have hunted down the herbivores and even other carnivores for centuries. Because of this the herbivores are always afraid of the carnivores, even though they pretend to be politically correct by saying everyone is equal. As a result when it was found out that the carnivores were "getting back to their original instincts", everyone was getting terrified from them, since now they believe their wellbeing is more important than social harmony. Later on it's revealed why they were being hypnotised to be violent, which is very similar to the facism on the rise. The carnivores are metaphors of blacks/Muslims/other communities who have recently been seen as equal people, whom we are told to hate solely for the sake of vote banks. The movie was made in 2016, which was the year when facism had just begun growing. In reality no one wants to hate each other, but they are taught to do so since childhood, by the politicians and the media. The best thing about Zootopia is what I had already seen. The animation is absolutely spectacular. The development of all the main characters was done very well. Both Nick and Judy learnt a lot throughout the movie and were able to move ahead as what they are. The world building is pretty good, considering it's not even two hours long. The sense of humour was subtle. It was neither cringy nor outrageously hilarious. It went completely with the tone, especially the sloths in the bank scene. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the plot twist, now that I think about it. It was pretty good according to the time I saw it, but back then I hadn't watched a lot of movies and later on I realised many kids' movies use the same plot twist (Incredibles 2, Cars 2, Detective Pikachu, Shazam!, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 etc. I don't want to give any spoilers so you can figure out what the plot twist is). Zootopia is one of the most iconic animated movies. It's not saying much considering almost every Disney movie is iconic, but this one is one of the better ones compared to the mindless comedy animated movies that are made only for earning quick buck (The Emoji Movie came just a year after it and was also targeted for the audience of the same age group). It's a movie I'd definitely show to my kids in the future. I can already see myself get nostalgic when I'll watch it.

A beloved, renowned franchise like Star Wars goes in the hands of a big company which is all into secularism. Sometimes I feel Disney movies are not movies. They are festivals. They celebrate diversity. And the worst part is that Disney, the religion which is celebrating this festival, doesn't take very kindly of the "infidels". As a result they are more concerned about the movie doing good in China and Africa than actually telling a good story. They can imagine little girls from Middle East play with Rey Palpatine dolls and porg/fathier stuffed toys, but not giving the fans what they have been asking for all these years. One thing I really like about this movie is that it is able to deliver the needed impact using its CGI. The way they used the FTL to tear right across the enemy ships was so cool. But yeah, that's the only one thing I like about the movie. To show that one scene they ruined the whole concept of FTL travelling. Luke Skywalker lives between adorable Porgs, but he's only Luke Skywalker for the namesake. He doesn't do anything that makes us feel that he's important to the story. Heck, literally his role in the movie is that he dies! This is exactly what's wrong with movies today. First they take a popular franchise that doesn't make movies anymore, or has a lot of books/games/TV shows. Then they get the fans hyped to make them realise they are about to make something big for them. In order to do this they sell their merchandise because they know the gullible fans will be absolutely ready to lap it all up. After that they will throw in some secularism - make a white protagonist, a black sidekick, an Asian man/woman who will help them, someone who is being oppressed because there's absolutely no other way a hero can be a hero if he doesn't speak for someone's rights. An important character should also be there who will do nothing other than fan service. An absolutely meaningless plot twist will also do some good. With all that done, just add a big CGI fight and get over with it. So in conclusion, Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is not a movie. It's a fan service. This wouldn't have been a problem if it DID fan service and not become one. We had watched this movie for a plot about Jedi fighting the Sith, not for seeing Finn free some fathiers. The movie is set a long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. So all this SJW stuff doesn't make any sense.

Now before you rush ahead and quickly mark my review unhelpful, hear me out alright? Return of the Jedi is the only movie of the trilogy I had no hopes from. I had heard of people saying that it's the worst in the series. But considering I got bored from A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back I thought this one is going to be even worse (why I got bored of them, that's written on their reviews. But still if you're too lazy to check it's because I always somehow get bored watching old movies). So I had absolutely no expectations from it. Turns out it has the most story of all the Star Wars movies. The movie began with answering the question as to what happened to Han Solo. He gets rescued by Luke and Leia. We even get to see the iconic Boba Fett in that scene. Later on we get to see Lando. Even though I haven't heard about him and I actually had to look up his name while writing this review, he looks pretty iconic. I don't know if this was a popular look or this movie made the look popular, but I guess the latter is true. There were many other NPC characters throughout the movie, but for me the selling point were the Ewoks. And I don't care what all the "die-hard Star Wars fanboys" say. The Ewoks are so adorable! I wanted to pull their cheeks. Their scenes were so cute and funny. The way they fought the Stormtroopers or treated C3PO like a messiah was really wholesome. I really wanted to see that kind of stuff in Star Wars movies. Just because it's set in space doesn't mean it always has to blast out laser guns or have huge flying ships. After all, it's set long long ago in a galaxy far far away. There could be many tribes living over there as well. And seeing them hold up makes me believe they still exist somewhere in today's time, having evolved into becoming teddy bears as advanced as humans. And finally Darth Vader's final fight scene in this movie, in my opinion, was way better than The Empire Strikes Back. We actually get to see what Darth Vader looks like, and he hasn't cut Luke's arm for this. This is the correct way of drawing out emotions. The one who is making the audience emotional should be in pain, and not the one being made emotional. Darth Sidious was really intimidating, and I really wanted more of him rather than the trash that Palpatine was. Star Wars: Episode VI is even today my favourite Star Wars movie. It doesn't matter what others say about it, it's gonna be the most OP in my opinon. In just 2.5 hours it managed to tell more story than the entire sequel trilogy combined. And the best part - the spoilers from this movie aren't even as popular as Episode IV or V, so I could watch it without already knowing what I'm about to watch. I'd absolutely watch it again.

I had been seeing a lot of memes about Star Wars, that added with the fact that Rise of the Skywalker was about to release were the reasons why I decided to take a look at the franchise. After all, I was tired of always running away from any discussion regarding these movies. So finally after having downloaded all the movies I began from A New Hope (I didn't know the order, I just guessed that since it's the oldest so it has to be seen first. If I hadn't seen that I'd have started with Phantom Menace). And I'm really mad that I never saw these before. Star Wars is like a dream come true for someone like me, who is so much obsessed with astronomy. I have always liked stories in which there is a simple character who is living an easy life, completely secluded from the rest of the world when someone decides to take them on an adventure. It happened in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and Lord of the Rings, but this is the first time it was ever shown on a big screen. I can very well imagine how excited everyone must have been back then. There are all kinds of interesting characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca, Princess Leia and of course, the iconic Darth Vader. Today these are the same characters I think of when someone says "Space adventure". The action of this movie is the selling point. Although we can see the campiness and that there is always a jump cut between the Jedi jumping and landing, it is not very hard to watch like another big CGI movie franchise we all know. The characters have some depth to them, which is what makes them so interesting to watch. I really liked Han Solo's entrance, the way he was gambling in the bar and then suddenly attacked the enemies with Chewbacca. Every time Darth Vader appeared on screen it felt like so dramatic. It feels fresh even today. The problem with this movie is, however, that it's too old. It is way too oldie, if that makes sense. All the characters talk like the old movies, which is hard for a non-English speaker like me to relate to since I don't see someone talking while barely moving their mouth the way Harrison Ford does, or always have the teach showing even with the mouth closed like Mark Hamill does. Another example can be like whenever they hide from Stormtroopers and talk to each other in a low voice, Chewbacca keeps moaning loudly but the Stormtroopers don't hear him. When he did it the first time I thought Han would probably ask him to keep his voice down or the Stormtroopers will notice them. For some reason I don't feel like watching old movies. They make me feel sleepy. This is the reason why I dozed off watching it and then watched the remaining after waking up. I consider Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope to be the movie which created the divide between Hollywood and Bollywood. Before that both of them were going almost pretty much equal. But after 1977 while Star Wars helped Hollywood grow, Bollywood remained stuck in the same era or rather should I say, went back in time. All the big CGI movies that we see today are indirectly a result of Star Wars being the success that it was. I really hope the franchise returns back to its roots.

I was very reluctant from watching Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith because of how bad the previous two movies were, but to my shock this one was actually pretty good! Now of course this isn't some absolutely masterpiece movie that could be remembered for being classic, but at least it saved the entire prequel trilogy by simply not doing anything bad. I had been waiting to watch this movie ever since I began bingewatching Star Wars. I watched this two years back, so the rating is from that time. I haven't changed it after seeing the cult following. The story is a huge improvement over the previous two movies, although it does stay in line with them. In the last two movies it seemed as though they completely forgot that Anakin is supposed to slowly turn bad, which is something this movie did pretty convincingly. Anakin became Palpatine's bodyguard, and then he heard the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise. This movie's story is so good that I often get confused when I remember the good parts of Episode II, as to whether they were from Episode II or this movie. When I wrote the review for Episode II, I thought Anakin killing his mother's killers was from this movie. The character development is also another thing that is much better over here. Starting from Anakin of course. He doesn't like sand. It's rough and course and gets everywhere. The Kenobi-Skywalker duo who were the besties in the beginning of the movie became enemies in the end. Mace Windu gets his comeuppance for being so annoying. And of course, how can I forget that my favourite character, General Grievous is from this movie? He learnt the art of dual wielding from Count Dooku himself! The next big thing was the CGI. It's amazing how come the first two movies had such a bad CGI but it improved so much over here. It's almost like they took some extra time to polish the visual effects. The cinematography is also a lot cleaner now. Unlike the last two movies, I didn't feel like falling asleep in the middle of the talking scenes. With all that said, nothing is still perfect. The VFX being better than the last two movies is actually a very low bar. The acting is still very campy. In the beginning scene where Kenobi and Anakin are talking after coming back from fighting Grievous (the one from which the "This whole operation, it was your idea!" meme came), they are both speaking such that one person will finish talking, the camera will linger on them for some time, then the camera will transition to the other character and then they will speak. It looked like a school drama. The final fight was fun but the dialogues ruined it. Star Wars: Episode III is one of, if not the best Star Wars movie. It is kinda sad that George Lucas does not have the cap when these movies are made. It would have been pretty cool to watch these movies in today's time and technology. This is way ahead of the dumpster fire that the sequel trilogy was. Although I have given it a less rating, I will increase it if I rewatch it in the future.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

After the disappointment that Star Wars Episode I was, I couldn't get myself to watch the second movie in the prequel trilogy. But the thing about Star Wars is that there is no way you can possibly hate the franchise no matter what it does. Even if there's one bad movie there's still a new hope (ba dm tss!), that probably the next movie does fix some stuff. And I can tell you with a guarantee that Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones is definitely not that kind of a movie. And no, I'm not scared of some kid marking my review unhelpful who probably lives in the basement of his parents' house. One problem that constantly plagues the Star Wars prequel trilogy is that most of the good stories happen while the camera is not on the characters. There is a scene where Kenobi and Anakin are in an elevator while going to save Padmé from an assassin and talking about their previous adventures. And trust me, all those adventures sound WAY more fun than what we are being made to watch. Most of the characters shown throughout the movie are there just for the sake of being there, without any amount of character development. That's not to say I absolutely dislike this movie. I really like the whole Jango Fett arc. It was one of the most memorable parts of the movie. There was also the colosseum fight which wasn't good but at least it was memorable. Also the part where C3PO accidentally falls on the assembly line and gets his head replaced by another robot. Other than that most scenes are easily forgettable, not as in I have forgotten they ever happened, but rather I have forgotten whether they happened in Episode II or III. I had to look up the scene I wrote in the above paragraph to make sure it happened in this movie. The CGI, once again is terrible. I don't know what's the problem with the cinematography of this movie. It makes it look so boring. And of course, here's the movie where Anakin and Padmé start getting, well. I don't know what's with Star Wars movies and accidental incest. I get it's supposed to be a space opera, but this goes a little too far. Also the acting is super campy. One person will finish the dialogue, then the next person will speak. And I think it's a good thing because of how high the background music is. If two people start speaking together it will become impossible to hear altogether. I had said that I'd try giving another watch to Star Wars: Episode I, which is hard because of how cringy Jar-Jar Binks. But here it's hard because only the Jango Fett scene was fun. This is, in my opinion, the worst Star Wars movie made by George Lucas. Trust me when I say I get no joy from saying all of this. I still had the courage to watch the franchise further, and I'm really glad I did since Revenge of the Sith really redeemed the trilogy for me.

As a kid I hated Star Wars because of the prequels, since I liked the battle droids and I didn't like seeing the Jedis kill them (I was such a child back then). I had no idea what the movies were all about so two years ago I decided to sit down and watch every single Star Wars movie just before the release of Episode IX. Until now I used to always think that Star Wars are all about fighting with lightsabers, shooting blasters and something something Luke I'm your father. But now that I have watched them all and learnt everything, I can finally review them. So here goes the first one. I really like the idea behind the prequels: George Lucas wanted us to see how an innocent boy named Anakin slowly turned into Darth Vader. This is the first movie where he is introduced as a young boy, who has to work for a pingas-nosed fly whom his family owed money. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn get him freedom so that they can be Jedis. I have already forgotten why they decided to do so, because that scene has a very boring aura to it. Just remembering that scene makes me feel sleepy. But what follows next is the very thing that took away all my sleep - The fabled Pod Racing! It was so cool to watch. Out of the 6 stars that I have given this movie, 3 alone are for the pod racing. I really wish there were some even more fun scenes throughout the movie. Sadly what we got was Jar-Jar Binks. I don't know about you but I absolutely hate seeing those annoying humanoid characters who always speak in weird manners and do random things in fight scenes (Gollum, Dobby, Gimli, Hound from Transformers etc). So anyway, Anakin is brought to Padmé, who decides to keep him like a child (I'm gonna control my laughter since I wanna keep this review spoiler free). But the Jedi council refuses to keep Anakin since he has grown too old to be trained as a Jedi. I strongly object to this. Luke was trained as a Jedi when he was like what, in his late twenties? So where's the problem here? And it's not even like the technology developed by then so now more people could be trained. Everything is still literally the same, if not worse in future. So in all fairness Anakin should have always been allowed to be a Jedi. The movie has many memorable characters like Mace Windu, Darth Maul, young Yoda, young Palpatine and Gunray. We also get to see the origins of C3PO, which was definitely unexpected. The movie adds a lot to the lore of Star Wars, but there is barely any world building in comparison to what the original trilogy did. Another problem is that it's very boring and campy. At least the boredom was addressed in the future movies, but by then the damage was done. The campiness stayed, however. The CGI is also very bad, with shadows and lighting reacting all wrong. Star Wars: Episode I is one of those movies I'd put in the same categories as Batman v Superman. The first time you watch it you hate it. The second time you watch it, it gets better. But I just can't get myself to watch it the second time, remembering the Tatooine scene and Jar-Jar Binks. Although I don't think this movie is outright trash like how many haters call it, it's definitely far from being a "definitely not the worst Star Wars" movie. I really hope in future Disney remasters this movie's CGI and brings it back without any other edit from its side. This could definitely make this movie a bit better.
