SummaryThe modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic O... Read More

Boasting a pitch perfect voice cast led by a terrific Ginnifer Goodwin as a righteous rural rabbit who becomes the first cotton-tailed police recruit in the mammal-centric city of Zootopia, the 3D caper expertly combines keen wit with a gentle, and very timely, message of inclusivity and empowerment.

Greetings from Lithuania.
"Zootopia" (2016) is by far the best animated movie i have seen in many, many and (did i just said MANY) many moons. Script is brilliant. Directing is on the spot and perfectly matched the brilliant script, which has many references to classic movies / shows / or some pop culture references, which youngest audience members probably won't be able to understand, but adults will be in nirvana watching this brilliant animation. Voice acting was also superb - there aren't superstars in every role, but that isn't a letdown, because every voice in here is brilliantly matched to the character, not the other way around. And there is a sequence with Flash - a killer scene.Overall, i do not know what other animated masterpiece should be born in the rest of 2016 that would claim Oscar for best animation in next years Oscars. This is a big winner, which i think can easily gain nomination for the best original screenplay. "Zootopia" is colorful, superbly funny, excellently paced and amazingly written animated movie which is easily my favorite movie so far this year. Brilliant stuff.

Zootropolis is a real delight - an entertaining and endlessly inventive comedy and something with more insight than anyone could have anticipated.

If Zootopia were a bit vaguer, or perhaps dumber and less pleased with itself, it might have been a classic, albeit of a very different, less reputable sort. As-is, it's a goodhearted, handsomely executed film that doesn't add up in the way it wants to.

The film goes deeper in its allegorizing, tapping into the volatile nature of identity politics.

Like the movie as a whole, she (Judy) is funny, sweet, sophisticated and adventurous.

Zootopia takes the cultural practice of posing animals as human characters to queasy new heights.

Zootopia is one of those films that works on every level. As pure entertainment, it is incredibly funny, fast-paced, and filled with visual details that don’t wear out after a single viewing. But it also offers something more: an intelligent message disguised as a colorful fable. And that, when seen with perspective, is what elevates **** first watch, what stands out is its rhythm and the chemistry between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The buddy-movie structure is perfectly measured: personality clashes, constant humor, and an investigation that unfolds naturally. The jokes work for both children and adults, and some gags —like the sloth scene— are already part of animation history.Visually, it is stunning. The city is built with astonishing attention to detail, each district follows its own climatic logic, and the world feels alive. It’s not just a pretty setting; it’s a coherent universe. There is a clear ambition to create something more sophisticated than a typical animal comedy. What truly makes it stand out is its social reading. Beneath its friendly surface, the film speaks about prejudice, collective fear, and manipulation. And it does so without becoming solemn. It has the intelligence to raise complex issues without overwhelming the viewer with obvious moral lessons. That makes it far more mature than it initially **** is also one of those films that becomes tied to family memories, to specific stages of life, to that moment when the talking toy of the protagonist had to be found because the fascination was absolute. And that is when cinema stops being just cinema.Zootopia is funny, sophisticated, and emotionally generous. Disney at its peak.

+Interesting concept
-Fits into the 'average disney CG film' camp I must say watching this with my son I was very entertained, that said the lofty moral concepts it discusses dont seem to fit into the screenplay comfortably leading to some very akward dialogue between (entirely anthropomorphised cg animals in clothes).... Seems like it tried too hard to go to deep with its concept and misses the opportunity to better motivate and flesh out the secondary characters.... That being said, you'd have to be having a bad day not to enjoy watching this one with your kids!

I guess this is about prejudices and discrimination of all kinds but I don't think it's very smart or incisive, or even particularly clever or witty. It picks the prejudices it wants to deal with and mostly sticks to those, while also undermining those same messages by reducing many others to those same kinds of stereotyping (rednecks, Italian mafioso, etc) and there doesn't seem to be any indication this is intentional or meant as subversiveness. Maybe it doesn't matter that much, this movie isn't meant to be a deep and thorough undertaking but it still hurts the film when its messages are blatantly obvious and screamed in your face and then slyly ignored when there's plot needed and a joke to be had. The rest of it is pretty standard modern animated pop-culturally aware farce.

There's hardly anything to like about this film. It only exists as a means for Disney to push an agenda on the current generation to politically radicalise them into leftism. The characters were plain at best and the comedy often fell flat or was cringe inducing at the worst of scenes. The movie hardly deserved the praise it received from the public for being "a kids movie tackling important societal issues", when it shouldn't have relied on being political to be a good kids movie. The only positive thing about this film is its well done CGI. That's it.

Zootopia is the Seinfield of Pixair, a "Film about nothing" and despite it, loved by everyone just because makes reference to everyday lives of the viewers. Filled with eye-candy for the children, this film is symptomatic, more than an actual cinematographic piece that will surely be forgotten as the references it relies, gel blurred through generations.
