Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

I loved Star Wars and so will you, unless you're . . . oh well, I hope you're not...Star Wars is a hell of a lot of fun and Lucas makes fun a sparkling pop metaphor for the sheer joy of goodness that could even make friends out of men, mutations and machines.

Star Wars is the most entertaining sci-fi movie of the decade.

A magnificent film. George Lucas set out to make the biggest possible adventure fantasy out of his memories of serials and older action epics, and he succeeded brilliantly.

If I were asked to say with certainty which movies will still be widely known a century or two from now, I would list "2001,'' "The Wizard of Oz,'' Keaton and Chaplin, Astaire and Rogers, and probably "Casablanca'' ... and "Star Wars,'' for sure.

Star Wars is somewhat grounded by a malfunctioning script and hopelessly infantile dialogue, but from a technical standpoint, it is an absolutely breathtaking achievement.

Everyone treats his material with the proper combination of solemnity and good humor that avoids condescension. One of Mr. Lucas's particular achievements is the manner in which he is able to recall the tackiness of the old comic strips and serials he loves without making a movie that is, itself, tacky.

Strip Star Wars of its often striking images and its highfalutin scientific jargon, and you get a story, characters, and dialogue of overwhelming banality, without even a “future” cast to them: Human beings, anthropoids, or robots, you could probably find them all, more or less like that, in downtown Los Angeles today. Certainly the mentality and values of the movie can be duplicated in third-rate non-science of any place or period.

Amazing story that has an amazing feel, it is just a true classic, its world building is incredible to start a beloved franchise

A Foundational Space Classic Watched Repeatedly Despite Its Slower Pacing.101017 (1.0) 140605 (3.0)As expected, it felt too tedious to sit through patiently in one go, which humorously led me to watch it the most times right after Episode 1. Directed by George Lucas and starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Alec Guinness, the groundbreaking 1977 space opera masterpiece "Star Wars" (later subtitled "Episode IV – A New Hope") follows young farm boy Luke Skywalker as he discovers his connection to the mystical Force, joins forces with the charismatic smuggler Han Solo and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and embarks on a galactic rescue mission to save Princess Leia and destroy the sinister Galactic Empire's planet-killing superweapon, the Death Star.

Filmi ilk kez seyredişimde, ilk kez bir Star Wars filmi seyretmiştim. Ve yer yer sıkıldığım anlar olmuştu çünkü film çok eski. Annem doğmadan önce çıkmış bir film en nihayetinde. Fakat ikinciye seyredişimde ilk sefere göre filmi daha çok beğendim. Bu filmden sonra neler olacağını, filmden önce neler olduğunu biliyor olmak filmi seyrederkenki zevkimi arttırdı. Darth Vader, müzikleri, karakterleri ve yer yer aksiyon anları ile benden bu puanı alıyor. Bir LOTR değil bana göre. LOTR onlarca yıl sonrada seyredilecek bir film iken Star Wars’ın 4-5-6 filmleri yaşını fazlasıyla belli ediyor. LOTR ile aralarındaki yıl farkından dolayı bu normal. Anakin üçlemesi bugün dahi izlenir (ki o üçlemeyi daha çok seviyorum) fakat Luke’un üçlemesi günümüzde izlenmesi oldukça zor. Orijinale saygısızlık olmayacak bir yeniden yapım gelsede bayıla bayıla izlesek.. (Çok eski geldiği için bu puanı veriyorum. O dönem izlesem daha yüksek puan verirdim.)

Bilim kurgu filmleri normalden daha hızlı yaşlanıyorlar... Eskimiş geldi ne yazık ki...

A New hope may have started the franchise, but it is in no way close to the best film in it. Almost insultingly simplistic and very boring in many places, this is clearly from a time where people expected much less from cinema (not surprising, it comes from cinema's worst decade). The acting is pretty awful throughout and the plot is basic. Still, it's a decent chapter in the Saga
