Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen are simple, clean remakes of the original Kanto games, and they do exactly what they’re supposed to do without overcomplicating anything. They modernize the Gen 1 experience with updated mechanics, better balance, and a much smoother overall flow. Kanto itself is still a great region to revisit. Even if it’s more straightforward than later generations, the structure is solid and the progression feels consistent from start to finish. The Sevii Islands also add a bit of extra content, which helps the post-game feel more complete than the originals. The biggest strength here is how polished everything feels for its time. Battles are faster, mechanics are improved, and it serves as a perfect entry point for newer players while still respecting the original games. That said, it is still very simple compared to later generations, and it doesn’t try to add many bold new ideas. It’s a safe remake, but a very well-executed one.

Pokemon Emerald takes everything Ruby & Sapphire did and tightens it into the best version of Hoenn. It doesn’t reinvent the game, but it refines it in all the right ways, making the whole experience feel more complete and polished. The biggest upgrade is the inclusion of both Team Aqua and Team Magma in a more unified story, with Rayquaza taking center stage in a way that actually makes the legendary conflict feel more impactful. The Battle Frontier is also a huge addition, giving the post-game real depth and replay value that the original Hoenn games were missing. Hoenn itself still feels great to explore, with varied environments and a strong sense of adventure. The pacing is a bit smoother here, and the overall structure feels more balanced than Ruby & Sapphire. It’s still not perfect, but it’s easily the most complete version of Hoenn and one of the strongest entries in the series.

Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire are a strong evolution of the series that really defined what the franchise would become going forward. Hoenn is one of the most memorable regions, with its mix of land and water routes, diverse environments, and a sense of adventure that feels bigger than the previous generations. The gameplay improvements at the time were huge. Abilities, natures, and double battles added more depth to team building, making battles feel more strategic compared to older games. Even today, the core mechanics still hold up surprisingly **** story is simple, but it works for what it’s trying to do. Team Aqua and Team Magma give the region some personality, even if they aren’t the most complex villains in the series. What really carries the game is the journey itself and the feeling of gradually exploring Hoenn. There are some issues, like slower pacing in certain parts and a lack of post-game content compared to later entries, but the overall experience is still very solid.

A really interesting spin-off that does a lot of things right, even if it never fully reaches the level of the main series at its best. The Orre region has a unique, almost darker vibe compared to most Pokemon games, and the whole Shadow Pokemon concept gives battles a different kind of tension. The idea of actually having to “purify” Pokemon instead of just catching them adds some depth, and it makes your team feel more earned over time. The game also has a more structured, story-driven approach than mainline entries of its era, which helps it stand out. That said, it can feel a bit grindy and repetitive at times, especially with the purification process and slower pacing. The battles also don’t always feel as smooth or dynamic as later Pokemon games, and some parts of the game drag more than they should. Still, there’s a lot of charm here, and it’s one of the more unique takes on Pokemon gameplay.

Almost perfect. One of the most complete Pokemon experiences ever made, and it could have been the perfect game and the best Pokemon game of all time if its pacing and balance issues were fully fixed. Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver are basically the peak of what Pokemon remakes can be. They take an already great generation and turn it into one of the most complete and content rich experiences in the entire series. Having both Johto and Kanto in one game makes it feel huge, and there’s always something new to do even after the main story. The presentation is easily one of the best on the DS. Following Pokemon alone adds a ton of charm, and the world feels alive in a way most other entries don’t match. It constantly rewards exploration and makes the journey feel personal and memorable. That said, it’s not perfect. Johto still has pacing issues, level scaling can feel uneven, and progression isn’t always as smooth as it should be. Kanto is a great addition, but it also feels a bit underdeveloped compared to the main Johto journey. Even the soundtrack, while still strong, doesn’t always reach the emotional peaks of other DS era games. Still, the amount of content, polish, and care put into it makes it incredibly easy to lose yourself in for hundreds of hours.

Pokemon Black & White is where the series feels like it actually tried to grow up a bit. Unova stands out immediately with its completely new roster, and it gives the game a fresh identity that later entries didn’t really replicate. For the first time in a while, it felt like I couldn’t rely on the same familiar Pokemon from past regions. The story is also one of the strongest in the series. Team Plasma actually has a clear ideology, and the game spends more time building up its themes instead of just throwing you from badge to badge. It’s not perfect storytelling, but it’s easily the most ambitious the main series has ever been. The difficulty is another highlight. Compared to newer games, Black & White actually makes you think a bit in battles, and Gym Leaders feel like real obstacles instead of speed bumps. The pacing is tight, and the overall structure feels well-balanced.Even the atmosphere hits differently. The music, cities, and general tone of Unova feel more mature and intentional than most other Pokemon regions.

Pokemon X & Y feel like a huge visual upgrade for the series, but not a huge gameplay one. Kalos is a beautiful region, and seeing Pokemon in full 3D for the first time was genuinely impressive, but underneath that presentation, the game feels a bit too safe. The adventure is very linear, and the difficulty is extremely low. You’re constantly being guided from one point to the next, and it rarely feels like the game is challenging you in any meaningful way. Even major battles go down quickly if you have a basic understanding of type matchups. Mega Evolution is the standout addition here. It added a lot of excitement to battles and made certain Pokemon feel much more impactful, even if it was later underused in future games. Outside of that, though, Kalos doesn’t do much to stand out in terms of story or ****’s a visually strong entry with some cool ideas, but it doesn’t fully take advantage of the leap to a new generation of hardware.

Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire are solid remakes **** game, but they lean way too hard into being easy and accessible. Hoenn is still a fantastic region, and the base structure of Ruby and Sapphire holds up really well, but the difficulty drop takes away a lot of the tension that made the originals memorable. The new content is actually a strong point. Mega Evolution adds a lot to team building, and the Delta Episode gives the story a bit more depth than the original games. There are also quality-of-life improvements that make the experience smoother overall. The problem is that everything feels too forgiving. Trainers are easier, boss fights don’t hit as hard, and the pacing makes it feel like the game is holding your hand most of the time. It starts to feel like a “modernized” Hoenn made for younger players rather than something that challenges you.

Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon feel less like full sequels and more like an expanded version of Sun & Moon that should’ve either been DLC or part of the original release. There are a few new story elements, extra Ultra Beast content, and some added features, but the core experience is almost identical. The problem is that the base game was already very slow and heavily scripted, and Ultra versions don’t really fix that. You’re mostly going through the same regions, the same trials, and the same structure with small changes sprinkled in. Compared to something like Black 2 and White 2, which completely reworked the story and expanded the world in meaningful ways, this feels much more like a repackage. It’s not a bad game on its own, but it doesn’t justify its existence very well. If you already played Sun & Moon, there’s very little here that feels new enough to matter.

The Island Trials sounded like a fresh idea, but they never felt as satisfying as working your way through eight Gyms and earning badges. The Totem Pokemon are supposed to be major challenges, but if you have even a basic understanding of Pokemon's battle system, most of them go down without much **** Pokemon League isn't much better. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is one of the better Pokemon games on Switch, which is kind of embarrassing when you remember it's just a spin off. The story is charming, the world has a lot of personality, and the dungeon crawling gameplay is still fun after all these years. The remake stays very faithful to the original games, which is both a good and a bad thing. Fans of the DS versions will appreciate that it doesn't mess with the formula too much, but it also means some of the gameplay can feel repetitive and outdated. The dungeons start blending together after a while, and the grind can become tiring. Still, there's a level of heart and atmosphere here that many modern Pokemon games struggle to match. Pokemon Legends Arceus is easily the best Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch, which is both impressive and kind of depressing. Instead of feeling like a traditional Pokemon game, it often feels closer to a Zelda style adventure, with a bigger focus on exploration, missions, and interacting with the world itself. Hisui is a fantastic setting. Sinnoh was already one of the most beautiful and interesting regions in the series, so seeing its ancient version was a great idea. Exploring the different areas, discovering new Pokemon, and completing requests made the world feel more alive than anything in the mainline games. At the same time, some of the traditional Pokemon elements take a backseat. The story isn't particularly memorable, the graphics can be rough, and the gameplay loop can become repetitive after a while. Despite that, the sense of exploration carries the entire experience. The funniest part is that the best Pokemon game on Switch doesn't even feel like a proper mainline Pokemon game. It succeeds by doing things that the series usually doesn't do, and that's probably why it stands out so much.

As a sppanish player, I should have loved Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. A Pokemon region inspired by Spain sounds like a dream come true, but the game ended up being one of the most disappointing entries in the series for me. The biggest issue is that I barely even noticed there was a story. Everything is so easy and forgettable that I never felt invested in what was happening. The game constantly pushes you forward without offering much challenge, and most of the characters and plot points blend together into one long, boring adventure.I'm also tired of Pokemon introducing a new battle gimmick every generation. Mega Evolution was cool. After that, it started feeling forced. Terastallization does nothing for me and just feels like another mechanic that'll be abandoned in the next game anyway. Then there's the technical side. The performance is awful, the graphics are inconsistent, and the bugs were impossible to ignore. For one of the biggest franchises in gaming, the game feels unfinished. Finally, I don't think Pokemon works well as a fully open world game. The lack of level scaling hurts progression, exploration feels unrewarding, and the traditional route based structure was simply more enjoyable.

Pokemon Legends ZA was a massive disappointment. The game tries to build on the ideas from Legends Arceus, but almost everything feels worse. The world is repetitive, the gameplay loop gets old quickly, and exploring Lumiose City isn't nearly interesting enough to carry an entire game. The biggest problem is that it never gives me a reason to care. The story is forgettable, the pacing drags, and most of the time I felt like I was doing the same tasks over and over again. Even the battles and catching mechanics, which were the highlights of Legends Arceus, feel stale here. I can see some players enjoying parts of it, but for me, the game was frustratingly boring from start to finish.

Pokopia isn't a bad game, but I genuinely don't understand the hype around it. At its core, it feels like Animal Crossing with Pokemon, and while that sounds great on paper, the gameplay gets repetitive much faster than I **** world is cute, collecting Pokemon is enjoyable at first, and the relaxing atmosphere will definitely appeal to some players. The problem is that there just isn't much to do beyond the basic daily activities. After the novelty wears off, the game starts feeling more like a checklist than an adventure. A lot of the popularity feels driven by social media clips showing the game's cutest moments, but those moments don't always translate into a consistently engaging experience. If you're looking for a laid-back game, you'll probably enjoy it. If you're expecting something deeper, you might end up disappointed.

Pokemon Champions strips away almost everything I enjoy about Pokemon and leaves behind the least interesting part: battling. There’s no world to explore, no story, no sense of adventure, just battle after battle with very little variety outside of team building. Competitive players might appreciate the focus on strategy, but for everyone else, the experience gets boring fast. A huge part of Pokemons appeal has always been catching creatures, exploring new regions, and building a team throughout a journey. Champions feels more like a battle simulator than a proper Pokemon game. I understand what Nintendo and Game Freak were aiming for, but it simply isn't for me. Without the exploration and progression that make Pokemon special, the game feels repetitive and lacks personality.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is probably the most complete Mario Kart game ever made. It has a massive amount of tracks, a huge roster, and runs flawlessly on the Switch. It's easy to see why so many people love it. My biggest issue is that after a while, it starts to feel repetitive. The racing is fun, but there isn't much depth beyond mastering a few mechanics and hoping items don't completely ruin your race. Losing first place because of three red shells and a blue shell in the last 10 seconds isn't uncommon, and it can make skill feel less important than luck. The game is at its best when you're playing casually with friends, but as a single-player experience, it doesn't keep me engaged for very long. There's a ton of content, but not enough variety to make all of it feel meaningful.

Super Mario Galaxy is one of Mario's greatest adventures, combining creative level design with a unique space setting that gives the game a sense of wonder few platformers can match. The gravity mechanics constantly introduce new ideas, and the soundtrack is easily one of the best in the series. What makes Galaxy stand out is its atmosphere. The combination of the music, visuals, and the feeling of traveling through the universe gives the game a soul that many later Mario titles struggle to replicate. Every world feels memorable, and the adventure never loses its sense of magic.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 takes everything great about the original and focuses even more on gameplay. The levels are more creative, the challenges are tougher, and new additions like Yoshi make the adventure even more fun. There is almost no filler, with each stage introducing fresh ideas at an impressive pace. While it doesn't have quite the same emotional atmosphere as the first Galaxy, it makes up for it with some of the best platforming Nintendo has ever designed. The game constantly surprises the player and rarely wastes a single moment.

Super Mario Odyssey is a great platformer with creative worlds, smooth movement, and one of the best control schemes in the series. The capture mechanic adds a lot of variety, and there is always something new to discover in each kingdom. However, compared to Galaxy, Odyssey feels like it lacks some of the magic that made that game so special. The two games share a similar sense of adventure, but Galaxy's atmosphere, soundtrack, and overall vibe feel much more memorable. Odyssey leans into a brighter, more playful style that can come across as a little more childish, while Galaxy had a unique sense of wonder that gave it more personality and soul. Odyssey is still one of the best Mario games ever made, but it doesn't leave the same lasting impression as Galaxy.

Super Mario 3D Land is a decent platformer that introduced the formula later perfected in 3D World, but it feels more like a prototype than a fully realized game. The levels are fun and the controls work well for a handheld system, but many ideas feel underdeveloped compared to what came **** be fair, it was designed for the Nintendo 3DS, so it couldn't match the scale or power of a home console release. Even so, the game lacks the creativity, content, and polish that make 3D World stand out. The worlds can feel repetitive, and there aren't many memorable moments that stick with you after finishing it.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 on Switch is one of the best Mario packages ever released. Both games still offer some of the most creative level design, memorable music, and imaginative platforming in the series, and the switch version improves the experience with sharper visuals, smoother controls, and much faster loading times. Some people complained that nintendo charged full price for games that originally released on Wii, but that criticism feels overblown. Buying both games separately today often costs around the same amount, and this version is simply the best way to play them. The upgrades may not be revolutionary, but they make two already fantastic games even better.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury improves on the original with faster gameplay, smoother online multiplayer, and the excellent Bowser’s Fury expansion. While 3D World remains a fun and creative platformer, Bowser’s Fury is the real highlight, offering a more open world style experience that feels fresh and exciting. The main game still has some of the same issues as before, such as limited exploration and a few safe design choices, but Bowser’s Fury adds enough new ideas to make the package feel more complete and memorable.

Super Mario 3D World is a fun and polished platformer with creative levels, tight controls, and enjoyable coop gameplay. The cat suit adds a fresh twist, and the game's colorful presentation keeps things entertaining throughout. However, it plays things a bit too safe compared to other 3D Mario games. The level-based structure limits exploration, and multiplayer can become frustrating due to camera issues. Overall, it's a solid mario game with plenty of charm, but it lacks the ambition and innovation needed to stand among the series very best.

Pokemon Pearl is my favorite Pokemon game of all time and a game that truly changed my life as a kid. The nostalgia it brings is unmatched, and revisiting Sinnoh always feels special. Its story is easily top 2 in the entire Pokemon series, with memorable characters, legendary pokemon, and a sense of adventure that still holds up today. It's also one of the more challenging Pokemon games, making victories feel rewarding and team-building more meaningful. Visually, the game has one of the sweetest and most charming art styles in the franchise. Even years later, Pokemon Pearl remains a timeless classic that I’ll always cherish.
