I’ve uncovered a marvelous new gaming world that I love immersing myself in and now my nephew and I can talk with equal zest about our various Poké accomplishments.

Ruby/Sapphire is probably the most intricate and detailed console RPG available. Staring into it will make many players woozy. [Sept 2003]

Whilst its apparent lack of any revolutionary gameplay is a worthy of criticism, it doesn't stop the fact that this is still by far one of the most addictive and long-lasting games you could hope for on your Gameboy Advance.

Solid game but it gets pretty boring after a while I think personally. Not the best game of all time for sure.

Hoenn is my favorite region and has some of my favorite pokemon designs of all time. This game does have it's flaws, like having way too many uber legendaries (they just made them too OP stat wise) and this snowballed into issues later on for many generations of titles. Lacks a lot of things from Emerald and is generally considered the inferior version.

With the game’s ability to trade and battle with friends, plus incredible amount of Pokemon to capture and train, you won’t be putting these two down anytime soon.

Nintendo took an already great design and made it better on the GBA, and while it's a bit more than a little disappointing to see a lack of focus in the graphics department, it's the sheer amount of "stuff" in the product that makes Pokemon for the GBA a really, really great game.

The base for future titles, which builds the ground for what we know as pokémon game mechanics

Ruby & Sapphire are thoroughly upgraded versions with great graphics & sound and tons of new features, even if it's almost the same old game under all of that.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire are the best-looking games in the series, but they don't hold a candle to technical marvels such as "Golden Sun." The graphics are hardly bad, though. They look clean and colorful.

While the sound and control is top notch, not enough was improved upon to really make this game any more intersting that it's GB and GBC brethren.

If you've already been-there-done-that, move along - there's nothing to see here. But if you must have Pokemon then just get one of these games. Don't fall prey to Nintendo's cheesy marketing scheme.

Mesmerising, profound and endlessly bursting with replay value, Pokemon Ruby is a beautiful, motivational, at times trippy, unique piece of art that feels supremely definitive and magical, regardless of who's playing. This is one of my all-time favourite games and it changed my life. I love it to bits and I always will.

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire are a massive step backwards from the previous generation of Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Day and Night is gone, and so is going to multiple regions. It does though however mark the start of double battles, natures, and abilities that have become staples of the series ever since at the expense of making it much more complicated on the player's end compared to the first two generations of the games. The game overall is challenging, with a fantastic soundtrack that is easily among the best in the series to this day, and the new Pokemon introduced in this generation are truly great. As soon as you beat this game though, it grinds to a complete halt, but this seems to be a chronic problem with Pokemon games in general across the generations for the most parts with only a handful of exceptions.
