The best main Pokémon series entry in years, X and Y sees several new features breathe life into a process that had grown stale and stagnant. Newcomers and longtime trainers alike should be able to find the joy in catching ’em all once again.

It still feels like a Pokémon game, but the ease of player control, the updated art direction, 3D graphics, and the scaling of the world make everything more inviting, attractive, and fun. It’s a great stepping-on point for new trainers, and a worthwhile continuing adventure for those who know what to expect.

Even though Pokemon X is undoubtedly the strongest entry in the series yet, after 14 years of playing with a basically unchanged formula, I kind of expected something more.

There’s a good game in Pokemon X, and fans looking for another game near-identical to the ones before it likely won’t find issue with a lot of the dusty trimmings and transparent battle system. If you want to get into into the new stat rebuilding features and grind out tons of easy battles to prep for high-level online multiplayer, it’s never been easier to do so. But for all else, the game’s excellent visuals belie the frustratingly old-fashioned design. RPG folk can find better times on their 3DS.

Pokémon X modernized the series with the jump to 3D and a stylish Kalos, pampering you with quality of life improvements (PSS, fewer HMs, skates/bike, EXP Share), and introduced two impactful features: the Fairy type for balance and Mega Evolution for the spectacle (and for trivializing the difficulty if you abuse **** story has moments with a more serious tone, but the villains pose more than they threaten, and the journey tends to be easy. Technically, the 3DS strains during busy battles, and the stereoscopic 3D is best left as an ornament. The music gives the journey a classy feel.Recommendation in 2025? Yes: it's a friendly entry point and a key chapter. If you want a challenge, impose some self-made rules and enjoy the ride.

This is the beginning of the truly bad trends. Poorly rendered environments. Annoying characters and companions. Extremely short and uninspiring story. Battle Scenes and Animations are atrocious. Camera is zoomed way too far in in most areas. Overly bright exposure in a lot of areas.Lackluster pokemon roster, they just dump old gen on you and it kind of ruins the game.Mega evolutions while cool, make the game E-Z mode, you need hacks to make it challenging. The integration of the Poke-Mart into the Pokemon Center is not a welcoming change. The overworld design and map layout is bad, confusing. Lumiose city controls is some of the worst programming I think I've **** leaders have 3 weak pokemon. Just horrible balancing in general.I wanted to like this game but that is just the reality.

Honestly this is Gamefreak at their absolute worst. Bare minimum pokemon game but still passable
