Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Every time I think I'm losing interest in Pokémon, Game Freak does something to reinvigorate me. The Pokémon Pearl and Diamond remakes last year were fine, though I ended up spending more time just playing the original Pokémon Pearl again. I needed something like Arceus, I think, to get me to once again drop dozens of hours into a single game. This is a brave, bold game into new frontiers for Game Freak, and it confidently promises a new and revitalised future for the series.

Pokemon Legends Arceus delivers the kind of Pokemon game experience so many have been hoping and asking for such a long time and the potential to do more is huge. The satisfaction of the main story to the new style of battling and focus on exploring this world rather than just being in it gives it an amazing tone that is not about just “I wanna be the very best” and instead has a far richer “I want to learn everything to share that knowledge with everyone” goal that I thrive on. What an incredible way to kick off 2022 as a Nintendo Switch owner.

Generally speaking, the Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a work with outstanding plot and depth, excellent open world design and interesting new battle mode. Although there are many deficiencies in explicit aspects, it still creates the most ideal form of Pokemon world in my mind, and thus becomes the best series of Pokemon works in five years, worthy of the suffix of "Arceus" in the name.

Arceus is one of the big games of the year. Perhaps not the best or the most polished, but one of the most fun and relevant to the industry, which is no small thing. The philosophical and mechanical change that it can trigger in the saga is one of its letters of introduction, despite the more than improvable technical section.

Pokemon Legends Arceus outshines the open-world concept of Sword and Shield and revisits the natural elements of the series and their environment first introduced in Pokemon Snap. Not everyone will appreciate the departure from the main series, however, and the lack of battles, missing multiplayer, and small number of Pokemon make for a very different experience that leaves you wanting more. The ideas and potential are definitely there, and if this is just a small sampling of what Game Freak can do with the series — we can’t wait for more.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is far from perfect. The visual issues and boring opening stretch make that clear. However, the title is still a majorly fun and exciting evolution of the franchise. Getting out there in the world and interacting with the Pokémon has never felt better. I'm excited to see where Game Freak goes from here, which is not something I would have necessarily said after prior entries.

Pokémon Legends Arceus should have been the next new step for the franchise but it turned out to be a disappointing experience.

This is probably the best Pokemon game ever. There’re a lot of pokemons. The gameplay is very fun.

Se siete nuovi della serie potrebbe essere il punto di ingresso per voi, a patto di accettare un lato tecnico davvero insufficiente Per esteso La serie di videogiochi Pokémon ha visto gloria e fama ai leggendari tempi del GameBoy, gloria e fama che non è più riuscita a ritrovare con l'avanzare delle console: DS ha fatto da ponte tra un passato glorioso e un presente quantomeno mediocre, con una sensazione perenne di pigrizia e "pancia piena". Leggende Arceus prova a invertire questo trend, con tante idee nuove e voglia di innovare. Prima grande novità: le mappe aperte in un mondo 3D. Il gioco si sviluppa in diverse aree, con diversi biomi, che presentano diversi Pokémon. Le aree sono esplorabili liberamente a piedi o in sella a diversi Pokémon unici che si sbloccano col tempo e che rendono il backtracking molto interessante e gratificante. Seconda grande novità: il crafting. Le pokeball ora possono essere craftate raccogliendo materiali e minerali senza doverne necessariamente acqistare: con loro anche un'ampia gamma di oggetti che possono facilitare la progressione durante il gioco. Terza e ultima novità, la più importante: il sistema di cattura e combattimento. Siamo sempre stati abituati a incontrare Pokémon casuali nell'erba alta e a combattere per catturarli: Arceus stravolge la formula, permettendo ai giocatori di nascondersi nell'erba alta e catturare le creature lanciando direttamente la pokéball, con colpi critici per mostri colpiti alle spalle. Il combattimento introduce ora colpi rapidi e colpi potenti, aggiunte che non stravolgono ma rendono variegata la solita formula (come al solito, divertente e assuefacente). Questo nuovo sistema di cattura è sicuramente il più grande pregio del titolo, aggiunta che ora non può essere più trascurata nei nuovi titoli. Interessanti anche le fratture temporali, eventi a tempo che fanno spawnare in un area precisa Pokèmon che non sarebbero trovabili da nessun altra parte: novità che apre le porte alla possibilità, per la prima volta nella serie, di chiudere il pokedex completamente da soli, funziona che ho apprezzato incredibilmente tanto. Imprescindibile TUTTAVIA, ci sono dei grossi ma. Primo fra tutti il comparto tecnico: non ci siamo con le modellazioni, né quelle delle mappe, né quelle dei modelli, che risultano sempre plasticosi e poco rifiniti. L'esempio perfetto sono le montagne, in alcuni punti per nulla rifinite e con texture stretchate, veramente imbarazzante. Le mappe, per quanto varie, risultato proprio vuote e smorte: vaste distese di nulla in cui i mostri popuppano in maniera vistosa. Sono presenti gli alpha, creature dominanti di una certa specie, eppure non è presente una vera e propria mandria che renda la sua presenza particolarmente maestosa. Il sistema di progressione a biomi è interessante al primo passaggio, ma risulta veramente troppo ripetitiva sul lungo periodo: bello esplorare zona per zona, ma la qualità dei biomi cala con l'avanzare dell'avventura, con le ultime due aree veramente pessime e poco stimolanti. Endgame non particolarmente ricco, ma rappresenta sicuramente una sfida interessante, al contrario del resto del gioco. Leggende Pokémon Arceus è sicuramente una ventata d'aria fresca, una gradevole aggiunta e una visione speranzosa del futuro. Il titolo è la rappresentazione perfetta del 7.5: se da un lato abbiano nuove meccaniche interessanti e divertenti, dall'altro ci sono problemi tecnici e di concept che rendono pesante la progressione. Consigliato per chi non è mai stato attratto dalla vecchia formula Pokémon, o per i fan in cerca di una ventata d'aria fresca

Entertaining at first, with a refreshing approach to exploration and catching Pokémon in the wild. However, the more you play, the more unfinished the world feels. Areas are mostly empty, Pokémon seem randomly scattered, clan villages are just a few tents, NPCs are heavily reused (even identical ones in the same house), and there are barely any recurring enemies besides the same three bandits. It feels like a great concept released before its world was fully realized.

Make better games. Better art direction. Make it up to modern standards. People are going to stop buying the games eventually even if its Pokemon if you keep doing this. The game was fun but it can be soo much better. How can this game exist with this quality in a world where Monster Hunter world and Cyberpunk exists.
