Not a bad game. It still has its solid core, new Pokémon, and what's worked for years continues to work. The open world is a questionable addition in my opinion. [Issue#324]

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet take the long-awaited step into a fully open-world, but one poorly implemented and marred by frustration. A compelling story and characters are a saving grace in what is ultimately a fun game, but Pokemon's attempts at modernising continue to fall disappointingly short.

A square wheel spins more smoothly and fluidly than this game. If three Pokémon or characters come into view at once, the whole game creaks and falters. Edge-off unplayable. And that's a shame. Because the addition of an open world is "on paper" a puffy idea to refresh the franchise. No more linear walking that takes you past gyms and ever stronger and different Pokémon, gotta catch 'em all. You can go wherever you want. With some tactics, you can take on some very tough challenges with Pokémon that aren't nearly strong enough. Fun! Except this game just wasn't ready. It's shameless that Nintendo and Game Freak are still throwing it on the market. Nevertheless: 10 million games sold in just three days.

To many bugs not enough details. Not fun as an adult. Pokemon needs to step up

I will preface by saying that I grew up playing the original pokemon games on the gameboy and DS. This was my first "new gen" 3D pokemon game and I have to say it felt like a massive let down. Now, on the Switch 2 there are no longer framerate issues. The game runs very smoothly. However I have to say that there are several factors that make this game a dissapointment compared to "old gen" games. 1) The gym battles are stupidly easy. 2) EXP share and auto-battles make it too easy for your pokemon to level up. In the old games, you made a bond with each pokemon on your team because you have to actually use it to level it up. In Violet you can practically forget some exist and they will level up anyways, meaning you never truly explore their strengths and weaknesses. 3) The pre-gym challenges are frankly childish and it was embarassing and tedious to have to do them. (Examples are "pushing a soccer ball into a net", or "collecting 10 items placed around the city") In the old games, you navigate the gym and have to beat several opponents before getting to the gym leader. The new challenges make me feel like I'm playing a game for toddlers and it doesn't align with pokemon in my opinion. 4) The open world aspect , and ability to do the gyms in any order means you can end up in a situations where you are fighting level 10 gym leader pokemon with your own level 50 pokemon. The gyms should scale in difficulty depending on how many badges you have, so they get progressively harder no matter which order you do them in. 6) Part of the beauty of the old games is encountering pokemon in the wild by pure chance. When a rare pokemon appears, you panic from excitement because you have to play carefully in order to catch it. In Violet however, you can see pokemon before you encounter them, removing a lot of the surprise element of wild encounters. 7) The story was horrendous, and I think I was forced to sit through multiple hours of combined unskippable dialogue. Truly, I can't think of anything that was more annoying than this. Despite all of this, it wasn't a BAD game, but I consistently felt I was forcing myself to finish it--maybe because I just wanted it to be over with. However the battles were fun just like in any pokemon game-- especially when they were difficult. I also liked that you could change your team from anywhere instead of having to go to a pokemon center to do so. I did not play the DLC and don't think it should have been advertised every time you open your backpack. When a game is this low quality, the DLC should not cost 30€. It should maybe be free. But I don't even care, because I would personally never sit down to play this again, even if there was more content.

I played over 300h this game it looks amazing on switch 2 and bad on the og switch I would give it a lower score if it was not for the switch 2 version that saved it the story is decent and the dlc amazing

I have had such a wonderful time with Pokémon Violet and Scarlet. None of the issues that I have with these games are anything but the most mild and forgivable irritations. Meanwhile, the promise of a big but blissfully uncomplicated world, filled with adventure and monsters to collect, brought me right back to what drew me into the whole Pokémon franchise in the first place. Is Scarlet and Violet a technical mess? Sure. Do I care? Not in the slightest. I’m here for the pokémon. Not to count frames.

I understand the hate that Pokémon Violet is getting. Frame rate issues, glitches, and design choices that make little sense are everywhere. Making characters less customizable is unforgivable. Developers saying their game is open-world when there are level caps is redundant. But I’m still having more fun than I’ve ever had in a Pokémon title. Violet takes the Pokémon formula and twists it into what I hope becomes the new normal in many ways. Three stories to play through and a UI that feels easier to use than ever before deliver elements Pokémon fans have long been looking for. Violet gave me the same emotional high that I got from the original game, which isn’t easy to do. I love being able to take on gym leaders, knock out giant oversized Pokémon, or break into someone’s hideout all in the same game. The heart of Pokémon is still here, still beating, even if the outside is full of fatty nonsense at times.

Having played this game only on Switch 2 for the past few months, I have to say it's one of the most fun experiences I've had with a game recently. The open world element is a brilliant idea (I wasn't sure of it when I first heard of it), and even if it could have been even better with more side-tasks and more NPCs to interact with, I didn't miss it because in previous Pokémon games they overdid it in my opinion (hopefully they'll find a balance for Winds and Waves). The 3D models for Pokémon are some of the best we've had in a while as well. I understand that when it came out for the NSW it had some issues, but if you're a new player, or if you recently bought the NS2, you'll enjoy the experience thoroughly, it's a completely different game thanks to the NS2 patch and the fixes they've made over the years.

While Scarlet and Violet aren't a complete reinvention of the formula, and technical performance issues certainly hold them back, they're still an essential leap forward – both in storytelling and gameplay mechanics. New features and clever tweaks along the way make this adventure feel fresh and encouraging, in ways that past games haven't. As a reinvigoration of the Pokemon formula, Scarlet and Violet are some of the best modern games in the long-running franchise.

Pokemon Violet feels like a giant step in the right direction for the franchise in most ways, but also a step back in others. While I still consider Pokemon Legends: Arceus a more polished experience, there is no denying the quality of core gameplay, new mechanics, and music in Pokemon Violet. The whole experience is held back by abysmal performance and poor visuals though.

There are still plenty more ways we’d like to see the Pokémon franchise evolve, but Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has us excited about the series' future. We really hope Game Freak can figure out how to smooth out the series’ ongoing performance issues on Switch because they'll certainly rub some players the wrong way — and they’re going to become a serious detriment over time. Scarlet & Violet is most fun and exciting when you're just exploring the world, and while there are many small new details and improvements to the Pokémon formula, it still plays it safe in a few areas. Regardless, things point toward a promising future for Gen 9 and beyond. It’s a smaller step than many may have hoped for, especially considering what Pokémon Legends: Arceus did, but it's definitely one in the right direction.

It’s hard to make a bad Pokémon game because the series’ standard gameplay is still so satisfying. But you can make a disappointing one, and that’s exactly what Game Freak did here. Whether it can be blamed on a lack of time, a lack of resources, or a lack of talent within the developer itself, Pokémon Violet is not up to the level where a game of this caliber should be. And while I will gladly continue to fill out my Pokédex until I’ve captured every critter hiding in this world, I’m always going to be left mourning what this game should have been rather than what it ended up being.

Pokémon Violet is a wonderful game with plenty of things to do like fight and capture Pokémon as the game lets you explore a big open world that has plenty of sights to see and explore. The game has some noticeable graphical issues as the game had some struggle to run normally on the Nintendo Switch 1 but really that wasn't my biggest complaint. I didn't have a major complaint for this game as it got me back into the franchise with the cute and scary Pokémon, and how the game handled a bunch of missions to build up the story one by one. The starter Pokémon are also a great choice that give you different abilities and different advantages to other kinds of Pokémon that you fight. I really enjoyed the gym missions as they always gave me an edge to get back from the fight and win. The game shows a way of strategy as you need to use proper Pokémon on your enemies. The gameplay feels very smooth for a Pokémon game that had some tough and rough looks, but it plays very well with smooth controls and responsive feelings. Anyway, this was my full review of Pokémon Violet and if you read this thank you.

It's fine, probably not the best in the series, but entertaining. The Teracrystallization mechanic is interesting and fun, and there are several eye-catching Pokémon like Skeledirge, Terapagos, Iron Valiant, and Ceruledge. It does have some graphical issues, which, at least in my opinion, stem from Game Freak's lack of development time or lack of interest. The graphics feel like 3DS graphics on the Switch, and Game Freak has already proven they can make a visually appealing game like Little Town Hero. Another thing they could have added is voice acting in the cutscenes. That would make the game feel more "alive"–explain what I mean. It can always be better, but it can always be worse.

The main game is fine, but once you reach the postgame, it all starts to unravel. There is nothing like a battle tower in this game, since GF and Nintendo are a small indie company that cannot make multiple competitive sets for offline play. I mean seriously, after a certain point your mons out-level the Paldean tournament and there is nothing to battle against, unless you like these terrible laggy raids that were NOT QA tested whatsoever. And then the online PvP is just a wasteland of toxic players using all their copy/paste teams from smogon. Oh boy I sure do love fighting Miraidon for the fifth time in a row! Or how about Urshifu? Even with the DLC, there was no semblance of offline play you could actually sink time into. Finally, whoever decided for the shinies to work the way they work, which is no sound or anything if one spawns should be unable to find another job in the gaming industry. This is very frustrating because there are a lot of shinies that do not look very different from their base.

Pokémon Violet struggles with its open world structure and poor optimization. As such, It falls short of being a competently run game. However, it is still Pokémon at its heart, so there is fun to be had. I recommend it only if you are a serious Pokémon fan. And even then, I recommend getting it used or for sale.
