This game was built to appeal to both the veterans of the series and the new folks just itching to give Pokemon a try. It's a fair bet that the fans will get this game without much hesitation.

Ahhh, Pokémon FireRed. One of the most memorable games of my childhood. I still remember the first time I played it when I was around 8 years old. Until then, I only knew and admired the Pokémon anime, but this game was what truly introduced me to the Pokémon world. It is one of those games that I have played so many times that I have lost count. It was a huge part of my childhood, my teenage years, and even my adult life. One, two, three, four, or even five playthroughs would still be far fewer than the number of times I have completed and restarted this adventure. The game offers a very enjoyable journey through the Kanto region, where we catch Pokémon, battle trainers, and work toward becoming the Pokémon Champion. Building your team, discovering new species, and training them throughout the adventure makes the experience incredibly rewarding. One of the game's greatest strengths is its sense of progression. Every new city, Gym, and area explored feels like an important step forward in the journey. The battles are easy to understand but still require strategy, especially when considering Pokémon types and moves. "Catching them all," obtaining at least one of every Pokémon, exploring every area, reaching the highest levels, and defeating every Gym Leader were always some of my main goals. The game constantly gave me reasons to keep exploring and improving my team. For me, Pokémon FireRed is a timeless classic that perfectly captures the spirit of adventure, exploration, and collection that defines the Pokémon franchise. It is a game that every Pokémon fan should play at least once.

Timeless classic, played and beat this game so many times as a kid and never got sick of it.

Pokémon FireRed on Switch delivers a timeless, tightly designed RPG experience that still holds up thanks to its strong core gameplay, smooth progression, and charming presentation. The $20 price point adds significant value, especially with previously limited event content like Ho Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys now fully accessible, making this one of the most complete versions of the game. However, the re-release falls short in modernization, lacking online trading and battling, meaningful quality of life improvements, and showing technical issues in docked mode. While it’s an excellent and accessible way to revisit a classic, the minimal enhancements keep it from reaching its full potential.

From the big things to the little things like Move Tutors, new moves, and the ability to mix and match through literally hundreds of creatures, makes creating teams an endless task. Whether you're new to the series or been there from the beginning, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will surely not disappoint.

Expecting a quick stroll down memory lane, I instead found myself renewing my long forgotten obsession with Pokémon. A must-buy for any past or present fans of Pokémon, and should definitely be considered by any RPG fan.

Nintendo as of late have been the masters of repackaging their own products, and it pleases me to say that they have done well with Pokémon FireRed.

The quality of the game remains and it's an essential purchase for those who are new to Pokemon but we can't help feeling the update is a little on the cheap side. [NGC]

I'd recommend these versions to new Pokémon fans when they come out locally, due to all the in-game help. When it comes down to it though, I'd rather have a new, more inventive game than a remake. [JPN Import]

The new additions don't add up to more than what we call an expansion pack for a PC game.

Overall a solid game but a bit too simple in its mechanics and it has very few pokemon. I liked the exploration but the map was empty most of the time. Also the story is not so great

The first generation of pokemon games were lackluster, but they were at least excusable because it was the first entry of a series that didn’t yet know what it was. The remakes, however, do NOT have this excuse. Idk how people defend these games that could have fixed SO many of the game’s issues but instead decided the only change worth making was the waste of time known as the Sevii Islands. Kanto already had a terrible variety of mons, making you still encounter pidgeys when you were 6 badges in while locking most of the actual interesting ones behind the safari zone or hard-to-reach dungeon floors. And this isn’t just because they only had 151 to work with. Black and white had about the same number, and they were constantly giving you new and interesting pokemon to catch in every location. Kanto is just a boring region with a boring early game, no story, no interesting characters, nothing that makes you wanna explore, and a lategame that feels unfinished. How did they already make a good game in Ruby & Sapphire and then fail to fix the glaring mistakes that made gen 1 such a slog to get through? This game isn’t worth your time, go replay gen 5.
SummarySet off on a grand adventure to fulfill your dreams of becoming a Pokémon master! Explore the Kanto region and discover wild Pokémon around every corner. Build your Pokémon collection, train them, and battle your way to success -- earn your badges as you develop winning strategies to use against experienced Gym Leaders in every town. Exp... Read More
