In truth, it's a game that feels endless despite its relatively short core content.

Whether playing for the first time or revisiting once again, Rescue Team DX delivers an amazing adventure that doesn’t end after the story has been beaten. The difficulty is right in the perfect spot that’s satisfying to overcome challenges, while being random and wild enough at times that some help might be needed. The art style and music making it worth hunkering down in one area to admire the surroundings, while each new area offers brand new surroundings to never get bored of. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is on par with if not superior to the original in many ways, and offers the perfect kind of journey for players looking for the latest adventure in the world of Pokémon.

Fine to fill time or bring existing pokemon fans to other styles of games, but not for much more.

Despite some balancing issues and a lack of ambition, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX still delivers the emotion and challenge that fans new and old will appreciate.

If you’re someone who has not played a Mystery Dungeon game before and are looking for a chill and passive dungeon-crawler to sit back and relax while listening to a podcast or watching a television show, this will work wonders for you. Just don’t expect a deep Pokemon RPG with meaningful progression or impressive visuals.

A thoroughly uninteresting roguelike that undermines the most compelling elements of both the genre and the Pokémon universe.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is one of the better Pokemon games on Switch, which is kind of embarrassing when you remember it's just a spin off. The story is charming, the world has a lot of personality, and the dungeon crawling gameplay is still fun after all these years. The remake stays very faithful to the original games, which is both a good and a bad thing. Fans of the DS versions will appreciate that it doesn't mess with the formula too much, but it also means some of the gameplay can feel repetitive and outdated. The dungeons start blending together after a while, and the grind can become tiring. Still, there's a level of heart and atmosphere here that many modern Pokemon games struggle to match. The art style is beautiful, and it feels like the developers actually understood why people loved the originals.

It's a game that feels very niche throughout, and that's because it is. Before this version give the artwork a big upgrade, on the DS the Mystery Dungeon games felt very much "indie title with a Pokémon skin on top", and was a sharp divergence away from what the core series was all about. Rescue Team DX feels the same way, but much more polished visually and with some quality of life additions. Surprisingly, in many ways it's harder than the originals, whcih was a pleasant surprise for me. The critics didn't understand the game when first released and don't understand it now, hence the mediocre reviews - it's not meant to be a 'Pokémon' game, it's a spinoff, and a very good one. It's a hard game to explain, so I'd recommend trying the free demo before purchasing. If you like that, you'll like the final game. I'd also say try getting a physical copy second hand maybe, as the asking price is a bit too steep for what the game is.

Short, boring, easy and annoying. Finally do some new age pokemon games, not retro GBA remakes.
