It is undoubtedly a well-crafted game with a lot to do and a lot to explore. However, every single mission is preceeded by actually getting to the starting point which takes minutes at a time. This just isnt for everyone. I found myself bored multiple times during the campaign but the game really is about exploring, with the campaign being secondary.

The game is an easy 10 if you like the slower paced action games. There is a lot to explore and it is your standard puzzly God of War fare. The story is mid but that is because I am not a fan of this arc. The game performs flawlessly and you get unique weapons that play differently and are fun to use. A 10/10 for me but def not for everyone

5/10 (site won't let me pick 5/10) Read the review by the dude named bkuch on here and see what kind of pseudointellectual and pretentious people like this game lol. The game is not good from a gameplay standpoint with the game basically just being you doing mundane tasks. There is a point to the mundane tasks but they are mundane nevertheless. The presentation is good which is why this is not a 0/10. The creators tried to do something unique and did. The story is generic, formulaic and basic. There is a level of shock value but every theme explored here has been explored, ad naseum, in much better ways, many times before. This is the type of game that is made for simple people that want to feel deep. If you are not simple, there is nothing here.

The game is an excellent and well crafted metroidvania. It is exactly what you would expect it to be and is very long, especially considering the fact that you will die many times. The game would be a 9 but the fact that it is as good as it is for 20 bucks takes it to 10/10 for me

The game is a masterpiece if you like action games. It did not get the justified reviews it deserved because today only games with over the top emotional stories do. Metaphor: ReFantazio10
Oct 13, 2024
It's a bona fide masterpiece. It is like Persona games but everything feels more meaningful because it is. The prerogative to increase your traits and ranks with the followers is far more interesting and important than P5 given the story. Since there are not like 1000 personas to get, which quickly become obsolete, the game induces the socialsim elements in such a way where you are incentivized to do the social life sim stuff so you can grow more powerful. The classes, called archetypes, are all viable and useful. The game design is such where an archetype like the Merchant, which may sound lame, is very useful depending on the context. As such, the combat is deeper than in Persona by some measure. You also do not lose if the protagonist falls in battle. One of the strengths of Metaphoris the world building, as compared to Persona. For example, building up the "tolerance" trait might mean you learn about the discrimination of a particular group of citizens. This helps build the world as opposed to a comparable activity in Persona 5 where you go to a bath house to increase your charm as you skip the cutscene because nothing valuable is actually happening. Persona 5 probably is a bit better in its depth and likely, it's length but this is exactly what was promised in the notion of Metaphor being a fantasy persona. I am not finished yet so the story could turn out inferior or superior but if you like SMT games and JRPGS in general, this is a must play.

This is classic and PEAK Silent Hill! Although there is no combator puzzles, the thematic elements and presentation are exactly what Silent Hill is about, trauma and guilt. It is a slow mess with too much dialogue and nonsense. Clearly a cash grab. I would expect that it would at least be better than the original game from 25 years ago and it is nowhere near in terms of excitement. Maybe it gets better but I do not think I will continue to play it after the first mission. Seeing the same thing again and again gets repetitive. We have now beaten the scorpion first boss in three iterations. Cmon now.

Chained Echoes10
Jun 26, 2023
Chained Echoes is a sometimes challenging game with a lot of meaningful side content. It harkens back to the best time of JRPGs and really is comparable to the all time classics. There is nothing bad about this game aside from maybe the ending and some of the twists, which I thought were quite obvious. The best part of it is the combat! Combat: Perfect combat that involves diverse party members with clear roles and duties. Additionally, you get Mechs that also serve similar roles and hare very customizable for different play styles. Each character gets their HP and TP (MP) replenished after battle which works very well due to the excellent balancing. A group of enemies can easily defeat you if you do not understand how the game plays. Eventually, the game gets easier but the pacing is excellent because you get new party members with unique roles that can shake things up. The bosses are and feel epic. The world: Very similar to Ivalice for me which makes it amazing. A lot of diverse NPCs and party members and fun things to do aside from the main quest. The Story: Pretty good considering everything but, in my opinion, the weak point of the game. The other things, however, make up for it. OVERALL: Definitely worth the price and to try out. There are elements from FF12, FF6 and FF10 that are reinterpreted in interesting ways so if you like those games, definitely give this one a try!

Final Fantasy XVI8
Jun 26, 2023
The game is a solid action game and, if it were not a mainline FF game, it would be considered a great new IP. HOWEVER, the game does not quite feel like Final Fantasy. It feels lazy and quickly churned out. For what it is, it is great, but from FF, I have grown to expect some soul and some great stories and this game has NEITHER. First, the story is as generic as it gets. The characters are dull and boring with Clive and Jill essentially being the same exact character. The first like 15 hours are just Clive not understanding what was rather obvious and coming to terms with his failure again and again. Jill has the exact same problem and the exact same solution. There are moments here and there where the game has moments of Final Fantasyness but overall it is severely lacking in the soul department. Even FF13 which has been unfairly panned for years now had a charm and exuberance that made it distinctively Final Fantasy. In FF16, they try hard to incorporate certain things like the spells and abilities we are used to but the truth is Clive is monochromatic and every enemy can easily be killed irrespective of which Eikons you choose. In total, he has like 4 abilities for each Eikon. The magic button is completely useless and basically does chip damage for when you are far. The world is boring! Valisthea is tiny and repetitive. You have these little towns with like 3 buildings each. I am approximately half way done and thus far there have been two or three dungeons beyond the two unimpressive and tiny zones. I think there are two other equally unimpressive zones coming up with some fetch quests but I am not looking forward to them. The production value is obviously high and the game is entertaining but, WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, this will be remembered as a game that is closer to FF15 than to FF7, 8, 9, 6 or even 12. Lastly, the characters are so lame that they took Balthier, called him Cid, and thought no one would notice. They also took Basch and called him Rodney. They even look like their source material. Clive will go down with Noctis as the worst protagonist in FF history while Jill will go down as the overall worst character ever. The only characters with any soul are an NPC named Gav and Torgal who is a wolf with no dialogue. Despite having no dialogue, his personality is more fleshed out than that of Jill.

Game is nearly perfect if played correctly. If you do not stray from the path in the sphere grid and do not grind, you will have a classic team that complements each other well. If you do stray and complete large chunks of the total grid for every character, you can three shot the final boss, rendering the mythos of the game moot. If the antagonist is presented as Sin is presented in this game, it is unreasonable to three shot him under ANY circumstances

Bloodborne is vastly overrated. The game is repetitive and boring with little variance. Every enemy in the game basically requires the same strategy, attack and dodge and THATS IT. The visuals are great and the game is engaging enough but there is no reason for these insanely high reviews. The weapons are all copies of each other and they all function quite similarly. The gun is vastly useless and not needed to defeat any enemy. The game is punishing! Not in the sense that it is too difficult because it is not but in the sense that there is a steep learning curve if youre used to playing other hack and slash games. Once you get the hang of it, the game is repetitive and boring and lacks direction. I am level 26 or so and have gone pretty far in the game and I still have no idea of the purpose. Just hunt monsters? For no real reason? Psh.

THIS IS FOR ANYONE ENTICED BY THE USER SCORE! I bought the game and it is an uninspired mess! I have played several hours and literally every battle can be won by going close to the enemy and pressing square until the enemy dies. There is absolutely zero challenge in this game. You learn all sorts of moves that basically have zero utility and you get a persona like being that also is not necessary to win any of this game's easy battles. Having played as long as I have, I have encountered about 3-4 unique enemies. In essence, I have spent like 6-7 hours fighting the same 3-4 enemies ad nauseum. You get new characters but they play almost exactly like the main character does in the context of the game itself. All you do is run and attack things with any of the characters. THAT'S IT! Do not be fooled by the fact that it has a great user score. I am not sure what these people were thinking but some are suggesting the combat is not too easy. It is the easiest combat I have come across since every single battle can be won by running from enemy to enemy and pressing square until you win. This is made especially easy since there are about 3-4 enemy types and you quickly learn their patterns. Not that you need to because they do basically no damage to you. I have yet to use an item, I have yet to die, I have yet to feel challenged in any way, I have yet to buy anything from the in game merchant, I have not grinded at all and I can go through every level with zero threat. Not good, if we are being honest.

I have a habit of explaining to my mother the stories of games that I enjoy. This is the only game I have explained to her where she agreed that the point the game made was incredible and she did not say "You're 32, stop playing videogames." The one flaw of this game is that unless you get all the endings, the game will not seem that good. I know this sounds like a cop out but it is the truth. The beauty of the game is exactly that. It vets the uncurious and simple players who just want to smash robots and win and leaves the rest of the game to be enjoyed by the ones who care about the story and are intrigued by the existentialist crises that occur through the game's many characters. I forced myself to play a second time around after getting the first ending and I was not really looking forward to it but the good game play made me enjoy it quite a lot. By the end of all the five main endings, I saw what the game was doing and I had the greatest gaming moment of my life. I will not spoil it and you should not look to see what it is but it is an incredible moment that is anti-nihilistic and explains the value of life, love, perseverance and helping each other.

Persona 5 Royal10
May 27, 2020
This will be the most honest review you will read. Most of these are either fanboys or haters. Persona 5 Royal and the normal version of Persona 5 are fantastic games. They take certain elements of RPGs and make them more prominent. For example: In many RPGs and certainly turn based RPGs, elemental weaknesses exist but exploiting them is almost never necessary. The enemy that is weak to fire will also die equally effectively through weapons but NOT HERE! Persona 5 heavily rewards the exploitation of enemy weaknesses and preventing enemies from exploiting yours. This makes every battle strategic. There are, however, some negatives. First, even for a Persona game, there is way too much dialogue. You are a saint if you read all of it. Luckily, this can be essentially skipped by pressing the start button. Characters tend to say the same things again and again and literally nothing of note happens without a dialogue between the characters. I mean if you are in a dungeon and you see a locked door, this will prompt a multi paragraph discussion on the door being locked and you needing to find another way. This is intolerable at times, especially when all you need to know is that the door is locked. The time between targets/missions is also atrocious. This is the time when most of the story advances but it is so tedious to just go through meaningless dialogue that can easily be reduced by 95 percent and still get the point across. Now, on to the story. The story is pretty good and rewarding. You feel like you are accomplishing something as you play the game. This is important because in today's stories, it stands out. Consider something like God of War where the entire story is get from point A to point B with your son while you bond. Great game, overrated story. Similarly, Persona 5 has a great but often overrated story. It's a good story with some nice twists but nothing to write home about. Again, it is good considering the current landscape of games. The characters: The characters are certainly a low point in Persona 5, if we are being honest. If you have played other persona games, you will see very clearly that virtually every character in Persona 5 is a derivative of characters in other persona games. One of the low points of Persona is that in every game the characters are the same. You have a rough around the edges bad boy type who uses lightning magic or sometimes fire and is something of an outcast. This is your main attacker. You have a girl who uses fire magic or sometimes wind and is one of your healers. She is the bubbly popular attractive girl archetype. You have the best friend archetype in all these games and you have a mascot type animal character as well. Specifically with Persona 5, I found the confidants to be lackluster and uninteresting as compared to confidants from persona 3 or 4 (3 had the best confidants). The villain is obviously the villain as soon as you meet him and the game treats it as some form of surprise. Overall, the game is fantastic and Persona 5 Royal has a lot more than the first game. The thing is, however, that Persona 5 Royal is substantially easier than Persona 5 Regular. This is because of some of the additions to the game that make combat much easier like the Showtime attack and the fact that baton passes can be done right off the bat. Certain elements of dungeons make it easier to conserve HP and SP. This works well in a remaster but is not great for a base game. Irrespective, if you have not played the first version, just play this one to get the most out of the story and gameplay.

Final Fantasy IX10
May 27, 2020
This is the best game of all time. This game has like an 85 critic review score which suggests that games like Journey, Rayman Legends and Bastion are superior to it. I chose those three games because while they are good games (except Journey which is boring and pretentious), they are obviously inferior to Final Fantasy IX. There is room for argument between a game like FFIX and let's say God of War, Persona 5 or Nier: Automata but the idea that it's an 85 is simply disingenuous. To suggest that a botchy game about an Irish Samurai in Japan fighting monsters is superior to this is just a bold faced lie. Final Fantasy IX was way ahead of its time graphically and the remaster still holds up. In addition, the 2x speed option makes the battle loads much more bearable. If you have not played FFIX and like RPGs, you are literally missing the best one.

Vagrant Story8
May 27, 2020
Vagrant Story is a great game and even though I give it a 8, it is overrated by most people. The stages of the game look atrocious even for a PS1 game. There were better games coming out in 2000 with better graphics. The story is overrated and needlessly complicated. Very little light is shed on the main character. He is basically on a mission and things happen around him. The battle system is novel and unique but not without its flaws. First, there is a substantial chance you may not understand the battle and customization system at all. Secondly, the fact that you can spam a move with timing for eternity makes the customization basically useless. Once you learn the combos and their timing, you can continue to destroy things with the equivalent of 1 attack for the most part. Heal, attack, repeat. Virtually none of the other magic in the game is actually useful. You can chain your attack and quickly chip the enemy's health away without worrying about element they are weak to. Every boss fight is like every enemy fight, get close and spam the attack; heal if necessary, repeat for 40 hours. While it is a great game, it is one of the most overrated games ever.

Super Meat Boy1
Oct 28, 2015
This game is horrible! In the world that we live in, people tend to give a lot of credit to indy games and while some of them are great, some of them are crap. This falls in the latter category. Super Meatboy is a platformer that should cost .99 cents on your phone's marketplace. You assume the role of the titular Meatboy in a quest to save your girlfriend. Meetboy can jump, walk, run and wall jump to get past obstacles in order to reach his gf. Since there is no thinking involved in any level, the game comes down to simply being able to guide Meatboy where he needs to go. This is sometimes difficult but you will eventually get it if you try enough times. If you are not bored after the first level, I will be shocked. Cons: Repetitive game play, lacking in almost every way. Pros: Lots of blood if you're into that, the controls are solid.

Final Fantasy IX10
Feb 10, 2015
To review quite possibly the best game ever made, I have divided this review into different sections (There will be heavy comparison to FFVII and FFVIII since they are often grouped together): Tradition/Place in the Series: FFIX obviously brings to mind the older and more difficult final fantasy games. Not only does this game reintroduce us to character classes, it treats them with appropriate respect. FFVII and FFVIII received a lot of acclaim for their customization but such customization made each character essentially the same. Any character can use Ultima and any character can Heal. This customization took away from the characters of the game, treating them all as blank canvases for the player to paint on. The problem is that every player would likely mold the same 1 dimensional characters. FFIX gives you a cast of characters that balance each other on the battlefield and in the story. The main character is not physically the strongest, is not capable of dealing the most damage, and cannot cast magic. He is dependent, in a symbiotic relationship, with the rest of the characters. The last FF game that does this is FFIV, easily one of the more challenging FF Games. Gameplay: As alluded to before, the gameplay is considerably different in its depth than the previous two final fantasy games. While the active time battle system made a welcomed return, the different roles, created by the characters' different abilities, make the battle system much more delicate. If the white mage dies, you will want to use a phoenix down immediately because they are the only character that can cast healing magic. The overworld is brighter and the graphics are superior, partially helping the vastly improved controls. In previous games, it was sometimes hard to even move in the direction you wanted. The battles are intense, come down to the wire, and must be planned as part **** goal to reach the next save point. Whereas in other FF games you can essentially beat the entire game by attacking, healing, and casting the later black magic spells, FFIX places a greater emphasis on cooperation and alternative spells. The mage characters, for the most part, have very low attack and their role is simply that of a mage. The main character, a thief, can only attack, steal, and use a variety of relatively useless Thief Skills. Despite this, the emphasis on stealing is clear. Perhaps more than in any other FF game, stealing is critical to getting rare items and equipment. Storyline/Plot: I never really understood what was so great about Squall and Cloud. They both whine a lot and have this unfounded swagger. They both have rivals that intimidate them and lack the confidence of a true hero. Now, I understand that their characters are meant to be brooding anti-hero types but, in my opinion, they come off as unrealistic and lame. Would Squall, with his pessimistic insecurities, be a good soldier? Would Cloud, with his existentialist crisis and slightly disturbing idolization of Sephiroth, be a good soldier or even a person you would want to hang out with? The rest of the cast of these two games is also riddled with interchangeable, generic, and forgettable characters like Selphie, Zell, Irvine, Quistis, Barrett, and Cait Sith. FFIX, on the other hand, has a worthwhile hero whose attitude is conducive to saving the world and doing incredible things. In fact, the determination of virtually all the characters to do good is conducive **** story; a story where a band of misfits save the world. Each character has his or her own journey that reveals what they are versus what you thought they were. Though some of the characters have cliched moments, they all break out of their shell in enjoyable ways. Without spoiling the story, I cannot make the arguments that I want to on behalf of this brilliantly written game. Now a little about the ending of the game WITHOUT ANY SPOILERS! A lot of RPGs seemingly tend to end on a semi dark note. Though the quest is completed, there is some hangup the characters have. If not that, the villain's devastation is too significant to ignore. Those that have played FFVII, FFVI, and FFX will know what I mean. FFIX, on the other hand has a complete ending where only a superfan like myself should be left wondering "what happened afterwards?" The ending gives a sense of completion and success unlike some of the darker endings in games where the player's achievements are taken up under him/her by some ridiculous plot twist. Bearing in mind that FFIX has plenty of plot twists that are cool and unexpected while also being consistent to the story and mythos of the game. If you have never played this game, DO IT. It is easily one of the best games ever with the best characters and a great story. Easily the most underrated FF game to date (FFXII is a close second). The best ever! Good for: Everyone Not good for: Squall, Cloud, and Sephiroth fanboys who like insecurity in their badasses.

Not done with it yet but I am not sure it can be considered a game... The puzzles are few and are quite basic, despite what others say. There are some puzzles that require a minimal amount of logic but aside from that, the puzzles are your run of the mill "I saw/heard something before and it probably is the solution to the puzzle." Still, the game asks the player to "backtrack" through the novel, usually to solve some multi-tiered puzzle. The game would be better, but certainly harder, if said backtracking was more analytical and logical as opposed to simply attempting to answer questions like "what symbol was on that wall?" The uniqueness of the game and the possibility of being immersed in the story is enough to warrant a good review. I intend on finishing the remainder of the game on my way home today on the metro. There are few games that I can think of that will make the metro ride more bearable. Surely, playing tetris would not do the trick. This is achieved by Device 6's charm and wonderful story telling. Unlike a book, where you can skim over certain sections, Device 6 demands attention since any observation could become part of a puzzle later on. This, the intriguing story, the unusual gameplay, and its production value make this game one to certainly look out for. Good for: Avid readers, people who like puzzles, people who have long commutes via public transportation, people who have iPhones. Bad for: Avid gamers, those who hate reading, people who are bored easily.

Feb 10, 2015
This is my first review on here and I chose this game because it is unique and fun. A lot of people here complain about the difficulty on even the easy level. I had little trouble beating the game on normal, though I died many times. Some of the deaths were due to the sometimes confusing camera and others were due to mistakes made during the puzzle. The puzzles are challenging but are intuitive (once you understand how the blocks can and can't connect) and by the end of the game, 2 or 3 techniques is all you need to beat the game. Perhaps the best part of game is the story and the decision making process that the protagonist must go through. What is portrayed as the generic "good choice vs bad choice" dynamic quickly turns out to be something a little different. The questions are not the clear cut obvious right answer and obvious wrong answer. Some of the questions make you think and the game, using online data gathered from other gamers, lets you know how other people have answered the same questions. The way the questions are answered, combined with other decision making within the game, lead you to one of many endings, some of them wholesome and conclusive and others bordering on the ridiculous. Overall, Catherine is a great game with a lot of unique elements and a great story filled with metaphors, allusions, trivia, and dilemmas. Good for: Puzzle gamers, anime fans, fans of story driven games, fans of philosophy, fans of psychology and fans of sociology. Not suited for: Those who like easy games.
