Persona 5 Royal allows players to experience the story they already love in a new way without losing any of the beauty from the original game. New and old characters get their chance to shine through and steal your heart, even the ones you never expected to. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and maybe you’ll even feel a sense of justice for the infamous Phantom Thieves in the end. But one thing you won’t feel is regret in picking up Persona 5 Royal, as it’s truly the best Persona title, if not one of the best video games, I’ve ever experienced to date.
This is not more of the same, this is not an optional add-on to the original game. This, my friends, is the perfect experience, down to the last letter, down to the last minute. Persona 5 Royal is a Japanese crown jewel.
All of the new additions and content mean that Persona 5 Royal is a clear upgrade to the original. New players should seek this version without hesitation, although vets may find starting the game over from scratch to be too big an ask. Either way, there’s no doubt that Persona 5 Royal sits proudly on the throne of Peak Persona… or at least it will until Atlus decides they can do even more with it.

i give it a 9 because no game can be perfect but this one is pretty damn close, i have platinum on it and i made a more in depth review on it on steam, because mostly my problems were story related i don't want to write it here, my first persona game and it might stay my favorite one for a while

The original Persona 5 was already a joy to play; however, this version definitely steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park. If Persona 5 was a perfectly executed and baked sponge cake, Persona 5 Royal is the same perfect sponge cake... but now filled with lashings of jam and cream. Everything that has been added has been amazingly well implemented. This is a wonderful title, regardless of whether or not it is compared to the original… which is still a delectable sponge cake! The story, characters, music, gameplay, and animation - everything comes together and creates an experience that is the personification of JRPG perfection. Incredibly unique and enjoyable!

Persona 5 Royal is a stunning game that takes something which has already captured millions of hearts and makes it even better. This is the quintessential Persona experience. If you're new to the franchise, this game is for you. If you're a seasoned veteran, there is enough new and improved content that this game is still for you.

The best version of a masterpiece is... a masterpiece once again. It is also a joy to play in 4K.

Persona 5 is certainly not a light endeavour, and Royal’s new additions understandably won’t be enough for everybody to want to go through it again, but for those considering reuniting with the Phantom Thieves, or completely new to the title, Persona 5 Royal is a perfect opportunity and an incredibly rewarding usage of time. Persona 5 already made an incredible mark when it released, and Persona 5 Royal just adds to Atlus’ richly deserved reputation among RPGamers.

Persona 5 Royal improves the original, phenomenal Atlus JRPG in every possible way. Perfection now is just one step away.

It was just another quintessential Persona experience: a wildly, wonderfully fun story-driven game with a story that fails to live up to its own potential and fundamentally misunderstands the core of their own characters. Atlus both made the most of and absolutely squandered the chance to improve upon Persona 5—and honestly? I don’t know what I was expecting.

Das Spiel, das mit seinem Stil, seiner Magie und seiner Meisterschaft mein Leben für immer veränderte und mein Schicksal für immer veränderte.

as others have said, basically all persona games are a little bit sexist and perverted. 5 has a lot of good content, but the social interactions are mind numbingly redundant and repetitive, not due to poor translation but just because atlus loves shoving filler down our throats. a mod could cut out 75% of all dialogue in the game (especially the group texts) and we would not miss a single plot point due to how many times things are repeated. one character says a sentence, 3 other characters send a text back literally just repeating it again and again maybe with a different ? or !!! at the end. this becomes even worse when entire conversations are repeated, which simply does not stop happening. even with the ffw feature, i still spent the vast majority of my time playing persona 5 royal just hitting the skip button over and over and over because i cannot handle a single additional moment of this slop. as for the actual game: its pretty awesome as jrpgs go, i just dont see why atlus has to utterly flood it it with this chatbot tier dialogue. the story is essentially a carbon copy of persona 4, with the bad guy even being the exact same type of character in the same role with the same job. couple this with inanely convoluted and visually jarring menus with long repeating animations that make simple tasks take many times longer than they need to, and i'd say that you are better off just watching a highlight reel or a lets play where you can more easily ffw for larger chunks. if you want to try the series, persona 4 golden is clearly a better and more affordable game.

Stop hating the older games. They're old and I like that. Stop over-glazing Persona 5 and Royal. You want to suffer, play Revelations: Persona. The gameplay is good. Story could be better though.

Got this game after reading tons of favorable reviews. The story itself is not too bad, but the gameplay tends to be far too repetitive and absolutely not fluid. I gave it a chance after a few palaces, but after that was just too much "always the same". Probably Manga fans would appreciate it more.
