Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry. This is a solid RPG/action game. Some elements of the game are unusual and fresh for single-player parts of the Final Fantasy series, but some are too dull and rudimentary.

New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]

Final Fantasy XVI is a bold, cinematic entry that pushes the series in a new direction, and for the most part, it really pays off. Set in a darker, more grounded world, the story leans into political conflict, revenge, and personal loss, delivering one of the most intense and mature narratives the franchise has seen. It grabs your attention early and keeps you invested with strong character moments and high-stakes drama.
The combat is easily one of the game’s biggest strengths. It fully embraces action, with fast-paced, stylish gameplay that feels smooth and satisfying from start to finish. Pulling off combos and abilities never gets old, and the massive Eikon battles are a standout—they’re huge, cinematic, and genuinely feel next-level on PS5.
Presentation-wise, the game is top-tier. The visuals are impressive, the voice acting is strong across the board, and the soundtrack hits hard during key moments, making everything feel more impactful. It really does feel like you’re playing through a big-budget fantasy epic.
That said, it’s not flawless. Some RPG elements feel simplified compared to older entries, which might disappoint longtime fans looking for deeper customization. Side quests can also feel a bit repetitive at times, and pacing slows down in certain sections of the game.
Even with those issues, Final Fantasy XVI delivers an unforgettable experience. It’s a confident evolution of the series that trades some traditional elements for a more cinematic, action-focused approach—and it works. A fantastic game and an easy 9/10.

8.7/10. An amazing spectacle of an entry that places its cinematic prowess on the frontlines. Despite its lacking RPG nature, the combat keeps you coming back for more. It takes pride in its Devil May Cry DNA and provides a relatively deep battle experience for those looking to dive deeper.

Well not much to say, I saw the trailers and thought wow this looks way better than the first set of trailers, but after playing I was disgusted by what I got. The game features Clive as your one and only playable character and to make matters worse the level system and customization is bare bones, the game is stupid easy and requires no thought other than mash faster, enemy attacks broadcast so large they make you feel like your a dark souls character with sonic speed and harder game? Nah just more HP inject mobs with more HP... the cut scenes are waaaay too long so if you like a show get some popcorn cause you'll be here for a while. Finishing my thoughts it's a terrible RPG not bad for an action game but that's not what was advertised and removing elements, status effects, and other party members and a meaningful level system just makes it just another action game. If you love the rush and thrill of Devil may cry and just want to plow through a dark and twisted story this game is for you, but if your looking for Final Fantasy your at the wrong place.

Final Fantasy’s first crack at pure action-RPG combat plays exceptionally well, and has the worldbuilding and cinematic flair to ensure that you’ll want to push through even the occasionally bloated encounter.

Nothing short of a technical marvel, Clive Rosfield and Torgal are among some of the best character action duos and their 70-hour epic adventure across Valisthea will forever be remembered in Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XVI is a fantastic adventure, but slightly irregular. There are some aspects that prevent it from being on the podium with the best entries in the franchise, but, when it is over, it leaves a great aftertaste that makes you forget about those imperfections.

Final Fantasy 16 is a massive game that, in many ways, feels like a response to years of rocky terrain. This is one of the most beloved series in gaming, but one that has had big ups and downs, especially in recent memory.

Final Fantasy XVI delivers on the “action” side of its action-RPG formula. A fierce and fast-paced combat system makes for the series’ most exciting stab at real-time swordplay yet, while its blockbuster Eikon fights rank among some of gaming’s most awe-inspiring battles. But there’s a general flatness surrounding those exhilarating highs, as shallow RPG hooks and dated design leave a promising evolution for the series stuck in the past.

Side quests are boring I feel like I’m doing the same thing over and over again. Cinematic fight’s though are nice.

While visually beautiful, Square completely forgot to include RPG elements in their newest cornerstone RPG franchise title. Combat is simple button mashing, TONS of QTE events distract from the best visuals in the game, and a complete lack of interesting exploration or sidequests make this the weakest Final Fantasy to date. The two best characters the game has to offer, Cid and Jill, get sidelined in favor of the most boring combat I've experienced in a Final Fantasy title.
