Highguard is a game that demonstrates that a new multiplayer concept alone is insufficient. While the premise is interesting, the developers failed to strike the right balance. The 3v3 battles did not help the game at launch, and there was little content. The game may never recover from its poor start.

Highguard is definitely not a bad game. But it’s also not the kind of game that opens a new era. And honestly, expecting every game to redefine a genre would be absurd anyway. That’s why you should give this already free game at least a chance, because it does include some gameplay elements that might genuinely surprise you. Outside of those, it delivers an experience that’s fairly close to a classic FPS.

Honestly, Highguard feels like a major swing and a miss. The biggest issue is that it’s just boring; you spend most of the match wandering around barren a map where nothing really happens until the very end. The technical side is rough, too. The graphics are standard, and the audio is either bland or annoying, with obnoxiously loud footsteps. It tries to be a “jack of all trades” but ends up **** at all of **** gameplay loop doesn’t save it, either. The gunplay is mediocre in the sense that a full clip is needed to break an enemy shield. Loot is super basic, and the characters are uninspired with designs and abilities that feel reused from other games. The 3v3 format feels off, it really should be 4v4 or 5v5 and it’s made worse by people leaving in the first five minutes, which basically guarantees a loss. The only upside is that the game and the first battle pass are free, but otherwise, it’s a forgettable experience executed poorly.

Highguard is a top-notch PvP shooter, not your average fare, but rather a highly creative and unique game concept whose main mode blends three phases into a virtually ever-changing gameplay experience. Individual gameplay elements, such as the armor system, might initially seem disconcerting, but prove their worth in practice. Further improvements and new content are also to be expected and could elevate an already strong online action game to an even more outstanding one.

Highguard is undoubtedly a unique proposition in the world of live service and online shooter games, effectively silencing those who expected something derivative. It's clear that this experience isn't for everyone and lacks the diversity to be truly engaging at launch. This makes it a risky gamble. Nevertheless, Highguard was created with passion and will offer anyone willing to give it a try some truly great moments thanks to its well-crafted gameplay loop. But above all, it conveys the feeling that it was created with care and dedication.

This game is great! The core gameplay and mechanics are a blast to play. It’s like capture the flag but with guns in a medieval landscape. The game runs smoothly online. Matchmaking is good. I love the art direction. Wholesome, competitive fun. That’s hard to find these days and it’s free to play! Like what more could you want? Seriously, the gaming community as a whole needs to check themselves.Good devs like these don’t deserve the hate that all of you are so quick to give because it’s a popular opinion. When I compare this game with overwatch it’s a little slower and more forgiving. Same with Apex legends and Marvel Rivals. Overall this has the potential to be more enjoyable than all those games. I enjoy looting in between fights and trying to strategize my build and approach lines. Haters going to hate but the truth is most of them haven’t played more than a few matches. If they gave overwatch the same treatment it would be dead too. 10/10 just to spite the haters.

Highguard is a competent shooter that tries to appeal to too many people and thus stumbles over its own feet.

Highguard is a smart, messy experiment. When its two-phase loop hits the right density and coordination, the Shieldbreaker turns matches into tense, goal-driven sieges, and the gunplay has the bite to carry the climax. But that same structure can stretch into long prep stretches and noticeable downtime, especially in 3v3 and solo queue, where timing and intent rarely line up. On PC it holds up well, yet the world and Wardens still lack the kind of personality that sticks. Bottom line: a solid concept with rough edges, best for players who want a deliberate raid shooter rather than nonstop firefights.

Wildlight Entertainment has actually created a concept with immense potential to revolutionize the industry, combining multiple game modes and elements into something truly unique. However, the whole thing crashes and burns due to a shaky foundation of gameplay mechanics and a multitude of other issues. To put it simply, Highguard was a gamble that was revealed a little too early and needs much more time in the oven to become the next big thing.

Wildlight Entertainment's PvP raid shooter mash-up of multiplayer elements offers a repetitive, uninspired and dull time.

Love it. Best multiplayer shooter since Alex legends. Movement and shooting are top notch. The mount system is incredible. New style of gameplay is fun to learn.

Most original hero shooter in the last 2 days. I'll be accepting apologies in the next 48 hours.

Highguard is fast, fluid, and has top-notch gunplay that feels as responsive as Apex or Titanfall. The movement is solid, and using mounts to get across the massive maps is an incredible mechanic that leads to some high-tension chase moments. I especially loved the "shield clashing" phase; that buildup before the barrier falls makes the combat feel unique and exciting. Since it’s free-to-play, it’s worth a shot to form your own opinion, but for me, the game has too much "dead time" that kills the momentum. Between the three-minute base prep and the tedious resource mining, it feels like there’s way too much busy work and mindless padding that keeps you away from the actual shooting. The art style feels a bit disjointed, mixing medieval fantasy with assault rifles in a way that’s kind of incoherent, and the generic character designs don't really help it stand out. On top of that, the long respawn timers and the fact that 3v3 matches happen on maps built for 32v32 make every death feel like a frustrating, sisyphean trek across empty space. There’s zero narrative context to explain why you’re even fighting, and with the recent news of studio layoffs, it’s hard to feel confident in its future. I haven't played it much, and honestly, I don't have the "want" to keep playing.
SummaryFrom the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall, comes Highguard: a PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens, arcane gunslingers sent to battle for control of a mythical continent. There they'll clash against rival Warden crews for possession of the Shieldbreaker, then break into and destroy the enemy base to ... Read More
