Classic, Great score, Perfect villain for Cap and overall a great introduction for one of the Avengers. Returning to the film I believe allows those who found it not so great to really appreciate it.

It’s the most "polite" film in the Marvel pantheon. It works well—it’s clean, smells like apple pie and vintage patriotism—but it falters with its villain. Red Skull devolves from a global threat into a caricature who scurries away every time he spots a colorful shield.
The narrative suffers from that typical rush of someone forced to "explain the origins" just to sprint toward next year’s crossover. Watching it is like drinking a glass of warm milk: reassuring and sweet, but an hour later, you’re already craving something with more kick (like a Winter Soldier). Still, it remains an indispensable pillar, if only for proving that you can be a superhero without being an arrogant billionaire in a suit.

This movie was quite interesting, had a lot of really cool battle sequences. And Captain America is like my favorite Avenger. Although lots of the characters didn't reveal their signature looks towards the near end of the movie, besides that, good movie.

A flag-waving spectacle of forced pride: A 3.0-star shield that couldn't block the cringe.110728 (3.0)I watched this in the theater in 2011. Back then, I used to run to the cinema for any Marvel release with pure excitement, but this one was a massive mismatch for my taste. The very reason it became such a huge hit in the US was exactly why I hated it: that blatant, unapologetic American exceptionalism. It felt too "shameless" and predictable, lacking the "chewy," complex tension I usually look for. While the production value was there, the "Captain America" bravado felt a bit too forced for me to fully embrace. A skeptical 3.0 for a hero who was a bit too "Star-Spangled" for my liking.

Can we stop for a minute and appreciate how absolutely SPOT ON this movie is to the comics and the history of Cap? I mean if this is where we are starting - how high are we going?! Great start to the MCU!

Captain America: The First Avenger delivers exactly what it needs to: a clean, straightforward origin story with a likeable lead and a nostalgic World War II backdrop. Chris Evans fits the role surprisingly well, giving Steve Rogers an earnestness that never feels forced. The film doesn’t try to be overly complex and benefits from that simplicity, moving from skinny Steve’s determination to the creation of Captain America in a way that feels smooth and **** action is fine, the pacing is steady, and the retro atmosphere gives it a unique identity compared to other Marvel entries. Red Skull is a bit underused, but the movie still manages to set up Cap’s personality and values without dragging things out. Overall, it’s a solid, engaging introduction that does exactly what an origin story should, without unnecessary twists or complications. No spoilers.

Captain America: The First Avenger is a really enjoyable action film that adds to and deepens the beginnings of the MCU. I really love the backstory that Captain America has, and how he became the super hero we know him as. Hugo Weaving as Red Skull is a huge bonus as well. This is an Action Epic set in the past of where the MCU usually takes place. Captain America has to travel across the globe in this Adventure Epic to save the world. The threat that Red Skull puts on in this Epic tale is beyond evil the world currently knows at that point. As a superhero, Captain America is a One-Person Army Action hero that needs no one else for this tale. The way he obtains his powers and some of the technology in this Sci-Fi Epic is very interesting. Watch the story of how Captain America became the Superhero we know him as now. There are plenty of location to behold the Urban Adventure. There is a lot of Action throughout the movie, even before Steve Rogers become Captain America. This is Adventure through time, but mostly set in the past. The world changes permanently in this Sci-Fi film.

Fantastic origin movie for one of the greatest superheroes. This movie nails Caps origin story, and although there are so many world war movies, it still keeps the setting fresh and enjoyable. The main characters are memorable, the action sequences are entertaining, and each scene carries weight. The standard hero tropes are in full effect with Marvels golden child, but you still feel compelled to walk away a better person.

I don't really know why, but I really like this Captain America film. I like the characters, the 1940s setting and the story. If I think about it, not much happens, but at least what's on offer is good. This is really the film where I think Steve Rogers could show his personality and thoughts.

Captain America: The First Avenger is a well-crafted superhero origin story that sets up Steve Rogers' journey with a strong narrative foundation. The plot is engaging, blending a classic underdog story with a war-time adventure that feels both grounded and larger than life. The pacing is solid, moving through Steve's transformation and early missions without dragging, though some action sequences are presented in montage form, which makes them feel a bit rushed. The script does a great job of keeping the dialogue natural, mixing heartfelt moments with humor and sincerity, making Steve an instantly likable character. Joe Johnston’s direction leans heavily into a 1940s aesthetic, capturing the era’s charm while delivering the high-energy action expected from a Marvel film. The cinematography enhances this old-school feel with warm tones and well-framed action shots that keep everything clear and visually engaging. Some sequences feel a little stylized in a way that makes them stand out from the rest of the MCU, but that actually works in the film’s favor, giving it a unique identity. The balance between practical effects and CGI is well-handled, making the world feel lived-in rather than overly polished. Chris Evans absolutely nails the role, bringing depth to Steve Rogers beyond just being a strong, noble hero. His performance is supported by a great cast, with standout moments from Hayley Atwell and Tommy Lee Jones. The score, composed by Alan Silvestri, adds to the film’s grand yet sentimental tone, making key moments hit harder. Overall, this is one of the stronger solo MCU entries, delivering a mix of action, heart, and a well-paced origin story that sets the stage for one of Marvel’s most iconic characters.

This movie was an amazing origin film for Captain America. Based on his comic origins, the movie kept to many of the comics' origin and kept it as close to the source material. As the movie follows Steve Rogers through his early army days, fans can't help but root for Steve Rogers' kind heart and his acts of heroism and compassion, ultimately making him our Captain America.

Film with a classic plot for its genre but well done, especially in the characterization and evolution of its protagonist. The historical context gives something more to the plot of the film, with more realistic tones than many other films of its genre

Captain America: The First Avenger is a fun movie with good protagonists, but a story following an establishes pattern. The protagonists are very likeable, they are well-written. My favourite character is Steve, the main protagonist, which doesn't always happen, but he is a great one. The antagonists on the other hand are very stereotypical, because I've seen too many like them. The story is enjoyable, and it has some twists that I wasn't expecting. The cinematography is good, the pacing too. The production design looked amazing and the visual effects were finally really great. I love the cast, all of them, but my favourite was Hayley Atwell. It's just a joy for me to see her. Tommy Lee Jones too. Captain America: The First Avenger is a great setup for the big event, I enjoyed it pretty much.

Easily the most faithful interpretation of the character ever to grace the screen, although it admittedly doesn't have much in the way of competition. Cap's is a story that's terribly tricky to adapt from the printed page without slipping into an ocean of cheese somewhere along the way, and though this latest attempt does lose its footing from time to time, it always seems to recover with grace and dignity. This better represents a living, breathing comic book than any of the MCU's preceding efforts, with motorcycle chases, laser beams, crisply uniformed enemy forces and iconic freeze frames around every corner. Chris Evans lives his role as the star-spangled Avenger, the white bread everyman with an unnervingly positive disposition, Hugo Weaving clearly relishes his chance to play the thoroughly evil, black leather-clad Red Skull and Tommy Lee Jones enjoys more than just a cameo as the brilliantly-cast drill sergeant in charge of the whole operation. Though I'd hoped for a more honest depiction of the period, as I think a genuine WW2 setting is when the Captain is truly in his element, it's tough to maintain that perspective when bright blue lights are firing from the enemy's hands throughout the picture. This is a solid effort, at least as good as I was hoping it would be, but not the heralding triumph it had the potential to become. Smack in the middle of summer blockbuster season was the right time and place for its debut.

Starts out as a curiously good genre exercise and winds up being an excellent tragedy. Chris Evans nails the assignment.

I don’t care what everyone says; I love this movie. Steve Rogers’ persona could be boring, cartoonish, or worse. Somehow, it works well. He’s believable, and so are the other characters. The action scenes are pretty good, and the romance just becomes emotional when I think about the end of ‘Endgame.’ It’s genuinely beautiful. Atmos-wise (the reason I’m rewatching all Marvel movies up to ‘Endgame’), it’s good. The height speakers are used in some moments, and the surround feels good. However, some scenes are clearly underrepresented, such as rain that doesn’t reflect on the Atmos speakers. But overall, it’s a cool experience.

I liked the movie. In the first phase of the MCU, when they were mostly weak or did not use their potential properly, this one was satisfactory for me. Among the other works of 2011, it appeared more successful.
The movie is based on Origin. It means that Origin shows Captain America well and gives a reason why a humble man should wear tight clothes and go to the battlefield.
I can boldly say that it goes even beyond the expectations and the comic version of Captain America. That is, we are witnessing a more sympathetic Steve Rogers than the comic.
Although the movie has some weaknesses. I know that the movie is rated PG13, but for some age groups it might seem boring. What James Gunn managed to do is to make the whole family watch the movie. I also like the special effects. It did not come.
Other than that, secondary characters such as Peggy Carter or Arnim Zola and... they were all great. The chemistry of the two main characters was amazing. The villain was wonderful. Attractive games and... did I forget something?

It's not bad, but the moments of pay-off aren't really that big, and there are a few things I couldn't help but laugh at, like the montage where there's a whole bunch of that **** replacement dude looking ambitiously mean, or little hypocritical bits like "oh, I guess the car door is bullet proof even though the roof wasn't." The writing is the worst part (some good moments, overall incredibly spotty), followed by that superhero fakeness that sometimes makes movies like this unpalatable to people eager for cinema that's effective at making them think and feel. Overall, not a bad movie, but for me, it's better with friends to comment on the weak points of. I probably would've disappointed some Marvel fans with my natural reactions if I saw this in theaters.

its a fun movie it feels kind of like a parody of movies set during WW2 or at least a WW2 movie made for kids overall its pretty good though in the beginning of the movie Steve Rogers looks like he belongs in the uncanny valley especially and it definitely feels like that when he talks

A really not bad origin film that shows us only a small part of what we will then go to explore and see with perhaps the most successful character in the MCU.

The first half is some of the best content marvel has ever created. It's emotional, it has good themes, good characters, but after Steve saves Bucky it get very boring. It's the epitome of a mixed bag.

Surprisingly aesthetic. Both in creating a journey, both in creating friendships, new exciting characters, worlds, even if it's probably the most predictable MCU film ever, has the worst villains this world has seen and is mostly equal to the depth of a kiddie pool. Definitely good for once, not an amazing film, but an ok flick, I guess. It's worthy of a 6 for me. (I may overrate it, tho (And I'm pretty sure I just did that..))

Captain America: The First Avenger may seem too boring. But it is favorably distinguished by the setting. He seems like something fresh thanks to him. The story is simple, and there are not many connections with the main Marvel film universe at first glance. Many more will be scared off by the protracted development of the plot, the first 40 minutes of timekeeping literally nothing happens.

Captain America: The First Avenger. I'm a simple guy from Brooklyn. A good solo film about one of the very first Avenger. The very image of the Captain is a little boring and does not fall in love with himself, and the story itself is very interesting.

Joe Johnston was the perfect choice to head up the first Captain America feature (well, not counting the Albert Pyun one, but who is?). His experience with classic period-piece action/adventure films pays off in spades with this very Indiana Jones-like superhero film set during World War II. In fact, I'd say it's better than exactly half of the Indiana Jones movies. While the second half of Captain America is nowhere near a strong as the first, the first half features as fun of a superhero origin story as in any superhero movie.

no spoilers: I borrowed this movie on amazon. Because i wanted to get into the avengers universe. i thought if this is such a successful series, then it must be good, right? well, i didn't think the first 30 min were bad at all, but then it went downhill. after about an hour, i wondered if this movie was purely a children's film, because it was so shallow and dull. i think the avengers are probably just not for me. i wonder who these movies are for and who likes them. are there really adults who find this good?
