Savannah is a deep philosophical cinema in which almost every frame and dialogue carries a hidden meaning. This is pure Kronenberg: meditative, gloomy and designed for a trained viewer. For the rest - boredom and misunderstanding. After watching, there is apathy and inner disappointment, but not from the film, but from what it reveals in you. Vincent Cassel is stable, but it is Diana Krueger who pulls the whole movie - her performance as sisters is impressive and plausible. Visually, "Savan" is not striking, but it is not necessary - its strength lies in the philosophical idea and atmosphere of alienation. You can only recommend it to Cronenberg fans and those who are looking for movies for reflection, not for entertainment.

Until Dawn is a disappointment for fans of the original game. There is only one character and a couple of references left from the original source, which causes irritation and a sense of deception. The plot is banal, and the behavior of the characters boils down to the formulaic actions of stupid teenagers, brought to the point of absurdity. The film does not evoke emotions - only indifference and boredom. The cast is mediocre, only Peter Stormare stands out, but even he doesn't save. Visually - a typical B-horror with cheap production and secondary solutions. The film is quickly forgotten and leaves no trace. Without a connection with the game, it loses all meaning - there is simply no one to advise "Until Dawn".

Havoc is a template street action movie, entirely assembled from clichés. The plot is predictable from the first scene to the finale, the film does not try to surprise and causes rather an emotionless perception - you watch it by inertia. Tom Hardy, for whom many will turn on the picture, plays without much return, and it's disappointing. The only thing that really works is the battle scenes: they are staged in a driving way and look spectacular, which at least somehow saves the viewing. If it weren't for the action, the film could be called a complete failure. In general, "Havoc" is only suitable for one-time viewing for fans of the genre, but you should not expect anything more from it.

Ash is a failure in the Sci-Fi horror genre. The plot is boring and linear: the intrigue of the first minutes quickly dies, leaving the viewer without interest. There is no suspense, ideas are not developed, and the film does not surprise with anything. The cast is mediocre, the main character barely copes with the role. The only plus is working with light: with its help they tried to hide cheap decorations made "of cardboard". But it's not enough to pull out the project. As a result, it's not a horror or science fiction, but an empty shell without content. You can't recommend "Ash": the film gives neither emotions, nor ideas, nor atmosphere.

Platoon is one of the best Hollywood war films, where you can feel honesty and realism, a rarity for Hollywood, although European films still show it more strongly. The film evokes calmness and acceptance, showing that the events of war are inevitable, for which it is worth thanking Oliver Stone. Charlie Sheen played the main role well, but the emotional anchor is held by William Defoe, and Tom Berenger masterfully created an antagonist that the viewer hates. Stone avoids Hollywood clichés, focusing on petty emotions and relationships of soldiers, rather than on outrageous scenes. "Platoon" is a film about what a person becomes in war, and it is definitely worth watching, especially for those who appreciate deep, honest war cinema.

Hellraiser is the beginning of the cult franchise, where the lore of the senobites is almost not disclosed, but the very idea of a parallel world is impressive. The film has not passed the test of time: it does not cause fear, and the makeup of those years now looks comical. The cast is classic for B-horror, without outstanding roles, but the atmosphere is unique - even after years, the film is able to surprise. He doesn't rely on suspense or screamers, but clings to his concept and style. Fans of the genre and those who are tired of modern horror movies are definitely worth watching: the budget and age of the picture do not matter - the impressions remain for a long time.

"Mickey 17" offers an absurd plot, where the main character constantly dies and is reborn, showing how a person is used as a consumable. Initially, it seems like a comedy, but as it develops, a dystopian message is felt. Pattinson plays convincingly, perfectly distinguishing his doubles. Visually, the film is weak - the spaceship and the colony look modest, limited to corridors and several rooms. A black comedy with an unnatural Happy End and an antagonist, exaggeratedly greedy, but an interesting idea.

Last Breath is a typical chamber thriller. Who plays his main trump card all skillfully - it is based on real events. That's why Last Breath is nice to watch, here the story is very simple and down-to-earth, but you believe in it. I don't know why, but I've always been attracted to movies about diving, but when they try to show ordinary work so carefully and simply, it causes respect. Last Breath is clearly not the movie for which it is worth running to watch in the cinema at the release. But it's a great movie for those who like chamber thrillers. Without murders, violence and other elements of any modern tripper, Last Breath keeps suspense. And it's worthy of respect.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is relevant even more than 20 years after its release. And it will always be relevant. Everything is done at a decent level here. The story is interesting until the very end, the cast is stellar, the presentation of the film is great. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, although it has a non-linear narrative, any viewer will build a storyline without any problems. The film will be watched by more than one generation, for one simple reason - it talks about things that are beyond generations and time. Even if you don't like romantic movies, dramas in the classic sense, just watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He goes beyond these classic frameworks of genres and it's just Jim Carrey's best acting work.

The Electric State is an attempt to make a dystopia and partially post-polypsis for children of primary school age. And the target audience of the project is read immediately. Everything here is either cardboard or maximally hypertrophied. Watching The Electric State without a child is almost torture. The Electric State is the most stupid film according to the script. I don't know the original. But the film clearly simplified the whole story and the setting of the world to the maximum. The cast is not bad, but everyone plays for nothing. And then you see the project budget of 320 million and you don't understand anything else. I can't recommend this movie to anyone, except for children who don't understand the more adult presentation yet.

Conclave is a good chamber drama. The movie is clearly not for everyone. After all, there is almost no action here, only continuous dialogues and reflections. The plot is predictable from the very beginning. But the very presentation of the film without haste, Ray Fiennes' great acting and beautiful Vatican scenery do their job. Conclave is based primarily on the realism of what is happening in the frame. You start to believe in the story on the screen. And as a result, it turns out that Conclave became one of the best films of 2024. In 2024, everyone only discussed Anora. And I haven't heard anything about Conclave in the infopole. Which still has a very long introduction, the beginning is more than 1/3 of the film. Mediocre cast, of course I'm glad that several Russian actors starred in the Hollywood film of the Oscar-ander. But he's mediocre. The story in which the script revolves is as straight as a tunnel. There are 2 strong scenes for the whole movie, one of which is the final one. And the story itself is secondary. It's already been in movies hundreds of times. Only the circumstances and decorations have changed. The essence is the same. Anora is the most overrated project of 2024.

Marlowe is a level B neo-noir thriller. Everything is done here at an average level, there is nothing outstanding. Almost an ordinary action movie with Liam Neeson. Only here there are many times fewer action scenes and there is a historicality of the environment due to the time of the action. There are almost all the external elements **** neo-noir thriller. But there is no main thing - a strong story. Marlowe is boring to watch, the characters are flat, their motivation and story are not interesting to follow. The character of the main character Philip does not change in any way for the whole movie. The main antagonist as such is absent, the plot connection between the scenes is mediocre. Marlowe does not stand any comparison with any representative of neo-noir films of this genre, even within the framework of 21st century paintings. Marlowe is a cheat movie.

For me, Maelstrom turned out to be a passing drama that doesn't captivate me in any way. The plot here is boring and almost does not develop in any way. Then, of course, a love line appears, which slightly speeds up the plot, but it is merged in the finale. I don't understand why I turned on Maelstrom and what I expected from him. On the one hand, I wanted to see how Villeneuve shot and how he came to his last films before he took up Dune, on the other hand, Maelstrom is a film for a very narrow audience. And if you treat the first like me, it's better to pass by.

The Ninth Gate is a mystical thriller with Joni Depp. And the acting of the still young Depp is the best thing in the movie. In all other respects, it's a second-rate thriller, which at first has not the most boring tie. And even tries to captivate the viewer somehow. There is both a biblical theme and Satanism. But all this is presented weakly and rather caricatured. The plot develops slowly. And the final third of the movie is just crumpled. The finale is predictable and boring. So it turns out that it seems to be a film by Roman Polanski, on the topic of part Satanism, on which he has already made good films before. But the film is completely secondary and it's disappointing. It can be recommended for viewing only to fans of Johnny Depp's acting.

Rosemary's Baby is a cult psychological thriller by Polanski. The film is somewhat outdated even after almost 60 years. Simple but intriguing plot. Magnificently served suspense, which is pumped up unnoticed, but the final third of the film is literally impregnated with it. The film calmly survived the time, it looks relevant even now. Of course, now the plot of the film is somewhat outdated, society is no longer so patriarchal in the United States, people have become more uninhibited. And many plot moments will not seem logical to the modern viewer. And Rosemary's Baby is probably one of the most striking examples of Satanism in cinema. And most importantly, this example is very realistic and not cartoonish as is customary in most films.

Sleepy Hollow is a classic by Tim Burton. And also a wonderful young Joni Depp. Sleepy Hollow is the brightest example of Victorian Gothic, while it is not shot in urban scenery. Good cast, although predictable, but interestingly presented. There is mysticism, where without it Burton has. Sleepy Hollow is all what we love Burton for. You can immediately determine whether you like this genre or not from this movie. This is the gold standard. You can pick on the protracted timing, the predictability of the plot, rather mediocre action scenes. But who cares? When you see a young (with hot actor's eyes) Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's movie. Only the Germans could shoot Downfall. Not Western cinema, not Russian cinema will be able to convey this agony of retribution that overtook **** in the last days before the fall of the Reich. And although for the most part, the mass audience associates Downfall rather with the meme of rabid **** on the map, in fact it is an excellent military film without action. There's not much of it here, but rather in the background. Downfall about human relationships. I can't say that the authors of Downfall had an idea to whitewash **** and his entourage. But everything is so well filmed here, so realistic that you believe it. And all this is filmed and presented as abstracted as possible from politics, ideology and condemnation. Law Abiding Citizen is an action-packed action movie that became an example for subsequent projects of the genre. Law Abiding Citizen successfully combines everything a good action movie needs with elements of a thriller: an excellent star cast, beautiful action scenes, suspense in the final third of the film is not inferior to good thrillers. Law Abiding Citizen is nice to watch because there is everything here and it is correctly arranged. As a spectator, you don't get tired of action scenes, because there are not so many of them here, but they are mature and natural. There is no legal drama here, because these are dialogues of the eight for 5-10 minutes. The suspense is perfectly integrated here. It is served only at the very end. And the main thing is how the viewer's sympathy for the main character can change from the beginning of the film to its end. This is one of the best fighters of the zeros. Militants must have a good "word of mouth" to get a good reputation on the release. But it's definitely not about Road House. I didn't hear anything about the movie at all until it was released. Why is Amazon always like this, and Apple has new movies known in advance? Road House is a good action movie in its own way. There is a normal cast, a charismatic protagonist, good action scenes. Road House is also not delayed in terms of timing and plot development. It's a great movie to watch for one evening. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a classic thriller by Fincher. Yes, the film stands out from his other works, you can feel the Scandinavian trace in it. But every element of the film is shot as Fincher does. There is a small share of mysticism, there is a good suspense, especially in the final third of the film. Not a bad cast with an emphasis on European actors. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has nothing to scold for, it's a very good thriller. Maybe a little delayed, and sagging in the plot in the middle. But the most correct ending, which adds realism. Well, the plus is that this is an adult movie in some age, there are also sexual scenes with violence and torture and incest. This is necessary so that the viewer can get an emotional connection with what is happening. In modern films, in favor of age ratings, this is increasingly being scored.

Enemy is one of Denis Villeneuve's best films before he left to shoot AAA blockbusters. Psychological thriller with elements of surrealism. In general, the idea with doubles in movies is not new, but the way it is shown in Enemy looks realistic. Also, the doubles are completely opposite to each other psychologically. Jake Gyllenhaal perfectly plays both characters, he manages to make the viewer believe that these are completely different people. The film is clearly not for a wide audience, very slow melancholic pace of narration. In general, Enemy reminded me of an earlier work of Villeneuve - Maelstrom. The emphasis here is on dialogues and acting. And surprisingly, the actors coped with their task, but just shot but with taste. Secondly, there is an unusual approach to time travel. Rather, there is a story about a car that predicts the future. And this is also not badly inscribed in the plot. Given that the film was clearly shot for a small amount, the end result is not bad. This is an immortal genre that is appreciated by both critics and viewers. The cast is good, the picture looks great, the sound is beautiful. Greyhound can be used as an excellent benchmark for checking TV screens and tablets. The picture looks very juicy on OLED. As for the film itself, it's a classic war drama, fortunately without Hollywood pathos. There is suspense, but it is predictable. But in general I liked Ghosts of Mars, such films were made only in the 90s and early 20s. You can watch it only if you like Carpenter's work.

The Long Good Friday

The Long Good Friday as a textbook for Guy Ritchie. Now I understand where Guy Ritchie got his inspiration from when he created his first and best films. The Long Good Friday is a great example of a crime drama. There is also a thriller, a comedy and a drama. The Long Good Friday perfectly jangles genres. If at first I expected to see something similar to Get Carter movies. He got something completely different. First of all, in The Long Good Friday the main role is played by the wonderful performance of Bob Hoskins. He literally got hooked on the role. And although The Long Good Friday ends quite predictably, it does not prevent you from watching the movie without breaking away. If you like Guy Ritchie's movies, especially Gentlemen. But you should definitely watch The Long Good Friday. It was already removed more than 40 years ago. And it hasn't aged in any way, it's still relevant.

The Third Man is a live classic and just one of the best British movies I've seen. At first, you don't understand what can captivate a film shot for almost 80 years in Vienna, destroyed after the war. And then you can't get distracted anymore. A perfect example of European post-war noir. Great detective movie. Excellent acting by Joseph Cotten. Nowadays, noir detectives don't shoot like that. The Third Man's special charm is conveyed by the place of action. Not only does the action take place not in the golden age of Hollywood, but in Europe. So also in Vienna divided into several occupation zones. If you like noir and detective stories, you must watch The Third Man. This is one of the best films of both its genre and the 20th century.

Blink Twice is suddenly a good psychological thriller. At first, the film is not impressive at all, but it begins to be revealed in the second half. And although already in the first third of the film it becomes clear the main plot twist to watch Blink Twice does not become boring. Unfortunately, Blink Twice can't boast **** female cast, it is very inferior to the male half. And this is a serious assumption for a film like Blink Twice, in which the plot is based on the confrontation between men and women in a closed and isolated place. Blink Twice tries to roll its main twist again in the final, but as for me it doesn't work anymore. Blink Twice surprised, I didn't expect anything higher than category B from the film at all. And then it turned out to be a good psychological thriller. Yes, the first third of the film is delayed, but it is compensated by the second half.

Wolfs is a mediocre comedy action movie that pulls out an acting duo. Wolfs would be a classic B-movie in the comedy and action genre if it weren't for the cast. Brad Pitt and George Clooney, who played well as usual, pull the Wolfs from the bottom. The story itself is secondary and primitive. It's already so often seen in films of this genre that you'll be surprised if it's different. Wolfs is watching in one breath. This is an ordinary passing action movie that you will forget the next day. The open finale implies a sequel. But I don't think the sequel will work. For the second time, the actors are unlikely to be able to pull out a passing B-action movie.

Crash movie disappointment. Strong cast and several Oscars won. And in fact, Crash is a set of small stories somehow related to each other. But all that happens in Crash is raising the topic of racism and nothing more. Film almanacs are difficult to shoot because you need to write several stories well at once. But in Crash I can't remember more than one after a couple of months. Although I still remember other film almanacs, take the same Death Trilogy from Alejandro Iñárritu. Maybe I just don't understand this topic with racism in the United States, maybe it's really so acute. There is not much racism in my country. But nevertheless, Crash cannot be called a whole movie. There are a couple of interesting stories and their intersection. But in everything else, the film is secondary.

I don't understand the hype around The Substance. Yes, I was interested in looking at him because it's Demi Moore's first high-profile first role. But I don't share this delight of critics about The Substance. I don't think it will be a future body horror classic. The film is secondary to almost everything. He doesn't cause much disgust like many representatives of his genre. The Substance rolls into a farce by the end of the film, turning into a teenage trash movie. Yes, there is a good work with the style of the 80s, there are a couple of memorable scenes and a good acting of Demi Moore. But in general, The Substance is an absolutely empty movie that I already forgot after a couple of months. Perhaps years will pass and the film will acquire a cult status due to the fact that nowadays they don't shoot like that, or I don't understand anything in cinema at all.

Slingshot is a typical representative of soft fiction. As a Sci-Fi film, it is quite mediocre, the scenery is mediocre and the story itself does not attract the viewer in any way. As a chamber thriller, Slingshot is already revealed as a good movie. For the most part, Slingshot is a movie about the dialogue of 2-3 characters. The plot is primitive and quite predictable. But the main thing that happened here is the final. The movie literally has a second bottom. Over the last 10-15 minutes, the situation has changed by 180 degrees and it was perfectly conveyed. Yes, in the end, everything turns out to be true as they said at first, but it's even more interesting. Unfortunately, Slingshot is a one-time movie, such a trick with the finale can be played only once. For fans of closed chamber films, Slingshot can be confidently recommended. But Sci-Fi Slingshot fans may find it boring.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a story that the franchise can fall even lower. It seems that the release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008 should have made it clear that the franchise should be released. But Dial of Destiny proves that you can shoot even worse. There is nothing in this movie that everyone loves Indiana Jones for. Well, except for Harrison Ford, but he's already tired of all this. Evil Russian communists exchanged for ****. Only this time the **** are more like clowns. Action scenes in general don't look bad, but everything else is secondary. As well as the ending in general. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is an example of Disney's greed. An attempt to milk the franchise to the last coin. But from the outside, if you open the movie poster, everything looks great. Star cast, Harrison Fort and a new story.

The Crow is a relaunch of the franchise that has already buried it. The Crow is probably the worst movie of 2024. There is literally nothing from the original franchise. A love story of 2 measurements, which was not revealed in any way. But the whole plot is based on the fact that this is a suddenly unreal love story that death cannot destroy. The main antagonist, who in general causes only laughter and tears. The final scene of the climax battle that lasts 30 seconds only confirms the words about the main character and antagonist. Mediocre action scenes from zero movies. The absence of neo-noir is the main mistake. The first half of the film is likely to force most viewers to leave the session or turn off the viewing. The only not bad moment is the action scene in the theater. The Crow causes pain and disappointment.

Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a secondary film by Guy Ritchie. We can say that this is an attempt to shoot Inglourious Basterds from Guy Ritchie. Only here it's even worse with the plot and motivation of the characters, there is no clear antagonist, there is no beautiful and pathetic finale. In general, Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a mediocre film if removed from its title, the fact that this is a new film by Guy Ritchie and that the main role is played by Henry Cavill. Henry Cavill is the only one who tries and tries, but there is too little on the screen. A film in which everything comes down to some kind of sur, it is impossible to take it seriously. As in general and the same Inglourious Basterds. But there is almost nothing to laugh about in the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. You can watch it once, but you will forget about the movie the next day.

Oldeuboi is a classic of both Korean cinema and all Asian cinema. An example of a movie that has not aged in more than 20 years. It's still relevant. Moderately cruel, with a well-built plot that does not subside for 2 hours. With an excellent open ending and a plot twist that works. Oldeuboi tells a rather simple story, visually the film is not able to surprise much, the budget is 3 million dollars. The question arises, how can Oldeuboi surprise? And the fact that this is literally one of the best revenge movies. Watching this movie, you get the feeling that you are watching "Kill Bill" by Tarantino, they are very similar in their meaning of revenge. Only in Oldeuboi revenge is shown through the strongest pain.

The Thing 2011 is a good example of how to make a decent prequel. A prequel that is partly a remake. In terms of plot and structure, the film is not much different from Carpenter's original. Of course, if you compare movies head-on, the prequel has more than one advantage. It is important to watch The Thing either before the original or with a long time delay. Watching these movies one after another is almost pointless, these are very similar movies. The 2011 version just tries to repeat most of the scenes in the modern entourage. And this can't be called a big minus, after all, it's not a bad horror, the idea with mimicry is not so popular in horror movies. The film can definitely be recommended for viewing to both fans of the genre and fans of Carpenter's original masterpiece.

Trap can be attributed in general to the successful films of M. Night Shyamalan. The plot of the film is divided into 2 parts. And the first part turned out well, it's a good thriller. The movie keeps you in suspense. In general, you believe what's happening on the screen, everything looks mostly realistic. But unfortunately, then comes the 2nd part of the movie. And the whole atmosphere of the film is falling apart. Trap slides into some kind of sur. On the one hand, it would be extremely difficult to shoot the whole film as part of one concert, on the other hand, all the tension disappears as soon as the main characters leave the concert. And the actions and strength of the main character of the singer are not very real at all. You stop believing in it. Maybe Shyamalan wanted to show Cooper's character from the other side. But it turned out extremely badly.
