News of the World6
Jun 13, 2023
There are some good performances here, but there really is nothing here to make it stand out from a story told many times before.
Jun 9, 2023
Spies in Disguise5
Jun 9, 2023
A rather generic kids movie that milks the James Bond as a pigeon routine for all it's worth. Unsurprisingly that wears thin pretty quickly.
Jun 5, 2023
Nope8
Jun 5, 2023
Peele certainly knows how to make an intriguing and suspenseful terror/horror movie, and that continues here but with a sci-fi twist.
May 26, 2023
Boston Strangler5
May 26, 2023
A dull, procedural crime drama that lacks any sense of fear or forboding for what is one of the most famous and horrifying crimes in U.S. history.
May 24, 2023
The Stranger9
May 24, 2023
A dark and atmospheric Aussie crime drama that is driven by two fantastic performances from it's leads Edgerton & Harris.
One of the best Australian movies in recent years.
Kudos to Sean Harris for pulling off one of the best Aussie accents by a non-Australian to be heard in movies.
May 23, 2023
Men4
May 23, 2023
The first half of this beautifully shot, creepy horror builds the suspense well in anticipation for what's to follow, it's a shame the second half of this movie is a pretentious, boring mess that is beyond absurd.
May 21, 2023
The Wonder6
May 21, 2023
What makes this movie worth watching is the performance of Florence Pugh and it's high level production values. The story itself is rather shallow and there are a lot of questions that are left unanswered
May 18, 2023
Jackass 4.55
May 18, 2023
Has a few funny moments, but on the whole, this is a rather insipid affair.
May 1, 2023
God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty8
May 1, 2023
A doco that does a fine job of not only exposing the hypocisy of the Falwells, but that of them endorsing Donald Trump and the knavish nature of Liberty University.
Jan 24, 2023
Toy Story 47
Jan 24, 2023
Undoubtedly the weakest movie of the franchise thus far, but there is still enough here to keep both kids and adults entertained. While the story and message is noteworthy the journey does hit a few flat spots along the way.
Jan 21, 2023
The Batman8
Jan 21, 2023
This gritty, dark take of the classic DC superhero has a number of similarities to Nolan's trilogy, but the portayal of Bruce Wayne as an introverted, almost "emo" type character is it's biggest point of difference. The relationship between Gordon and Batman has also been taken to another level and it works well, but the movie suffers from a few flat spots and is a tad long.
Jan 14, 2023
See How They Run5
Jan 14, 2023
The premise and style was clever but for a few jokes, this is a rather dull murder mystery.
Jan 6, 2023
Poltergeist9
Jan 6, 2023
A classic horror movie with a strong and moving story that relies on building the suspense and scares, over the gore and blood of other movies of the time in the same genre.
Jan 3, 2023
Vengeance6
Jan 3, 2023
The social commentary holds up well in this movie, as the murder mystery and character development are quite under-developed. Could of been so much better.
Jan 3, 2023
WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn7
Jan 3, 2023
Solid enough documentary that spends too much time on it's leader Adam Neumann, and not enough on the business side of the rise and fall of WeWork.
Jan 3, 2023
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent7
Jan 3, 2023
An entertaining ride in a movie that was written to be played by one man only, Nicolas Cage. While the plot could be more dynamic, this movie is about Cage is a role that's right in his wheelhouse.
Dec 25, 2022
Extra Ordinary7
Dec 25, 2022
For a movie about the supernatural and occult, there is plenty of charm in this dark and off-kilter comedy.
Dec 21, 2022
No Time to Die5
Dec 21, 2022
While Daniel Craig's turn as James Bond was on the whole a successful one, the last 2 efforts in this franchise have been a real disappointment. An under-developed villian along with a bloated and rather dull story really let this movie down.
Nov 24, 2022
The Protégé5
Nov 24, 2022
A movie that could of been something if somebody could of been bothered writing a story to go with it.
Nov 12, 2022
Nobody7
Nov 12, 2022
While the story here is rather simple, and we have seen this before (think John Wick), it's still an entertaining ride led by the underrated Odenkirk.
Oct 6, 2022
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom5
Oct 6, 2022
Thoe only thing that saves this from being a complete bomb is it's CGI. A cynical, predictable mess.
Oct 6, 2022
Cruella8
Oct 6, 2022
Better than I thought it would be. Arguably Disney's best prequel/live action re-make. An entertaining ride, led by Stone that is also enhanced by it's design and soundtrack.
Oct 2, 2022
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings7
Oct 2, 2022
Not a bad entry into the MCU, but it does at times seem rather forced, particularly it's humour.
Sep 20, 2022
Black Widow7
Sep 20, 2022
A belated stand alone movie for one of the more intriguing Avengers. While not outstanding it is a solid enough entry into the MCU.
Could easily see a spin-off series for David Harbour and his Red Guardian character if Disney is true to form.
Jul 31, 2022
The French Dispatch9
Jul 31, 2022
An ode to long form magazine writing. And a brilliantly funny one at that.
All the standard Wes Anderson traits are present, and are a joy, and when combined with the sharp, dry wit of the script delivered by it's stellar cast, we have one of 2021's best films.
Jul 22, 2022
Jurassic World6
Jul 22, 2022
A rather dull and cliche riddled popcorn blockbuster that is driven by it's CGI and very little else. Just a re-hash of the Jurassic Park movies in a new package.
Jul 21, 2022
Jurassic Park III5
Jul 21, 2022
Add a few new dinosaurs to a cut and paste chase movie and we get Jurassic Park III. Dull, predictable and not worth your time. The dino's looked good though.
Jul 17, 2022
The Lost World: Jurassic Park6
Jul 17, 2022
Predictable and uninspiring follow up to Jurassic Park. At the end of the day it's a rather superficial flick that's held together by it's CGI dinosuars.
Jul 17, 2022
Jurassic Park8
Jul 17, 2022
Classic 90's popcorn action flick. Spielberg is in his element here with Crichton novel and the chance to use his imagination & CGI to it's full extent.
Jul 6, 2022
Captain America: The First Avenger8
Jul 6, 2022
Chris Evans surprises in this action packed origin movie that remains one of the better Marvel movies.
May 16, 2022
The Suicide Squad9
May 16, 2022
Crass, noisy, violent but an utterly fun & crazy ride. While the key characters are a bizarre bunch of misfits and degenerates, James Gunn does a fantastic job of making them somehow endearing.
Apr 25, 2022
The Bad Guys7
Apr 25, 2022
While the plot is highly predictable, it makes up for it with it's engaging characters and brilliant animation.
Apr 5, 2022
Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King6
Apr 5, 2022
A rather paint by numbers documentary that focuses too much on conspiracy theories rather than the unregulated nature of such cryptocurrency exchanges.
Apr 1, 2022
Kajillionaire7
Apr 1, 2022
A meloncholy movie about self discovery that at times gets bogged down with it's slow pacing. The highlight though is the performance of Richard Jenkins as the neurotic head of the family.
Feb 5, 2022
Bird Box7
Feb 5, 2022
A polished thriller, that with a bit more thought at conception could of gone to the next level.
Feb 3, 2022
Take Shelter10
Feb 3, 2022
A brilliant and powerful movie that looks at mental health and societal judgement in a thought provoking manner.
A superb performance from Shannon, brilliantly shot and directed, this one of the most underrated movies of recent times.
Feb 3, 2022
The Iceman6
Feb 3, 2022
Michael Shannon does what he does best in this and bring great intensity, but he can't save this movie with it's half baked, disjointed story.
Feb 3, 2022
Cosmopolis3
Feb 3, 2022
Cronenberg is back to his obscure, out there ways but with this movie we just get a dull and exhaustive mess.
Feb 2, 2022
Enemy8
Feb 2, 2022
Gyllenhaal shines as he takes on the role of two characters in this weird (in a good way) and creepy tale directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Feb 2, 2022
The Invitation7
Feb 2, 2022
While far from perfect , this psychological thriller's strength lies in the way the scares slowly creep up on you.
Feb 2, 2022
The Guard8
Feb 2, 2022
The unlikely pairing of Cheadle and Murphy works in this clever and witty black comedy on murder and corruption.
Feb 2, 2022
Anomalisa7
Feb 2, 2022
A movie about a man's mundane life that takes a turn one night when he meets a stranger on a business trip.
One of the great strengths of this movie is it's use of stop motion animation and how much emotion is generated from the models.
Feb 2, 2022
The Armstrong Lie8
Feb 2, 2022
Gibney's doco on Lance Armstrong starts off about his comeback to cycling, but morphs into a fasinating look at this narcissistic bully and drug cheat who shows no remorse and those who enabled it.
Feb 2, 2022
The Counterfeiters9
Feb 2, 2022
A powerful movie the looks at the moral ambiguity of survival in the concentration camps of WWII.
One of 2008's best movies.
Feb 2, 2022
We Need to Talk About Kevin9
Feb 2, 2022
A powerful and at times disturbing look at the nature vs nurture debate, that is lead by the always brilliant Swindon and Ezra Miller.
Feb 2, 2022
The Informant!6
Feb 2, 2022
An interesting take on a true story, but it does seem to be stuck in 2nd gear despite a strong performance from Damon.
Feb 2, 2022
True Grit10
Feb 2, 2022
The Cohen brothers re-telling of the 1969 western is not only an improvement but a western masterpiece in it's own right.
Sharp writing with a touch of humour, excellent performances from it's three leads and beautifully shot this is a must see.
Jan 30, 2022
Buffalo Soldiers7
Jan 30, 2022
For the most part, this is a smart satire on the cold war, and the boredom of men of war in times of peace.
Jan 30, 2022
Doubt9
Jan 30, 2022
A fantastic, powerful drama that is fuelled by the gripping performances of it's three leads.
One of 2008's best movies.
Jan 30, 2022
Her7
Jan 30, 2022
As a fan of both Jonze and Phoenix, this movie just failed to excite me too much. The premise is great, but the slow drift into deep melancholy becomes a tad too tedious.
