The game is a 2D sandbox, which works like an immense laboratory of fun mechanics, through experimentation/interaction, to see what is possible to do with the fauna and flora of the environments. It's somewhat fun at first, but the structure lacks depth and ended up tiring me towards the end due to the repetitive and unrewarding exploration. Gets too formulaic. Also, I was never engaged enough to play more than 1 hour. The best parts were the Bowser Jr encounters, that gives a glimpse of how all these ideas could work much better in a more traditional format.

A very deep game, in my opinion both a good and bad thing. Of course, it is not a full platformer and it's trying to be but the amount of content this game has is sometimes a little stressful if you are like me that like to 100% games, especially platformers. Outside of that it plays really well, the music and art style are really charming it is one of the most beautiful games of the Switch catalog

Video games are most enjoyable when they combine creativity, fun gameplay, and memorable worlds. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a great example **** that succeeds in all of these areas. Through its unique storybook theme, engaging platforming, and charming visuals, the game provides an entertaining experience that stands out from many other **** of the game's biggest strengths is its creative storybook setting. The adventure takes place inside a magical book, allowing each level to feel like a page from a living story. This concept gives the game a sense of wonder and imagination, making players excited to see what each new chapter will bring. The environments are colorful and full of personality, helping the world feel magical and inviting.Another reason the game is so enjoyable is its gameplay. Players guide Yoshi through levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and collectibles. The controls are simple and easy to learn, but the challenges become more interesting as new mechanics are introduced. This balance makes the game accessible to younger players while still providing enough variety to keep experienced players **** game's visuals and atmosphere also contribute to its appeal. Bright colors, detailed environments, and expressive character animations create a cheerful mood throughout the adventure. Combined with a fun soundtrack, the game feels lively and enjoyable from beginning to **** conclusion, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a great game because of its imaginative storybook theme, entertaining gameplay, and charming presentation. Its creativity and fun design make it a memorable adventure for players of all ages and a worthy addition to the Yoshi series.

Very nothing game overall, the graphics and art style are fine. The soundtrack is forgettable and generic and most importantly the game just isn’t very interesting. Yoshi controls well but what you’re doing isn’t all that fun cataloging creatures.

Man sollte nicht den Fehler machen, dieses Spiel ständig mit anderen Yoshi-Titeln zu vergleichen. Auf seine ganz eigene Art ist es einfach genial.

This game is hard, not because it kills you, but because it makes you think. And with a rare abundance of content, innovation and charm, this is a GOTY contender for me

A game that actually lets you think for yourself, there’s no NPCs telling you what to do or where to go. You just explore, discover, strategize, etc. We need more fun games like this, that actually give you the freedom to figure it out.

Stupid fun videogames. Better than Mario Wonder, and more abstract. Beautiful colors, and lovely art. Puzzle based charm wins over star chasing.

This game is fantastic. People have been lamenting the fact that you can't die, which is true, yet also completely irrelevant, as this is by no means a traditional platformer. Rather than from mastering difficult platforming sections or boss battles, its difficulty comes from exploring every nook and cranny of these worlds so that you may uncover all the creature secrets. An endeavour that, without guides or buying all the hints in-game, will surely take some time. It's abundantly fun, creative, and yet another homerun for the Nintendo Switch 2.

technically yoshi and the mysterious book is the first of it's kind although it's very similar to my game life's a beach which was released in 2025. in life's a beach you discover hidden areas to complete challenges and then activate comedy movie sequences themed to the area. the game is about discovering secrets a la mario 64 or crash bandicoot. yoshi and the mysterious book has you scan a book for secrets although there more automatic. it would be better if the secrets didn't unlock as you progress but instead were explorable from the book from the get go. once you unlock a page you discover hidden information about interesting creatures and the game reeks of charm. yoshi and the mysterious book is a rare nintendo game that's more suited for fans of the original crash bandicoot trilogy for ps1 than nintendo fans where generally people do backwards long jumps in super mario 64 and movement tech is very important. observation is key in yoshi and the mysterious book. but what's great about the game is the unlockable system where you can unlock any part of the game depending on how many hidden secrets you discover about a part of nature or creature. the game can essentially be considered a flex completionist game where the goal is to collect everything but youre rewarded for finding secrets but you don't necessairly need to collect everything to enjoy it. the game uses ue5 essential mobile engine although maybe it's not quite that. it just seems like this would be well at home on a 64 bit mobile phone. I think it would do better there then the nintendo switch. the game runs well but as charming and interesting as the game is it does feel like yoshi's crafted world aimed higher technologically. that being said they went all in with the hidden secrets concept in the way that really hadn't been done before. the main difference between life's a beach and yoshi and the mysterious book is that life's a beach secrets are more a vehicle for the comedy movie sequences whereas yoshi and the mysterious book is foremost a game and as a result everything is gamified the game feels very atmosopheric and the details are interesting and **** you into the game. I like the fact that the game is all about letting you explore and helps you do it as quickly as possible. honestly this is a new type of game and technically not really a platform. I guess exploreathon might be what it is. A 3d version of yoshi and the mysterious book would be interesting but to make it good would require an immense amount of man hours to create a 3d game that has as much depth as yoshi and the mysterious book.

After playing it for over 10 hours, and getting to the last world (world 10), I can safely say that pretty much all the negative things that have been said about Yoshi and the Mysterious Book are lies or misconceptions : - The game is not short. Yes, you can get to the credits in a few hours if you want. But this means nothing as to the actual length of content in this game. Each level has a main objective of easy to medium difficulty, that is usually the most obvious, which will usually take something like 5-15 minutes to complete. What each level also has however are secondary objectives, many of them similarly elaborate as the main objective. Each level has a plethora of things to complete. Each level also has creatures that appear following first time completion which are meant to shake things up and give a fresh way to play each level, often upping the challenge. Complaining about Yoshi's "shortness" is like going to a restaurant once, ordering the daily menu and complaining that it was over after one meal. It's toroughly absurd and dishonest. The truth is that the game has more meaningful content than practically any other game I have played, the depth and breadth of interactions is unmatched by any other platformer. - The game is not particularly easy. Yes, none of the main objectives are truly hard. But you know what they are not either? Super easy, like mouth-breathers on the internet were claiming before the game even came out. In fact, I would argue that the game is even on the more difficult side considering that just getting to the credits does require some skills and problem-solving abilities, much above the "toddler" audience this game has been pidgeon-holed into supposedly being for by bad actors or superficial individuals. Another angle that feeds this criticism is the happenstance that you do not die or take damage in the game as Yoshi, which is taken for granted as being a negative. This however comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of the game on a mechanical level. The game works as a series of exploratory actions, many of which are dependent on each other, rather than a series of perfectly timed jumps or other technical actions. The point of the game is to explore, not to master through repetition, though there is quite a bit of that, but it is never forced, and if it was forced, the addictive chain of discovery and wonder would be interrupted and numbed down. The point is to reward curiosity and exploration, not punish it through restrictive level timers or damage meters. The game seeks to encourage experimentation and not flawless chains of execution and memorization. - The game is not shallow. Each and every level has its own gimmick, which has lead some dishonest, click-baity outlets (like NintendoLife) to use this to paint a picture **** that is wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. This is false because not only is each gimmick toroughly and creatively explored in each and every single one of the like 70 levels that seem to be there as of my current stage in the game, but many are re-used in interactive way in levels figuring other mechanics, and, as previously mentionned, each level has a twist added to it following first-time completion of the world it is in. GoodFeel really struck an impressive and unequalled balance between mechanical depth on one side and experiencial richness on the other. This game is TRULY unique, and this in a purely positive manner, and is something that can not be experienced through any other means than to purchase a Switch 2, buy the game and let the hours flow away quickly as the game engulfs you into its immersive and addictive world. In short, all of the criticism aimed at the game falls flat. This is either because the critics did not play the game for enough time (or at all), are boomers who are too close-minded and stuck in their ways to enjoy the game for what it is and what makes it uniquely good, and instead lambast it for not being only about their narrow idea of "difficult platforming", and, lastly because they are shallow, narrow-minded low IQ individuals who are too scared that enjoying such a charming and family-friendly game would somehow hurt their fragile masculinity. The game is a boon for both platforming and puzzle game fans, and if you enjoy both genres, the enjoyment is multiplied. It features dozens of inventively crafted, state-of-the-art levels which EACH play uniquely and manage to surprise and amaze people of all ages as it effortlessly intertwines platforming challenges with environmental puzzle-solving, which always ends in a mechanical finale that is poised to be a memorable experience. Each level also has a twist for second-time playthrough which shakes things up using an element from a different level, which enriches the already amazing experience in the most literal sense to a whole new level. Conclusion : The game is a masterpiece, and a reason by itself to own a Switch 2.

This was so much better than I thought it was going to be. Like seriously. Genuinely amazes at how much the Nintendo Directs were underselling this game.

Nintendo did it again. They took something so simple and developed it with amazing care for details. The game is a smart puzzler and a genuine delight to play and discover its many secrets. It's the best Switch 2 game to date and absolutelty addictive. It helps that the art style is so cute too! Overall a masterpiece!

Beyond its flawless art direction, the game’s level design is truly exceptional. It manages to captivate both young children and hardcore players aiming for 100% completion. There are numerous surprising mechanics throughout, along with puzzles that are genuinely satisfying to discover and solve.

We really got a Yoshi themed bullying simulator before GTA 6. You (Yoshi) are transported into different biomes populated with various cutesy creatures (most of which do nothing whatsoever to attack you) and your goal is to mercilessly harass them in order to “study their behavior.” This behavior is recorded in a magic encyclopedia and you will eventually be able to exploit this behavior to reach other parts of the region to bully even more creatures. It’s like if Steve Irwin was a cartoon dinosaur but also a complete menace. With that said, I love it. Creative, unpredictable, and leaves you wanting more. Every new biome and creature has a new gimmick and it’s a blast progressing through the game and discovering what the next gimmick is. Figured this game would be for toddlers only but I’m glad I gave it a chance because it’s probably my favorite Switch 2 exclusive so far

First, I was very Critocal, but I must admit, that this game was a very big suprise. Normaly, I buy a game only, if the trailers or gameplay makes me thinking, it's a good game. This one is a exception, and holy ****, this game is so good. It's the best Yoshi game for a while, and when your looking for an unchallinching exploring game, it is definetly the way to go.

This wonderful game exceeded my expectations by a mile and then some! It begins harmless and curious but turns into something truly amazing over the course of the game, with each level introducing a completely unique gameplay mechanic through its creatures. The presentation also is just magnificent! Don't sleep (or hate) in this one, just give it a chance to win you over!

Bought this for my kid and they’re enjoying it, the graphics are ok and the gameplay is fun and charming as you’d expect from Nintendo. Yoshi games always have that relaxing, colourful style that kids love. What I really don’t understand though is why this is apparently a Switch 2 exclusive. Feels unnecessary and more like Nintendo trying to stop people playing it on emulators than an actual technical reason. Also, how are we still getting kids games in 2026 with loads of text but barely any spoken dialogue? Younger kids who can’t read properly yet end up needing constant help. Full voice audio would make such a difference.£49.99 also feels very expensive for what it is… but ah well, anything to make your kid happy I guess.

This is underwhelming, Switch 2 deserved better. The only good things are graphics, framerate and bosses, the rest is NOT FUN AT ALL! You are constantly forced to try EVERYTHING with EVERY single enemy (which becomes the point of the level). Not at all the Yoshi game I would’ve like.

Enter level, meet new bug, eat bug, throw bug onto back, into the mud, into an apple, solve basic puzzle, wash and repeat. That’s it. That’s the game. There’s no sense of progression, no goal, no reason to even really play. None of the mechanics introduced are all that standout. Some feel downright bad. I’m just sorta left scratching my head at this. It’s the worst Yoshi game yet and I own every one. I didn’t have high expectations for this and it still came up way short. It’s great Nintendo is keeping up a steady stream of releases for Switch 2 but it’s beginning to feel like quantity over quality. I met every creature in the pre and post game content in 10 hours. I’m just glad I bought the physical version so I can recoup some of the $70.

This game is SOOOO much fun, even to the point where I was addicted and I actually thought it was gonna be boring that I couldn’t die in the game to make it a challenge, but I was wrong, This is probably one of the best switch 2 Games we’ve gotten so far this year.

I read that this game could be like a 2D Breathe of the Wild and sounds weird and also strangely accurate. It starts very simple, you just move Yoshi to see what happens and then you get hook in the same place just trying to Discovery new things. The formula is no longer going from point A to point B, sounds very weird after playing sidesclorers for about 40 years, I started thinking I would maybe get bored but the total opposite, it's a very fun and play full Game. It Will be dividive as the premise is new, but I think with ages It Will be a Game to rediscover as It happened with Yoshi Story in N64

The fact that when you play this game In handheld mode and it has so many artifacts is bad enough. But this game just looks downright terrible blows my mind that people are okay with this standard of gaming to think you spent at least 500 on the switch 2 and at least 60 if not 70 for this game to not even run native but to use a terrible version of DLSS that clearly doesn’t work on switch 2 hell I’d rather play this on my switch one with native graphics capped at 30 FPS. I just can’t fathom this kinda performance in this day and age. Blows my mind people except this as okay. I feel robbed as a handheld user.

This **** the most interesting game I have ever seen in my entire life! No doubt about that! Despite the small levels there are so many things to explore about each creature (literally)! And sure it might not seem that good to some people but for those who want a relaxing game that offers a big challenge to 100% then here is your **** only issue about this game (just like Mario Wonder) are the designs when you are inside the level! It is not that great and could have seen better things from them......overall however this is a must play game from me especially those who want a relaxing game that has a very challenging 100% completion.
