Yoshi and the Mysterious Book8
Jun 3, 2026
technically yoshi and the mysterious book is the first of it's kind although it's very similar to my game life's a beach which was released in 2025. in life's a beach you discover hidden areas to complete challenges and then activate comedy movie sequences themed to the area. the game is about discovering secrets a la mario 64 or crash bandicoot. yoshi and the mysterious book has you scan a book for secrets although there more automatic. it would be better if the secrets didn't unlock as you progress but instead were explorable from the book from the get go. once you unlock a page you discover hidden information about interesting creatures and the game reeks of charm. yoshi and the mysterious book is a rare nintendo game that's more suited for fans of the original crash bandicoot trilogy for ps1 than nintendo fans where generally people do backwards long jumps in super mario 64 and movement tech is very important. observation is key in yoshi and the mysterious book. but what's great about the game is the unlockable system where you can unlock any part of the game depending on how many hidden secrets you discover about a part of nature or creature. the game can essentially be considered a flex completionist game where the goal is to collect everything but youre rewarded for finding secrets but you don't necessairly need to collect everything to enjoy it. the game uses ue5 essential mobile engine although maybe it's not quite that. it just seems like this would be well at home on a 64 bit mobile phone. I think it would do better there then the nintendo switch. the game runs well but as charming and interesting as the game is it does feel like yoshi's crafted world aimed higher technologically. that being said they went all in with the hidden secrets concept in the way that really hadn't been done before. the main difference between life's a beach and yoshi and the mysterious book is that life's a beach secrets are more a vehicle for the comedy movie sequences whereas yoshi and the mysterious book is foremost a game and as a result everything is gamified the game feels very atmosopheric and the details are interesting and **** you into the game. I like the fact that the game is all about letting you explore and helps you do it as quickly as possible. honestly this is a new type of game and technically not really a platform. I guess exploreathon might be what it is. A 3d version of yoshi and the mysterious book would be interesting but to make it good would require an immense amount of man hours to create a 3d game that has as much depth as yoshi and the mysterious book.

RoboCop: Rogue City10
Nov 21, 2024
inconsistent. the game seems to ebb and flow with the energy of the creators. the game starts off with exhilarating shootouts but this soon gets tiring and you get to the fun stuff. the investigating side missions. the signature humor and world building is better than the mass effect trilogy. however the game possibly due to a lack of resources changes things up occasionally by offering a street vultures section with a large open world with challenging shooting that belies a feeling of hopeleesness. It's extremely frustrating and not at all relaxing. thankfully the game always has moments where robocop is exploring at the police station. robocops sidequest for his fellow cops are always great and offer respite from the numbing shooting. the game manages to keep the difficulty fresh which is impressive. because after the first ed209 shootout which was incredibly tedious. I thought the game wouldn't have any way of increasing it's difficulty. after that fight I turned down the difficulty to easy but eventually the game did get harder. the game finds creative ways of challenging you. the only problem is when it's not challenging you. you may feel like you want a break from the shooting and although the game offers inconsistent breaks between the shooting segments. these side missions are the best part of the game and should have been more frequently part of the game. I optimized my core ultra 5 125u to run the game. my e cores are running at max speeds. to do this. set the minimum maximum performance state to 100 using something like power settings explorer. robocop relies on mesh shaders and your intel cpu running at it's best. my fans weren't running properly at one point so the e cores didn't boost up. performance tanked. right now I'm at the final boss but keep getting stuck. still a very engaging game. one of my favorite games of all time.

Final Fantasy XVI10
Nov 21, 2024
the era of turn based rpgs is gone and good riddance. the battles in this game are the best final fantasy battles so far. the story is gripping and the characters feel real yet entertaining. it's easy to get lost in this game. I recommend if playing on pc to use mods to lower the output resolution of the game if doing that you should be able to run this on a 1070 and above. personally I played it on ps5 and the demo on a core ultra 5 125u but I got robocop for 30 bucks and I was playing on a laptop and was way out of spec. not that was why. Id probably buy out of spite just to say I could run it but the combat early on is fairly easy I wasn't able to complete the eikonic feats in the demo because that really requires keyboard and mouse. there is too much fuctionality crammed into this game to try playing on a laptop touchpad. is this game worth 60 dollars absolutely though when I could have bought it I think they were selling it for 50 dollars. well worth it. robocop is better though.

Sonic Frontiers10

sonic frontiers first world is the best open world of any 3d platform ever made. however like other sonic games before such as sonic lost world sonic adventure sonic unleashed sonic 06. It offers a ton of great content but overall the game can be a grind by the end of it. that being said you could really argue the first world of sonic frontiers is a game in it's own right. it harkens back to games like mario 64 where because of it's limitations. it appeared like you only need to beat bowser once and the rest of the game was optional. that's at least what I thought when I was a kid. I was wrong of course. but the n64 wasn't technically impressive enough to demarcate the difference between each bowser showdown. this worked to it's favor and allows mario 64 to invite comparison between mario 64 and optionalthon's like crash bandicoot 2. one thing that doesn't make sense about sonic frontiers is that you have to collect 8 chaos emeralds in each world. you would think after collecting all 8 chaos emeralds the game is over. but unlike in mario 64 when you complete each world it's clear these new worlds aren't optional but are intended. the other two worlds use confusing sections to hide important areas like big's fishing spot and segment other key areas off to increase difficulty. however if the games wanted truly to be open zone athon's a title they never really had. mario 64 has the paintings and an open world making it open zone. so does sunshine. I suppose mario galaxy isn't open zone or super mario odyssey. in any case it's nothing new. but if sonic really wanted to embrace this ethos. It could make the games difficulty almost exclusively based on it's cyberspace stages. that being said the cyberspace stages are great stages so that's good. but all in all the game really shines with it's open world stages. unfortunately those sections really only shine in the first world where the open world is a nod to exploration and not done to confuse the player as a way ofpadding difficulty. you should really be able to run laps around the world in a proper 3d open world sonic game which the first world does perfectly but the other world's don't. I loved the first world. I was tired by the second world. flailing by the third world. the fourth world was good. and I tried for the optional ending in the last world and got my butt kicked. but I had fun. but it is too much content. the first world of this game is among the best 3d platforms ever made. the rest is for glutoons for punishment but that's okay.

Kingdom Hearts III - Re Mind8

the new ez codes are great. especially since you can play them in critical mode. this allows the game to be tailored to however you want to play it. however these codes arent available to use in the remind dlc unless youve beaten the game once with them. the first part of the remind dlc is tough but is essentially beatable. however if you play kingdom hearts 3 and don't block for example. the limitcut dlc is going to require that you do that. that being said you can beat the game on any difficulty using ez codes and turn on auto block making the game much easier. you can even play on critical mode while doing so and balance the difficulty to your taste. I really enjoyed the dlc but I stupidly used my clear data for kingdom hearts 3 as my limitcut clear data because I didnt want to replay remind twice. reminds final battle is incredibly fun. the additions to scaela al caelum are amazing and the final battle with mickey is one of the most beautiful things youll see on the ps4. it looks like to deliver that level of quality they padded out the rest of the dlc. its not really worth the money but if you make it to the end the end sequence with mickey is really impressive.

Final Fantasy XV9

combat system is in depth and entertaining. I do not like however that the attack button and the run button are the same because if you are under-leveled you can waste magic you may need to win. world feels massive because the car you are given rides on rails only going left and right and on a set path. story is not the best in a final fantasy but its cute eccentricities like having to pay your way because you don't have enough money to pay the auto mechanic are neat. A cute southern girl mechanic who seems to be from an era completely out of time is a cute concept. It's easy to get immersed because the source material is the real world.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End9
Jun 5, 2016
The game defining sequences that focused on shock and awe like falling off the train in uncharted2 are replaced with sequences where you control the character through beautiful vistas or explosions. These sequences truly look next gen but usually during a lot of gameplay the game looks slightly better than uncharted2 or uncharted3. Its not that the game doesnt look impressive but uncharted has always pushed the limits of visuals in videogames or even movies and that was last generation. Uncharted 4 is a new beginning for next gen consoles but not a massive leap like uncharted 2 was for the ps3.

Sonic: Lost World8
Jan 1, 2014
lost world is a sonic game that challenges gamers more than any sonic game since the genesis. By doing this it makes some missteps but when it does things right it is an exhilirating game to play. their are chase levels, their are levels were you precisely move from falling platform to falling platform. the tougher levels require speed and you will even have to rotate sonic around the world to dodge gisnt snowballs and enemies occasionally. this shows that the galaxy formula actually gives sonic greater freedom to roam and its neat when its used. the problem is their should be mandatory movie sequences or something to show that it can be done early on in the game. onto whats irritating, the red rings are inconsistently difficult. one red ring has icicles surrounded it which you have to dodge but then rewards you with rings for attempting it while the next red ring requires careful wall jumping skills which give no room for error. their are also segments which although interesting and creative. jumping on clouds. running toward blender gears so you can be carried by the fruit juices. these segments are fun but their different trom the visceral experience in a typical sonic game. this game is an extremely fun difficult game which reminds me of the original crash bandicoot. I think once fans get a hang of the difficulty theyll love how much precision and speed is behind their actions.

Beyond: Two Souls10

This game packs a graphical punch similar to Uncharted 2. This game along with gt6 is one of the reasons I'm disappointed with the next gen consoles so far. The story is extremely deep and teaches you a lot of things about life you may never of even considered. However, the experience isn't really about you. It's about the main character and all your decisions inevitably shape the same inevitable story until the very end. Their are stunning vistas in this game from all over the U.S including some places you can traverse by horseback(only in one section of the game). The main problem is their is very little replayability and no punishment for making mistakes. The choose your own adventure style of heavy rain is instead replaced with one of the most beautiful action packed games on the ps3.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss9
Nov 14, 2012
This game is everything I like in handheld. It's extremely ambitious but knows just when to compromise when it has to. This game has beautiful vistas that are more beautiful than what has been seen in all of the uncharted's. However, this is a handheld so you won't see things like watching a bus crumple apart as it fall apart off of a mountain. The game does have it's fair share of set pieces and it also has some very creative ways of killing enemies and mechanics and physics that were clearly developed alongside uncharted 3 such as the way buildings burn. In uncharted golden abyss you can slide mountains while shooting and much your enemies plummet to the ground. Basically, what this uncharted does is it attempts to make up for it's portability by making it the best fps of all the uncharted's and it constantly puts you in creative situations which use the power of the handheld. The only downside is although the game is beautiful most of the game looks the same, in fact a very action packed segment is even repeated twice pulp fiction style to cleverly push the game to the very end despite having no space left for the game. Uncharted Golden Abyss is a great game which manages to take a game that is really around 30 gbs and with some clever tricks 3.5 gbs. They're are longer games for the ps vita that don't quite as many risks like rayman origins which are recommended over this. However, golden abyss takes full advantage of the handheld and although it's a great game to pick up alongside this. It would be a shame if more games didn't follow in Golden Abyss ambitious footsteps. *kingdom hearts chain of memories and ratchet and clank size matters are around 1.8 gbs)

Max Payne 38
Nov 14, 2012
Although, this game is in the style of Max Payne. It doesn't really have any connection to Max Payne 1 or 2. The atmosphere in Max Payne is top notch whether your firing at thugs in a club in mid air or or defending a fellow mercenary from sniper fire. The game feels extremely realistic and does have several creative missions. The problem is although they're are some creative bits. The levels don't nearly match the creativity seen in Max Payne 1 where the levels weren't necessarily about the game-play but unraveling the deep narrative behind the plot with several innovative concepts strewn throughout the game. Max Payne 3 is mainly about pitted you in high pressure realistic scenarios full of noir and despair and watching you survive them realistically without out enough creative touches to keep it on par with the original. That being said this is in my opinion the most realistic shooting game ever made with an online mode just as frustrating.

Sonic Generations8
Nov 15, 2011
Sonic Generations does many things right, but it isn't the best sonic game. That honor would go to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Adventure 2. The games contrived plot has you switching between 2 sonics: 2d sonic and modern sonic as you try to save time from a mysterious new foe. In both classic and modern levels the graphics are stunning, and the modern take on the older levels is great. The challenge stages, like most games that use them can get old and repetitive after a while. For some reason some people don't like the buddy challenge stages added where you can send in another character on the fly to help you traverse levels, one of these has tails rescuing as you freefall. Their are two big disappointments with this game, the modern levels although are meant to be tougher aren't anything like the act 2 and act 3 stages of the previous sonic games. (not hard to compare generations gladly adds in sega genesis and a free sonic the hedgehog 1 cartridge). The other disappointment is that the modern re-renditions of stages that worked well without the boost gauge don't work as well with it. With the new mechanic, its a lot easier to speed past obstacles which would be fine escape it ruins the finasse these levels had slightly. All in all, sonics reimaging of his past is excellent and may give sonic a bright future.
