This is a near perfect zeldalike, they nail the wonder of exploration, the compelling progression of finding new tools and abilities, and the combat system has a surprising amount of depth with its “magecite” that allows you to customize all 7 of your weapons and experiment with unique builds. The story is slow at the start but that can be forgiven, in the end when the truth is revealed you will be invested in these characters and the payoff is huge. This was a surprising game, I thought it would be fun, but they made something bigger and better than your average zeldalike. There’s still room for improvement, I think the sequel should ditch the fairy companion, or at least reduce her dialogue even further, because she speaks far too often and the same lines repeat over and over.

A game that actually lets you think for yourself, there’s no NPCs telling you what to do or where to go. You just explore, discover, strategize, etc. We need more fun games like this, that actually give you the freedom to figure it out.
