Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

After playing it for over 10 hours, and getting to the last world (world 10), I can safely say that pretty much all the negative things that have been said about Yoshi and the Mysterious Book are lies or misconceptions : - The game is not short. Yes, you can get to the credits in a few hours if you want. But this means nothing as to the actual length of content in this game. Each level has a main objective of easy to medium difficulty, that is usually the most obvious, which will usually take something like 5-15 minutes to complete. What each level also has however are secondary objectives, many of them similarly elaborate as the main objective. Each level has a plethora of things to complete. Each level also has creatures that appear following first time completion which are meant to shake things up and give a fresh way to play each level, often upping the challenge. Complaining about Yoshi's "shortness" is like going to a restaurant once, ordering the daily menu and complaining that it was over after one meal. It's toroughly absurd and dishonest. The truth is that the game has more meaningful content than practically any other game I have played, the depth and breadth of interactions is unmatched by any other platformer. - The game is not particularly easy. Yes, none of the main objectives are truly hard. But you know what they are not either? Super easy, like mouth-breathers on the internet were claiming before the game even came out. In fact, I would argue that the game is even on the more difficult side considering that just getting to the credits does require some skills and problem-solving abilities, much above the "toddler" audience this game has been pidgeon-holed into supposedly being for by bad actors or superficial individuals. Another angle that feeds this criticism is the happenstance that you do not die or take damage in the game as Yoshi, which is taken for granted as being a negative. This however comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of the game on a mechanical level. The game works as a series of exploratory actions, many of which are dependent on each other, rather than a series of perfectly timed jumps or other technical actions. The point of the game is to explore, not to master through repetition, though there is quite a bit of that, but it is never forced, and if it was forced, the addictive chain of discovery and wonder would be interrupted and numbed down. The point is to reward curiosity and exploration, not punish it through restrictive level timers or damage meters. The game seeks to encourage experimentation and not flawless chains of execution and memorization. - The game is not shallow. Each and every level has its own gimmick, which has lead some dishonest, click-baity outlets (like NintendoLife) to use this to paint a picture **** that is wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. This is false because not only is each gimmick toroughly and creatively explored in each and every single one of the like 70 levels that seem to be there as of my current stage in the game, but many are re-used in interactive way in levels figuring other mechanics, and, as previously mentionned, each level has a twist added to it following first-time completion of the world it is in. GoodFeel really struck an impressive and unequalled balance between mechanical depth on one side and experiencial richness on the other. This game is TRULY unique, and this in a purely positive manner, and is something that can not be experienced through any other means than to purchase a Switch 2, buy the game and let the hours flow away quickly as the game engulfs you into its immersive and addictive world. In short, all of the criticism aimed at the game falls flat. This is either because the critics did not play the game for enough time (or at all), are boomers who are too close-minded and stuck in their ways to enjoy the game for what it is and what makes it uniquely good, and instead lambast it for not being only about their narrow idea of "difficult platforming", and, lastly because they are shallow, narrow-minded low IQ individuals who are too scared that enjoying such a charming and family-friendly game would somehow hurt their fragile masculinity. The game is a boon for both platforming and puzzle game fans, and if you enjoy both genres, the enjoyment is multiplied. It features dozens of inventively crafted, state-of-the-art levels which EACH play uniquely and manage to surprise and amaze people of all ages as it effortlessly intertwines platforming challenges with environmental puzzle-solving, which always ends in a mechanical finale that is poised to be a memorable experience. Each level also has a twist for second-time playthrough which shakes things up using an element from a different level, which enriches the already amazing experience in the most literal sense to a whole new level. Conclusion : The game is a masterpiece, and a reason by itself to own a Switch 2.

This game has no originality. All of its concepts, even its art, were taken from someplace else. There is simply nothing to review with this game, as one should instead review the games it plagiarized if one was to want to criticize this game's content. The only reason it was promoted was to downplay the launch of the Switch 2 and steal the limelight from its games as GTA VI failed to deliver on that end as it got delayed. Just compare its meager sales with the industry-wide shilling of this derivative product ... Don't fall for the hype and buy better games, with actual new, worthwhile ideas brought to the table.

Yes, the game has a few issues, e.g. unfair ennemy teleports towards the player and similarly unfair, emergent behaviour of some of the bosses. It can feel tedious at times, and the exploration aspect is not that well fleshed out, as the map is simply too large for me to want to do significant backtracking in order to discover new pathways. However, outside of that, it fully delivers on its promise to provide a hardcore experience that requires full dedication from its players, paired together with a desolate, post-apocalyptic setting which puts you in-between states of despair and acceptance. It emerges as the far superior alternative to Dark Souls in this regard, as it lacks the slow and boring nature of these repetitive games, being more action-packed and fun enough to keep you wanting to continue.

This game is a dream game for fans of previous 2D Metroid, as commercially-speaking, it should not even have been made considering the series' historical sale numbers, yet a billion-dollar publisher decided to allocate funding to it, and the development team went hard to work on what made the previous games stand out and put it into a widescreen, full HD experience with excellent controls. The atmospheric elements are stellar, the music, environmental design and overall audiovisual presentation make you truly feel as if you are a lone warrior finding her way out of a hostile, truly alien planet's underbelly. This atmospheric feast is well-supported by the action of the game, which while unforgiving at times, does as much as it can to remove friction between your mental input and the action on the screen ... The controls are truly buttery-smooth and immensely satisfying. There is a challenge mode called "Dread mode" which will push you to engage with the mechanics more deliberately and master the bosses, which are on par with those found in Metroid : Zero Mission. The game is a bit linear, which means a lot of the exploratory gameplay that some previous entries in the series have benefitted from takes a slight backseat, this however showed to be more of a benefit for the vision that this particular entry sought to enact.

The 9/10 score is only due to the time trial mode in this game being broken. Otherwise this game offers one of the most thrilling, satisfying and polished 2D platforming experiences I have experienced as of now. This game is far above the SNES games in every single way. All aspects of the game are fine-tuned to perfection : every platform and ennemy placement is perfectly attuned to Donkey Kong's size and speed to create the most satisfying flow. The levels are numerous and varied, abound with secrets and optional challenges for more advanced players. This was a big deal back in 2010 on the Wii, and still is on the Switch, 15 years later.

High quality game overall, but the level of effort that went into it is clearly lower than Super Mario Odyssey, developed by the same team. This obviously appears wherever the two games are directly comparable, like in the 2D sections. The 2D sections in Super Mario Odyssey were inventive and polished, while they felt more like quickly put together demos in Bananza. This echoes most of the level design in Bananza, which simply does not have that much substance to it. Sure, you have a great movement and overall action toolset, but you have little opportunity to make great expressive use of it. Not quite enough to make the Switch 2 worth owning on its own, unlike with Super Mario Odyssey on the original Switch.

The game is terrible. The game feels simultaneously stuck in the early 2000s while falling for the same traps that bad modern AAA games fall into. The gameplay, on top of being boring, is not polished at all, every action feels terrible, unresponsive and unnatural. The graphics are not great, yet the performance is atrocious on high-performing hardware. The story is just hilariously bad and historically inacurate. Save yourself some money and don't buy this game.

Last version of my review. I've just played through the game in under 4 hours on hard mode (to unlock one of the endings). The game is very solid mechanically, the shooting is on point, and each aeon ability is useful depending on the situation you're in. The game's vast array of corridors is interesting to explore and there is no shortage of action. Ennemies are powerful, but can be killed off very swiftly by a skilled player. The counter ability doesn't fit this game well, but it's optional to use it, though some ennemies were obviously designed to be a pain in the ass to defeat without it. I made the last playthrough without using it at all, and I was much better off. Certainly one of the best games on 3ds.

Absolute masterpiece **** and best one on the switch. Controls are great, map design is great, campaign is not too bad, and the weapons are fun and unique **** buckets though). I guess it's just one of those instances where the develloper struck gold with a game concept. The game is as much about murdering your ennemies by drowning them in your ink as it is about controlling territory by spraying everything. It's so intuitive because the bright colours instantly give away which team controls which part of the map : this allows for fast-paced tactical gameplay and a consistent flow. The classes are intelligently designed and feel right at their place and role. The game is very polished and it obviously feels like it. It's also a console shooter that recquires no auto-aim, thank you gyro-aiming.

Good action-adventure game that becomes too repetitive after 10 hours. Exploration is well-done in this game, but due to the over-saturated map feels a bit like a chore after a while. The puzzles are interesting and try to test your spatial reasoning as well as your hand-to-eye coordination. Most of the time, the parcour options make sense, but a few time, they are just trial and error **** The combat works fine, but this game lacks enough action overall, proof is that I constantly need to leave ammo/materials behind. Still a solid game overall.

"WW1 game" Except for the fact that most of the weapons are automatic or semi-automatic, Tyrone wuz a german soldier n' **** and women are efficient combattants. This alone deserves a low score imo, but there are other issues as well. The campaign is not bad I guess, there's just too much of that good ol' AAA stealth to make me come back (and also **** the cutscenes). The multiplayer is ****ed beyond belief by the infestation of hackers, something EA/DICE seem to have a very difficult time countering, so if you want to be shot from the other side of the map by some dude using an aimbot, play that I guess. My reccomendation is that you don't buy this game.

ADHD : the game. This game would have been good if the devs hadn't substituted good, intelligent game design for pointless, repetitive gimmicks only there to fill the APM counter for ADHD people. The maps with their ennemy placement are chaotic and it's a bit hard to get an overview, so the best way to navigate them is by moving around equally chaotically to the demons, and I guess that would have been fine if the game didn't recquire you to constantly keep an eye on weaker demons, make a repetitive cutscene happen through either a glory or chainsaw kill and encourage "variety" for the sake of variety through gimmicks like the flamethrower. All these things are designed to make the game slow-down and re-orient the player, but in reality they only serve to further make you lose focus on your opponents and aim as well as they are over-stimulating for no reason.

This game takes the gameplay elements and levels of the original classic Yoshi's Island and makes them a bit better. The levels are well-crafted and the intentionality and care put into them is strongly noticeable. While it's certainly easy to finish all the normal levels in the game, getting all the collectibles provides satisfying enough difficulty. Some are better hidden than others, but they certainly add an additional layer of enjoyment and even depth to the game. Plus the yarn yoshis you get from each level are just cute. The 7 special levels (6 per world + one final one) are of medium difficulty, but getting everything in them will recquire precise inputs and a good grasp of the mechanics, making this game rewarding to master for those who are completionists. There's also the boss room that offers a decent challenge, and while the bosses you'll encounter in the world map are a bit easy, the boss room demonstrates quite well that they were certainly not lazily designed, all by just speeding the boss fights up by a factor of about 2. (You also get a bunch of Yarn Yoshis for completing the boss room, which is always nice.) All in all, very solid platform experience that stands there to show the maturation of the genre. 8.5/10 for me, very underrated Wii U game I think.

The game has enough good things about it to make it at least somewhat enjoyable throughout, but there is simply a lack of meaningful progression to make the journey throughout the open-world truly worthwhile like a supposed masterpiece would have. It was stated by devellopers that the design philosophy here was to make everything accessible from the start. Well, I think this is an awful philosophy, considering that "go anywhere you want from the plateau on" really means "do basically the same things you've already done over and over again because there is no progression". The cooking system is shallow and repetitive, not to mention it can be used to break the game because you can just stack food indefinitely. Every progression mechanic in the game is basically an RPG-lite mechanic that boils down to "kill x to upgrade x's stats", or "find same weapon with better stats", with stats only referring to durability and damage output. The combat is ok, but for most encounters, spamming the attack button will suffice, and you can avoid nearly all ennemies quite easily. That would be ok if the loot you get from ennemies would be worthwhile, or fighting ennemies would grant you access to more unique areas, but unfortunately it's pretty much a self-contained loop, making it better to disengage from combat most of the time. Environmental interaction, for being praised so much, is NOT significant most of the time, fire and ice ****, electricity is only good in that it's an OP mechanic that can be used anywhere (only that in water it's completely busted). Also the game severely lacks ennemy variety. In the overworld, you'll encounter about 4 ennemies with re-skins (really not counting the blobs and the bats, because those are just pathetic), and 3 bosses. Now, exploring the world itself feels satisfying enough. The traversal mechanics are good. The shrine quests specifically are good, but they are too few and far between to completely redeem the game's open world. The 4 basic dungeons are also good, as is the DLC dungeon, and trials of the sword is also pretty fleshed out. Those are all good things that taken together make the game stand a little bit above most open-worlds, but it just doesn't wash away the fact that you are playing a tech-demo that overstays its welcome.

Best game ever dragged down entirely by balancing issues (in part due to the game being in the early stage still). There's a voting system for the stages that will appear, and at the beginning of the run, you'll encounter endless 1-2s, 1-1s and 2-2s. There's a warp at the end of 2-2, which lets you chose from 3 levels taken from the pool of stages that got votes. If you encounter a later level, the lack of incentive to complete later levels makes it so that looping 2-2 - 1-2 is the route taken by many players. You may only encounter harder levels later on in the run, after a whole lot of the same few levels. It's not only a problem with stages that repeat, but ennemies as well. I've won multiple times, yet I've encountered bullet bills only once. The voting system needs to get fixed, or there needs to be some matchmaking added.

A good game that you shouldn't buy. Indeed, in this game lies the potential of greatness, a potential that would have to be unlocked by yourself nonetheless. However, while it proably deserves your time, it does not deserve your money for a number of reasons wich can be summed up quickly : the stupidity, greed and laziness of the devellopers. Now let's make a list of the detailed issues : 1. The devellopers are too stupid to programm a game correctly : There's no denying it, the way that this game has been coded is very amateurish, the fact that it runs on java is a dead giveaway. The game is very poorly optimized and for its poor graphics, uses a lot of superfluous resources from your computer, if you want to play it in a way that gives you an acceptable viewing range or relatively pretty graphics to admire your creations , be prepared to use a very beefy computer and forget about playing it that way on the go. 2. The devellopers are too stupid and morally corrupt to fix a BUG : If you want to make a functioning, complex piston machine there's one thing that will f*ck you over : the "quasi-connectivity" BUG, a BUG wich defies logic (because it's a BUG, duh), in the way that it creates unpredictable leaps of activation by redstone, in short, it goes against the principle of this game wich is "block by block" (not my words indeed, as the the official name of a Minecr*ft charity project is "block by block initiative"), and instead adds a whole bunch of nonsensical "rules" wich kill a lot of possibilities. Now, you surely want to ask, why do I stress the word "BUG" like a **** ? Well, it's simple, after this BUG was discovered, like with any BUGS, people started to exploit it to create new possibilities, and that is normal, however the ret*rded devellopers decided not to fix the bug and insted "make" it (make as in makebelieve) a "feature" (no, I'm not kidding you ****/browse/MCPE-14664). I consider this to be the proof of two things : a huge part of the minecraft community (best exemplified by this person ****/aRdcptG365I?t=105), as well as the dev team are completely ret*rded and morally corrupt. You have to be either one of these things at an extreme or both if you think that a BUG wich breaks the game, could not a) be replaced by an actual separate FEATURE of the game b) not be given priority in every version of Minecr*ft, and instead be kept for those who absolutely need it in older versions, or even, god forbid, become optional (yes, yes, 10 years olds, its mind-blowing) 3. The devellopers need an eternity to create simple updates Updates for this game take several months to be realeased. That would be nothing unusual if the updates wouldn't consist of pretty much nothing. for example between november 2016 and June 2017 (1.11 and 1.12), the only major changes were better coloration and a turorial. If you want more evidence that the devellopers are lazy, look no further than the big layers of fat wich envellop Markus Persson's body, who, if you didn't already know, is the founder of Minecraft and has stopped working on it a while ago to sell it for 2.5 billions $ to Micro$oft and, thus proceeded to do, and still does, nothing all day. Considering this, you might agree that it would be amoral to buy this game, because I don't think it is really necessary for some incompetent nobodies to cash in on an idea that was made 10 years ago while seldom producing anything of worth. F*ck the lazy and stupid programmers, f*ck Micro$oft, f*ck the ret*rds that defend this game, and download a cracked version on the internet. Cheers.
