With the future of the series and even the studio in doubt, this expansion is truly a fitting swansong that fleshes out and expands on the main game in very meaningful ways.

It's quite sad to see the sheer talent of id Software on display in this new expansion pack at a time when the studio has been hit by mass layoffs. This studio proves once again that, after 30 years, it remains one of the best in the FPS genre. Revelations offers a great opportunity for fans of The Dark Ages to return to the game, thanks to its frenetic gameplay and excellent level design. As DLCs go, this one offers much more longevity than expected, accompanied by great additions to the weapons and tools of destruction.

an insane DLC from every angle - just the upgrade that the main campaign needed. Make the changes from here transfer to A New Game+ cycle in the main game and this will be a monumental W.

Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations is a superb addition to an already excellent game, expanding on the narrative, lore, and mechanics in a way that’s almost worthy of Sequeldom.

DOOM is synonymous with FPS games. It doesn't matter how much time passes. It doesn't matter how many companies try to take its crown. It doesn't matter if id Software runs out of employees. DOOM is an institution, and there's nothing Xbox, Microsoft, or any other company can do to change that. If this is the end of the saga that began in 2016, I'm more than certain the next chapter will be sensational.

The best Doom game since the 90s, that successful marries the best parts of Eternal and The Dark Ages to make a ferociously entertaining first person shooter that is one of the year’s best gaming experiences.

DOOM: The Dark Ages – Rivelazioni is an exceptional expansion that enhances and transforms an already rock-solid combat system. The Chain Spear stands out as one of the modern series’ most successful additions. The return of the dash, increased verticality, and the ability to switch between spear and shield bring the gameplay closer to the mobility of DOOM Eternal without sacrificing the weighty feel of The Dark Ages. While the story remains predictable and the controls require an adjustment period, these are minor flaws when weighed against the quality and volume of content on offer. At a time marked by uncertainty regarding id Software’s future, Rivelazioni once again demonstrates the studio’s technical and creative prowess. It represents a near-perfect blend of the brutality found in The Dark Ages and the speed of DOOM Eternal.

Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations does what any good DLC should do: give you more of what the base game did right, while also adding in new layers. The addition of the Chain Spear brings back a handful of beloved Doom Eternal mechanics, spicing up gunplay with new capabilities and movement options. The choice to reveal the Slayer's past adds dimensions to a character and better frames his actions in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. The narrative may be a breeze, but the DLC is jam-packed with extra content to keep you entertained long after its conclusion. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, though. While versatile, the Chain Spear stretches the limits of what can be done with modern controllers and keyboards. It's not easy to find a control scheme that feels natural given how many actions are tied to each button. The overarching story is also quite weak. The focus on the Slayer sucks all the oxygen out of the other major threads. It also has a rather disappointing ending that's more determined to set up a fourth Doom game or a second DLC instead of delivering a satisfying conclusion. Despite these issues, Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations is still a good DLC that gives players more of The Dark Ages, a little bit of Eternal, and a lot of demon slaying. This DLC easily escapes Purgatory.

Revelations is exactly the kind of expansion I expect from a great **** doesn’t simply reuse The Dark Ages formula for a few extra hours. It transforms it, improves it, and gives it a whole new dynamic thanks to an absolutely brilliant Chain **** Slayer keeps all of his weight and that feeling of being an unstoppable war machine, while gaining just enough mobility to make combat even faster, more technical, and more **** to that excellent levels, far more rewarding exploration, particularly demanding encounters, gorgeous art direction, and that unique DOOM ability to lock you inside an arena for ten minutes and make you completely forget about the outside world…And you get an exceptional expansion.I’ve rarely felt this much like I was truly controlling a walking engine of destruction in an FPS. When every mechanic starts working together—flying across an arena with the spear, chaining parries, dodges, and weapon swaps while an entire army tries to stop you—Revelations becomes pure adrenaline-fueled **** me, this DLC is even one of the best expressions of modern DOOM’s gameplay.Brutal. Fast. Demanding. **** above all, insanely fun.

The introduction of the Chain Spear is actually a pretty cool addition and brings some fresh mechanics to the arsenal. The problem is that the real damage to the core gameplay had already been done right from the start. The original combat relied far too heavily on the shield and parry dynamics, which completely broke the fast, vertical, and aggressive flow that defined previous DOOM games. Trying to patch or mask that sluggishness now, by dropping a new weapon in a paid DLC, does not fix the fundamental issues of the game.To make matters worse, the map design in this expansion is extremely generic and uninspired, feeling like a basic layout of corridors lacking the verticality and complexity of the past. This drags down the combat encounters themselves, which have become generic, repetitive, and completely devoid of that brilliant, choreographic flow we used to love. The game still feels heavy, enemies are still massive bullet sponges, and the arena design insists on artificial blockages instead of promoting free-flowing combat. It is a decent attempt at a band-aid, but it comes way too late to save a gameplay loop that has lost the franchise's true identity.

Nearly non existant story and annoying spear gameplay. That is the core of the Revelations DLC. First, the story: its basically not there. Its just like hey, were here at the council for some reason and now were deep down in south pole and we have to do boring challenge arenas to get out. Thats it. Motivation to go on because you care or want to know? Zero. Second, the spear. It looks amazing and in theory, it has some cool moves and skills. But in reality… it suuuucks and is nearly no fun at all to play with, quite the opposite. It begins with the game dont even having the controls set for the spear! That was when I was suspiciuos for the first time and I quickly learned why. The different abilities for the spear are not intuitive and too annoying to do whilst in the middle of combat. For example the heavily teased ground slam: you cant just jump around and precisely execute it at will. You have to do it very akwardly and it feels just annoying. Thats why there is now default key binding for the spears moves because even the devs couldnt come up with something that feels comfortably and precise! Then the timings and range of the spear feel off and unintuitive after having the muscle memory with the shield which is deadly because the demons have no mercy. Good luck fighting an Arachnotron without the ability to block a few shots. Upgrades are rather lame too. The levels are huge, ok, but they are heavily built on backtracking, which is super lame and just pads the play time… I dont want a super long DLC, I want a meaningful and exciting one! I am so disappointed by Revelations, I was so heavily looking forward to it and now just feel annoyed and like having wasted my time.

Another soulless cash-grab masquerading as an expansion. The Revelations DLC feels like a bloated, recycled mess that completely misses the frantic magic of its predecessors. It’s a cynical product for a dying studio, prioritizing forced backtracking over actual innovation. Save your money; the only thing 'dark' about these ages is the state of the industry
