Sonic Unleashed6
Sep 3, 2022
The high points are graphics, real time animation, and story presentation. The control of Sonic seems better than Generations. The Unleashed combat, button mashing hordes of robots indiscriminately, is average. The Unleashed design is similar to a PS2 era Prince of Persia type game. There are places where the level design or controls make you fail, typical of most 3d Sonic games that are rushed. Quick Time Event stages were not much fun but looked great. This is an almost good game. It’s not a buy.

SSX4
Aug 26, 2018
SSX is not a competent Snowboarding or racing game. There are design flaws in everything from menus, track design, building a coherent theme for the game, music direction, gameplay, game modes, and controls. I don't think EA has ever tested this on normal people. I would say this is one of EA's worst games ever. Its not quite clear what the end goal of the game is. The menus are complicated and not labeled well. Navigation doesn't make much sense once you've beaten a challenge, displaying if you beat it or not, and where to go next is a headache. This starts you out with a tutorial for babies. Part of the game play is selecting equipment, but you can just hit "optimize." Instead of picking a racing line and getting down fast with the analog stick, you are jumping and then using the airsuit, skipping around from peak to peak. Most of the time you are not snowboarding! The airsuit barely glides forward or you end up on the far edge of every section. Endless crashes and rewinds every time. If you die in the game you are NOT reset. The entire challenge ends and must reload from disk. The control inputs are jumpier, faster, causing your character to go everywhere. Its hard to explore any section or race. The rewind mode is cheating. It must have been invented to stop the repetitive deaths from bad track design. Really there is nothing in this that I'd call a game. The button tips don't match if you switch control schemes! Characters are UN-lockables. Classic SSX control must be unlocked after some game play! The characters personality aren't as amped up as in Tricky or SSX and they don't match the mood of this particular game. The music isn't funky anymore. The music that is in the game doesn't match the dark dangerous tracks. There are more things wrong with the game than what I've listed. I have no desire to play this one for longer than 20 minutes. EA needs to spend longer making these fun instead of just creating a product. All EA does is just create good looking, but not-fun experience in every game they create now. SSX is a prime example of why I no longer purchase EA games.

Sonic Generations3
Aug 12, 2018
This game is unfinished. The Final Boss has unplayable controls. This game contains some of the worst controls & game design I've seen in all my years. I had to change my score as I realized there are parts of the game that were not complete. Highlights include good music and ability to switch to Classic Sonic. But the side scrolling levels are the worst part. The level design is nowhere near as good as classic sonic games. I feel Sega Team does not like classic Sonic and don't care. Some 3d levels were perfect. I had fun grinding rails and outrunning big enemies in closed streets. But most levels had unfinished areas to fall into, causing you to die because of unresponsive controls. Jumping is clearly laggy. Many times I had my joystick pointed one way but Sonic boosted the opposite way. On the surface, and after a few hours it seems like a good game, but the bad points and unfinished nature of the game outwheigh anything positive. It is perfectly clear to me Sonic Team has not made a good game in 20 years. I can't recommend this Sonic game to anyone. You will get bored with its technical problems and probably won't finish the game. 3/10 points.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration4
Jul 1, 2018
This is not a real Tomb Raider game. Whoever is making these games is ruining what made Lara Croft famous in the first place. Lara is supposed to be glamorous girl with a wild side for nabbing artifacts and escaping traps (Like Indiana Jones). What we got here is a run & gun cover shooter with a TERRIBLE horror story. This game has part / item collecting & surviving. That is extremely boring in a game. After you waste time meandering around badly designed levels, it's just about killing. Lara's character is worse than the previous game. This is an Assassin's Creed clone and its just like a million other games. This isn't worth your time. I don't know how they made a worse game than the last one, but they did.

This game is a fun as **** The character creator is excellent. I spend entire gameplay sessions looking for stores and changing my character. The music is great. It consists of slightly ironic radio stations of all eras as well as dubstep. Its just fun shooting people with Robert Palmer or Aerosmith cranked up, playing a character that you personalized. I did not know the setting and upgrades your character would get. I was blown away by the plot. Its funny. I love the voice acting also. The roleplaying dialogue aspect could have been a bigger thing, but its okay since its basically an action game like GTA. This game just has everything I loved from different games and movies: NFS car customization, RPG character creators, buying acessories like SSX3, fun vehicles like Time Splitters / GTA, insane cyberpunk plot and environment, retro & new music, silly kung fu and shooting combat, good graphics for the system. Lots of challenges to keep you moving. Instead of holding you back, the game gives you insane abilities within the first hour. I haven't had this much fun playing a game since Time Splitters: Future perfect. I know this isn't directly comparable to that game, but it gives me the same vibe. The gameplay isn't too complicated. I know they are basically milk runs sometimes, where you drive a car, or shoot a bunch of enemies, but I don't mind. I did like some of the "bosses." I just love this game. One of the best on PS3.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel6

This is a passable "game." I like that it gets started right away and doesn't try to teach me stuff, or bore me with too many cutscenes. You walk in an open world, slash enemies, and collect quests / items. The character creator is limited to hairstyle, color, and class. There is some kind of over-arching battle between classes. Great audio and music and voice acting. The graphics are okay (not many lighting effects), with average character models (running in high heels? really?). You can't jump and the attacks really aren't action oriented. Its more like a PC game, but controls better than a point and click. I think I would have liked this more if you didn't collect so many quests before you finished a single one or knew where to go. The fighting is really basic. Its better than some games of the same type. Online players can join you. Its just alright. There just needs to be a higher challenge within the beginning. Good voice acting. It starts out kind of fun, then you get lost. If you like getting lost and wandering a map, then I'd play this. The action part of the game is not very strategic or difficult. I thought this would be more fun, but its just ok. I'd rather play Drakan on PS2 or Balder's Gate.

Lost Planet 28
May 18, 2017
This game is kind like a revved up Resident Evil 5 engine that lets the player be Starship Troopers, control mechs, use insane weopons, jump everywhere, and just run & gun. You blast monsters that are gigantic. It kind of reminds me of Dragon's Dogma, but SCIFI action instead. Its not too hard and the game puts online players to go along with you. The graphics are amazing! Better than PS4 artistry. I don't really care about the story, and some of the character faces seem same-y. The audio is fantastic. A real step above was taken to recording and mixing the audio. Capcom was on a role when they released this. This game isn't one where you care how deep it is. Its just fun. I don't know why people don't talk about this series more. This doesn't scare me, and get me in the gut like RE. I like the sense of scale and environments in this one. I wish more people talked about this game. Maybe not a classic in the purest sense, but it is an 8/10.

Sega Classics Collection6
Mar 26, 2017
Most of the games here are not better than their 2d counterparts. Space Harrier and Bonanza Brothers are both about a 7 in today's terms. Virtua Racer is an okay port. Golden Axe, Columns, & Monaco GP are the worst. I don't know how they managed to make worse versions of classic games by converting them. You should probably grab this game, but don't pay much, and don't plan on playing it forever. As far as Sega releases this is one of the worst Sega games I've ever put in my machine. I didn't experience any glitches, but a lot of the graphics and gameplay were not up to par for PS2 or not up to par for Sega Genesis standards. This is just a weird Sega collectable that doesn't cost much.

Virtua Fighter 5 Online8
Mar 24, 2017
I was a fan of VF4 right when it came out. I think VF5 has great graphics and all the gameplay of Virtua Fighter 4. Some of the character materials and animations seem too close to VF4. But this is a good version of Virtua Fighter. This one installs to the PS3 and there is no online updates. The game just works. It has some cool customizations. I'm not sure if the AI mode is on here. The new characters are OK. This is a non-buggy fighting game with good graphics. To appreciate the game you must kind of dance against the A.I. and learn a few combos. Then it gets pretty fun. Its not a unbalanced fighter like MK and SF. This was the first 3d fighter and they did it justice through 5 versions, which is not true for other Sega games! I'm glad I picked this up. This is better than most of the free online fighters, and sword fighters. If you are a Sega fan or fighting fan, just pick this one up!

Gran Turismo 66
Jan 13, 2017
Gran Turismo 6 is a complicated time sink with some cool cars inside. Its not finished, its difficult to install, missing damage, and needs a better track maker. Sometimes the graphics are bad. The gameplay is not an even challenge. Other than that its still Gran Turismo. The updates are so huge, the Playstation 3 chokes on them and fails. Put a brand new game in and it does not work. Polyphony Digital doesn't have a system to manage its own updates without an online tutorial written in a forum. It took 2 full days to install the game; UNACCEPTABLE. Some people may run into more problems than others. If You Get It Running: This game is more focused on hyper-cars than any other. The insane top speeds are kind of fun and kind of fake. Cars outpace each other wildly in PP which causes a high learning curve. Its impossible to know which car is the best to pick. There no monster trucks or American classic racing. No 80s stock cars or sprint cars. The reward system is skewed toward longer races. Trophy cars aren't awarded well because some races are too hard with almost no reward. The actual challenges aren't worth anyone's time because of the CR prizes are so small compared to Seasonal Events and Online Play. The difference in prices between the cars doesn't seem to have much logic. Online: The Quick Match will often kick you out of the server. The online rules penalize you unfairly almost every time I race. If you happen to be turning in, and someone hits you behind, you get the penalty. If too many wheels fall out of the course, you get a penalty. Thankfully not all online races are this way. The Open Lobbies are sometimes fun, sometimes terrible. One time a user on the annoying mic, just started cursing out users who entered their room with the wrong car. People constantly criticize you if you are running a car they don't like, even if they didn't put a room filter on it. Most of the user tracks I played are ridiculous (hill climbs) or un-drivable. The Nascar tracks are really fun though. Drift modes: This game doesn't drift well. You have to spend too much time getting your car set up perfectly. Other things wrong with the game; The AI is not great. They sometimes ram you and never seem to coast through turns. You must redo the licensing again. You have to complete 20 races before going online. No drag strip? None. No tuning cars while driving. No drawing on cars. No real damage. Needs courtesy cars online. The graphics are a shame. Some cars look like PS2. Some cars have a premium dashboard, but then I look back, and the rear view is not modeled! Silly. The music and sound are another low point, with bad engine sounds and terrible music selection. The music is so terrible. Whatever happened to real artists, like Garbage? Or classical music. There are some good things. They fixed the terrible menus and load times from GT 4 & 5. Its got a lot of unique content & cars that are in no other game. There are a lot of sim racers now. I'm still waiting for what they promised in Gran Turismo 4: More Pontiacs, & damage models. Worth buying for cheap if you have a PS3, but I won't be completing the disc because of overall gameplay. They added more cars to the game, fixed the menus, but did not increase overall game quality. Its a stressful game to play when you don't have the exact right car to run online and its just unbalanced as an offline game. You are better off quitting the game early. This will take hours of time and I didn't find it as fun as previous racers that exist. This game can get kind of addictive, but it has so many problems its sad. Its no wonder nobody can fully recommend the game.

This is one of the best platformers I've ever played. Instead of getting hurt when you touch an enemy like old games, you just fight them with attacks. This game does have a lot of running and jumping, and use of the special moves is required to keep on. The boss battles are more complicated than anyting I've seen in the Genesis Era. Its also faster. Levels are long. The artwork is mostly great, but I have some critiques. I don't like the eyes on the character designs. It just reminds me of MLP (My Little Pony). I think some of the background pieces have annoying color pallette (Dreadnaught level.) I absolutely loved the enemies throughout the game which provided some challenge and each had their own AI and style. I loved all the bouncers and all the level gimmicks. I hope they invent new ones next time. The artwork is not perfect, especially the color pallette in the last level. But guess what I don't care, because I had so much fun playing this fast and challenging game. Its better than Sonic 3. The design was great, but I wouldn't say its perfect or classic like Sonic 1 or 2. But that's how much I liked it. I loved this game. Its almost perfect as you play through it. The levels are all done with care. Good music, but not classic music. Great unlockables and extras make it so you want to play the game more than once. There is a lot of work that went into this game. If even half of this effort could go onto work on Sonic Mania. Will definitely will buy Freedom Planet 2. Finally a good 2d platformer game came out that isn't what I'd classify as indie garbage. This is the real deal guys.

Demon's Souls (2009)4
Nov 1, 2016
Demon's Souls was horribly out of date on launch. The artificial difficulty from poor controls and no save points made the game pointless. The atmosphere, music, and character creation were good enough to get the game a sequel. The meat of the game is unplayable and only those who enjoy finagling the glitchy gameplay stay with it. It reminds me of Shinobi, but there isn't much action going on. It is not like this is DMC3. Its slow, boring, and uncontrollable. It's a super bad game that had cool atmosphere. Its NOT a hidden gem or a good game.

New Super Mario Bros.7
Nov 1, 2016
This is a disappointing Mario game. NSMB is nothing new for the series and doesn't leapfrog past any other game, like SMB3. Its a worse game. The Mario series has kept in nostalgic and outdated gameplay and not many new power ups or level styles. Enemies still kill you just by touching them. The mid bosses are killed in one hit and are super boring. We still have a kidnapped princess and castles. If you like 2d platforming, you should stay with a different game. This one is out of date in the sense it doesn't add anything new to SMB series.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves7
Dec 6, 2015
Its really sad that this was the best PS3 game of 2009. This game lets you run through corridors while your character takes subtle cues from your input and auto-performs many actions. The danger and feeling of control is not really felt as scripted events trigger. This game emulates stealth tactics from Metal Gear and climbing from Prince of Persia. It is not as satisfying to take out enemies because your weopons and the AI are not as refined as other games that are already in existence. The resolution of the textures, audio, and voice acting are pretty good. I still prefer any of the Tomb Raider games over this. The Uncharted series is super corny and shows how dumbed down PS3 games became.

Crysis 37
Nov 15, 2015
Unfortuneately this game is not as good as Crysis 2. The story is not as gripping. You end up fighting a lot of humans in the first levels and the sense of urgency is not there. The wider open levels are too hard to spot enemies. The level design is often dark and blurry. I can't tell if I'm getting caught up in the fog of war or if there is just too much on the screen. What is on the screen is not aliased well. The frame rate is not too high which doesn't help. The developers sort of expect you to have the hacking, camouflage, and armor controls down already, but when it counts, its hard to know whats activated. The enemy AI is quite good. A lot of levels must be beaten by sneaking unfortunately. That no longer feels clever, it feels like cheating. Once you are seen, it can be impossible to pass. Online mode is still more fun, however the players there have a huge advantage. I thought the suit upgrade screens were a bit messy. Overall it looks really detailed and some of the levels are good, but it often devolves into a wide open mess where you can barely see whats shooting you. This is a bit too different from Crysis 2. I almost wish this ran on the Rage engine which is better for FPS. Crysis 3 feels like a mediocre port and mediocre sequel.

Here we have what is available in other games (shooting & driving). For a couple hours in Rage, you are entertained and challenged. There are a few good characters, but in the end you are just clicking on NPCs that just sit around and do dangerous chores for them. There is not much humanity or friendship here. Your character has little presence to change anything. You are stuck in the scripted challenge tree. If you decide to stray and explore, you are locked out from lots of areas. The FPS corridors in the game are fun and challenging. They actually did a good job on some of the challenges. This just isn't my type of game.

Need for Speed: The Run6
Aug 8, 2015
This is one the best PS3 driving games out there, BUT it has a choppy difficulty curve AND its missing car customization. EA and Criterion did not fix anything I've been **** about for about 11 years (Burnout 3 came out in 2004). SO this game is not much different from BLUR or other NFS. What I love is that backgrounds are astoundingly beautiful. There are some details that seem odd, like road textures that repeat in ways that aren't believeable. The game looks kind of fake in a plastic way, but the draw distance, meandering hills, and lighting are incredible. The car models are drivable for someone who hasn't driven many cars. The game is fun till about halfway through when the courses get bland and too hard! Many times you'll cut a corner too close and the game will drag you back to the road. Drifting still slows you down too much even though you get boost for it! Because its not like old NFS it doesn't drift like Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground!! The game seems great at first but under lots of play it gets annoying. The most annoying is the RESET gameplay. Many times it will put you back to a point in the game where your time wasn't good to complete the whole stage. In short, the reset mode wastes your time. This game is a fun time, but only for about an hour of driving. EA still hasn't fixed any of the problems in this series or put back in the missing features. They haven't been able to make a game as fun or technically perfect as Takedown 3 or Underground, or Hot Pursuit 2. I wanted to love this, but extended playing just shows that its a bit buggy, choppy difficulty, and missing a bunch of features. The main gameplay modes are kind of broken with resets that can waste your time and not enough gas stations to change cars. It looks great, but there is a reason this game can be picked up for cheap. I just don't know why the developers are sitting on their asses and not fixing the main game play style to be more balanced and exciting. This game would have been a solid 8 if it weren't for the poor effort. The problems I list make it a 6.

If you make an FPS it must be compared against other online FPS games. Whether they are MMO or not, the game should be fun. The controls here are floaty and easy. Aiming for stupid enemies on a horizontal plane over and over is what you do. The use of cover or the environments is not good. What there is to explore is not exciting. The weapons you get in the beginning are not satisfying. The voice overs are mismatched and add nothing. The graphics are generally okay, but the level design is very bad. The game is playable, but it has no personality.

Beyond: Two Souls7
Jul 14, 2015
As a game, this falls short, because the controls don't make you feel fully connected to the character. It feels like you are only halfway controlling the events, unlike a silent hill type game. This game is sort of like Time Gal and the cut scenes from Tomb Raider, with some limited control as to where you go. The pace can get frantic as you are expected to do certain control sequences. A lot of this game is like an action movie. The graphics are gorgeous and obviously the main showcase. Ellen Page did an awesome job. Calling this a game and judging it based on gaming, its not really much. As an interactive movie its quite cool. If they had made the walking controls more precise or gave the user extra control over characters, this might be more engaging.

Unfortunately this game doesn't hold up over time. Younger me rented Z.O.E. shortly after the PS2s release and thought it was fun with amazing graphics. A second look shows its flaws. The game is a confusing experience and a little repetitive. The controls aren't really fluid or easy to understand. The auto-lock on doesn't add anything. The camera and character movement are on the poor side. A second look at this game shows how old it is. The Armored Core series was better with more to do. There are some Gundam games that are also more fun. Don't bother with Z.O.E. anymore. Being a Kojima game didn't save it in the long run. This feels like a C grade game with pretty graphics, even though its somewhat playable.

This game is an empty experience. While the graphics are okay and the physics are quite good, its too boring. The gameplay consists of riding an empty highway and flashing other cars for a duel over and over. It is not hard to beat rivals. There is no car damage. There is not really any way to lose the game. Running into the side-rails emits no sparks. Wangan is a better game series and so is NFS: Underground of course. The soundtrack sounds energetic until you realize the riffs are similar to White Zombie. You shouldn't spend any time with this one on PS2.

This game is not what it looks like. Its not a hack n slash. Menu diving still pauses the game in the middle of a battle. The menu interrupted any chance of it being a new battle system. You just run up to a bad guy and it auto-attacks with some kind of AI, then you cure yourself. The character models and environments are really cool. It doesn't look like FFX garbage. The game most annoyingly starts off with a tutorial on how to open doors by hitting the X button. I'm not going to find out what the story is. Anyone who can read could have bypassed the beginning. Heck anyone on drugs could get far into this. Its another Square Enix title that plays itself. Pass!

This has the same **** play mechanic as Haunting Ground. As its years later, you can tell this type never took off for Capcom. Your character is not powerful enough to dish it back out on the bad guys. You get victimized when a ghost or monster is on the screen. Even Silent Hill gave you something to fight with. The environments and character models are really cool. The music and ambiance is cheesier though. I would not recommend this game. They could have made this fun to play but didn't.

This is the worst unfinished concept for any game I've ever seen on the Ps2. Yes, it is objectionable to have a clone of Sonic who is armed. Sonic, who they started pushing as a kids character, is in this game and is friends with him. The first level has a demonic voice telling you to eliminate all the humans. You can just press forward and win. Twitchy controls make it so you barely see whats happening. There is no gameplay anywhere in this. The other reviewers with positive scores are not real gamers. This does not qualify as an actual game. This is some kind of derivative of Sonic Heroes style game which was also poor. The engine Sega has been using for 3d Sonic has just been wrong for over a decades time. I hate this game.

The controls and camera views in this game are just sloppy and slow. The rooms are dark and disorienting. The mission goals are ill defined and you just slog through to new areas. "Wall thingies" light up on the walls and doors and its hard to tell what does what. You start out in the suit, so its hard to tell who you really are. Basically, you stumble around and monsters come from the side, where its difficult to sway the camera around and you get attacked. If you are lucky enough to have stumbled into the right room and touch the right wall thing the game seems to advance. There is no real skill involved to play this game. Its not as good as RE4 or RE5. The graphics are impressive I guess, but the levels and controls are bad. This is not a classic at all. I'm willing to bet this series will die out eventually.

Its about as good as the title makes sense. Its not quite as good as others in the series. It suffers from enemies that take too many hits. The stages aren't very long. The bosses are too hard. You can latch onto walls to make the platforming a little easier. This doesn't make the gameplay good. I think its mostly the level design and enemies that need some balance. It just feels empty playing this type of game.

The controls for MGS are not good on PSP. The setting is in a lot of open forest area which isn't good for sneaking, the AI realism, or the size of the PSP screen, and the darker color scheme. The levels are like MGS:3 which were not tight. This removed a lot of the pre-programmed camera angles forcing you to move the camera yourself. Camera control is a contant hindrance in the game. You can be right in front of guys and they barely see you. You can walk out in front of someone and not know whats going on because of the camera. I'm going to be honest, I can barely aim my gun. The story doesn't start out strong and cut scenes are like an animated graphic novel. Here we have another MGS set in a time that doesn't have a lot of advanced technology, which was half the point of MGS1 and 2. This game also has an annoying menu system. You can't just play through, but you need to equip several things and switch characters and gear ahead of time. So far, MGS: Acid2 has been my favorite PSP game. I don't think MGS was meant to be on the PSP like the console games. This is a non-essential game.

The story and dialogue is skippable. The music is a little derivative. The graphics aren't too bad. The only way to play it is to lure enemys into a hall one at a time. The AI seems to be the same and the only thing keeping you in the game is how lucky you are or how fast you fire back. The weapons do not have a very good spread to make it fun. The content of the game is kinda gross. I can't think of a reason to buy it unless you want to test your reflexes. Its a flashy package that needs more variety. They could have taken many directions to make it more fun for the player but did not.

New players will be thrown back by how simple the controls are. You can't make him whip in any direction, only forward. This Castlevania is laggy and too punishing once you start into it. I wish they had made this more fluid and faster, but they were really strict to make it like an NES game. The music is excellent. There are also some fun animations / dialogue that don't ruin the game. They had an oppurtunity to make a new game but they copied the old ones. I'm not going to recommend this one unless you already like Castlevania, and then probably only the NES or Genesis ones.

The ability to collect different objects in different areas gave it a replay factor. The weapons and transformations of Mega Man are excellent. Its probably one of the best Mega Man games. This series just hasn't changed at all. This is for original Mega Man fans that played it on NES.

Burnout Dominator6

This is more of the same game. I feel like the controls or cars were simplified for the PSP although it may not be true. Burnout 3:Take Down is a better game with better graphics (because its PS2). There are times when I can't really say a game has something wrong with it, but I can't outright recommend it either. The first level has a lot of un-skippable cut scenes and interrupting dialogue boxes. I'd rather play this series on a big TV than on PSP. The presentation of the game doesn't make it feel much different.

Enter a psp action "shooter" with really polished graphics for PSP. The actual gameplay is lock-on and holding L to empty your ammo. You switch bodies to continue, use barriers as cover, and find a few powerups. The special moves are a little confusing and dodging attacks is quite difficult. Playing the long boring corridor levels will leave your thumbs hurting. It is a harder difficulty which is probably what makes it slightly fun. The levels are a little dark. This is a game that would probably benefit from a bigger screen and actual controller. This game feels like a B grade PS2 game. The character of Aya is really nice to have, but there is not much going on here. Some type of portal aliens enter the city and you must stop them. The levels are just too long and the enemies are repetitive. The save menus and upgrades are very confusing. There are too many down sides to make this a great game.

Need for Speed: Carbon7

After Most Wanted came out, the Underground players were probably upset. Carbon is more like the last real Underground game, but because of the name Carbon, I don't think people knew what this game was about. Its like Underground, Juiced, and Midnight Club on top of the Most Wanted engine. The cop AI is not as good as Hot Pursuit 2 of course. The world map is also typical of Underground 2. The races and challenges are exciting. All the graphics, including facial animations are great. The controls also work fine with joystick and keyboard. The sound on this game is stellar. The music is more electronic and I think they knew what type of person wanted this again. But what is this game really? Its like an Underground game with better graphics and a canyon race which is more exciting than normal. A lot of the cars are the same, but there are muscle cars and more german exotics. Its a better game than Underground 2. Its not like they reinvented anything here. So I think this deserves a 7, even though the presentation is excellent. This game was bound to get lost and forgotten with all the other racing games it is similar to. Yes its one of the best Underground style games. You start off with a slow car and its kind of the same gameplay with city tracks.

Resident Evil 65

I don't know how they let the series slip so far below Resident Evil 5. Here the art, enemies, level design, environments, sound design, and animations are all worse. In order to find items you must use the Genesis scanner which adds a clunky extra step. The situations the game puts you into do not make much sense and don't flow together very well. A lot of times enemies, just keep coming out of the walls until you kill a certain number. A lot of times you are forced into really stupid situations that don't enhance the game (like Chris breaking his leg). In this game there is not much imagination or artistry. All of the main character models look worse than before. Jill is now very different looking, when in #5 she was perfect. I also think Resident Evil 5s chris looked better. The game is less theatrical and not well imagined. I even think this game is worse than Resident Evil 4 in all areas. I can't quite say why I disliked this, but it just seems like no one working on the project did a job that was excellent.

Radiata Stories6

This is largely a skip. The graphics has its own look and does work, but nothing else shines. The story is not one that draws you in fast. The writing and acting is vanilla. It starts off with a tutorial and some mindless corridor exploring. The map is also hard to navigate. The battling was nothing special. Its no wonder that this game didn't do well. Compared to other games is one you want to turn off with each cutscene. At the very least its an extremely slow and boring game with OK graphics. Not fun or funny unless you are a child.

I'm not sure how you are able to play this game when you die in 1 or two hits from players that seem to be way more powerful. This is not really a fair strategy game. Its not incentive for new people to play. Also there was not much communication going on in the game. The game is also full of text everywhere which is completely overwhelming for a new player. The shop at the home base and the spells are pretty busy. This has similar problems of a typical RPG except it isn't an RPG. There is some cool fighting going on with similar movements to other RTS games, but the core gameplay doesn't seem to be much. You go in and get decimated by powerful players. End of story. Lastly I refuse to play a game that bans me for playing, and then having to bow out of a match. Games seem to be very long, longer than a physical game would go without any break. Overwhelmingly I can't see why someone would spend longer than 20 minutes getting into this when there are faster action games to play, and better strategy games out there. But its at least playable and runs well on old hardware, unlike DOTA. So its better than DOTA, but I can't say this game is fun at all. You'd have to be kind of **** to think this game is fun.

This is a museum of old arcade games with some nice menus and extras. The games play well and you get a lot of them. This package is mostly for fans of brawlers and action games. The ones that are in here are old, maybe not well known anymore, but VERY fun. This is a must own game. If you have a friend, clearing this games will be a good time.

This is nowhere near as fun as the Dreamcast version. Its missing some detail and it just feels like a different game. The car handling has its own style and of course some tracks are fun. But for the most part this is not exciting to play. I don't know why, but the Dreamcast Le Mans was better in every department. If you play GT3 or Toca Race Driver, totally skip this one.

From Russia With Love7
Sep 27, 2013
Sean Connery being digitized into this game really made it a special performance. This is a more or less a standard run and gun, with excellent controls, and satisfying gunplay. There is sniping and lots of use of the environment. What I liked is how I was immersed into the 007 world. As a game I don't think there is anything groundbreaking, but there is a very high technical achievement. I think its more fun than watching the movies. The sound on this game is amazing! The music and sound FX are all here and they seem to put surround to good use. This game uses a similar engine to Everything Or Nothing, but it doesn't quite become better than that game, which had a few more fun levels than this...most notably there is nothing quite as exciting as the motorcycle or first rappel level. But there is still a lot of new content in this game, cool weapons, and some highly detailed cutscenes, along with the JetPack to make it fun. Q is still in the game and so are your gadgets, so the retro quality of From Russia with Love doesn't make it boring. On the PS2 version I did encounter a bug, where I beat the final Boss and the game DID NOT play the final cutscene and ending. So there might be a glitch or two. In my mind I've beaten the game, even if I didn't save, I had to find the end scenes on youtube. Also a minor complaint is that the standard/high power ammo switching didn't make any sense. Anyway, If you like James Bond, you'll probably love this game. If you liked Everything or Nothing, this one is worth picking up just as much. Forget Nightfire, Agent Underfire, and all those old games. From Russia With Love is one you need on PS2!

Tekken's Nina Williams in: Death by Degrees7
Sep 20, 2013
A decent game that was too harshly judged. Yes the controls are awkwardly placed, BUT the game is still very playable. This wasn't meant to be a serious beat-em-up. Its more like a Resident Evil 1-3 or a Silent Hill with exploration, item collecting, and some health management. The cruise ship location is massive and just fun to explore. There are plenty of saves to find. There are plenty of rooms and objects to examine without out them being too hidden or too hard. The special attacks are kind of fun. Its pretty obvious this wasn't meant to be too serious, but it is fun in its own way. This game really does have some of the best graphics the PS2 is capable of. If you think of this like an older adventure game with a bit of combat you will like it. Its not an FPS or button masher, and I think people thought it would be. There is some voice acting and story here, but its pretty silly. Right now I'd rate it 7. Decent game and you should probably buy it if you like cinematic games and cool places to explore. It will really take you away from reality.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse6
Sep 20, 2013
At first I liked this game. There was a considerable effort made for it. Its a decent team based brawler with some cool maps and good artwork. What bogs this game down is the missions and ugly menus. At some point you will think you have cleared the first act, but you realize you don't know what to do next. You went through every map and killed bunch of monsters, and you realize you don't understand the point of the game. Its very easy to get lost once your 2 hours+ in. At that point it ceases to be fun and you won't play it again.

Enter the Matrix7
Sep 2, 2013
This was a playable game with some parts that were really **** up-the-wall attack system and big levels really made it fun. What was best about this game was its presentation and story that integrated with the movies. You don't have a complete Matrix experience until you've played this game. While not everything was perfect in this on a technical level, I thought it was worth it overall. If you found it too hard, try a cheat code. If you don't like run-n-gun games then you probably shouldn't get this. I thought it was good enough to complete and I loved the levels. Compared to Ghost In The Shell: SAC game, this one didn't have as nice of camera and control. It is still better than a lot of PS2 games out there, and for Matrix fans this is a must play. Tip: Avoid Path of Neo, its worse than this one. OK game.

The Matrix: Path of Neo6
Sep 2, 2013
Points off for repetition, uninteresting level design, occasionally odd animations, and controls that weren't improved. What is cool about this is that some of the levels reflect the movie and are exciting. Just like Reloaded, this game has an operator talking to you during training. Most of the beginning of the game is tutorials and combos. By the time you get to sword fighting you'll find the hand to hand combat repetitive. The animations build up like your not quite controlling Neo. You button mash and he goes into some animations, then button mash to get him to avoid an attack. There is some gun play like the first Enter The Matrix game, which was quite awesome. The first Enter The Matrix game is far superior in level design and storytelling. This game really focused too much on Neo's training. If you played the first Matrix game, lots of the levels in this will be annoying. Only the ones based on the movie were imaginative. It feels like they put in a lot of filler. There aren't enough health packs and you end up replaying levels a bit too much. The game isn't fast paced enough and you feel like your being bogged down by AI just because they can generate more enemies. It would have been better if you just went through levels as an objective itself rather than have to defeat enemies "just because." Sometimes I was impressed by the presentation and detail, other times it felt like the game was created by a first time developer. Get Enter The Matrix which is a superior game.

Bloody Roar 38
Aug 14, 2013
This is a straight-up, pick-up and play arcade fighter that has a polished engine. The animal transformations are a bit creepy, like a bunny in a mini-skirt or a reptile in a bikini. The music is exciting and sounds well mixed. The animations are also dead on for a 2001 title. Colorful graphics, but not incredibly detailed is how I'd describe it. The game is as fast as Soul Calibur and about as easy to learn. There are combos and super moves that do extra animations. The story doesn't seem to be here, and maybe extra game modes, but thats okay. If you find this game its worth picking up for PS2. Its probably going to be better if you have a friend to play it with though. Maybe they should have included some more game modes. I think this game didn't become as popular as it could have been later in the Playstation 2 days because of Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat's influence. There were a lot of fighting games that were trying to get our attention. If they had stylized the characters and gave them more personality I think people would have gotten into this more. Definitely better than all Tekken games, SF EX3, and even Rumble Roses. Probably not as good as Soul Calibur 2. But none of that should stop you from buying this. Try Bloody Roar!

Street Fighter EX37
Aug 12, 2013
For fans only. Its a SF game with similar controls to the older games. It features bad graphics and sound. Menus are ugly and confusing. Basically, a forgotten Street Fighter game. While its better than SF:The Movie, and the tag team option is pretty fun, its still a D or C grade because of presentation. Even the cover art ****. Probably not worth picking up because the new PS3 versions are flashier. Thats what I'd compare it to most. The 2d animated ones were still more popular than this at the time. If all you have is PS2, this is a playable game, and probably better than Tekken. Its just really aged and amateur on the surface. I doubt it uses the full processor. A disappointment, but there is a playable SF game in there which may make it worthwhile to SF fans only. I did have fun for a little bit, but this should have been a major release.

James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire7
Aug 12, 2013
This is a pretty game with sometimes confusing controls. There is no Pierce Brosnen or Daniel Craig here and I think that does matter a little bit. There is an auto aim going on. So, mostly you just run, stand in front of people that are shooting at you and fire back. I think the graphics and animation team did an excellent job that stands the test of time. The sound mix isn't very good at all when the guns start blazing. Everything is too loud. There are some big oversights with the gameplay. The game is on rails at times. Personally I don't think it started off very epic but it still feels like 007. For a 2001 FPS game its not bad, and its definitely better than Nightfire. The graphics and design are definitely some of the best I've seen on the PS2 and thats no small feat. But, get Everything or Nothing, which was crazy fun and challenging, instead. There are lots of James Bond Games nowadays and this one isn't the best. Its a certain type of eye-candy is where this shines with some cool camera work and animation.

Cold Winter6
Aug 12, 2013
This game does have a satisfying gun action and tons of blood. The voice acting is fairly good. The graphics seem to be good at first, but there is a sort of motion blur going on. The stick controls and movement are a bit sluggish. The graphics are better than most games on the PS2, but its pretty dark and moody in a depressing way. The game plays like a Goldeneye a little bit. Enemies are generic. There is satisfying shooting action and level exploration for FPS fans, but games like Black, James Bond games, Time Splitters, and maybe Call of Duty are more fun. I did like the characters and cutscenes. Playing through the first couple levels wasn't inspiring and it mostly reminded me of other games. I would have given this a 7 if the enemy audio wasn't so repetitive. Its just an OK FPS game. If you are a huge fan of the genre that needs every FPS game, then I'd say try it. There are some areas where this is a superior game but I don't think its a must play for everyone.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2004)8
Aug 9, 2013
Stand Alone Complex is a good partner to the Anime and a decent game with excellent graphics. The controls are easy to pick up and play than other games in this genre and there is some excitement and good gameplay here. It does have widescreen support. The presentation is directly out of the Stand Alone Complex anime DVDs so it looks really cool, and better than most 2004 games. You can skip cutscenes and in game dialogue. You aren't forced into a training mission either! There are levels where you play Batou and seem to have fun blasting everything. The first mission is kind of a medium difficulty. You may get stuck if you didn't learn all the controls, namely that R1 button is a grab, kind of like old tomb raider. But its not clunky. I landed most of my jumps in the second level where things really get going. If you are not good at platforming or shooting, this might be a headache, but its not too difficult. This game is sort of like The Matrix games. Run, blast, and dodge to the next switch or checkpoint, with some ghost hacking thrown in. The enemies can't see too far, so I can see what people are saying about AI, but they can be very dangerous in range. Weapons are varied enough to be fun with some management and scouting for ammo. I think this game lacks coherent story, even if you've seen the animes, so maybe a little bit of immersion is lost. The gameplay is fast paced and pretty tight. They could have made more things to jump on besides shipping containers, but overall this is detailed enough. Its a fun game to play that makes you want to beat the whole thing. Its not James Bond level of awesome, but its worthy of collecting and playing.

OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast7
Aug 5, 2013
This arcade style game is sort of like Ridge Racer meets the original 16-bit Outrun. If you don't like drifting, Ferrari, or the original Outrun game, you won't really understand this. The challenge of this game goes from boring to hard a little unevenly, but once it starts to get challenging you feel like its a game worth collecting. It has various game modes, cars to buy, and beautiful backgrounds. The music is really catchy and there are many tunes to unlock. The music is basically sonic the hedgehog or typical sega CD style. I'm not sure I'd recommend this game to a stranger, unless they already were familiar with Sega's past. It does have great music and its a good pick-me-up and play style game. Overall, Burnout and many other drivers will have more longevity for the player. Its not like there aren't enough PS2 racers. The current used cost on Ebay is a little high, but not outrageous. I'd recommend this more for Collectors and Sega fans. I will probably keep it for awhile. Its fun for awhile, and can get challenging if you stick with it.
