Hotline Miami 2 is indeed a fun and exciting action spectacle, but also a little disappointing successor of a great game.

For fans of the series, there’s a lot more Hotline Miami to play here and it still has its moments. For newcomers or people that didn’t get into the first game, it may be a difficult one to get on board with. Review copy of game provided by publisher.

In an effort to be bigger than the original, Hotline Miami 2 bloats the arcade gameplay of the original into an grinder that punishes risk-taking and frequently feels irritating or unfair, not satisfyingly tough.

The subtitle of Hotline Miami 2 should read "Wrong Decade."

Brutal, pensé que seria algo parecido al primero, para mi el primero se centra mas en solo matar pero aun así es buenísimo, sin embargo el segundo hotline miami es increíble. Este juego se ha añadido mucha mas historia y personajes, lo cual me ha encantado, no podría decir un mal personaje, para mi todos están muy bien desarrollados y de verdad que la historia también es brutal, aunque acaba bastante fuerte me parece bien el final, con el final acaba todos los arcos de personajes. También esta segunda parte se me hizo mas complicada pero fue divertidísimo. Si dije que el primer juego tenia buena música la de esta entrega es aun mejor, literal la música como que te hace concertarte mas, pero es buenísima. Casi se me olvido decir que este juego es el doble de largo, el primero se te hacia largo porque recién aprendes pero este se hace largo porque tiene muchísimos niveles + la dificultad. En resumen: puro cine.

This sequel isn't bad but... I'll stick with the first installment, this game just made certain modes more complex than the first making it a challenging experience, I give the masks an 8, because there are some that didn't impress me, and the story... I don't feel the fun essence of the first, from the first minutes I was impressed but as I continued advancing I became bored with the plot, but personally it is a sequel that accomplishes what it intended.

I played only 2 hours and you may say that I shouldn't rate it then, but I feel all the issues were present in that playtime i have with this game and that made me quit. In today's terms I'd say they way overcooked here. There is a sense that they wanted to make Hotline Miami bigger, be more ambitious, get more story, more gameplay variety. But it just doesn't work with this engine. Story scenes feel tedious and forced in, that is accompanied by annoying menuing where you can't just continue where you left off. It frequently cuts off some story parts because you quit when you thought the level was over and it continues from a different point in the mission. These are minor nitpicks but it adds to the frustration. But the biggest issue here is gameplay. Game that was made with the intent to put you into crammed spaces and test your reflexes fighting multiple enemies that can one shot you now forces you to take on large areas in which you cannot see the end and carefully navigate them because you're afraid an enemy will snipe you from a point you cannot even see. It just doesn't work! They try to introduce different gimmicks, "scripted" parts and twist the gameplay formula as much as possible to be innovative but that's the issue. Hotline Miami was praised as much as it was because it was simple and it worked perfectly for what it is. Making all these changes completely ruined the experience and made a fun game a chore to sit through.
