The drifting is an acquired taste (but it's good), the canyon duals are decent changes (though not great), and the crews...well, they suck. Of the myriad new features, the addition of muscle cars and the online functionality are the best.

A great addition to the series for fans and probably a decent rental for most. While things have been upgraded and new elements added on, it’s still NFS and it still gets repetitive and boring after awhile. It’s like EA's "Madden" of racing.

Despite the crude damage, the empty roads and elementary physics, you don't feel that the 360 is really being tested, and neither are you. Nevertheless, NFS: Carbon is a lot of fun, but it's very flawed too. [Dec 2006, p.88]

Carbon almost always manages to feel as finely tuned as any of its high performance sleds, and with downloadable content on the way, it seems safe to think that it'll be an adrenaline generating favorite for a good long while.

The final say from this reviewer is if you love racing, combined with stellar graphics, and some very impressive new features that will have you playing till the sun comes up. Then Head out to your local store and pick up a copy of Need For Speed Carbon. Definitely a must buy.

There is nothing remarkable about it, but Carbon will provide some good fun with its Career Mode and great online options.

It's great fun and forces cooperation unlike any other racer. [Dec. 2006, p.132]

There's plenty to do and the sheer size of the city will keep you busy for weeks. But Carbon's new features don't stand out enough to make it warrant an immediate purchase if you've already raced through Underground 1 and 2, Juiced or Midnight Club.

Need For Speed seems like it would benefit from choosing a priority to stick to: be either a rowdy pursuit rampage or a lustrous street racer unbothered by traffic or law enforcement, as mixing both can leave it feeling much less than the sum of its generously many parts. [Christmas 2006, p.89]

The main issue with Carbon is that it was the first main NFS game to come to consoles on the heels of Most Wanted (2005), and the fact that NFSMW was so good, it was already doomed if it missed. Not only did it missed but it missed by more that 9 seconds. Personally, it was ok and playable once but also, the fact that the next game was better (NFS: Undercover), Carbon became the bologna in between the bread, and just like bologna, you hate it or it does its job for now and that's what Carbon was.

Mediocre, handling is trash, nitrous is broken, cars are meh, progression is boring. I wouldn't recommend.

A stale entry to the series that really nailed in the death of Need for Speed. I think EA's decision to release one NFS game per year, especially when they also have the fantastic Burnout franchise that really forced the market to get sick of the over the top car customization that was good when the Fast and the Furious was first released but just like the films all you can really do is put the cars in new locations and the locations in NFS Carbon are nothing to really remember and this game was just money for old rope.
SummaryWhat starts in the city is settled in the canyons as Need for Speed Carbon immerses you into the world's most dangerous and adrenaline-filled form of street racing. You and your crew must race in an all-out war for the city, risking everything to take over your rivals' neighborhoods one block at a time. As the police turn up the heat, th... Read More
