Megaton Musashi W: Wired offers plenty in terms of a dumb, fun giant robot game. While story issues and performance issues on Switch hold it back from reaching greater heights, the depth of the mecha customization and combat is entertaining overall. The entire package is a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s one with just enough not to feel disappointed.

Megaton Musashi W: Wired has a good-enough story and decent-enough gameplay to keep mech enthusiasts entertained, but the real attraction lies in the myriad ways to customize and overpower your robot. Players will want to spend more time in the hangar than on the battlefield. I think that’s OK in this case, as the battlefield isn’t terribly exciting.

A Correct mecha game with nice combat and a good story, but one that is a bit repetitive too.

The game’s strength lies in its story: it’s engaging, as are all the characters, who are introduced bit by bit. It’s worth noting that it sometimes feels rushed, but Level-5 has managed to weave various events together, letting them unfold simultaneously without feeling overwhelming. It truly deserves a 10/10 in this regard. In contrast, the anime feels very rushed, whereas here I felt right at home. The video game features a large amount of dialogue, but I didn’t find it burdensome. The cutscenes and settings are meticulously crafted, as are the side stories that delve deeper into the characters.Despite the simplicity and repetitiveness of the battles, it manages to entertain. There’s no shortage of more challenging missions and extensive customization of your robots, with the ability to upgrade and dismantle parts to create new ones. I never replayed the missions at the end of the campaign because they’re always the same and repeated a full four times. That’s really over the top. I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel of the story, which promises to be just as good as Megaton Musashi Wired.

Don't make my mistake of buy it physically from Japan. It's in Japanese and it's the first version. (I'm an idiot). I play it all away with Google Translate and swearing, of course. Why am I not going to give it back like normal people? The only flaw I can complain about is the lack of interesting characters and embarrassing frame rate drops in boss fights. If possible, get it in your native language on ps5 and you will have a great time.

no one cares about the story, and it's a pain in the ass to skip, the interesting thing is the gameplay

I never thought I’d be the one to review Megaton Musashi W: Wired, but I’m glad I was. Not only is it an ambitious adventure with a surprising focus on story, but it also features a dearth of content to explore, characters it’s easy to empathize with, and tons of in-depth customization. Most everything managed to feel streamlined and easy to grasp, and some small issues aside, I found the game quite enjoyable. Despite the hefty price point, I’d say this is yet another Level-5 game that’s a must-play for fans.

In many ways, Megaton Musashi W: Wired is quintessential Level-5, with terrific narrative and character writing alongside an addictive gameplay loop that rarely grows dull. Mech enthusiasts and newcomers will equally find facets to enjoy here. However, the story pacing and barrier of entry with mech customization prevent this mostly story-driven experience from truly soaring to loftier heights.

Such a fun game. Megaton musashi w wired is a mix of call of duty, dynasty warriors and front mission. A customizable robotic, hack and slash, with some first person shooter gun elements. The cutscenes are more like an anime. But it does some things wrong that I don't like. First there is no English dub. It's all Japanese voice acting with English text. I paid 75$ for the deluxe and no English voice acting is inexcusable in 2024. Also the pacing of the game is off and on. I don't like how much information they throw at you at once and expect you to understand all of it. The story attempts to explain this, but after the first couple hours of being guided through various systems, I was in information overload. Also you know your game is releasing on the switch and people play in handheld mode. So for crying out loud make the lettering big enough for me to see what button you want me to push when you're explaining things. At one point I couldn't read it so I was just randomly pushing buttons to figure out which one they wanted. So I've complained a lot and you ask why I gave megaton a 9? Because once you get past the first few hours the game is really a blast to play. Not many frame drops, interesting story, good characters, it's funny and has its sad moments. It's really a well made game that has a few issues. Level 5 the developer i remember from ni no Kuni revenant kingdom if I'm not mistaken and they create good games. Overall it's a fun action game and when I'm not playing it, I'm thinking of playing it. And that's always a good thing for a game. But no, it's not perfect. Also if you've made it this far in my review and it says a 10 it's because metacritics system would let me post an 8 or a 10, but not a 9 for whatever reason.

Megaton Musashi W: Wired proves to be a strong return to form for Level-5, offering up addictive mech-battling action that feels like the most slept-on release of the year. Its heartfelt story, dumb-but-fun combat missions, and in-depth character progression offer up an experience that’s tough to put down, even if some elements—like the lackluster online—drag it down a bit. If you’re at all a fan of action RPGs or that distinct Level-5 charm you can find in all the beloved company’s games, we’d encourage you to pick up Megaton Musashi W as soon as possible.

Megaton Musashi W: Wired is a game that has a lot of flaws, and you need to have a genuine love of giant robots to get past them. The gameplay is fun but simplistic, and the story is disjointed enough to be distracting. Add to that the obvious legacy of F2P gameplay, and it is easy to get turned off by the game. However, Musashi can be a lot of fun if you understand the draw of creating a custom robot, hopping into a battle, and hearing an awesome attack name screamed while you shoot rainbow lasers at bad guys.

The focus on online elements positions Megaton Musashi W: Wired as a potential favourite for mobile gamers accustomed to online interaction. While solo and offline play are available, the core experience lies in the extensive online grind alongside other players who prioritise efficiency and rapid mission completion for loot acquisition. The narrative in Megaton Musashi W: Wired may not resonate with all audiences, lacking complexity and English language voice acting. However, it compensates with a focus on bombastic action and over-the-top brawls, reminiscent of the live-action Transformers films. This emphasis on explosive spectacle may hold appeal for players seeking a purely action-oriented experience. Megaton Musashi W: Wired offers a flashy combat experience hampered by a repetitive structure, excessive grinding, and a weak localisation effort. While the frenetic action and customisation may appeal to some, the lack of depth and focus on loot acquisition limit the game's overall appeal.

(MY SCORE : 7.9 /10) Action Mecha Role-Playing Game with Hack-and-Slash Combat which is exciting and quite challenging! In total there are 25 chapters (48 story missions) to complete this game!

It feels a lot like a mobile game whatwith the battle pass and login bonuses. The gameplay is also pretty simplistic and repetitive, with the gameplay loop having you grind forthe same gear with higher numbers.

So, while this game has a rebind menu that works perfectly fine with the mecha... it doesn't change the keys for the story! So if you change the mecha movements keys, you are STILL forced to use wasd to move around in narrative sections. WHY? Lacking a complete, functional rebinding is unacceptable.
