The Ultimate Slasher Edition on Switch might not be the prettiest version of the game, and there are a couple hiccups along the way, but the core experience is still an undeniably fun one. [Issue #46 – May/June 2020, p. 67]
Friday the 13th: Ultimate Slasher Edition represents the culmination of the last two years of development for the iconic masked murderer and his dippy camp counselor victims. As a result, we find a well-balanced and fun asymmetric 7v1 slasher that we can take on the go. The only thing letting this ultimate edition down is the underpowered hardware of the Nintendo Switch. Come for the pure fan-service cat-and-mouse gameplay, but know that it’ll be better on every other platform.
If the super long title doesn't stress it enough, Friday the 13th: The Game Ultimate Slasher Edition is the definitive version of the game.

I'm not gonna lie. The Switch version of this game has BIG problems with it. Bugs galore, frame rate drops, yada yada yada. ...but its also so much fun I have over 900 hours on it. So yeah, I'm gonna give it a 10/10

With the recent discourse about violence in video games, the launch of Friday the 13th: The Game comes at an inopportune time. It certainly earns its mature rating, with a level of gore and violence that would make most people sick to their stomach, but for fans of the horror genre, this is their bread and butter. The experience of being Jason Vorhees is captured perfectly, and all of the feelings of panic and dread are still felt even after hours of playing. If you enjoy being scared out of your pants on a consistent basis, be prepared to scream.

It’s a rare thing when a licensed game can give me a greater appreciation for its source material, but Friday the 13th: The Game is a rare exception. After gaming sessions, I would often find myself switching over to the Hulu app to reacquaint myself with the films. It’s a testament to the love and passion developers Illfonic and Black Tower Studios have for the brand. There is an undeniable sense of satisfaction stepping into the shoes of Jason Vorhees, and playing as his would-be victims is also a hoot. Players looking for a substantial single-player experience will find themselves wanting, but for everyone else, Friday the 13th: The Game is a solid “B.” Given the franchise’s roots, that letter grade seems only appropriate.

This is a feature-packed multiplayer survival horror game, but it’s also an unmistakably downgraded experience when comparing it other consoles.

When it works, Friday the 13th is a truly exciting bout of cat-and-mouse gameplay that offers plenty of thrills and tense moments, but technical issues, clunkiness and a laborious levelling grind can add up to frustration.

The original version had the potential to be a classic multiplayer horror game, but this updated edition still feels as hokey and unrefined as the movies it’s based on.

If you’re a die-hard fan of the franchise, you might get a few nostalgic kicks out of Friday the 13th: The Game. But if you’re simply looking for a horror-themed multiplayer, this doesn’t hold a candle to Dead by Daylight, which itself is coming to Switch next month. Do yourself a favour, and pick that up instead.

Fantastic game. Been playing it for hours and hours. Might have a couple glitches from time to time but it's a very fun game. Totally worth it.

I don't generally bother with reviews but thought it was necessary to warn switch owners about this game . I'm also not sure if this only applies to European servers or whether others are having the same problems. So firstly , When you can get a game to play from start to finish ( Not very often at all ) its enjoyable to play, Yes the graphics wont win any awards and its a little clunky but it has a great tense atmosphere and feels pretty good if you get the parts and escape by car or boat . There is a fair amount of grinding which isn't so bad if you like that kind of thing . Along with a decent selection of maps atmospheric music etc means it has the potential to be really enjoyable . The bad and its really bad , Upwards of 5 - 10 mins mins to find / enter a match (This isnt because of a lack of people trying to play ) , constant disconnects when playing ( all your xp lost ) and glitches in game . I have in a 24 hours period with hours of trying to join games successfully finished around 20 games . This is the first game i where i have contacted nintendo for a refund as i'm not willing to risk £35.99 on a game that may work one day . pretty disgusting to release a game in this condition. Before anyone considers it may be my connection every other game i play on switch or PC is fine . The score of 3 would be 7 or 8 if the game wasn't broken.

On paper, this is one of the greatest game ever adapted from a movie or franchise. It would be awesome really if another company was in charge of this. Unfortunately for us Gun Media is probably the worst video game company ever, barely unprofessional and don't care about how broken the game is. Full of glitch and with a toxic community for the most part, the game is barely unplayable. When you can finally find a party and you'll not be stopped by technical issues, you found only morons trolls who have fun by doing crap all the party. But until the recent update this was still possible to play or at least expected to play. Now Gun Media have simply pulled out most of the bandwidth from Ps4 users to give it to their customers on Nintendo Switch. That's totally inappropriate and is a real bull**it since the game is initially intended to be a Playstation / PC / Xbox game not a Switch one that only emerge recently. The game is basically dead now both on Steam and Xbox and will be soon receive the same treatment on PS4. Additionally the Switch version is so ugly and have the same technical issues as the real game versions. The devs are also lying by some statements as they can't add anymore new promised content due to the legal issues between copyrights olders and writer from the first movie. The fact is copyrights older have clearly stated that they don't want to stop these updates and these cancelled updates are in no way associated to the legal issues. So the devs are just too lazy to add the promised content to original users and focusing on the new cow cash from Switch. They even give new created content to Nintendo customers instead of delivering what they promised. This kind of company must not be supported, don't be fooled by these scammers by avoiding this game. This is really sad since without this awful behavior the game would be a hit.

Please buy dead by daylight or play deceit online instead, sadly this fun game has zero dev support. I am unable to pick my character and my spawn preference does not affect anything, despite locking in I am forced to play through perma random even after redownloading this game 3 times. On top of this I am level 20 and with the rng perk system I have not gotten the only perk I want and the most essential for all players the ability to start with a map. To sweeten the deal people typically cheat and I have been killed multiple games by a jason/counselor teaming to take a car and run people over, and there is no report system. Lastly I always try to play this with a friend on and the online support is atrocious, it will only put you in a full lobby when you que so you cannot join a friend without wasting +5 minutes and getting lucky.
