Nothing in this Remastered is completely essential except Naughty Dog's work itself, which seems not to have aged one bit. [Recommended]
If you’ve been waiting to play The Last of Us Part 2, Remastered is the perfect opportunity to experience this game at its best. Just be prepared for the heartache—in all its visually-enhanced glory.
No, we were not waiting for a remaster of ‘The Last of Us Part II’, now less than four years old. But this new version adds so much to the original that it is by far the best possible way to experience this epic game.

I was angry just like many others when I found out that Joel dies in this game and I refused to play it. I found it disrespectful to the fan base who loved the story of how Joel was so hardened by the death of his daughter, but found love in Ellie. We wanted this to be a story about them. I decided finally to play the game. The game went from a bonding story of survival in the original to a cold story of revenge. Joel and Ellie didn't really have a relationship in this game. They are distant. Then Joel dies. Then she goes on revenge. I hate this game. Why burn what was so beautiful in the original? Which captivated many. Who wanted this story? Who are you really making the game for?

The Last of Us Part II tells a sad and emotional story about revenge, loss, and the consequences of violence. One of the game's strengths is that it allows players to experience the events from both perspectives, adding depth to the narrative and its characters. The gameplay is noticeably improved compared to the first game, offering smoother combat, better stealth mechanics, and more intense encounters. The action sequences are thrilling, and the cinematic moments are presented with exceptional quality. The graphics are outstanding, bringing the world to life with impressive detail and realism. Overall, The Last of Us Part II delivers a powerful story, refined gameplay, and a highly cinematic experience.

This remaster is a great refinement of the already excellent original, The Last of Us Part II. Newcomers should not miss out on experiencing one of the best games released. Additionally, there is enough extra content to warrant a return for those who have already played it.

Regardless of if you’re experiencing the story for the first time, or returning for the $10 upgrade, this is the definitive version of one of the finest video games ever made. It’s worth playing for the story alone, but the No Return mode is an intense and fun addition that might keep you around longer than you expect.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is a more fully-featured and overall superior version of an already-incredible game. No Return makes it worth the $10 upgrade by itself, and the game is an absolute must-buy for anyone who has never played the PS4 original. The Lost Levels are a bit of a letdown and the graphics haven't gotten as much of an upgrade as some may have hoped, but this is still the definitive way to experience Naughty Dog's masterpiece.

Do I think The Last of Us 2 Remastered is worth it? Absolutely. At $10, it’s a no-brainer if you want to revisit TLoU2 on PlayStation 5. No Return is the most fun I've had with the game's stealth-action mechanics yet, and the DualSense haptics add depth to gameplay and cutscenes, putting tension on bow strings and adding physical context to dialogue through vibrations. If you’ve never played TLoU2 but have been waiting for the best version of it, this is it, despite the frame drop issues and the limited Making Of content. No Return is worth the price of admission alone.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is not a remaster at all. At best it has some new features that should have been free. No Return roguelike game mode is lackluster and there is no point in playing it. TLOU combat was complementing the story, and it did so very well – unlike No Return which is basically hide and seek with extra steps. For a layman, the graphic improvements are unnoticeable, especially if you haven’t played it in a while, and there are a bunch of new bugs that were previously absent (falling through the ground, missing limbs on character models, etc). The lost chapters are neat to get some dev insight, but are almost unplayable, as they are mostly alpha. This should have been a free DLC for the fans and not a quick money grab. Naughty Dog, take a note from Santa Monica Studios.

The game suffers from unnecessary narrative contrivances, a primitive plot, and mediocre character writing. There’s a severe case of ludonarrative dissonance, and I have many issues with both the characters’ behavior and the internal logic of the world. The gameplay is narrow and restrictive, which makes it feel terrible overall. The script is outright bad. The only real positives are the level design and the combat. Neil Druckmann, please quit gamedev
