If you seek a simple game with breathtaking scenery and a ridiculous number of weapons and armor, then Arcania Gothic IV is for you.

Besides the handy automap and the journal, the only other positive thing about Arcania is that it's at least better than Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods.

Arcania is more of a restart of the series then a regular sequel – some dedicated fans will be disappointed by its overall simplification but it does not make Gothic 4 a bad adventurous experience. [Issue#197]

An abysmally boring game that lost me within the first half hour of gameplay upon release. Because I played this at such a young age, it was hard to articulate exactly what lost me - however, I believe that if even at a younger age (at a time when video games weren't nearly as deep or technologically advanced), a game fails to capture your attention, it is probably not a very good game. And sadly, that was my experience with Gothic 4.

It's more like hack'n'slash than RPG. It's pretty simple and straightforward but entertaining if you like brainless slashing :) I had fun with that, but it might be a bit like older gothics. Some improvements had been made but also a lot of good things had been removed.

Arcania is a good but not excellent RPG, that tries to continue the legendary Gothic-franchise. To achieve this it unfortunately lacks lots of the gameplay-elements that fans loved in former times. Arcania is still no bad game, but surely too casual for players who are used to other titles of that genre.

Gothic games have been bemoaned for their graphical bugs and sloppy code but things are a lot cleaner and tighter this time around. Gone is the open-world of previous titles, replaced by mundane, rote, disappointingly shallow RPG that lives and breathes in an engaging, beautiful, and invitingly realized world. But for an RPG-as in life-just being pretty isn't enough.

Not great at first but REALLY improves. Excellent Game! Fighting is very fun compared to the last Gothic, and the graphics are super good. A bit short, but definitely worth a try!

Хотя я не особо увлечен этой серией, как поклонник вселенной «Готики», с самого начала очевидно, что этой продукции не хватает качества.

Though similar in title, Arcania: Gothic 4 bears little resemblance to its predecessors. It is a traditional action-based role-playing game, which lets you play as an adventurer in the battle against ancient evil forces. The story and graphics are among the game's strongpoints, while almost every other aspect is bland and unorigonal.

Arcania isn't what anyone thought Gothic 4 would be. It's a marginally competent action/RPG with all the depth of a kiddie pool, not the huge open-world role-playing epics the series was previously known for.

ArcaniA is functional, it looks good, but it offers nothing special in its 20 or so hours. And if this is the bright future of the series, I can already say "May it rest in peace".

In the Gothic games I once knew, to grab the teeth of a Razor, you had to know the required skill. To cook meat, you had to sit next to the fire and get your frying pan out. When you entered a house to steal something, you were promptly tossed outside by the owner. To progress, you had to study the factions. There was life, there was atmosphere. ArcaniA : Gothic 4 is but an empty shell masking no RPG, but just a poor action game with an undead story. What a waste.

I think this game deserves a solid 8.6/10 My only grumble with it is that it seems to have a bug that makes it run choppy. It doesn't seem to matter what CPU you play it with for some people as it lags, especially around the towns. Some peoples systems are OK with it, some are not. All other complaints I disagree with point blank. Some say it isn't part of the Gothic series. I think the main issue with that is that it's shorter by about 50%. However having played Pirahna Bytes games myself like Risen, they took too long to play. Everything was just dragged out. I played the Gothic 3 demo and to be honest, I was only partially impressed. Graphics are stunning. Music is spot-on. Voice acting fine. The story is rock-solid, though it has a bad bit soon after the start; (no spoiler included). Combat is spot on for a third person game: I mean really spot on. I like most of the characters, and love most of the locations. You can just go for a walk in most places, taking in the views, or wandering over a wooden bridge. Even though I am struggling for frame rates, I am loving playing through this, and am about 3/4 way in. This is a game that's charm stays with you and brings you back for more play time. However if charm is not your thing, it may not feel right for you. Whichever way you look at it, my character soon became a mace wielding bad-a$$. This aspect in a world with great design, and engaging story, is a yes from me.

If you want a worthy successor to the Gothic series, this is not what you're looking for but if you want a rather simple hack & slash then grab it, It is fun - 7/10

A mediocre game, but still a choice if you just want to kill your time. Its not a game you will very much enjoy or remember because of the linear world design, the oversimplified combat system and the way the story evolves. In the beginning it looks somewhat promising and feels better. Towards the finale it becomes a button mashing hack 'n' slash where you only want it to finally end. I completely lost interest after 7-8 hours and rushed it to the end, I even skipped dialogues. Graphics are decent, weapon variety is a plus, crafting is ok and scenery is overall beautiful although boring. Dungeons were randomly generated and are boring and tedious. If you want to play a really good rpg from this generation try Risen instead.

I consider Gothic I and II + Night of the Raven among the best games I have ever played. Thats why I cant give Arcania better rating, even though its not that disaster **** but it just doesnt do Gothic justice.
SummaryThe Gothic series rolls out more epic RPG action.
