The Bridge on the River Kwai9
Mar 5, 2026
This is one of cinema's great films, and a very good film even today. If nothing else, it's impossible to forget the Colonel Bogey March once you've heard it.
Mar 5, 2026
Lawrence of Arabia (re-release)10
Mar 5, 2026
Without a doubt, one of the greatest movies ever made. This movie still looks absolutely stunning. It might be a bit "slow" compared to most modern-day cinema, but for anyone interested in film, this is a must-watch.
Oct 30, 2019
Apocalypse Now10
Oct 30, 2019
This is an absolutely stellar movie about the Vietnam War, and one of those movies that makes you question the narrative that it has always been the 'good guys' who won throughout history, or lost, depending on what you consider the end goal for the US was in Vietnam, I suppose. They did perhaps stop the spread of communism throughout Southeast Asia, which, from a utilitarian point of view, might have ultimately led to less potential death and suffering under communist dictatorships - but this movie definitely highlights how absurd and terrible the Vietnam War was in and of itself. I think Full Metal Jacket by Stanley Kubrick is a slightly better movie on the Vietnam War, but this is the second-best, without a doubt.

Gravity7
Oct 30, 2019
A fun thriller, as far as I remember. I distinctly remember one of those movies that was unique at the time due to the suspense constantly building for the entirety of the movie, like the film equivalent of a "Shepard tone", if that makes sense.
Oct 30, 2019
School of Rock6
Oct 30, 2019
I gave this movie 6/10 in 2019 when I rated it without writing a review, and I have absolutely no recollection of this movie as of 2026, so it probably deserves an even lower score, to be honest.

Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood9
Oct 30, 2019
This is probably the Tarantino movie I enjoyed the most out of his filmography (admittantly I have not seen Death Proof). I find that most of Tarantino's movies are around a 7/10; however, I quite enjoyed this one and think it's worthy of a solid 9/10.
Mar 5, 2026
Django Unchained7
Mar 5, 2026
This is a Quentin Tarantino movie if I've ever seen one. Not his best work, but not his worst either, like most Tarantino movies, it's a solid 7/10.
Mar 5, 2026
Inglourious Basterds7
Mar 5, 2026
This is probably Tarantino's second least "Tarantinoesque" movie. It's a pretty entertaining movie, but it doesn't really tackle any of the real horrors of WW2, it paints a sort of alternate retelling of history. Like most Tarantino movies, its a solid 7/10.
Mar 5, 2026
The Hateful Eight7
Mar 5, 2026
This movie was filmed on 65mm physical film, and released in Ultra Panavision 70mm format - which is the format I saw it on in theatres, which was cool - but the film itself is very much a Tarantino film, for what that's worth. If you're a big fan of his films, it's worth a watch, but it's not his best imho.
Mar 5, 2026
Kill Bill: Vol. 28
Mar 5, 2026
The second movie in the Kill Bill saga, and an extremely "Tarantino-esque" movie, given who it was made by. It's a pretty entertaining movie, perhaps a bit over the top at times and a bit "cartoony", almost, but pretty good, and maybe even a bit better than the first.
Mar 5, 2026
Kill Bill: Vol. 18
Mar 5, 2026
The first movie in the Kill Bill saga, and an extremely "Tarantino-esque" movie, given who it was made by. It's a pretty entertaining movie, perhaps a bit over the top at times and a bit "cartoony" almost - but pretty good.
Mar 5, 2026
Jackie Brown7
Mar 5, 2026
Definitely a Tarantino movie... If you're a big fan, or just curious about his movies its a decent watch. Not his best work, though.
Mar 5, 2026
Reservoir Dogs8
Mar 5, 2026
It's a Quentin Tarantino movie - no doubt about it. His first real movie, and it is quite good, all things considered.
Mar 5, 2026
Pulp Fiction8
Mar 5, 2026
No doubt about it, it's a Quentin Tarantino movie. Probably his best movie, to be fair. If you're a big Tarantino fan, I suppose it could easily be worthy of a 10/10.
Oct 30, 2019
The Godfather10
Oct 30, 2019
Unironically, one of the best movies ever made - and a movie pretty much everyone has to watch at some point in their life
Mar 5, 2026
The Shawshank Redemption7
Mar 5, 2026
The Shawshank Redemption is a decent movie, but it's very overrated (in my opinion, of course). AFAIK, it has been ranked #1 on IMDb for 15 years now, and there are more than a hundred other movies on that list that deserve a higher ranking than this. I suppose it really appeals to "the curtains were blue" people, and Stephen King fans.
Oct 30, 2019
The Death of Stalin8
Oct 30, 2019
A hilarious comedy that is largely based on real events surrounding the death of one of the world's most notorious dictators and mass murderers, Joseph Stalin. This comedy highlights the absurdity of the system and the people close to the man who sold the idea of a political utopia and, as a result, created unfathomable suffering for tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of people through ideological/political persecution and repression, deportation and forced settlements, famine/starvation, forced labour camps or outright purges and genocide. The movie is absolutely worth a watch for anyone who is interested in this as a political topic, or just wants to watch a funny comedy with lots of dark humour about a dark and humourless time in human history.
Oct 30, 2019
There Will Be Blood9
Oct 30, 2019
There Will Be Blood is by far Paul Thomas Anderson's best movie, and in large part thanks to an absolutely stellar performance by Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano. Unlike some of Paul Anderson's other movies, this one actually portrays nuance and human struggle well. Its main criticism, which I understand, is its deep nihilism. The movie portrays the dark side of the American Dream and the most extreme version of the "self-made man". If nothing else, I think it is worth a watch simply because it is Daniel Day-Lewis's best performance, as far as I am concerned.
Oct 30, 2019
No Country for Old Men9
Oct 30, 2019
I have not seen many movies from the Coen Brothers, but No Country for Old Men is absolutely worth a watch; it's definitely worthy of being considered amongst the greatest films of the 2000s. It's a western mixed with crime noir, set in relatively modern times (1980s), and, as far as I remember, it is very engaging throughout.

Paprika10
Feb 18, 2026
This is the most unique movie I have seen in years, truly a fascinating spectacle of surrealism. This is *not* a movie for everybody. It's like an intense rollercoaster you just have to experience, and not worry about what is coming up behind the next turn. This is the first film I've seen from Satoshi Kon, and I may just have to watch his other films too. There are many themes throughout this movie which are very interesting, especially twenty years later. A big theme in the movie is obviously escapism, alter egos (e.g. Paprika and Dr. Chiba), but the idea of shared realities and a sort of collective consciousness is very interesting, especially in terms of how technology and media (like films or the internet) can shape reality by altering how large numbers of people view the world.
Feb 12, 2026
Coraline8
Feb 12, 2026
Interesting movie, and very open to interpretations - especially viewed as an adult. The stop-motion animations are absolutely stellar. It feels quite inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and the themes in the movie would probably fly right over most kids' heads, I imagine, but it's interesting nonetheless. I guess the ending was a bit unsatisfactory, but true to the novel as far as I can tell. Ironically, I would have been “too old” to watch this in 2009, but watching it in 2026, I get why this would be an instrumental film for many growing up.
Feb 1, 2026
The Big Lebowski8
Feb 1, 2026
The Big Lebowski is just one of those movies that don't have to make a whole lot of sense to be engaging all the way through. It's a weird, fun, and engaging comedy movie, and one of the few comedies that has achieved cult status in my opinion.
Feb 1, 2026
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny7
Feb 1, 2026
Is it a deep, thought-provoking, **** "good" movie? No. Is it a fun movie? Yes.
Jan 30, 2026
Cowboy Bebop the Movie: Knockin' on Heaven's Door8
Jan 30, 2026
I really wanted to review the series, but I can't find it on Metacritic. The 1998 series is absolutely one of the best animated series of all time, a true 10/10. The movie does not live up to the series in my opinion, but still a fantastic movie. My guess would be that the movie reviewers who gave this a bad score back in the day had never watched the series.
Jan 30, 2026
Metropolis (re-release)10
Jan 30, 2026
I have not seen the re-release, but the original 1927 films is one of the crowning achievements of sci-fi movies. The original is definitely not for the faint of heart, though, as it is a very long movie with no sound, no music, and no colours.
Jan 30, 2026
Ghost in the Shell10
Jan 30, 2026
I think this is an absolutely fantastic science fiction movie that absolutely gets an undeservedly bad rep simply because it is "anime". This is similar to other great sci-fi books/movies in that it is really a philosophical work that explores what it means to be human, what constitutes consciousness, and what differentiates humans from machines.
Oct 30, 2019
Prisoners8
Oct 30, 2019
A really good psychological thriller by Denis Villeneuve. This was the movie that really put him as a director on the map for many people, I think. And it being his first hit movie is evident when watching the movie too I think, but still a really great thriller.
Oct 30, 2019
The Shape of Water6
Oct 30, 2019
I think this deserves a higher score than I am giving it, but this was simply not a movie I enjoyed that much. I generally like Guillermo del Toro's stuff, but this movie was a bit of a miss for me.
Jan 30, 2026
Pacific Rim8
Jan 30, 2026
I think this is a fantastic "dumb" big-robot/mech action movie. Guillermo del Toro nailed it for what it is, but I also understand why the average score is closer to a 7. This is not a thought provoking oscar worthy movie per se.
Oct 30, 2019
Her6
Oct 30, 2019
I tried to like this movie, and I think Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor, but I just didn't enjoy it for one reason or another.
Oct 30, 2019
Pan's Labyrinth9
Oct 30, 2019
One of Guillermo del Toro's best movies, in my opinion and worth a watch by anyone who is a fan of his work, or simply of his "style/aesthetic".
Oct 30, 2019
Spirited Away10
Oct 30, 2019
The first Studio Ghibli movie I ever watched, which kind of traumatised me as a child because I was probably a bit too young to see this when I first saw it, but absolutely worth a watch.
Oct 30, 2019
The Grand Budapest Hotel10
Oct 30, 2019
One of my all-time favourite movies, and my all-time favourite Wes Anderson movie. I think this is a must-see movie for everyone.
Oct 30, 2019
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)9
Oct 30, 2019
I thought this movie was insanely good at the time, and the feeling of it having no cuts throughout the entire movie was really cool, but I don't know if it holds up that well ten years later if I am being honest, and it might be closer to a 7-8 score in reality.
Oct 30, 2019
The Dark Knight9
Oct 30, 2019
By far the best "Super Hero" movie in recent memory, and one of the catalyst movies that kickstarted the whole super-hero movie trend that dominated the ensuing decade or so.
Oct 30, 2019
Fantastic Mr. Fox9
Oct 30, 2019
Probably Wes Anderson's best-known stop-motion film, and for good reason. This is a fantastical and delightful movie based on the Roald Dahl classic, Fantastic Mr Fox. Fantastic Mr Fox is such a key memory, I think, for so many children growing up, that it's impossible to dislike this movie. I think it's great and worth watching for anyone, no matter how old they are.
Oct 30, 2019
2001: A Space Odyssey10
Oct 30, 2019
There's really not that much to say that has not already been said about this movie. It's one of the best films ever made, and given the fact that this was released a year before the moon landing, and was made/filmed prior to humanity having our first full-disk pictures of the Earth from a geostationary orbit is absolutely insane to think about. This is genuinely one of the best movies ever made.
Oct 30, 2019
The Shining9
Oct 30, 2019
An absolute masterpiece by Kubrick. There is a reason that this movie has such a cult following and is often referenced as one of the best, if not the best, psychological horror films in recent memory, even still, close to fifty years later.
Oct 30, 2019
Full Metal Jacket10
Oct 30, 2019
A masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick and a beautiful critique of the Vietnam War and the military industrial complex. Between this and Apocalypse Now I think Full Metal Jacket stood the test of time much better if I am being honest.
Oct 30, 2019
Isle of Dogs9
Oct 30, 2019
The second stop motion movie by Wes Anderson, and honestly a really good movie. It doesn't have nearly the same mass appeal as the Fantastic Mr. Fox has, simply due to it being a original story and a kind of weird premise, but the movie itself is great and worth a watch by any animation/stop-motion movie fan, or just any Wes Anderson fan.
Oct 30, 2019
Sicario9
Oct 30, 2019
Astoundingly good movie by Denis Villeneuve! The night vision/tunnel scene was absolutely legendary. I think this is a must watch movie for anyone who likes watching these types of thrillers about the Mexican drug cartels
Oct 30, 2019
Beetlejuice9
Oct 30, 2019
Far from perfect, but hilarious and good for what it is. If you go in with a open mind, and know that it is a Tim Burton movie I think it is very good for what it is.
Oct 30, 2019
The Royal Tenenbaums8
Oct 30, 2019
One of Wes Andersons earlier movies, and probably the earliest movie of his that I really enjoy. This is a great movie, that every Wes Anderson fan has to watch in my opinion.
Jan 25, 2026
Dune: Part Two9
Jan 25, 2026
Denis Villeneuve is cooking, and I say "let him cook!". This exceeded the first Dune movie by Villeneuve, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next, to be honest.
Jan 25, 2026
Dune: Part One9
Jan 25, 2026
Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune was absolutely stunning in my opinion; this guy simply doesn't miss, and this was no exception.
Jan 30, 2026
Green Book8
Jan 30, 2026
I really enjoyed this film, and the premise of the film. It wont be remembered as a cult classic, but it was great for what it is.
Jan 30, 2026
All Quiet on the Western Front8
Jan 30, 2026
I thought this movie was fantastic. Unfortuntaly I have not read the book with the same title, but the movie was very captivating from start to end from what I can remember.
Oct 30, 2019
Dunkirk7
Oct 30, 2019
It was good, but I think this got a bit of undeserved praise simply because it was directed by Christopher Nolan.
Oct 30, 2019
Blade Runner 204910
Oct 30, 2019
A fantastic movie by a fantastically good director (Denis Villeneuve). This may be a hot-take, but I think this was better than the 1982 Blade Runner movie. If you're a fan of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. **** then you should absolutely give this a watch. And if you are a fan of the movie and have not read the book, then you could give it a chance too, it's not a long book.
Oct 30, 2019
Moonrise Kingdom10
Oct 30, 2019
I think the main characters, Sam and Suzy, are so easy to relate to for anyone who maybe felt a bit like an outsider looking in, growing up. It's a wonderful film for everyone who is a hopeless romantic at heart, but it is also a romantic teenage comedy drama seen through the lens of Wes Anderson - and like all Wes Anderson movies, it's not for everyone.
