All Black, all the time, and could easily have been an exhausting mess. But the movie is coherent, hilarious and surprisingly sweet.

My Review – School of Rock – 10/10
I gave School of Rock a 10 out of 10 because it’s funny, energetic, and full of heart. The music is awesome, the performances are memorable, and the movie has a great balance of comedy and feel-good moments.
The characters are lovable, the message about creativity and self-expression really works, and it’s just one of those movies you can rewatch anytime and still enjoy. It’s loud, fun, and genuinely inspiring.
This is why School of Rock is a 10/10.

School can be great with School of Rock, a movie full of rock vibes and excellent work from the whole cast.

An unexpectedly exuberant, only mildly subversive celebration of music, learning, and going all out for what you love.

The kids, all real musicians performing, are wonderful, and so is Black; Joan Cusack is both charming and funny as the principal.

Even education can't kill the demon of fun in Black. Enroll in his class and you won't stop laughing.

School of Rock, populated by bright-shiny faces given a "Revenge of the Nerds" happy ending, is light and meaningless but never worthless. It merely aspires to be a good time and is just that and nothing more, a grin-worthy buzz that wears off in the parking lot.
50
Feel-good tripe: a string of clichés lashed together by a formulaic plot that features underwritten characters and sit-com style humor.

I gave this movie 6/10 in 2019 when I rated it without writing a review, and I have absolutely no recollection of this movie as of 2026, so it probably deserves an even lower score, to be honest.

One of the more overrated movies of 2003.
Predictable, and short of quality jokes.
Average.

It was a great movie to watch, and Jack Black made the perfect role for Dewey. But the jokes and acting was so cheesy that it hurt. Its still good but the roles had a better place. Jack Black was a star, everyone else was just a spot-taker.
