There's a lot to like about this game and a few things that keep it from being amazing. I love the look of this game, I like the characters, the turn-based gameplay is old-school and fun, the jobs system is interesting and the loot is fun to find. On the other hand, the story is really basic, the side stories are bland and repetative, the game drags on for far too long and there's just way to much needless dialogue. The good mostly outweighs the bad, and for 40 hours I was really enjoying it, but with not much story and very repetitive structure, by the time I hit 60 hours I was mentally checked out.

Just doesn't hit as hard as the first even though it's a more polished/complete game. The story is still nonsense, the combat is improved (still not great), but the core of the game is as excellent as ever. There's just something so satisfying about the delivery gameplay loop and Sam is a great character. I'm still not into the combat even though it's much much improved and feels a lot like MGS5. The story's pacing still all over the place like the first game; it's front loaded with the middle being pretty empty with the end story-heavy again. The story gets tiring honestly, but then again it is mostly nonsense and doesn't matter much. Neither DS1 or 2's story is my cup of tea but the theme of connection and isolation are cool. DS1 hit harder for me, however, as I played during Covid. I also found the music of the first game more impactful. I think DS2 could have been great but Kojima went way overboard in the story (once again). It's weird and wild and wacky and that's great when combined with excellent gameplay but there are a few moments in DS2 when Kojima gets too ridiculous. Come for the gameplay, struggle through the story (that never ends).

The game is dripping with atmosphere and the setting is amazing - a Tokyo ghost story with an emotional story and lots of personality. But the combat... ohhhh the combat. It's a real chore and is the downfall of this game. There are SO MANY enemies and the combat is so tedious that it really hurts the game and made it feel like a chore.

Unfortunately the new Mario Kart falls a bit short unless playing co-op or online. The driving is awesome, but free roam is really, really lacking. Also, I just want to drive 3 laps on the tracks like Mario Kart 8. The interconnected tracks are cool in theory but not as fun to play. Hopefully we get more updates in the future to build on the base game.

The DLC just didn't stick the landing for me. After Elden Ring being such an incredible game, I felt like the DLC felt a bit hallow as certain items are all that matters while levelling and accessories take a backseat. Also, my main complaint from the base game is here in spades too: bosses are just ridiculous in terms of aggression, attack range and chances to hit. Bosses feel more like an exhausting slog than a thrilling battle.

It's a generational game and there's really not much else to add to the conversation. The only thing I'd say that keeps it from being a "perfect" game is how ridiculous some of the bosses are in terms of their aggression, attack reach and difficulty to hit. I'm not interested in a 20 minute boss fight when I get one chance per minute to hit the boss and hove to dodge and block the rest of the fight (Hello Elden Beast!). Also, it's just way the F too long as well. A game this long, combined with the souls-like nature, can make it an exhausting slog at times. That's really my only negatives. The rest of the game is an all-time great.

It's a good game but I feel like it relies so heavily on realism that it puts immersion over fun and doesn't respect your time. It's a game of high highs and low lows for me. Combat is fun once you level up and living the peasant to knight transformation is fun but some of the quests REALLY kill any momentum and storytelling that exists in the game unfortunately. Things would just heat up story wise and quest wise and then suddenly it's back to monotonous quests again. Also the story is painfully thin.

I never played the original back in the day, so I was amazed at how intricate and deep the gameplay is with the paint and thinner. I love that quests span multiple levels, the animation is cool and there's a good story underneath it all too. It runs horribly on the Switch though. Play it elsewhere.

I bought into the hype train hard for this one and it mostly lived up to expectations. But I don't think it's a masterpiece or even GOTY like most of the media does. It's a really solid and fun platformer, but it's also quite simple. I would have liked to see quests spread over multiple stages and more things to do in these stages than just collect Playstation stars of old and puzzle pieces. The dualsense features are absolutely incredibly though and deserve all the praise. It's good. Not Great.

This game is damn near perfect. It's a Tomb Raider immersive sim and it just works so well. Granted, puzzles are a big part of the game, so the more you like puzzles the better you'll fare with this one. The combat is also excellent: hard hitting, fun and funny! The story is pretty good and really had me gripped and happy to keep solving mysteries and collecting trinkets right until the end. Indy is perfect and actually kind of crazy how well he's portrayed without Harrison Ford. Smashing **** never gets old and the more skills you collect the more fun it is to mess with them. It looks great and plays even better. One of the best games I played in ages.

It's really hard to recommend this game, not because it's bad, but because it's way too long and bloated. The setting and combat are actually great and kept me going for about 100 hours. But the episodic-nature of the main quests gets old quick and even takes away from the DLC because the DLCs are both just further episodes. The main story holding the game together is paper thin, and continually going into new zones with new characters and story lines is tiring. The minute-to-minute gameplay, however is good. The game would have been much better at 40-50 hours, something more akin to Origin and Odyssey.

I've never played a game with such highs but felt like I couldn't recommend it to anyone because the lows are so low as to ruin the experience for the majority of players. First off, the great. This is perhaps the most technically impressive game I've ever played. The amount of choice and outcomes is staggering. I loved solving as many problems as I could through dialogue as it was so satisfying. Also, the combat is very deep (annoyingly deep at times), and it feels truly incredible to out strategize your foes. The story is pretty good and keeps things interesting, but the side quests are the real stand out content. So much of the game is so good! Until it's not. The difficulty of this game is depressing. It's not a measure between hard and easy, but instead some parts feel like it was designed by an edge lord trying to break the player - someone who thinks they're far too cleaver but are really just extreme. As the game goes on, fights get bigger, longer and add more and more gimmicks. So you'll fight for an hour before realizing you can't just beat the enemies, you have to solve a puzzle while doing it. Or you're transported to a new section where you're in slow motion and the game is already painfully slow. There are endless obnoxious examples like this and they only become more egregious as the game goes on. It culminates in a final "boss" fight that is just as ridiculous and obnoxious as the rest of the nonsense mentioned here. I'd not say the game is fun, but it has it's moments and it's so technically impressive that I kept going until the end. Something else that stood out is there is very limited XP in this game and if you miss a few quests per area, you'll probably not be able to finish the game. It just feels punishing for punishing's sake. This is a game that demands a guide as missing too much in a blind play through probably means game over. Also, do not play this on the Switch. It's an impressive port in that it works at all, but it's cropped and hard to see the environment around you. Also, the load times are staggeringly long, which really hurts the trial and error nature of the game. I'd like to play Baldur's Gate 3 someday, but I sure hope it's more fun that DOS2.

Fantastic lore - perhaps the best of any Fallout game - and the sense of exploration and discover was amazing. The community was great too, but I can see it being annoying to constantly grind for crappy loot and legendaries, paying Fallout 1st monthly, and all the headaches that come with online play.
