Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom

No gag appears to have been deemed too abstract or daft for consideration, and I mean that as the highest compliment. When

It’s all sheer silliness, of course, and that’s the point, with the dialogue-free storyline providing the possibilities not only for endless cuteness — these painstakingly moved puppets, representing both human and animal characters, are truly adorable — but also a series of witty visual and sound gags that will please children and adults alike.

These movies have always appealed to eight and unders the most. But adults taking them to the cinema will be tickled too, as there are a lot more laughs — all of them coming from sight gags — in this “Beast” than the recent “Minions,” “Toy Story” and “Super Mario Bros.” blockbusters.

Yes, the narrative is simple, and the energy is goofy. But for those who enjoy the endless silliness and physical comedy, “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom” is a joyous, warm-hearted haunt of a film. It’s a new Halloween classic for families, sure to make the rounds every fall.

It’s a charming outing, albeit one that never quite justifies its existence beyond being an easy go-to for parents during the school holidays.
