Hollywoodified slop. The original was apparently considered 'unfilmable' - it seems they solved that by just removing any depth from the plot. This is just a tangle of the generic and tired Holywood tropes dressed in the skin of Asimovs story.

Again, Apple production value, there's no competition. The cast: Laura Birn, Lee Pace, Terrence Mann and Jared Harris are flawless. It's an adaptation, sure, but it is SO MUCH better than any other Asimov's work seen on the screen. I wish it lasts for at least 5 seasons.

It's made in the 2020s , so this has the heavy weight of wokeness , and like many other remakes and re imaginings I really wish there was much more respect for the (culturally) European originals. Hollywood has no respect for the great SF writers , or even for its own older SF brains like George Lucas. Having said that , there is plenty to like in this show. There's great acting, great characters , most of all Hari Seldon and the empire threesome. The ever more unhinged American Psycho style middle Empires are very entertaining , the different versions and morals of all the iterations are fascinating. Pilou Asbaek promises a lot for this new season. The show has always been stylish. So all in all, this is a better watch than any of the Star Wars crop these days , or most of the other woke sf shows.

Like Lord of the Rings, this is ambitious storytelling that transforms a famous series of novels (which don't really hold up by today's standards) into an epic saga for modern audiences. I never finished the novels, but found the series to be very compelling. Seasons 1 and 3 are the best thus far.

The visuals and cast are the only positives of this series. After a pretty good season 1, there has been a huge decline in the quality of the script.

A few episodes into the first season I`m rather disappointed. You can see the ambition everywhere but it all feels generic. There is no real creative vision behind this series, at least so far. It`s not bad but also not interesting enough to keep me hooked. Not sure whether I will continue.

Well, I somehow have gotten to the end of Foundation season 3…. Its beautiful, cinematic, over-the-top. I would go so far as to say I like the show, but I have some bones to pick with it. the performances. The regular actors are incredibly well cast and the script is great. Every now and then a character who is only meant to be in a couple of episodes will be far too over the top and “Shakespearian”. It always comes off to remind me this is essentially a stage play. (will update more later, no time to finish review now.)

foundation is hands-down, the best sci-fi since the expanse there’s never been a bigger undertaking of an early Work sci-fi adaptation in the history of TV in the sci-fi genre in my opinion. The edition of the Cleon empire Dynasty is oddly fantastic and every additional move and tweak they’ve made to the story hasn’t made it better. This is peak sci-fi and not only that it’s peak television and we need more of this. Let Apple TV take on the wheel of time and show us what fantasy is all about next because prime has failed that #SaveWoT #FoundationAppleTV

the storyline of the Emmetators is still interesting to watch, amazing acting and diversity of characters from generation to generation, **** the storyline of the foundation is just disgusting, with each season it is some kind of farce and chaos, I just started to skip this storyline

It's vapour thin, and weightless - it feels like it's trying for the budget of an Game of Thrones in space on a Stargate Atlantis budget (Which I loved) --- there's nothing likeable, engaging about this show... It's kind of annoying - that it seems incompetent people get the nod, approval and budget...

Hmmm, I think a rating of '3' is generous but I'll give it some credit for the production value. I am not familiar with the books so I started watching without any leanings one way or the other. Turned it off after 3 episodes (actually 2.5). The acting is mostly bad - but tough to know if it is the acting or the incredibly awful dialogue. Hard to blame it on too many 'cliches' for this type of genre... but wow - you can almost hear what dialogue is coming before you hear it. Without reading the books - I can't say if the characters have been 'redeveloped' for the TV show? I am suspicious though as it IS AppleTV - who likes to redefine a character to meet some sense of 'dei-culture' (too strong a word but not sure what else to call it). Unfortunately AppleTV continues to ruin its shows by hitting us over the heads with how progressive and inclusive their characters are. Sad state of affairs where AppleTV and Netflix in particular are pumping out some pretty lousy stuff - and trying to pawn it off as prestige entertainment.

An amazing, slow burn show that honored the spirit of Asimov's masterpiece. It actually significantly improved on one major component. Asimov's story never really explained why the Empire was doomed. This series does, and it does it brilliantly.

Beautiful imagery, cinematography, with an excellent cast. The story is engaging and intriguing- a praiseworthy tribute to Isaac Asimov and his limitless imagination, Foundation helps capture the magic of science fiction that any fan of the genre would appreciate.

Very disturbing plagiarism of the original story from the book. I've read the entire Robots-Empire-Foundation series probably 4 times in the last 30 years and it's one of my favorite stories, and take my word for it that I've read a lot of science fiction and epic fantasy. This series has a lot of problems, there is nothing from the story from the book, they just took the names of the characters from the book and made a completely different story that is not even CLOSE to the story from the book, something completely different. This was a very big disappointment for me and proof that not every book should be made into a screen, at least not in this way where the original story is completely ignored.

Horribly written show. Laughable coincidences. Poor pacing. The gender swapped characters are simultaneously geniuses and idiots. The only interesting storyline is Empire/brothers. Everything else defies sanity.

completamente diverso dal libro, la storia è terribile ad eccezione della storia degli imperatori, che infatti non è trattata nel libro ed è stata una bella introduzione. assolutamente sconsigliata

The writers, producers of whoever pretentiously tried to do the Foundation better than Asimov novels instead of trying to do a great adaptation. Full of new cliches of nowadays cinema and tv series the result is a very poor substandard B series. I hope it's cancelled because Foundation novels don't deserve this poor misrepresentation. What a shame! Some other user here said "more laughable than laudable". Not even laughable I'm afraid. Don't waste your time on this.

The trio of excellence belongs solely to the production team, showcasing remarkable sound, visual effects, and cinematography. However, the narrative and performances of the cast earn a disappointing score of -7. Their attempt to reimagine a beloved sci-fi classic results in a rendition that's more laughable than laudable, bordering on cringe-inducing.

Managing to put a series of Books into a series is no easy task especially when it covers 1000 **** isn't a series for everyone when you consider this, and that Isaac Asimov isn't just an advanced sci-fi writer but also a visionary almost one century before us. It is a case of love or hate especially when it involves two types of media, a filmed streaming series (with no easy task at hand) and a series of written books (with more two sequels and two prequels in a total of 7 **** not attach to most of the characters as many of them obviously won't live the 1000+ span of years of the saga of the original **** books are just magical, complex and transcending - if you like the series go read them. There are many differences of course but to go into full fidelity runs into that case of a "book that is impossible to make a **** actors are top notch into their roles and the budget that Apple spent on this one is comparable to a big budget movie (around 70M a episode), with effects on CGI and sound that should be viewed in **** you love true sci-fi do yourself a favor and go watch it: my score is 8,7 out of 10,0 / A.

So much potential wasted on mediocre writing and sometimes unbearable/predictable dialog. It does have some high points (visuals and cast), but some episodes are just difficult to get through. They really need to get rid of the writers.

Absolute garbage. Mutilates and twists the source material into an unrecognisable oversimplified marvel-esque regurgitated nonsense. Every episode makes me rage more than the previous. I guess this should have been expected from Apple.

Like so many contemporary productions of our time, “Foundation” is not Art; its Politics. The agenda in this television series falls in line with all the others: Display complete hatred and disdain for White men, portray them in a foul, unforgiving light, and make them suffer for the masses, all while unevenly misrepresenting minorities, and presenting women as the key to everything. Creating a show of this magnitude in current day and age is no small feat; all the more reason why David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman have completely squandered the opportunity to express respect to Isaac Asimov (an incredibly accomplished science fiction author, and the world’s most prolific writer) or do his wonderful cosmic creation and timely lessons justice. At first glance, any average consumer or science fiction fan would jump at the chance to watch this adaptation: incredible graphics, excellent audio and cinematography, professional actors, Goyer’s writing (he’s a well known professional in Hollywood), and the Asimov name should coalesce into a distinct work of art. Sadly, enter the modern day producer: with a complete lack of sense, consideration to the source material, and an overwhelming need to milk existing intellectual property for every cent it can offer! To say that this series is “loosely based” on Asimov is to spit in his face; this **** blemishes every single aspect of Asimov’s work. Goyer and Friedman, in their arrogance, believe themselves up to the task of rewriting a three time Hugo and Nebula award winner, when, in reality, they should feel dwarfed by his insight and imagination. “Foundation” is the culmination of greed, pretense and apathy at Apple+. They follow the perfect schedule of pretending to be interested in racial equality, making absolutely no innovation or effort, and making a recognizable and respected work of art into a cash grab with a political inclination. This series has been specifically tailored to draw dollars out of your pockets and nothing else. As such, its not art; its garbage. Help the entire planet overcome the unjust wealth, irresponsibility and arrogance of Hollywood: don’t purchase Apple+.

Season 2 has VASTLY improved over S1, and as much as I despise and detest Apple as a company, the production team has made the best sci-fi TV show I've watched in the last decade. The visuals are amazing, most storylines are captivating (not all), the overall directing & acting are generally superb. This show is up there The Expanse in terms of overall story, visuals and sci-fi ness, the only exception is the space combat which is utter trash tier compared to Expanse but in every other important category it's ahead. Lightyears better than any w0k3 trash StarWars show in the last decade in that regard as well (which isn't a high bar I know)...

Foundation, for me personally after The Expanse the second best sci-fi series you can currently watch.I have to say, the entry is not easy because you have to first get an insight into the story but then! Bam! I could not get away from the screen, this series is an absolute must see for me. The only criticism, season 3 is not yet here and waiting for the continuation is really hard. For me, clearly a 9/10 and I hope very much that it goes on like this and gladly may follow even more seasons.

There is still stupid writing and boring, uncharismatic characters. The emperor is the only one interesting character and storyline, he's a good guy who you empathize with.

Season 2 is an improvement -- the story hangs together a bit better, although it still helps to have read the books. Unlike many, I'm fine with the cast, and the visuals are top notch. Some will complain that the series hasn't stayed 100% true to the books, but honestly, the early books just don't lend themselves to this medium. They started as short stories that make it difficult to become invested in the characters.

Why did the writers accept the job if they despise the original novel? Throughout season 1 and the initial episodes of season 2, the series primarily emphasized individual characters rather than the fundamental essence of the original foundational novel, which should have been Psychohistory. It seems that the writers either disagreed with the core value of the original work or simply didn't care at all. The only remnants from the original work are the character names. 2 points for the visual effect and the cast.

As last two episodes were good I am changing score to 6. It is just ok. I still do not understand why they needed to change so much. They had great books, but in their arrogancy decided to fork it up… it could be 10/10 but now is 2. To writers, producers and directors: if you want to know how to do book adaptation: 1. Read Harry Potter 2. Watch first two Harry Potter movies 3. Read book you want to do (a few times) 4. Do it as close to book as possible… and learn from mistakes of others

The changes made to the characters' genders and the addition of a homosexual plot line in the Foundation series seem to lack a clear narrative purpose, which can be jarring for fans of the original storyline. These alterations might disrupt the established dynamics and themes, potentially taking away from the essence of the story. It's important for adaptations to maintain the essence of the source material while adding meaningful elements, and in this case, it appears that the changes could be seen as unnecessary and potentially detracting from the original intent.

I didn't read the books, but I read some of Isaac's Robot series; the minute I started watching this nonsense it was clear that the WOKE crowd got their filthy hands all over this. Forcing the black actresses down on us at almost ever scene, why? I think the next Zulu movie we should have the British played by Africans and Zulu played by the white neo British folk.

What should have been a great adaption of great source material is ruined by writers wanting to make it their own, and the usual casting choices that makes the audience roll their eyes. Hopefully its something writers and casting will eventually learn from.

Asimov is rolling in his grave, about the only two things this show has that the books did is the title and names. After that, they went rogue and made the plot so convoluted as to be border insane. Season 2 episode one was the most disjointed waste of an hour.

Save the names of places and peoples in the story, it has nothing to do with the books. Very disappointing, another big splashy space opera. Everything about the psychohistory stuff has been left out in favor of more classic tropes.

Sounds cliche to say shows were better before, but it's the case, simply because the woke virus is spreading everywhere. Authors don't care about delivering a good story, they will just cannibalize anything they can and then push their agenda into it.

"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent" - The MAIN CHARACTER of the 1st book in the series this action tv show is adapted from, and someone who in this show shoots a bunch of people in uninspired action setpieces. If the issue isn't apparent idk what to say. The 3 points are for the original ideas the show brings to the table that are unrelated to the source material and might've been interesting if explored in a different show.
