Daredevil: Born Again9

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS - I hate that Foggy gets killed, but I loved everything else about this show. Matt and Karen (for the short time she was present) are no longer obnoxious like they had become toward the end of the Netflix series. The Kingpin is legitimately scary again. I will say that Heather’s lack of intuition doesn’t quite fit, but I hope they give more context to that aspect of her character in the future beyond her bias against vigilantes. Also Frank Castle’s re-introduction is absolutely perfect. Jon Bernthal killed it (along with a lot of people) and the writing around his character definitely did him justice. I can’t wait for that series to release next year.

This was thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. At first, some of the line delivery in the first episode had me concerned, but that largely got remedied as the show went on. Each episode had strong writing, and I loved the characters they came up with the make the coven. [SPOILERS] My attachment to the cast made their deaths that much more impactful too.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power7

So much better than the first season, so I’m rounding my rating up to a 7 (though it’s really like a 6.5). They still don’t really know how to capture the writing ability of the books or the movies, but that’s probably wishful thinking anyway. The storyline of the halflings and the stranger still drags a lot for me. So much so that I normally stopped paying attention when they were on screen, but all other aspects of the show greatly improved. I’m hoping enough people watch for a season 3, so they can continue to improve.

I like the premise, but this show is poorly written. A lot of the decisions and scenes are completely illogical, yet predictable at the same time. I shouldn’t be able to predict exact lines from characters before they’re said. Star Wars as a franchise was never really that well written or thought out, but this is bottom tier within the franchise. Maybe (hopefully) the episodes get better in the latter half of the season, but we’ll see. There’s potential here, so I hope they turn it around like they did the Mandalorian after season 1.

The gore gets a little old (or I’m getting more desensitized), but I’m loving how the storylines are unfolding. Homelander continues to be the main attraction with Antony Starr giving a 10/10 performance anytime he’s on screen, and I love how all the storylines are converging and playing off each other. I’m also really enjoying A-Train’s shift. The added bonus is that so many broken “adults” are starting to realize they’ve been the butt of the joke for 4 seasons.

I really like the premise, and I really want this to be better than what it is.I Like the four main cast members, and the plot is decent enough. The writing, however, is god awful. It’s embarrassingly predictable and obnoxious at times. The actors do their best, but if this show gets another season, they need to leave the current writers behind.

Apparently, this show gets better in season 2. I’m on episode 7 of season 1 and I’m currently rooting for the aliens to put every character out of their misery. The writing is some of the worst I’ve ever witnessed, and I’m more interested in how season 2 improves on that more than anything else about this show.

So much potential wasted on mediocre writing and sometimes unbearable/predictable dialog. It does have some high points (visuals and cast), but some episodes are just difficult to get through. They really need to get rid of the writers.
