The story is actually pretty simple and some kind of funny . And I thought multiple times if it is kind of a fable or something like that. But then the drama gets always more intense.

The only part I enjoyed was the brief moments when the PIG was on screen. The rest was faux deep and meaningful drivel.

A weird movie. But weird doesn't equal good. A fairly useless and unentertaining film.

Just because the ingredients are all there for a soulful, beautiful, thoughtful movie it is missing a pulse. The same mistake made over and over by filmmakers with semi-mute characters: you need more interesting moments than walking. All the cinematography in the world can't save the idea that there isn't much meat on the bone here.

This is a very mysterious film, quite dark in tone and lighting wise at times, its a slow burn as far as the plot is concerned and it's certainly a bit of an acquired taste I suppose. It has an arty feel to it, certainly. The main character has quite a caveman type look and feel to him and his background is very unclear for the most part, which is where the mystery mainly comes from. There's relatively little dialogue present at times but it doesn't suffer too much from it - its a film that's mainly visually focussed, if that makes sense?. This is definitely a quirky watch but not a bad one. I'd recommend it, yes.

That'll do. 'Pig' is a good film, made very good by its conclusion - which threw me, to be honest. I wasn't, up until that moment, overly invested in the story, but when the reality hits home I actually felt my stomach sink for Nicolas Cage's Robin - unexpected! Cage does put in a neat display, I enjoyed his performance throughout. Alex Wolff and Adam Arkin add positive bits in their respective roles, too. It's a 2021 flick that is well paced, well shot and well told. Recommended.

We've wanted to see the film for a long time. As the truffle is buried in the dirt and yet so noble, so is the role of Nicolas Cage here. More and more neglected and removed from urban society from time to time and yet still fully respected and valued. When the protagonist Rob returns to the industry stage after a long time, you quickly realize who has infected and inspired others with his passion. It doesn't matter in which outfit the protagonist is sitting in a posh restaurant. It's a rather sad and quiet but also very down-to-earth film that exudes an incredible amount of charm. With its 91 minutes, the film has the perfect length and can therefore take the liberty of letting some scenes breathe a little longer. Nicolas Cage plays phenomenally well here and you can literally feel this brokenness throughout the film through the TV screen. Most of the supporting characters are also solid and fit well with the film's subtheme. What I think is really great is that after the first few minutes you think you know which direction the film is going, but in the end it's not like that at all and the film goes a nice different way. A film that you can grasp, that is authentic and shows that you don't need a big budget for a well-made film. 4/5 8/10 truffle pigs.

Despite its fine atmospheric cinematography and excellent performances, director Michael Sarnoski's debut feature doesn't serve up a story to match its ambiance and trappings. While watching this offering, I got the distinct feeling that I was being strung along, hoping that its cryptic unfolding would result in a satisfying payoff yet suspecting it wouldn't live up to that promise -- a suspicion that proved correct. In this story of a once-noteworthy chef who turns into a reclusive truffle hunter in the Oregon wilderness after a personal tragedy, we find a sad and lonely protagonist who becomes distraught when the only thing he truly cares about -- his beloved pet foraging pig -- is kidnapped. The incident prompts him to launch a committed search for the purloined porcine, one that necessitates a return to his Portland roots and his troubling past. Strangely obsessive and offbeat as the story may seem, it's executed with a surprising degree of credibility, yet it never quite attains a level of engagement that would make viewers really want to care about what's going on, cold as that may sound. It also attempts to wax philosophically on a number of occasions, though this aspect of the narrative, like the story line overall, nevertheless feels underdeveloped. Still, the film marks Nicolas Cage's commendable return as an actor worth taking seriously, and it shows considerable potential for a new filmmaker. But, sadly, there's not enough here to reach out and grab the audience's attention to give them a vested interest in how it all turns out. Better luck to the director in bringing home the bacon next time out.

A strange concept for a movie, and in an era of nothing but reboots, sequels, and bad writing, it's certainly not one you'd expect from modern-day Hollywood. This movie is a reminder that out there, there are still some good writers and directors that just care about making a good movie. Pig is about a Truffle Hunter whose beloved Pig is kidnapped. He risks his life and stability to delve back into his past to find his Pig. It may not sound that exciting, but it's actually a surprisingly intelligent story and proof that Nicholas Cage can still act if given good material to work with.

Following a personal tragedy, a man of once high standing retreats into the Oregon wilderness to live the lonely life of truffle hunter away from the rest of society in order to escape the pain of his past. When his beloved foraging pig is stolen however, he returns to the seedy underground of the world he had left behind to confront some familiar faces and get back what was taken from him. Sounds like the premise for a good action movie, right? Well, Pig is like the total antithesis to that. As if writer and director Michael Sarnoski watched something along the lines of John Wick and thought to himself "what if the character solved the problem nonviolently?" In a time when we're seeing Nicolas Cage's name attached to only the strangest, most outlandish projects out there right now, such a serious and thoughtful drama may seem like a disappointingly normal choice for the Mandy star. Right from the beginning we're treated to lingering shots of outdoor scenery and a quiet tone reminiscent of contemporary arthouse flicks that slowly opens up into a emotional tale about love, loss, and what's really important in life. We also witness Cage give a more grounded performance where even in the chances he does have to raise his voice it's done without the usual tinge of insanity that's sort of built his brand. I assure you though, this just as weird as anything he's been in lately. For all it's thematic depth and complexity there's an inherent strand of goofiness running throughout the entire thing. The way the story portrays the selling of rare fungus to restauranteurs as being a dark and dangerous business is so absurd it can only be true. The National Treasure himself even walks around with a bloody, beaten face like a man on a warpath to the concern of absolutely nobody. That's because this is low-key parodying brutal revenge cinema. It's never explicit with its jabs at this other style of film so the experience is far from comedic, but those really paying attention will pick up on the subtle undercurrent of humor present in the plot. It ends up being the perfect touch as it makes the experience just off-kilter enough to fit it's leading man while still maintaining the air of poignancy and depth that has won it so much acclaim. I do wish its peculiarity had been allowed to shine through a little more though. Particularly in those first 30 or so minutes where you're somewhat bored trying to figure out what the narrative is going for. Yet, when it starts to finally come together you get a solemn, albeit moving narrative that preaches basic human decency over aggression. Making it a delightful oddity with something to say in the career of an actor who's appeared in a bunch of them that don't.

Pig is an emotional film that hits a few highs and lows throughout and is capped off with a fitting performance by Cage. Definitely felt like the story was stretched out a bit to hit that 90-minute mark and it can be a little slow at times because of it. The scene with the underground fight club didn't really make much sense but sure, why not. It's a flawed movie but a tolerable one. Worth checking out but not one really worth ranting and raving about IMO.

Absolute rubbish. The middle section of the film you have to ask 'wtf was that about?' and as for the ending. Don't bother with this film, you'll be disappointed.

Movie tries unsuccessfully to be deep. Really bad plot. I do not understand why so many reviews are positive. Pretentious, and Cage's acting is really not acting, but keeping a paralyzed/unemotional face for the entire movie. Skip.

Another win for Nick Cage. I'm beginning to wonder if he doesn't just load up his repertoire so he can wow us by hitting one of them out of the park. He made some stinkers this year too, but throughout all, he's Nick Cage and we love him for it. This was one that he knocked out of the park.

Nicolas Cage gives an emotionally gripping performance in PIG, a film about loss, love, grief & confronting the past. From first time director Michael Sarnoski, Cage plays Rob, a truffle hunter living alone with his pig in the isolated woods outside Portland, Oregon. His valued pig is kidnapped, forcing Rob to travel back to Portland after 15 years of isolation in attempts to find her. What transpires is a film that goes beyond the search, with Cage's Rob confronting people and places left behind and facing a myriad of emotions. Features a strong cameo from actor Adam Arkin (TV's "Sons of Anarchy," "Chicago Hope").

This was the most anti-climactic mindless story, there's virtually no character progression or back story, so you have little to no connection to any of the characters. Nic Cage showed barely any emotion till the last 20 minutes of the movie and I can't think of a single memorable moment in the entirety of this film the only saving grace was the cinematography.

This has been an really enjoyable movie. I think this might be one of the best performances by Nicholas and the guy really gave it his all. The entire movie has this feeling of sadness that was partially eased by the end and in a twist of events it returned in full force(Loved the ending). The idea also of a truffle hunter to go find his kidnapped pig is decent and we actually see the entire journey of the product( From the Forrest to the Kitchen) and all the people that take advantage and use it. This movie isn't for everyone and to be honest you need to be in a specific type of mood to fully enjoy the experience and tranquility that the movie provides. Overall it has been a great(even if sad)movie.

Quite a pleasant film with an interesting story. However, I can't say that she really hooked me. For some reason, I couldn't really get into the characters and so I just watched in dramatic moments. In general, the film is good both visually and in other qualities, but unfortunately it did not impress me and almost did not cause any emotions.

Beautiful movie with excellent pacing, cinematography, and acting. A story that zigs when you think it will zag and resonates even more against the backdrop of the kind of movie you think it will be, but isn't. I love that movies like this can still get made. The restaurant scene alone makes it worth watching. First time director, and I'll be watching Sarnoski's next film as soon as it comes out.

Nicolas Cage gives one of the best performances of his career in PIG, an anti-revenge drama if such a thing even exists, and one of the most endearing films I've ever seen. Filled to the brim with striking cinematography and a beautiful soundtrack, PIG is eloquent while being subtlety funny at times. A romantic's John Wick, PIG is easily one of the best movies of the year, if not the best.

Overall, the film capitalizes on subverting expectations of genre and its star power (i.e., Nicholas Cage "going crazy"). And it does this quite well. That's the gist of the high ratings. Would it be as highly acclaimed had it not been for this Cage-driven gimmick? I doubt it. It is relatively haphazard in hitting its plot points (going from "new environment" to "new environment" in the search) in order to achieve this subversion of genre and Nicholas Cage being Cagey. All in all, it is a good movie (well shot, solid performances - Cage is great, alongside a great approach towards the topic of pretentiousness, the bourgeois, and loss). But I do believe the gimmick of subversion is what led to the "fanatical" reviews.

Alright Nicolas Cage fans, this is the moment we’ve been waiting for. It’s 2021 and Pig is finally here, if you haven’t heard of this film until now where have you been? Rob the truffle hunter (Nicolas Cage) lives an isolated life deep in the Oregonian wilderness. He is forced to return to his past in Portland when his beloved truffle pig is stolen. Clearly Rob has a mysterious past and once he starts searching for his pig in the city he must face some past traumas. I don’t believe I’m alone in thinking Pig was going to be something along the lines of John Wick but with a pig. Despite the warnings Pig really isn’t the film you expect and that’s not a criticism. We all know Nicolas Cage has a wide range of performances, from exceptional to exceptionally terrible. You don’t always know what you’re going to get but Pig is without a doubt one of Cage’s best performances. It’s not full on Nicolas Cage (eg. Mandy) it’s a much more subtle performance and unexpectedly emotional. The story itself may seem a little slow at times and honestly I’m glad of its short running time as I don’t think it needed to be any longer. It carefully and quietly deals with themes of loss and death and honestly takes a lot of unexpected turns. It may not be for everyone so any of you expecting John Wick may want to skip this one. Pig is one of those films to remind us all why we should love Nicolas Cage. A certain cinema chain isn’t listing any showings for Pig surprise, surprise. So you may have to travel past your local cinema to see this one but don’t let that stop you. Highly recommended and a must see for all the Nicolas Cage fans.

7.5/10 If they rather make a story about Nic Cage wife or Nic Cage daughter got kidnap rather than Nic Cage Pig, it could be a way heartbreaking story and way better movie, i just didn't really feel (just a little bit) and worry about the Pig, why?, because it's a Pig!, but besides that, Pig was still have some good things in it, the movie it's not long and it didn't feel long too, added with Nicolas Cage great performance, Alexis Grapsas and Philip Klein beautiful score, Pig is still pretty good.

The poster and trailer of the movie may totally fool you. Obviously, Nicholas Cage may kill your interest. But it's not an over the top ridiculous package rather a slow burning journey to the soul of the character. Only Hollywood can create such movies.

Pig is one of the best films I have seen in years. It is a brilliant and captivating movie about depression, loss, and the inability to move on after tragedy. Also, Nicolas Cage and Alex Wolff give emotional and realistic performances that are definitely worth seeing. In my eyes, this is a best picture contender.

It goes in a very different direction that you may think, which is a nice surprise. Nick Cage gives a powerful subtle performance and reminds us that he's still a great actor when he wants to be. The cinematography is excellent; its a beautiful looking film. It's a somber slow-burn kind of film, and it won't be for everyone but I say it's worth checking out.

It's impressive for a debut feature film, but like many first efforts, it's not perfect. It's writing possesses an uneven storyline and an inconsistent tone, although the themes of death and loss are well-explored. The triumph in 'Pig' however, is the acting. Nicolas Cage puts on what is probably his best performance since 'Adaptation." He perfectly captures the loss and determination underneath a character clinging onto his sole true companion, even if it is simply a pig. The movie as a whole left a lot to be desired, certainly with areas for improvement, but even with its sometime slow pacing, the realistic acting keeps from becoming just a weird, overreaching melodrama.

A very nice surprise! You'll enter 'Pig' expecting a big pile of bodies, but the sole thing that'll get piled up are tears. Even the bad guy has a small arc worth exploring. But the best part is that Nicholas Cage gives one of those stoic performances that'll make you remember the best moments of his career. Check it out.

This is what a movie should be. Doesn’t have to always make a statement, vague as life, no need to have a catchy relatable climax. Awesome directing, acting and a raw feeling overall.

A boring ass movie where nothing happens. The trailers are specifically edited to make this movie look interesting. It is not. Literally nothing happens after the first 10 minutes. It's like an art student film they had someone come in and "fix" the advertising to make it look more interesting. If you watch movies for the visuals and not the story or drama this is the movie for you. If interesting stories, drama, or plot are what you like this movie is a solid 0-3 out of 10 depending on how much you like art films.

Pig is a drama and thriller. The story is real, authentic, touching, and emotional. Such Individual movies are known as "Cinema" and are the building blocks of the Hollywood Industry. Such movies aren't considered worthy of watching and praising just because they don't belong from a Franchise or Studio. I love watching such movies but only a few movies touch me deeply in this genre like Joker 2019 and the Pursuit of Happiness were my favorite individual movies. I watched this movie but I didn't find its story epic. Yes, it was a good and decent story but as I said that in this genre, only a few movies can touch my heart but unfortunately pig wasn't among all that. But But But... the character of Nicolas Cage is just amazing in this movie and an Oscar-winning character. His character development was too good and his performance was just excellent. I would only suggest you watch this movie for Nicola's performance. The scene where the protagonist was confronting a specific character in a hotel was outstanding. It's an emotional story of a man dealing with his past and present loss. You would love it if you love such poetic movies. But this movie isn't for everyone.

(Mauro Lanari) Once again in the psychothanatological area, coping with the death of loved ones or the mourning of any existence is a topic that in the 21st century should be treated starting from the 1st season of "True Detective", while the debutant Sarnoski takes the shortcut of instilling silence with the silence, loneliness with the loneliness, emptiness with the emptiness, sadness with the sadness and so on. It's called the rhetorical method, and I am not aware that aesthetics has ever changed its mind on this point.
