The Crystal Skull is, in many ways, another classic Indiana Jones adventure that follows the old formula. Car chases, ancient puzzles, booby traps, fun sidekicks... It's also the first one to really change anything. There's actual continuity, referencing things that happened in past adventures, occasionally veering over into gratuitous fanservice. The action works pretty well, though it's a little suspicious how often the camera cuts away when Indy's in a fight... This is the first film in the series after CGI became commonplace, and for 2009, it's not bad! But it'll never compete with real, practical effects. We know that snake isn't real, and they aren't in any real danger. Better for the actors, I suppose, not working with real animals. Crystal Skull stands out from the others, in that Indy is much older now, and so are the audience members who have fond memories of the originals. Thing is, the original trilogy felt like it was recapturing the magic of classic serials, and had a certain passion for it. The sequels here are trying to recapture the magic of Indiana Jones, and it's completely different. Less exploring the world by introducing new characters (read; "old friends"), more returning old ones and fun references. It's not as passionate, more like going through the motions, which is coincidentally what Harrison Ford is doing.

A sequel came out a few years later, and unfortunately, the quality took another hit, but what can you do... It had good characters. I still thought it was a bit better than the second installment. A good villain. Some nice surprise moments. The locations weren’t as appealing to me as in the previous film. But overall, it was fine. The ending was maybe a bit too much of a CGI overkill. I don’t know what else to add. Good. Nothing more. It doesn’t come close to the quality of the first or third installment, but still, it was a good movie in my opinion.

My first and last Indiana Jones experience. I suppose this is what Marvel must have felt like for the older generation. Cate Blanchett was absolutely electrifying in this.260312 (4.0)I watched this in the theater back in 2008, and it served as both my introduction and my farewell to the Indiana Jones franchise. It’s fascinating to think that for a previous generation, Indy was their version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—a larger-than-life hero who defined their theater-going years. One of the absolute highlights for me was Cate Blanchett; her presence on screen was incredibly thrilling and added a sharp, charismatic edge to the adventure. While I haven't felt the need to dive back into the older films, a 4.0 rating reflects how much I enjoyed this specific spectacle. It was a high-energy, polished ride that gave me a taste of that classic blockbuster magic, making it a standout memory from 2008.

Two decades after The Last Crusade, all the pieces finally fit back together for this long-awaited reunion between George Lucas, Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg. Tough to recapture that same old magic after so much time apart, but they actually manage to get it done... for a while. I can remember loathing this in the theater, avoided it for years on that merit, but my kids wanted to give it a try and I figured enough time had passed to give it another chance. The first hour is, shockingly, rather painless. A carefree romp that, admittedly, isn't on par with its distant relatives, but at least it's in the ballpark. We've got era-appropriate villains (the traditional **** smartly replaced by Russkis to fit the cold war), deep dives through crypts and libraries, warehouses stuffed with artifacts, whip-slinging physical action... even crotchety old man Ford seems to be having a great time. Hell, I didn't even mind a peak-overexposure Shia Labeouf, vacantly kicking around the screen as a greaser tagalong. Yes, the infamous nuke-fridge scene occurs during this part of the film, and it's still an eyeball-roller, but that's basically just one throwaway bit and the plot quickly moves to conceptually greener pastures. I found myself thinking, hey, maybe I was too harsh with that first watch. Then we reach the jungle and the wheels come off. Practical effects give way to glaring CG. Themes shift from the mythical to the absurd. Credibility goes sailing out the window. I know what Lucas and Spielberg were thinking. This is a series that's been built around stretches of the truth, poking and prodding reality until it doesn't seem so outlandish to be literally chasing the holy grail or whatever. They wanted to stick to that concept, push the envelope just a bit further, play with the cheekier sci-fi concepts popularized during the late '50s. But man, oh man, did they misjudge. Somewhere between the vine-swinging tarzan monkeys, the trans-dimensional space aliens, the man-eating insects, the moving-vehicle swordfight and, yeah, that silly bit with the refrigerator, we shed our tenuous connection to the real world and lean into something more ludicrous. They've pressed their luck way too far, taken their audience out of the moment, and suddenly we've noticed the holes. Crystal Skull might not be quite as thorough a stinker as I'd remembered, but man, it's still bad.

Although controversial, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is my personal favorite Indiana Jones film, combining the historical and fantasy elements with science fiction. It was spielberg's last Indiana Jones film, and would’ve been a great enough end to this landmark franchise.

There are some good moments here, but the film as a whole was not needed... But I like the ending ;)

Voir un vieux faire des cascades et même… faire Tarzan dans un hangar, le voir faire le zouave dans des poursuites improbables… poursuivi par ces salopards de Na… non, pardon, des ordures de Rouges, des enfoirnazes de Cocos (copains comme cochons avec Mélencon et sa clique stalinienne etc, etc…) ! bref, voir ça et… passer en avance rapide ! Surtout qu’il est accompagné du trouduc Shia Labouffe et que la méchante est la vilaine euh… comment qu’elle s’appelle déjà ? on s’en fout, elle est vilaine pour de vrai, elle est moche de toute façon ! et mauvaise actrice avec ça. Et puis, un autre grabataire s’est joint à l’hospice dans la jungle : John Hurt ! et franchement, le bât blesse… sans oublier Mamie (enfin presque !). Et puis, déjà, rien que le titre, on se doutait bien que ça allait être de la merde… deux abrutis (dont Georges le nain de jardin bien connu) ont pondu une histoire complètement con et un troisième blaireau en a démoulé un scénar de nanar de crevard (mais avec de l’argent, oui, oui) encore plus débile et ridicule, du début à la fin ! D’ailleurs, je parle du troisième âge ici mais plus de 10 ans plus ****, c’est encore pire avec encore un autre Indiana Jones (!), puisque Papy Ford en veut encore (du pognon)… sauf que paradoxalement, le dernier (?) n’est pas le pire… mais bon, au royaume des aveugles, etc, etc…Donc, c’est n’importe quoi de A à Z et même les effets spéciaux numériques ne sont pas extraordinaires… car tout ce merdier est bâclé, en plus d’être déjà si mauvais…! quelle infamie et quel déshonneur, Monsieur Jones…

this movie is terrible and has a lot of false arguments like Pancho Villa was in Peru? Cusco is a Detroit City? Seriously? Horrible.

The bad part of this isn't the movie itself, but its existence. Spielberg should've just moved on to something new, instead of waiting 15 years and then releasing a FIFTH one.

I genuinely like this movie! I agree that the CGI is overused and distracting and there are some silly moments but for me, they don’t detract from what is ultimately an enjoyable ride that still has the spirit of Indiana Jones. I don’t know, these movies should just be fun and I think this one is!

Say what you want to say about this movie, but you got to admit it was trying to be creative. Mutt was a OK sidekick/son to Indiana Jones.

What can you say here. This outrageous silly film speaks for itself. Good old Ox is the least crazy character.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is an average addition to the series. While it has its moments and offers a dose of nostalgia, it falls short of the greatness of its predecessors. This gets way more heat than it deserves. It's 2 hours of pure popcorn fun. Its one major flaw is that it lacks the solid emotional foundation that the original trilogy had. There's no real depth or stakes here. Not that I'm watching an Indiana Jones film for profound storytelling - but it does feel like something is missing. The aliens, the CGI monkeys...those things don't bother me so much. If Spielberg had the technology we have today at his disposal in the 80s, the originals would look and feel a lot different than they do, so visually I don't think it's fair to make that comparison. What ultimately is missing is Spielberg's heart here. There's a lot of fan service, Ford is outstanding and it moves at break-neck ****'s a fun movie, but it's a fun movie with no heart. Overall worthy of the series, but definitely the weakest link.

Don't get me wrong, it is the weakest of the 4 Indiana Jones movies SO far, but it still is entertaining enough.

Stands on its own, and at its very core, this is still a fun movie. At the very least, we still have Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and John Williams. Nothing can go wrong with this combo.

This is the movie that I would most like to unsee. It was simply a cash grab with no plot.

Considering the ridiculous levels of hype surrounding this movie, Lucas and Spielberg came together in excellent fashion to deliver something new to the audience. Far more enjoyable than most would have you believe. Is it as good as raiders? Not many films can say they are but it is filled with careful detail and made with great artistry. Sadly the overuse of CG visuals hasn't stood the test of time and distracts from the otherwise decent effort.

It is much much better than everybody says. It is complicated but that doesnt mean it is bad. It is good to watch it multiple times. It is also funny and probably the second darkest indiana jones movie (after temple of doom of course.)

I agree Indianna Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the weakest of the series and has a lot of flaws. But it is not a bad movie. The story is not as well-thought out and paced, the script lacks that extra wit and energy, the film can get too slow and Cate Blanchett is wasted with a rather unexceptional character. And the film is perhaps a tad too long too. But.. it does look great, the costumes, sets and cinematography are still truly fabulous, and the music score is rousing enough. The action is often breathtaking, such as the motorcycle chase through a university campus, the pursuit through the Amazon Jungle, the giant ants, the secret passageways and even the alien visitors, and I liked the old school stunts. Harrsion Ford displays a good amount of world-weary charm, and Shia LaBoeuf is likable enough. Overall, it lacks excitement but it is not a bad film by all means. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Close Encounters meet Indiana Jones?, hell yeah!, i love it, it took 18 years since The Last Crusade, Spielberg's take a seat in the director's chair again which is pretty rare for a franchise that have been uncontinue for that long, with a technology improvement, 66 years old Harrison Ford that still killin' it, the returning of Marion, and Shia LaBeouf and Cate Blanchett amazing job, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was a blast, i have a lot of fun and a good time watching it, it is the first (as of right now) perfect movie franchise that i watch, with this one in the second place out of four, it's an amazing movie and only Spielberg that can do it, only Spielberg.

There's nothing wrong with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it is a perfectly fine film and emulates the Indiana Jones forumela just fine. I find it ridiculous that that people have no problem with things like the holy grail and having **** souls ripped out by a paranormal force, but **** going after possible alien technology is hard to accept. I personally enjoyed this film, it provided the same exhilarating joy the previous films provided when I first saw them.

Why? This is one lazy, half-baked effort that is a sour way for this, up until now, fantastic franchise to end.

O filme me entreteve do inicio ao fim. As cenas de ação foram diversas, apresentando situações cômicas e surpreendentes, do jeito que estamos acostumados em Indiana Jones. A cena do bar e a perseguição de carros na selva foram as minhas favoritas A historia me manteve curioso. Quase tudo nesse filme teve uma amplitude maior. Isso geralmente é algo que me incomoda, mas aqui da certo na maioria das vezes, principalmente tendo em vista que os filmes antigos não são lá "pé no chão". O McHale me encheu um pouco o saco mudando de lado o tempo todo, mas de forma geral, nada me afastou da trama. Não posso deixar de comentar que os efeitos especiais acrescentam na magnitude da trama. A cena icônica da explosão nuclear + a nave alienígena saindo com tudo do solo foram excelentes. O elenco tá muito bem. E pra ser sincero, até me surpreendi com o LaBeouf, que tava bem a vontade aqui depois de um certo tipo de duração do longa. Harrinson Ford não precisa fazer muito esforço pra ser carismático - aqui ele se sente em casa. Não vou dizer que uma continuação era necessária, mas eu gostei do desfecho, e como entretenimento me satisfez. Alias, já posso considerar que esse filme aqui é muito superior ao segundo, que detesto.

It looks like you brought a knife, to a gun fight. A pretty good Indiana Jones movie, I don't think it's better than any of the previous ones but its still a good movie. I can agree the movie's got some stupid moments throughout but there's some really good scenes throughout this movie as well. Also, the score for the movie is really nice and it's probably as good as it's been composed for the others I'd say and it's still made by the legend John Williams, so that's another positive. Overall, it's an underrated movie for the most part and yeah, it's got some stupid moments but it's got some really good scenes throughout. Also, it's followed up with some great acting and Harrison Ford is still amazing throughout this movie, the full series of movies are worth the watch.

Absolute mess of a story and plot with wooden acting and delivery should not have been made.

This is good as Raiders of lost and Last Crusade. It's better than Temple of Doom that wasn't very good.

I really like this movie, I know it's kinda controversial but it was fun to watch. Plot was interesting, old and new characters were cool and fun to watch. Give it a chance it's really good.

Some fans may have been thrown off by Indy 4's shift from 30s serial homage to 50s B-Movie homage, but at its heart, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is made up of the same ingredients as Raiders, Temple, and Crusade.

Bad. Forced. Bad characters, bad twists, bad chase scenes. Movie killed the franchise.

A highly fun, exciting and worthy installment in the Indiana Jones franchise. Also the most interesting (especially for a conspiracy theorist like me). Very, VERY good!

It's a fun movie but nowhere near as good as the 1st or 3rd, yet still better than the 2nd. The very low score negative reviews are exaggerated. If you like the original films, this is definitely worth it. That said, even though the series is supposed to be a throwback to similar historically and culturally inaccurate campy adventure films from the 30s to 60s, so being critical that it isn't realistic is misunderstanding the series, it does push the unbelievable and supernatural (in this case, also sci-fi) elements WAY too far, the worst in the series in that regard, even more than the 2nd. They overused the green screen and computer generated effects. The Mutt character was really unlikable, don't think the issue was the actor, though not as awful as Willie from the second. Ox is never really treated like Marion's ex husband or Mutt's surrogate father. The Russian Soviet villains were not as interesting as the German ****. The plot plays out pretty predictably. Wish they either used traditional film or a filter making it look like that rather than the blurry white glow filter.

No where near as bad as people say, probably even better then the Temple of Doom. Sure it's a bit campy, but so were the others. The writing isn't the best, but it doesn't want to be. It wants to a fun adventure with Indiana Jones, and that's what it is. Sure, it's not the best of movies, but it's certainly not worst either.

They really should have stopped after The Last Crusade. I cannot overemphasize how much of a mistake this movie was. Indy should have retired.

In this film, the latest in Indiana Jones franchise so far, the explorer and archaeologist will go in search of the crystal skulls, objects about which abound myths. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this film has screenplay by David Koepp and has Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett and Shia LaBeouf in the lead roles. The script is the main problem of this film, totally unrealistic. The action scenes abused in computerized effects and eventually became so absurd that only lacked some laser swords to the characters during the fencing scene. There is still a certain character, "Professor Oxley", played by John Hurt, that I don't know what the hell is doing for 90% of the movie because he's left in the plot. And this kind of basic errors multiplied by the script. Harrison Ford still doesn't accuse the weight of his age, managing to fulfill his role in a very good way, but in a film that doesn't do justice to his talent. The stunning scenery are in accordance with the script, and are as unbelievable as it. The picture is very good, perhaps the best of the franchise to date, as well as special visual and sound effects, unsurprisingly. The soundtrack fulfilled her role without much brilliance. I will never be able to understand why Spielberg almost cannot make a film without involving extraterrestrials. Is himself an alien giving clues to the human race in blockbuster movies? When directors want to impose by force an idea into a script this is what happens: Spielberg likes sci-fi, and is not able to keep it away from movies that don't belong to that style. This film, lamentably, is a confusing and boring mix of Indiana Jones and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", soaked with computerized effects as if Spielberg had never seen a computer before. I regret that the film hasn't been lost in the forest before finding theaters or our technology doesn't allow Mr. Spielberg to go for a ride to Mars, on a one-way trip, if he comes back trying to shove aliens where they are not needed.

I enjoyed it, don't listen to the bad reviews. The story started slow, but picked up quickly. The acting was amazing. It isn't as good as the original two though. It is worth a watch.
