The Choral starts with a great concept then ruins it with a horrible script. Rather than the story going from point A to point B, it meanders. This includesa visit from a historical figure that should have moved the plot along but turns into a just a minor deviation. The story is anti-climactic at the end. The casting for "modern audiences" does the film no favors but ends up not hurting either due to the bad script. The film is worth watching once but it's not worth repeated viewing.

This is the movie that I would most like to unsee. It was simply a cash grab with no plot.

After the disaster of the "prequel" trilogy, I was initially relieved to hear that Disney had discarded George Lucas's story ideas. Boy was I wrong. The Force Awakens is a pointless retelling of The Return of the Jedi which was a pointless retelling of the great original Star Wars. If Disney had an ounce of brains, after spending billions to buy Lusasfilm they would have hired the best sci-fi/fantasy writers they could and plot out a 3-film story arc that would revive the Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon feel of the original Star War. They would have reunited Luke, Han, and Leia here to set in motion a new series of films with a new set of characters—It doesn't happen. Instead, Disney threw together a soulless, big budget shut-em-up. The only point of the film is lure Star Wars fans back who have vainly hoped that Disney might recapture the magic of the original and The Empire Strikes Back. The Force Awakens is the War Department Telegram that informs you STAR WARS IS DEAD.

I enjoyed this film more than any other I saw in 2021. It is a film that honors the original Ghostbusters while bringing new features to the table. The casting is wonderful. The kids in the film are funny without being obnoxious. The end it touching. There are a few problems so I won't go over-the-type with a 10 score, but it is a highly enjoyable film.

This film is utterly nonsensical from start (where bombs are dropped in space) to finish (with Finns failed destruction of the enemy). The main story line has the good guy fleet being chased by the bad guy fleet. The bad guys cannot catch up with the good guys but the good guys are running out of fuel. Meanwhile, a group of good guys is able to fly off to another planet, do some silly stuff there, and return and catch up with the bad guys. The film is just schlock stiched together to grab money from those who will see anything with "Star Wars" on it. (I was going to give this film a slightly higher score because I did not want to be over-the-type review bomber but, as I went through it again and recited its end-to-end stupidity, it I realized I was being too generous.)

Dune 2021 is a decent film, but it is not a great one. It has high production values and great visuals at times, the film is seriously lacking when it comes to telling the story. The director has no feel for the source material and what makes the novel great. The pacing of film is way too slow. The film adds material not in the book to cover production mistakes. At the same time it omits key parts of the story. Had the pacing of the film been better and the extraneous material been removed, there would have been plenty of time to tell the actual story from the novel. One of the major problems is that the film is woefully miscast. Timothy Chalamet is way too old to play Paul and physically is not up to the role. Due to this miscasting, the Paul of the novel gets transformed in to a wimp who isn't sure that he wants to become the duke. Several pointless scenes were added to the film to cover this miscasting. Rebecca Fergusson as Jessica was a another bit of bad casting. Instead of the noble character of the novel (see, e.g., Francesca Annis in the 1984 Dune), she cowers all the time. Gurney Halleck and Kynes were also horribly miscast to the detriment of the story. Jason Mamoa is hardly the Duncan Idaho of the novel but this is the only "miscasting" that actually works in the film. Because the story is so truncated (in material, but not in screen time) and this is virtually no character development, the film could easily have just eliminated Thurfir, Gurney, and Kynes from the film entirely with to no effect in the final product. The sources material and budget were there to make a great epic film. This had the potential to be the Star Wars of the 2020's. Sadly, the result with Dune 2021 was just another Sci-Fi film The film is worth seeing but its only good and not great. The end result is much like Avatar where you just have to enjoy the visuals and put aside the plot. As terrible as the 1984 Dune was, it did a better job of world building and has camp value. I suspect in five years it will be more watched than the 2021 version because it is more entertaining. In conclusion, those saying the film is horrible are going overboard. Those calling it "a masterpiece" are deluded fanboys. Dune 2021 is in between, as its mediocre box office demonstrates.
