For some reason my full review is not uploading, so here is a condensed version: Great first half (a little random, but funny enough to carry the movie). Boring, frustrating, and incoherent second half ruins the film. Was going to give a 4 but given how angry I felt at the end of the movie, I couldn’t. Hopefully my full review decides to cooperate soon, but until then, this is the gist of my thoughts.

I don’t usually review movies anymore but thought I’d add my score to this one since imo it doesn’t deserve to be rated so low. All in all I really enjoyed OUaD, not as much as the original cut or the first movie, but for what it is, I certainly didn’t hate it. Honestly, I kinda wish the “family friendly” promise was adhered to more closely, but the absence of the over-the-top violence and language didn’t really ruin the film for me. What WAS a little bit of a bummer was the editing of the film. The editors presumably did their best with the time and money they had but there were some obvious moments that really could have been cleaned up better (and some of the storyline felt a little left out at times). Besides that, though, I felt like this was pretty well done. I think the key to enjoying this film is accepting it for what it is, not what it isn’t. No, not quite as good as the original cut, but still a heck of a lot of fun

Anyone who knows me knows that I love the original Mary Poppins movie from 58 years ago. As this is the case, anyone can guess how excited I was to see this sequel for the first, which I totally was. It started off with an original music number, which made me super excited for the rest of the film. Unfortunately, however, as the film progressed, the more disappointed I became. The special effects were exactly what I expected for a Mary Poppins movie with roughly 60 years of improved technology: nothing short of amazing. There were two scenes that were the pinnacle of the disappointment. The main offense was the “cover is not the book” scene. The song was not what I expected from a Mary Poppins film (although the Hamilton-style Lin Manuel Miranda solo was awesome) and it felt like they were making fun of the animated penguins (which were one of my favorite things about the original). On the other hand, I enjoyed the old-school-style animation of that scene. The other misfire was the Topsy number. It felt out of place and you can’t ruin any character, let alone Mary Poppins, by telling everyone that that character has such a creepo for a cousin. That being said, the bank taking property is, in my opinion, an overused conflict, however I liked how the banker was actually evil, along with the **** Van Dyke cameo. This brings me to my next point: Lin-Manuel Miranda, though I love his Hamilton and In the Heights productions, was no Bert-substitute. And the Michael actor didn’t look like the kid in the original, but besides that, the casting was well done. Though Mary Poppins Returns was a bit underwhelming, it was still an enjoyable experience—at the times that didn’t fall flat.

Alright, this may be my favorite DCEU movie so far (Wonder Woman might be its only contender). It’s introduction and suddenness of its villain was pretty dumb, as if DC was running out of ideas, and there was a LOT of CGI animation. This film makes up for that though by adding great action scenes and humor and throwing in some new characters that are witty and clever (Flash, you’re awesome!). I had a great time watching this film and loved the surprise ending! Pumped for Part 2!

I enjoyed the originality of Annie as well as it’s choreography and soundtrack, but that’s about where it ends. The story is choppy at times and it’s acting is worse. “House” was a pretty good movie. The beginning and climax of the story were SO good (10/10 worthy), I just wish I could say the same about the ending. This part of the story relied too much on CGI. While I don’t mind a little bit of it used now and then, I felt a little hit over the head with it. I also would have appreciated less “bush-lion” poop jokes about using the litter box instead of blasting people with leaves (poop?). Besides that, I had a great experience with House, and I would recommend it to people who enjoyed the Harry Potter films, Doctor Strange, and the Goosebumps movie.

As soon as the ending credits began, the person sitting next to me leaned over and sarcastically whispered two words in my ear, “nailed it!”. I laughed and thought, ‘that’s about right’. If you have seen my previous reviews, you would have seen how much I LOVED Spider-Man 2. Therefore, it’s understandable how I was super excited to watch the last chapter of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy. It’s also understandable how big of a DISAPPOINTMENT 3 was. It has worse CGI and special effects than its predecessor (seriously, what the heck? This movie was made three years after 2, and I expected an improvement or it staying the same, not a step backwards! This was 2007, not the 80s!). In addition to this, the story suffered from having too many villains (one is great, because you get to focus on one conflict. Two is nice because they have intertwining tales that spice things up, but three? Why do we need three? It just makes everything confusing and hard to follow. Have you seen the movie, Batman & Robin? It features three villains also, and it was such a great movie! [Haha, that was a joke]). The film also was hurt by mere stupidity. How many revivals did they have to have, and what the heck was with all that “probably just a bird” idiocy? Was the extensive strutting scene absolutely necessary, or the black-suited Spider-Man? Why couldn’t Venom just have found Eddie and save us all that cringiness during that time. And that instant side-change of the New Goblin? Why? Possibly it was just an excuse for a couple of fight scenes. Also, if someone took a grenade to the face in real life, no way could that person survive. The plot line is also super predictable at times. Bottom line: if you haven’t seen Spider-Man 3, good for you. Watch the first two and skip this one. I haven’t seen The Amazing Spider-Man yet as of this writing, but I can almost guarantee it’s better than this movie, so watch that one instead.

I went into watching The Iron Giant with low expectations because its animation was lackluster compared to Toy Story (which was made four years prior) and therefore assumed its story would follow suit. The Kung Fu Panda saga grows in animation quality with the third installment, but sadly, that’s about it. I wanted to like it more than I did, but 3 is a little too cheesy, cliché, predictable, and makes too little sense to be as good as the first two. The story is weaker, and some of the humor is off. I started watching Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with low expectations, as I had heard from a significant number of people that it was terrible. I was joyfully blown away by the surprisingly existent and powerful plot (which I had heard was nothing). Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot both did a fantastic acting job, and Ben Affleck did a pretty good job as well, though he wasn’t as good a Batman as Michael Keaton was in Batman and Batman Returns (as of this writing, I have not seen the Dark Knight trilogy, so I can not compare Ben Affleck to Christian Bale yet). The special effects were outstanding, on par with the rest of the DCEU. I loved the tension between the two titular characters, as well as the surprise ending! In summary, while lots of people hated this movie, I found it really enjoyable and beyond! The only thing that I would have changed is the length of the movie. Similar to Man of Steel, it felt like it ran too long.

Batman Forever was disappointing, having neither the epic plot of the first nor the amazing acting job in the second. I was super annoyed that they changed Batman actors. The special effects were horrible compared to that of its predecessors. In addition to that, the story wasn’t even that good, the entire two hour movie was Two-Face and the Riddler trying to kill Batman. This seems overused by now, as this is the second movie’s premise in a nutshell. To its credit, Batman Forever has some really good plot twists, but sadly not enough to lift it from mediocrity. The biggest eye-roll of the entire film was that Forever contradicts previous Batman films, saying Two-Face killed Bruce Wayne’s parents. The Joker killed them as stated IN THE SAME FILM SERIES! That part was so stupid! However, I give the film a little extra credit for its amazing end song

Have you ever come across a movie that you wanted to like so badly but for some reason you didn’t? That’s how I feel with Finding Dory. I liked most of the stuff about it, especially the gorgeous animation, but something in the movie just didn’t click for me. The storyline was slightly inferior to the first, but that can be expected in a sequel. The movie blends emotional parts with humor pretty well, but the humor is hit or miss, split about 70/30 really funny to “why did they put that in there?”. The dialogue wasn’t great, with quite a few clichés. The tone of voices that the actors used were out of place noticeably some times. In other words, bad acting in an animated film, no easy task. Finding Dory is an okay film that was decent, but from PIXAR standards, a real disappointment.
