The rhythmic machinery of a blood-soaked rebellion: A 4.0-star sensational surge of raw, high-tension gothic grit.2013(4.0)I watched Blade (1998) in 2013, and it remains a vivid 4.0-star pillar of "daywalker" brilliance in my archive—a raw revelation of how a sensational anti-hero can dismantle the stagnant hierarchies of the vampire underworld. This experience **** the fourth wall of the comic book genre by infusing Wesley Snipes’ raw, stoic precision into a narrative rhythm that felt 100% sophisticated and chewy. The narrative rhythm was far from stagnant; instead, it offered a sensational "acting power show" where the raw, high-tension silver-edged weaponry and the "bbo-jjak" techno-beat blood rave left me in a state of absolute awe at its visceral storytelling rebellion. While the production might have felt stagnant to those used to brighter heroes, it leveraged a vivid, sensational darkness to deliver an emotional payoff that felt both authentic and sensational, proving that a story about a "vampire hunter" could be a vivid artifact of stylish cool. The 95% preservation of my memory is dominated by the rhythmic, raw beauty of the opening club scene and the vivid but pathetic disintegration of the stagnant vampire councils, creating a permanent, sensational scar of R-rated wonder on my soul. Unlike the stagnant 1.0-star drift of The Forbidden Kingdom, this encounter possessed a rebellious soul that turned a pathetic night of predation into a sensational masterpiece of high-tension action. It stands in my 2013 record as a powerful 4.0-star testament to the raw power of the pre-MCU era—a high-tension encounter with the vivid rhythm of the sun-walking sword that remains one of the most chewy artifacts of my cinematic journey.

The cinematography and effects haven’t aged well. It all looked a bit smeary. Most of the computer effects looked pretty bad but thankfully they were fairly rare. It looked good enough to watch. I liked the sound design, which has aged better than the ****’s a bloke film like Species (1995) and Predator (1987) but with Wesley Snipes running around killing vampires. It’s not as good as either of those films though. The characters are all fairly memorable and it is entertaining. The martial arts fighting looks dated, well any martial arts before The Matrix (1999) looks dated. There isn’t much depth but if you have a beer in your hand then who cares? It can be a little slow in places.

Let's go, first I would like to praise the protagonist's costume, it's really cool. Next, this film has well-done fight choreography, but I think they could have used them better. If we analyze it from the side, this film is old, and from a time when superhero films were not as important and famous as they are ****, it's a good film, I recommend it!

This is one of the best Comic book movies ever made imo and is very late 90s and early 2000s which I absolutely love

Blade is a critical film in the Marvel canon, setting the stage for future MCU movies. Snipes excels as the half-vampire hunter, delivering intense action and charisma. The film’s dark, gritty style, extreme camera angles and impressive fight scenes stand out. However, the plot can feel disjointed, and some effects are dated. Despite its flaws, Blade’s undeniable impact proves that comic book adaptations could succeed commercially and critically.

This was an enjoyable ride from start to finish. I do think the story could've used some work but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment. I'd happily give it a rewatch anyday.

Loved it when it came out, and happy to say it's aged very well. This was the first superhero movie that went dark and gritty, and boy did it deliver. Yes, it has goofy moments and some of the effects are dated, but it plays with heart and knows its strengths. This was Wesley Snipes' defining role, and he was perfect in it.

This is Marvel cool!? Not until Dead Pool did they revisit a mature rating and only in a joke movie. Blade still the baddest ass Marvel character ever seen on screen to date.

I was looking for cool Wesley Snipes and an interesting story for Blade. To say the least, it's a disappointment. The original story seems to be Marvel Comics. Of course, I have not read the original work. Without considering the original, Wesley Snipes is cool, but the movie is all action and not much else. To be honest, I thought the blood raining down from the ceiling in the first scene was amazing. However, the many interesting scenes at the beginning were also great, and I guess my expectations were raised. From the middle of the film, it became all Wesley Snipes action. The problem with all the action is that it's boring. As I said earlier, I had high expectations for the story from the beginning. However, the quality of the story gets worse and worse as time goes on, so it's no fun to watch and the only thing to see is the action. It's not just the action that I'm looking for in this movie. The flashy (and somewhat unreasonable) use of CGI does not cover up the problems with the story. Also, foreshadowing in a film should ideally be carefully collected, and there should be surprises and discoveries. In this film, the careful storyline in the first part of the film is disturbed by the messy action later in the film. The story is predictable and not that well thought out. No matter how cool the action is, the story leaves something to be desired. It was interesting until the middle of the film.

Blade is still one of those excellent vampire action films that perfectly incorporated rock 'n' roll. Yet at the top are action and imagery. Then what? Wesley Snipes is perfect as the stoic vampire killer, and Kris Kristofferson is more than just a good sidekick. among the top action films of the 1990s.

The vampire hunter movie par excellence! Despite his proud 25 years, not a day older! You can watch the film over and over again, the action, the exciting story, the crazy soundtrack, especially the main actors Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson and the supporting actors N'Bushe Wright, Donal Logue, Udo Kier, Sanaa Lathan are simply bombastic good! Everything fits! AWESOME! This is the best casting, a top choice! It just doesn't get any better! TOP! TOP! TOP! BRAVO! AWESOME! AWESOME!

When this came out I thought it was the best vampire movie ever. Tons of action, fight scenes, and gore. I love how the vampires look when they die. One of my favorites!

Blade is a nice, good, brutal, comic book movie that really well performed, well choreograph, and it is the first Marvel character adaptations films that they produced seriously as near as Batman and Batman Returns, and it works fine.

Best thing David S. Goyer ever wrote, it's all downhill from here. Wesley Snipes oozes cool and Stephen Norrington brings a lot of style, his direction is excellent, clearly influenced by Hong Kong action cinema.

"Blade" has its right character with Wesley Snipes as the Vampire hunter Blade. But the movie is bathed in the wrong dialogues and childish scripts.

Blade is a typical Marvel movie before the creation **** film universe. Blade is an adult film, unlike most Marvel paintings. This is necessary, otherwise it will not work out to make an original film about vampires and the conditional Twilight will come out. Well, the choice of Wesley Snipes as the main character of the ugaladi. A good Marvel movie about not the most popular hero.

Blade. A bloody sight. Marvel created an amazing vampire hunter, and Wesley Snipes played him well. A fearless and almost invulnerable fighter with fangs. The final match is also very good!

Solid popcorn movie with some good fighting scenes, but too much style and therefore a bit annoying. Of course the story is superficial and could use some more explanations. Also most of the characters are superficial. In addition some of the scenes were feminist. It is clear, that this movie is for the masses and teens/young adults.
Wesley Snipes was very good, especially his fighting skills. Udo Kier as Dragonetti was perfect and should have much more time as this arrogant Deacon Frost. NBushe Wright as Karen was annoying and redundant.

As cringeworthy as the CGI could be, along with a couple other moments. I was still entertained by it's choreograph & humorous acting. The cast was rather well done, but everything else could use some work.

We are facing a film that was planned and thought for the teen audience, thirsty for pure hard action with fights more choreographed than ballet and litres of blood everywhere. I could be exaggerating, but this film is just that. It's good, if what we're looking for is something to entertain without thinking too much. Its based on a coherent script, although its fantasized, superficial and sometimes illogical. Everything revolves around Blade, a vampire who walks during the day, hunting and killing other vampires, usually the naughtiest. Blade's real motivations are never fully explained, but we understand that they are related to his past and his late family. Here, however, he has to face a powerful vampire, who carries out a palace coup and takes power in vampire society, and who is determined to invoke an ancient blood divinity that will exterminate the entire human race (it seems unproductive to liquidate their food source, but things are what they are). The film has dialogues full of insults and heavy slang, scenes of bloody deaths and violence, but it was made for a young adult audience. The film also explains many things about the rules and the vampire society, as well as the way humans sometimes want to be turned into vampires, but that is all in the background when it comes to action. Wesley Snipes is convincing in his role, which is basically a highly trained and apparently unstoppable tough assassin, "Terminator" style. He never laughs, never shows emotions, he imply hit, fight and kill. He is not a friendly guy. Kris Kristofferson gives life to his mentor and greatest ally, an elderly human who, in the past, was a vampire hunter. Basically, he sounds and behaves like a smug cowboy from those old western movies. Stephen Dorff gave life to the main villain and was very effective in his task, giving his character an air of sadistic cruelty that made him threatening and convincing. N'Bushe Wright appears simply for being pretty and as a draw for the male audience. Technically, its a film that bets everything on action and on highly planned and choreographed fight scenes. Of course, some of them are shown in slow motion, a feature that "Matrix" helped to popularize the following year but which, for me, becomes tiring and even expendable. There are dozens of deaths, we can't even count them, and there are kills for all tastes. It looks impressive... and it is! You can see how much money was invested in these scenes. The sets and costumes are good, but I would particularly highlight Blade's costume, black with some quilts that seem to work as bulletproof armour, and a raincoat that looks like a black cape. Showy and stylish.

The original R rated Marvel movie! The plot is pretty bog-standard (Vampires want more blood, go figure) boasts some mildly famous actors. Making the film better is it's incredible soundtrack and action sequences. The early CGI effects are cheesy and makes a video game look more believable, but you gotta love some of the practical effects and make-up artistry. Wesley Snipes at his peak of popularity!

Blade is a bad ass cult classic action horror film that changed comic book films showing that they could still be succesful (or at least be profitable), in a time were some comic book films had failed with both critics and audiences. There are some effects that haven't aged that well but that's just a few them meaning that you can still enjoy a lot of the action scenes on this movie. It's better if you only watch this film and not the sequels since those films might not be that good as this one and due to over reliance on cgi.

Easily one of the best comic book action movies. Sure the dialog wasn't the best but the soundtrack and fights are. The movie aged well too and Wesley Snipes deserved a bigger audience for bringing more adult centered comic movies to the table.

This is how you do a comic book adaptation. What I love the most about Blade is that even 20 years after it's original release, It still holds up.

Sleek, stylish, and sexy. A reminder of the pre-MCU days where Marvel and other superhero films weren't afraid to get more experimental in their approach. These days you won't see anyone make a comic book adaptation for their cinematic universes this dark and bloody. Especially not Marvel. At least not outside of Netflix. Like a lot of the videogame and comic book movies from the late '90s and early 2000s, the action in blade is of a hyper ridiculous, over-the-top nature that can occasionally get too silly for it's own good. There are also some moments that would have come across as cool and acceptable back in 1998, but are just cheesy today. Blade still holds up surprisingly well though. Especially for a film that uses the popularized, glamorous take on vampires. This is largely because it plays itself with almost an entirely straight face. This allows some moments that could have been terrible coming off as much better than they otherwise would have. Such as the blood drinking scene that is completely unsubtle in it's symbolism of sex. Blade also doesn't forget that while it's creatures of the night are all fashionable pretty boys and girls, they are historically monsters. Wesley Snipes gives an incredibly cool performance. The character of Blade himself though goes underdeveloped. With the exception of a surprisingly emotional scene involving the mentor/surrogate father figure "Whistler" (portrayed by Kris Kristofferson) that allows Snipes to actually do some light acting, our protagonist never comes off as anything more than a blank slate. Blade is hardly more than a vampire killing-machine we never get to learn much about. He can fight and toss out some clever one-liners, but I was ready to see some growth well before the credits rolled. This is somewhat made up for with the villain though. Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) is a much more memorable antagonist than most of the foes in modern superheroes find themselves up against, even if his motivations are of the standard "vampires should be ruling humans instead of hiding" variety. The way the story plays out and the style in which scenes are shot really does make Blade feel like a live-action comic book. Much like the Thomas Jane Punisher movie and to a lesser degree 2003's Daredevil, Blade takes is a dark and mature alternative to the more family-friendly superhero movies that make up the majority of the genre. It's the kind of thing I would love to see Marvel and DC do on the big-screen again. Fox is the only one giving us R-rated cape and costume flicks these days. I love how Blade fully embraces it's horror side. Something that opened the door for the multitude of grotesque and gory kills. Some elements of the story don't hold up quite as well as they should. For example the stuff with Blade's mother comes off as inconsequential and gets weirdly incestuous there for a second. There are also scenes that seemingly contribute nothing to the overall plot. Blade is a reminder of a time where superhero films weren't afraid to take risks and go to some more adult places with their action. While this didn't always win them a bunch of support from the professional critics, they were usually able to find their own followings in the audience. This is a movie worth checking out if you'd like to see a darker Marvel character. One that if they ever did decide to revive for the MCU would most likely get relegated to one of their TV shows that have begun to feel somewhat disconnected from the larger universe as opposed to the big-screen treatment he deserves. Look at what happened to Frank Castle. If Marvel ever does decide to follow in Fox's footsteps and make another R-rated superhero movie aimed at adults like they did back in the day (it's worked for the X-Men three times now) this should be the character they do it with as his original adventure is still good 20 years later. 7.9/10

Cheesy and dated but nonetheless remains a solid action-packed vampire slaying epic with a kick-ass soundtrack. Wesley Snipes brings a memorable Clint Eastwood-style gruffness to the title character but Stephen Dorff is also a joy to watch, making for a fun villain. Although I will admit Deacon Frosts evil plan made absolutely no sense and the third act felt very baggy in it's pacing.

Stephen Dorff's Blade is an incredibly underrated Marvel film. This film is such a fun film. The acting isn't great but Wesley Snipes was perfect as Blade and the villain, Deacon Frost, was awesome. In the end, this is a fantastic film.

Super awesome movie! I don't see how anyone could possibly hate this one. It has a great soundtrack and I would definitely give the acting a 10/10. It also has a great ending there is no sappy "romance" like there is in a lot of these types of movies. They actually gave it a super fantastic ending.

It's getting closer and closer to the new millennium, and the ever-multiplying vampires are preparing to take over the earth by solidifying their financial holdings, buying lots of urban real estate, and opening trendy vampires-only dance clubs. It's a good thing the humans have Wesley Snipes, a sort of daylight-immune half-breed who possesses vampire strength, speed, and senses, handicapped only by his need for a special thirst-for-human-blood-inhibiting serum and an apparent absence of human facial or vocal expression. A very, very fit Snipes does an exceptionally athletic job of shooting, chopping, burning, and capoeira-ing dozens of vampires in time with a thundering electronic soundtrack while hunting Stephen Dorff, a lowly working-class vampire who wants to move up in the world by summoning the Blood God to subjugate humanity once and for all. Helping Snipes stop this vampocalypse are handyman Kris Kristofferson and hematologist N'bushe Wright. Sure, the story is pretty standard, and the dialogue is laughable or worse. But creative cinematography and non-stop, decently choreographed gratuitous violence make watching this comic-book movie—Blade is a minor, almost-forgotten Marvel comic—entertaining. In fact, it's arguably the best comic-book movie of the year.

When I heard that they made a movie about the comic book hero known as Blade, who in the comic books was a jazz musician turned vampire hunter that uses butter knifes, I groaned, but when I saw the movie I thought it was one of the best movies ever. From beginning to end this movie is full of action and blood as we see the mighty day walker take on hordes of vampires. This all leads up to a sword fight with the famed blood god. In conclusion if you want a movie that is just a giant blood bath watch this film.

Good movie if you are in the mood for destruction and violence against bad guys. The story itself is straight forward and revolves around a vampire killing vampire. You can probably guess most of the plot just based on that one sentence but the good thing about this movie is you dont have to put up with a lot of mind endless numbingly bad dialog, horrible over acting and unnecessary scenes. It gets to the point by telling you about the character and plot and then executing without delay. I can point to a lot of action flicks that took themselves too seriously and ended up being embarrassing to watch (Transformers is a good example of bad action movies). A good flick, good enough to be remembered after more than a decade.

Blade is a bit different from other super hero films. It is one of the earlier movies based on a Marvel character. Although Stan Lee is still involved in the movie as an executive producer. The movie is dark, which we get used to after watching the Dark Knight trilogy. It shows a lot more blood and has more swearing than any Marvel hero movie I've watched so if your not a fan of Marvel films you could certainly enjoy Blade. Wesley Snipes is unstoppable in what could be my favorite role that I've seen from him, there is no one else that could've played him better. However I didn't like the villain, I found him a bit weak considering the movie was 2 hours long.

Blade is a film that has aged extremely well. This especially goes for some of the special effects, the action sequences and fight choreography. Moreover, this film not only served as an obvious influence to the Underworld film series, but appears to have set the tone for the more severe atmosphere in the films of the ongoing DC comics revival (Batman series, Man of Steel). This is the type of film that compels me to overlook the cheese and plot holes and enjoys the show.

I really love the original Blade. It opened up the door for the Superhero films of the 21st century to be dark, violent as show someone as an anti-hero. It also helps that Stephen Dorf is pretty frickin' hot in this film.

Wesley Snipes puts on a charismatic performance as the lead, and the action is intense. However, this is overshadowed by a vaguely written script, and a supporting cast that's wooden at best.
